okay so. like I say “insane” but really it’s just. a moment of Realization and contextualization? but it makes be feel Smart And Giddy when i have them and they happen w chip a lot so it basically counts

for me it was w his discussion w jay abt the confrontation at allport. bc like… i 100% agree w jay on that situation. she was the only one really like.. being Reasonable abt that, both in the sense of keeping the crew safe from the navy surrounding them and the moral sense of ‘why the fuck are you trying to steal away a corpse’.

chip seemed really weirdly like… bloodthirsty and impulsive and like a Bastard (esp compared to the navy but that’s another thing) in that moment, but the convo they had after that like… made me Understand chips position and WHY he was acting like that better. like even if i disagree still I know Why that was his choice/behavior.

specifically, it was him talking about how they finally had the upper hand*. even if I….. Don’t Fully Agree that they had the upper hand (since they were surrounded by guns and navy who could call for even more backup), but they did indeed have a leverage chip, ONE upper hand— kuba’s body.

in chips life, he’s p much always been on that down hand and trying to catch up in some way. so, like… idk it makes sense to me then that his immediate instinct would be to cling to the upper hands he gets and not let go. giving up the one advantage you have when you FINALLY have it is hard, even if it is the best and most advantageous plan. but idk how much he was like… really thinking through those advantages. it was a stressful fucking environment so going more off first instinct kind makes sense

(arguably, he was for once Not thinking in the immediate consequences of the “we are surrounded and going to Fucking Get Shot” and instead the advantages of future blackmail/if kuba revived himself or whatever. which, frankly, is funny as hell. chip tries to think abt the future outcomes of his decisions for the first time ever and immediately takes an L)

anyway idk if this is like. actually-In-Depth character analysis, or if im just pinning shit I want to this character that isn’t intended perception, or whatever but either way it’s a thought that made something click and made me feel like I Get his actions better so. <3
