7x01 | You Can’t Always Trust What You See

It was a spur-of-the-moment type of thing. One second Will was complaining about his growing money problems and having to find a roommate, the next Connor was offering him his spare bedroom as if they weren’t at each other’s throat only minutes prior. They both stared in silence for a beat, taking in the sheer absurdity of the idea. And then, Connor had turned on his heels to walk away and the ‘yes’ all but stumbled out of Will’s mouth. If they could have blamed the whole conversation on alcohol, they would have, however they were standing in the doctors’ lounge of the Emergency Department, not sitting on barstools at Molly’s. 

And this was the story of how Will ended up moving into Connor’s condo. Sort of. It wasn’t that simple. For instance, Will refused to inform their friends and colleagues also he had to spend his precious rest day running between his and Connor’s places, which happened to be situated on different sides of the city… only for Maggie to find out the next day through Goodwin after Will stopped by the administration to inform them of his address change. 

Of course, Connor’s address was already in the system and of course, two doctors from the same department moving in together raised a red flag.

Goodwin stopped him in his track to the doctors’ lounge from where she stood next to Maggie at the nurses’ station. However, it wasn’t so much her stern expression rather than his friend’s mildly offended look that got to him.

“It was either that or rooming with a stranger,” Will defended himself.

It didn’t work, obviously.

“Doctor Halstead, what is the nature of your relationship with Doctor Rhodes?” Goodwin asked.

“My relationship with,” Will half-spluttered. He looked at Maggie for support but she merely raised an eyebrow at him. “We are colleagues and now we share a condo, that’s it. Seriously, you can ask anybody around here, Rhodes and I aren’t about to tie the knot anytime soon.”

“Ouch,” Connor said as he joinded them, barely glancing up from his paperwork. “And I had started picking out chinas. You are breaking my heart, Doctor Halstead.”

“Don’t,” Will started.

“Doctor Rhodes,” interrupted Goodwin as she turned her attention towards the other man who was, for all she cared, just as faulty as Will.

“No, he is right,” Connor answered, finally looking up. “Actually, the reason I offered him a room is that I thought it wouldn’t look too good if people found out one of your doctors lived in their car -”

“I wasn’t,” Will said, visibly offended.

“Yet,” Connor shot back. He gave his new roommate a fake smile before turning his attention back to Goodwin. “We’ll kill each other before we sleep together.”

Will scoffed, both from irritation and to try and hide his embarrassment. Which didn’t work very well if the look Maggie gave him was anything to go by.

“And that’s supposed to reassure me?” Goodwin asked Connor.

The traumatologist merely shrugged as if to say there was nothing he could do to fix the situation.

If there were no storyline problems with Connor and Ava, I can just imagine Connor getting into arguments with Marcel as his new rival. And who knows, maybe even get jealous of Marcel flirting/eyeing Ava cause she's hot. I can see him messing up Chexton after they just got back together.

If there were no storyline problems with Connor and Ava, I don’t think Mr Marcel would exist 😂. But definitely does seem like a guy who would butt heads with Connor. They’re both very good surgeons but have different approaches.

Hey so I’m not sure if this is true but my fav Chicago Fireman aka Jeff Clarke left in season 2, to then reappear in season 5, he gets hurt and becomes a med student in the end of season 1 of Med but as you’ve got it, season 1 of med was made around the time season 4 of fire came out so if that’s true, the timelines say that Clarke was both working at Station 25 as a Lieutenant and also beginning his medial residency at Chicago Med. I am very confused

Jeff Clarke my man!! He's my fave too! I was so sad he left Fire, then so happy he popped back up in Med!

You're kinda right actually! But I know the Fire Wiki a little bit confusing so... to sum it up :

(SPOILERS CHICAGO FIRE S02, kinda)

Clarke is in Fire during all of S02, he's working Rescue Squad until he gets promoted to lieutenant and transfers to another firehouse by the end of the season.

Now we don't hear from him for two full years, until he suddenly appears in Med in the S01 finale (which lines up with end of Fire S04) as a med student. He explains that sometime during this two-year gap, he hurt his back or something and couldn't be a firefighter anymore, so he switched profession to what any sane ex-marine/ex-firefighter would go for : doctor!

After that he's on Med for all of S02 also, which matches up with Fire S05, in which he makes cameos as a med student. So that's why he's on Fire S05; he's not there as a firefighter because he got injured beforehand, and has already started his medical career for some time.

Hope that clear things up for you! I'm not the best at remembering stuff that happened in Fire, the only exceptions being the first two seasons or so, because Shay and Clarke are the best :)

Sarah Reese was in the middle of a double shift when it happened. She had just spilled half her umpteenth coffee on the doctors’ lounge floor and was in the process of mopping off what she could, knowing it would be a while before maintenance got to it, when Doctors Rhodes and Halstead walked in. She mumbled a weak ‘hello’ from her semi-hidden spot under the desk but neither man seemed to notice her. What was new, right?

They kept talking about… groceries? Apparently, Doctor Halstead thought they - his exact word was ‘we’ since when were they a ‘we’? - were eating too many take-outs, to which Doctor Rhodes answered he would be happy to cook if they had anything to do so in their kitchen - and wait, what? Since when did they share a kitchen? Were they living together? Did everybody else know? Why did no one tell Sarah?

Rhodes and Halstead argued about who had the littlest amount of time to go grocery shopping as they changed into their scrubs and Sarah kept silent, basically frozen. That it, until she heard Doctor Halstead swear and her curiosity got the better of her and she took a peek at the scene happening a few feet away:

“I forgot my phone,” Halstead added.

The redhead was pinching his nose bridge in a sure sign of frustration, his eyes closed, which was why Sarah saw Doctor Rhodes light smirk as he picked up something from his jacket’s pocket and he didn’t.

“You mean that phone?” Rhodes dangled what had to be Doctor Halstead’s phone in front of his face: “I saw it on the kitchen counter as I was leaving.”

“Why didn’t you give it to me in the car?”, Halstead protested. 

He was scowling as he snatched the smartphone from his… colleague? Roommate? Boyfriend? Husband? ’s hand.

“Thought you were less likely to forget it again that way,” Rhodes said.

He shrugged and turned away from Halstead who looked pissed as he exited the doctors’ lounge without another word.

“You are welcome,” Doctor Rhodes singsonged, audibly exasperated… and maybe a bit fond? 

Sarah did not know what to think anymore and she was ready to stay hidden until Rhodes left when:

“Reese,” said-doctor called.

“Yes?”, she answered weakly after a beat. She got up awkwardly, swearing internally. “Hm, I was - I dropped my coffee and then - I said ‘hello’ but you didn’t seem to hear me and -”

Rhodes studied her for a moment longer before he said nonchalantly:

“I won’t tell if you don’t?”

Sarah blinked at the double meaning before she started nodding frantically. Finally, Rhodes left the doctors’ lounge and she sighted. 

She wouldn’t tell anyone about Rhodes and Halstead’s secret… but she sure as hell was going to talk to Maggie.

“Did you know?” she asked barely a minute later as she stood in front of the nurses’ station.

“Of course, I knew,” Maggie answered without bothering to look up from her computer screen.

“I didn’t even tell you what I was talking about,” Sarah started, mildly confused.

“Reese, I know everything that happens in this ED,” Maggie corrected her. “So yes, I am very aware of Doctor Halstead and Doctor Rhodes’ situation. And that you dropped your coffee.”

Sarah opened and closed her mouth, momentarily at a loss for word.

“The way she explained it to me(sic) is she wants you to remember her the way she is tonight; happy and beautiful, and surrounded by her friends and family.”

When did in Season 3 did Connor and Ava first started to fall for one another?

Uuuhh it’s kinda hard to say when exactly. You could argue 3x11 when they first kissed and hooked up but Connor seemed to think it was a one-time thing. Then when he changed his mind and asked her out for a drink in 3x12 she declined. But I think that maybe sparked some feelings and they realised that at some point between 3x14 - 3x17.
