Romance

In a generation like ours, I don’t think most people know what real romance is anymore. Romance isn’t about the words that someone says to make you feel some type of way. It’s not about the materialistic gifts being exchanged, anyone can buy flowers or take you out to eat. Real romance is walking past by your significant other and not being able to hold back a kiss. Romance is saving that last piece of whatever for someone. It’s staying up all night doing what they wanna do even if what they want to do does not interest you. It’s the text or phone call you make at 4AM because you know that they’re not asleep. True romance is validating the fact that he is still so handsome even if he doesn’t see it in himself. When she tells you she wants a body like Drea Michele & you remind her how beautiful she is even if she doesn't feel she has the body she dreams of. Even in a pair of sweats with no make up on and her hair tied up. True romance is sacrifice. It’s giving all that you can equally so that you both can be happy. It’s about putting your favorite show or game on pause so that you can lay in bed with her until she falls asleep. It’s making her feel secure. True romance is opening her doors not because you’re expected to but because you believe women shouldn’t touch doors. It’s holding her purse for her. True romance is sharing your fears and goals with someone trusting that they won’t judge you or make you feel any less than who you are. True romance is when you see something that excites you and you can’t wait to tell that person. It’s making sure he or she is fed. True romance is “how can I help you?” It’s dying…. I would know because I was giving, doing, feeling all these things but I wasn’t receiving any of it back. I knew it was dying when I was more in love with how we used to be rather than being in love with him. I knew it was dying when the intimacy wasn’t even the same. Realizing that a relationship is falling apart is the most saddest thing to have to feel. Realizing that you were never really loved. That you were being lied to half the time when all you did was want to make someone better. Where is the fucking romance?! Why are people so afraid to give their all to someone?!
