Last week I made a post comparing the my Spiritwalker characters to the people I stole their names from, so here’s one for my We Faceless Folk characters. Tbh I think this one is more interesting
Chinwe
My first year in college I was in a program with a girl named Chinwendu, but she went by Chinwe for short. I thought it was such a cute name, but wait there’s more. My second year in college I transferred to a different school on the opposite end of the country and met another Chinwe. When I created the character, I knew I wanted an ethnic name, so of course this one immediately popped in my head.
I didn’t really know either Chinwe so I can’t say if they’re similar to mine, but when I met the second one she had a girlfriend and my character is also queer so there’s that.
Ms. Jones
This character is Chinwe’s mom and I named her after my introduction to Africana studies professor. I chose the name because my professor was an old black woman and my character is an old black woman so I thought it fit.
Other than that, they have nothing in common. My professor was so adventurous she went skydiving for her birthday. Meanwhile, my character barely gets out of her house because she has a bad knee.
Yejin
This one’s a bit complicated. My first roommate was named Sejin, but I didn’t want to give her the satisfaction of naming a character after her. So I named her Yejin, the name of a student in the center I work at, and it’s close enough to Sejin to be a dig.
The character Yejin is exactly like Sejin—a selfish, toxic bitch. Sure, she’s more exagerated, but is it really by that much when the real Sejin cried when I told the RA she opened the door when I was topless and made excuses to how it couldn’t have happened when she could have prevented it in the first place by paying attention to me for one measly second?
Alyanna
Alyanna is the name of one of my closest friends. When I couldn’t think of a name for this character, I used hers.
The real person and character are pretty similar. Both are college students who like going out places and posting on instagram. I think my friend has more of a sense of humor.

Singer Floxy reveals how Owerri OAP’s sex-for-airplay demands made her quit music
Tumblr media
Singer Chinwendu Florence Izuchukwu popularly known as Floxy has said that sexual harassment is the reason fewer ladies are doing music in Nigeria.  She recalled being asked for sex each time she took her song to radio station, adding that a presenter in Owerri, Imo State once swore that her songs will never be aired in their station if she doesn't sleep with him.  Floxy also stated that radio presenters are not the only culprits, saying that a DJ once proposed that she will maintain regular visits to his house once he starts playing her songs in clubs and events.  “There were other girls experiencing the same thing back them and today, none of them is active in music now, everyone quit and left it for them” “These things make you question your ability. You start doubting how good you are or if you're just good for the sex and nothing more” Chinwendu Florence Izuchukwu aka Floxy “You see people hail you in public, share their contacts and when you meet them in private, they forget why you're there and start talking about how and when they want to sleep with you” “A particular radio presenter in Owerri even refused to play a song I was featured in because I never slept with him” “It was crazy back then and you'll just ask yourself how many people you'll end up sleeping with before you can become a star” She said that even if she had wanted to consider their offers, there is no possible way people who are not stars on their own can make others a star.  “I checked their pasts and they haven't made anyone a star, so why will I be their first project? They are just liars and vampires”, she said.  Floxy, whose last release was ‘Forever Flora’, a compilation of her songs, said she has missed music and thinks a return would make a lot of sense.  She said she took out time to develop herself and now she is a graduate as well as a seamstress.  “I know a lot now, I've done a lot of things, but music keeps calling me” “I know a lot has changed, but I am Floxy, and I can always take on anything. I am back for good, so just wait for it”, she said.  She revealed that she will be marking her return with a single in April and everyone should wait for it. By • Olalekan Fagbade Court fines Police, others N20million for harrassing, threatening Lawyer A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, has slammed a ₦20m fine against the Nigerian Police and former chairman of the Host Communities Association of Nigeria (HOSTCOM), Professor Jasper Jumbo, for harassing and intimidating a legal practitioner, Emmanuel Asido. Asido had filed a Notice of Application for an Order enforcing a fundamental right, with the accompanying processes filed in Suit No. PHC/311/FHR/2023. Joined as defendants in the notice of application were the Inspector-General of Police, CP Akika Augustine and Professor Jasper Jumbo. The applicant also prayed the court to award him the sum of N50m, being and representing damages for the threats, harassment and intimidation visited upon him by the 1st and 2nd respondents, based on the unwarranted instigation by the 3rd respondent. Asido told the court that he was being threatened, harrassed and intimidated by the trio to answer for the allegations against L.E. Nwosu, SAN, after his demise in connection with a personal agreement between L.E. Nwosu, SAN, and Jumbo Major House for the recovery of rent/compensation for Jumbo Major House from Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited. Jumbo had, on his part, filed a counter-affidavit and later a Notice of Preliminary Objection, through his counsel, Mudiaga Onakpoya, seeking the court to withdraw itself from entertaining the suit. He claimed that the court was not properly constituted in line with the provisions of Order II, Rule 2 of the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure), Rules 2009, Order I, Rule 2 and Order 3, Rule 1 of High Court of Rivers State (Civil Procedure) Rivers, 2010. After hearing arguments from counsels of both the applicant and respondents, the presiding judge, Hon. Justice Chinwendu Nwogu, who upheld Asido’s application, however, slammed the trio with a fine of N20m. Nwogu gave additional N50,000 in favour of the applicant following what he described as time-wasting Notice of Preliminary Objection. The judge said: “I find no merit in the time-wasting Notice of Preliminary Objection and so is hereby dismissed.” On the substantive issue for determination, Nwogu agreed with the applicant’s counsel, Anthony Enyindah, that late L.E. Nwosu, SAN, obtained the brief in his personal capacity as a lawyer admitted to practice law on the Roll of Lawyers in Nigeria and not in the name of the Applicant and/or any other, lawyer in the law firm of Lucius E. Nwosu, SAN & Partners. The Court ruled: “I agreed with the applicant’s counsel, Anthony Enyindah, that late L.E. Nwosu, SAN, obtained the brief in his personal capacity as a lawyer admitted to practice law on the Roll of Lawyers in Nigeria and not in the name of the Applicant and/or any other, lawyer in the law firm of Lucius E. Nwosu, SAN & Partners, while the Applicant only performed/carried out his duties in this matter based on his court-room duties assigned to him as a lawyer in the chambers of Lucius E. Nwosu, SAN & Partners. “Lucius E. Nwosu, SAN, as the sole proprietor of his business name, was also the sole signatory to all his business accounts, including Account Number 0000834411 with Access Bank, which said account the 3rd Respondent (Chief Prof. Jasper F. Jumbo) referred to in his counter-affidavit. “I had the authority and consent of Jumbo Major House masses of Grand Bonny Kingdom with the exception of a few and Judgement debtors, to depose to this affidavit for myself and on their behalf…that there is a gentlemanly deal struck between him and L.E. Nwosu, SAN. “The 3rd Respondent’s alleged gentlemanly deal between him and Messrs Lucius E. Nwosu, SAN & Partners, in the words of the 3rd Respondent, is the investment/ expenses which he seeks to recover from the office of Lucius E. Nwosu (SAN) Partners. “That the 3rd Respondent’s claims for alleged debt-recovery of investment/expenses
is personal to him and his alleged Jumbo Major House masses of Grand Bonny Kingdom, based on his alleged gentlemanly deal struck between him and late L.E. Nwosu, SAN and not on behalf of the chiefs and entire members of Jumbo Major House. “The 3rd Respondent’s claims of investments/expenses upon which his complaint against L.E. Nwosu, SAN, is predicated upon is strictly personal and a civil matter between the 3rd Respondent and late L.E. Nwosu, SAN only”. #CourtfinesPoliceN20millionforthreateningLawyer

[IGBO PEOPLE OF AMERICA HISTORY] In the United States the Igbo slaves were known for being rebellious. In some states such as Georgia, the Igbo had a high suicide rate. Igbo slaves were most numerous in the states of Maryland and Virginia, In the 19th century the state of Virginia received around 37,000 slaves from Calabar of which 30,000 were Igbo according to Douglas B. Chambers. The Frontier Culture Museum of Virginia estimates around 38% of captives taken to Virginia were from the Bight of Biafra. Igbo peoples constituted the majority of enslaved Africans in Maryland. Chambers has been quoted saying “My research suggests that perhaps 60 percent of African Americans have at least one Igbo ancestor…” Some recorded populations of people of African descent on Caribbean islands recorded 2,863 Igbo on Trinidad and Tobago in an 1813 census; 894 in Saint Lucia in an 1815 census;440 on Saint Kitts and Nevis in an 1817 census; and 111 in Guayana in an 1819 census Some slaves arriving in Haiti included Igbo people who were considered suicidal and therefore unwanted by plantation owners. According to Adiele Afigbo there is still the Creole saying of Ibos pend'cor'a yo (the Ibo hang themselves).Aspects of Haitian culture that exhibit this can be seen in the Ibo loa, a Haitian loa (or deity) created by the Igbo in the Vodun religion ADAEZE   f   Western African, IgboMeans “king’s daughter” in Igbo.
