Okay so this was sort of lowkey inspired by @chittafont ’s recent renjun angst (which made me cry so hard my eyes felt like they were being stabbed so thank you for that ily) 

This was way too long I’m sorry if it’s not what you expected!! Really omg this is a mess- 

Characters: Lee Jeno, Reader

“What do you say? You, me, carnival date on Friday?” Lee Jeno’s puppy eyes had never looked so bright and his lips never so soft and kissable-

Stop. Stop it. You knew you couldn’t think that. Stop- “Hello? Earth to Y/n?”

“Huh?” Fuck. He was too fucking close. Shit, shit, shi- “On Friday? Sorry I can’t.”

You averted your gaze; Jeno wasn’t nicknamed the class’ ‘Lie Detector’ for no reason. 

“Really?” His face was way too close, at this point you could probably count his long, dark eyelashes if you let your eyes flit up. You wouldn’t do that, nope. Even though it took all your willpower to not tilt your head up and kiss him breathless, you knew you couldn’t do that. 

He cocked his head to the side, making your heart stop. Lee Jeno was an attractive bitch and you knew you were fucked since the moment he opened his mouth.

In that very moment your head thought those words, his face broke out into the smile that had every single person in your school wrapped around his fingers: eyes crinkled into crescents that made the moon weep in shame, flashing his pearly teeth in a dazzling smile that would probably be the death of you. 

The Fates cackled from above, relishing in your demise.

Your dumb, evil brain chose that moment to remind you that Lee Jeno hadn’t been voted ‘Most Likely To Be An Angel’ last year for no reason either. 

“That’s alright? What about next week? We could go ice skating? Or maybe to the aquarium downtown? I heard the shark exhibit finally reopened!” The excitement in the boy’s voice made your heart melt a bit, but you fought desperately to keep those feelings down, down, down. 

“I…can’t next week. Studying for finals, you know.” you followed your obvious lie with a fake laugh. 

The lovestruck voice of your best friend echoed in your mind, stopping you from gushing about anything with him. 

 “But finals aren’t until May-?”“Hey!” you inwardly flinched at the eagerness of your voice. 

“How about you go with Sooji? She doesn’t have anything to do this Friday. I’m sure you’ll have a much better time with her!” the loud, chirpy dialogue that spilled from your mouth made you feel like being sick. 

 The familiar tickling sensation at the back of your throat had you holding down a gag. A flowery scent pervaded your nose, desperate to be set free from the confines of your aching lungs. 

“With…Sooji?” Jeno scratched the back of his neck sheepishly. “You want me to take your friend out on a date, instead of you?”

Swallowing left your throat burning with acid. 

“I’d- I’d feel bad if you had to cancel your plans because of me. You should totally go to the carnival with her.” 

“Oh…okay then. Yeah, sure. I mean, that’s probably a good idea?” 

“Don’t worry,” a vice like grip tightened on your chest with every syllable that came from your mouth. The pungent smell of dying lily petals was overtaking your senses. “I’ll give her your number so you can plan it out together!” 

Together.  

“But could you please excuse me for a second, I need to go somewhere.” 

Jeno stepped aside to let you pass, a strange look in his eyes. After managing to stumble out of the classroom, you turned the corner and sprinted towards the toilets. Crashing into the first empty stall you saw, you collapsed and heaved into the bowl. 

Snow white flowers erupted in pretty bouquets from your lips. 

Their pink tinged petals mocked you, laughed and sneered at you, and you knew exactly why. You couldn’t have Lee Jeno, and you never would. He was not yours to take, as much as you may have wanted him to be. No, you weren’t allowed to have his heart despite the fact that he owned yours. 

 Once you arrived back to the classroom, the only sign of your most recent struggles visible being a small pollen stain on your hoodie, you saw the desk beside you empty and heard two familiar laughs echoing through the classroom. The voices of your best friend and the one you love together pierced your heart in a way the sharp stems of lilies weren’t able to. 

 You felt the flowers come back up your bruised throat.
