The doctor skids to a stop before a towering brick wall. This town really loves its red fired bricks and mortar. Every house is made of it, which did make getting into that treasure vault so much easier. Although Law could have stolen everything in there without employing Clione's explosives, the place didn't even have a seastone lined vault. But where is the fun in that? Besides, the crafty Surgeon of Death could be playing a misdirection. Definitely a conundrum for the marine officer currently on Trafalgar Law's tail.
Tattooed fingers press against the brick, a smirk tugging at his lips. He smells clean smoke and tobacco and there is a whoosh behind him. The surgeon spins to see the famous and menacing White Hunter coalesce and Law can't help the cocky smirk that spreads across his features. The guy looks so fucking grumpy and serious. It's hilarious.
Law leans back against the wall, against this dead end, but of course, there are no real dead ends for the Surgeon of Death. Get his Room up and Law can go anywhere, do anything. So, what is his game here? Why is he pausing and letting the tip of Kikoku's blade touch the ground? Well, that's an easy answer. He's fucking around.
"Got me cornered, Hunter-ya," Law projects, tapping the concrete paving with Kikoku's tip. Head tilts, the doctor radiating that smug aura of a man who is in complete control. "Or do you? You must be wonderin' what my goal is here. Are you actually huntin' me or am I a distraction? Could be I'm leading you on a merry chase." Golden eyes focus on Smoker's face, gaze piercing. "Don't strain your brain too hard. You might end up needin' a doctor."

💥 - Smoker
❓️ - Weird career peers with Shanks & Benn.
smoker
he probably almost has as much fun annoying him as he does crocodile. he respects him for playing by his own rules but also he kind of wants to grab him by the scruff of his neck and shake him around.
shanks & benn
just don't tell him that doffy was in the crowd on the day of roger's execution smiling like a lunatic & having the time of his life because it reminded him of the time he killed his father so it was ✨✨✨nostalgic✨✨✨
but yeah in public i feel like they just 👁️👄👁️ at each other across the room but don't engage unless necessary, same with benn. mutual respect as fellow "[x] generation" mates and ungodly powerful pirates (+conqueror's users).

Despite the shitshow everything had turned into, Ikkaku could at least be certain that the kids and mothers were getting away, just as she'd promised. The Hawkins Pirates were far more interested in her than them, and while that wasn't exactly the best position for a lone woman, at least the Heart Pirate could hold her own against some mooks in a fight.
A sword came down on her, and Ikkaku only just managed to block the blade with her metal baton before it could slice her in half. Gritting her teeth, not only from the exertion of the fight but also Smoker's voice, she chanced a glance over at him. At least he was doing his job and still had Hawkins occupied. He'd better not blame her for the civilians getting spotted, though she doubted he'd believe her if she told him about the weird talking shadow. She could hardly believe it herself, but she wasn't in the mood to discard it and take the blame for something that wasn't her fault.
"I'm fine," she grunted, kicking her opponent between the legs, sending the man to his knees in agony. A cheap move, but pirates don't fight fair, whether they were Hearts or Hawkins. Spinning around she brought down another man by shoving her shock baton right in his mouth and sending a horrible electrical surge through him. Painful and cruel, but effective. "Worry about bringing in Hawkins dead or alive, not me!" Because of course she'd assume he only was interested in her status for the purpose of arresting her.
Smoker was still a Marine, and in her experience, Marines generally only wanted glory and would be more than happy to see her dead.
Hawkins, despite being locked in battle with Smoker, gave a truly unnerving smile. Mostly due to the horror that was his straw face, but the glint of deadly intent in his red eyes further enhanced the look. "As the cards predicted; the High Priestess and the Ace of Swords joined forces. But such a partnership is fated to end in blood and tears." Despite Smoker's demands, the Magician's monologing was cryptic. "Especially as my own ally is a kindred spirit and fellow Magician. One with that has a few tricks up his sleeve."
As if on cue, the shadow slunk up the side of a nearby building to ascend to Smoker's level behind him. The void-black claw once more shot out, but this time, it didn't settle for merely knocking some boxes over. Instead, it lashed out at the Marine's smokey arm, talons aiming to rend and tear so that its partner might free himself and enact the grand finale of their performance.
Tumblr media
His focus was entirely on Hawkins. The man was huge, and those nails of his told the story of someone who was out to kill. While they wouldn't be able to pierce Smoker on their own, with someone of Hawkin's caliber he wouldn't be surprised if the man was dappling in haki these days. The goal would be to stop the man before he could start using those as weapons.
So his focus went to restraining the man's arms at his joints. His elbow, his shoulders, if he couldn't use his mass to swing an attack then the nails would be diminished in their threat.
And for his pirate partner's part (how he hated to be working closely with a pirate), she was doing as she had said she would. There were no screams from the hostages, so he would assume all was going well. If anyone would expose someone for wrongdoing it was a scared child. He didn't hear any scared children, so it meant that she was potentially holding up her side of the plan.
Until suddenly he did hear screams. He glanced quickly towards her, noticing the crates on the ground. That was sloppy. Too sloppy to have been from a pirate belonging to the Heart Pirates. Their Captain was one who operated smoothly, quietly. Surely his crew would be similar. This was starting to smell like a set-up.
He was still struggling with restraining Hawkins, but with the noise to alert them now Hawkins' men were going after her. Though again, people didn't become the crew of one of the Worst Generation just by being easily taken. And it seemed she was holding her own quite well. "Heart Pirate," he called, his voice gruffer than usual as he struggled with Hawkins, "You doing alright?"
It seemed she could handle herself. She had handled herself. If she could hold her own and keep them from going after the civilians like she was, he could focus on his own part of the deal. He wasn't about to insult her by rushing to her rescue while she had things under control.
"What's going on? Hawkins pulling shit over there too?" He glared at the large straw man. I fucking hate straw. Straw people straw hats.... "Hawkins, you wanna do me a favor and monologue about your scheme? It'll save me a lot of trouble."

@chillin-at-partys-bar Aokiji for Smoker
Aokiji cracked an eye open when he heard his office door open. “Ah Captain Smoker what do I owe the pleasure of seeing you?” Aokiji looks to Smoker softly. Aokiji looks like he was in the middle of a nap.

Jail time for our muses Accepting (mutuals only) @chillin-at-partys-bar

"You know, it could be much worse." As far as cells went this one wasn't to bad. It was a summer island, it wasn't to hot or cold and they even had a little window where they could see the ocean. Really, it seemed quiet luxurious in comparison to others.
"Did they also take your cigarrettes or could you smuggle them with you?" While he wasn't a smoker, he wouldn't say no to one right now. "Surprised they didn't recognize us." Otherwise security would be much stricter and not only one marine who was clearly bored and fell asleep on his job. Poor guy.
Shanks leaned back against the wall, stretching out his arm and legs. "In my defense: I didn't think the guy would be so easy to rile up." Or actually the one in charge of this marine base. Ah well, maybe Shanks shouldn't have yelled 'Ha! You can't handcuff me when I only have one hand! Checkmate!' at him either. But then his face had been to funny.

❝ yeahーfire safety preparedness. i guess that's... one way to look at what i've been doing. ❞
smoker was, like him, on the fringes of the social circles at hq. not necessarily unpopular, but not popular either. the pair were in a weird class of their own, it seemedーwith smoker being so gruff & too-the-point that he was often at odds with everyone from drill instructors to admirals, and rosinante who was avoided not because of him personally, but the chaos he inadvertently caused.
not that his status as an outcast seemed to matter to the blonde; since he was a child, he had been taught to be cautious of others for his own safety. his surname. his brother. his former status as a world noble. if those tidbits of information about himself made their way to the wrong person, he could imagine himself being crucified upon a stone wall all over again.
but, as things were now, he didn't mind. at least he had smoker for company.
❝ trust me, i'm... trying to avoid fires. i don't know how, it's just... my hands shake too much and i drop my lighter, sometimes sparks catch my clothesーit just happens. i'm a hazard. ❞
Tumblr media
Smoker was resting with his back against the wall, arms crossed as he listened to Rosinante’s panic. It wasn’t the first time he’d heard Rosinante worry about being discharged. The man was a good one though, and had connections, so Smoker couldn’t imagine Rosinante getting anything other than a slap on the wrist about this. Like he had every other time. Accidents happened. More involving fire to Rosinante than usual but, well, whatever.
“We all needed the practice anyway. Fires can happen at any time. No one died.” But he did hear about one newbie getting sent to the infirmary for smoke inhalation. “Though maybe we should try to avoid anymore fires.”
And it was the best place to smoke, Smoker found himself out there quite often. He’d gone from a cigarette to a cigar, before he knew it he might need two of them to keep his nerves in check.

Ace slowly sneaks up behind Smoker before presenting the Marine with a rose and then smacking his ass and giggling as he runs to the other side of the room looking at Smoker giddly. "Hi. Good morning. I missed you. So I decided to sneak onto the Marine base to come see you!"

Shipping interview!
Tumblr media
⇾  Multi, single, or fewship?  Multiship.
⇾  What are you willing to RP when it comes to shipping?: I am always willing to write literally anything. I have no limits or triggers.
⇾  How large does the age gap have to be to make it uncomfortable?: Between muses? Lyra, being 37 years old, is unlikely to be interested in or have anything in common really with anyone under the age of 25-26. She is fine with any amount of age older than her.
⇾  Are you selective when shipping?: I know it’s cliche to say, but I just want chemistry. If Lyra has a good or interesting dynamic with someone that could lead to romance or even just a purely physical relationship, I see no reason to not explore it. Writing is just writing. I would not consider myself terribly selective. Lyra is selective, but I’m not.
⇾  How far do steamy moments have to go before they’re considered NSFW?: As soon as arousal is explicitly stated to be playing a role in the interaction.
⇾  Does one have to ask to ship with you?: It’d be nice if we both knew where we were writing towards, but I’m just as likely to say ‘hey, what if they kissed.’
⇾  How often do you like to ship?: Ship with me now. Ship with me tomorrow. Ship with me yesterday. Romance is my favorite genre to write and I cannot get enough of it.
⇾  What is your favorite ship in your current fandom?: I don’t think I have an ultimate favorite, but I ship Hina and Smoker, Akainu and Justice, Shanks and Makino, Zoro and Tashigi, Nami and Vivi, Kaido and Big Mom, Doflamingo and Viola, Katakuri and me, Garp and Dadan, Robin and Franky, KIN’EMON AND HIS WIFE... just a few.
Tagged by: none. Tagging: @chillin-at-partys-bar. @feliidae. @puiiet. @spiral-chronicler. @headlesstraitor. @maljefe. @museabyss. @ikkaku-of-heart. @logpcse.

Trafalgar Law lets out a laugh, the sound mocking. Kikoku is lifted from where she rests to get placed on Law’s shoulder as he straightens. He takes a causal step forwards, his whole posture appearing lazy but there is that unassuming menace that clings to the Surgeon of Death. His smirk lingers, golden eyes alight with his amusement.
Does Smoker really think Law is so full of himself he wouldn’t act in what the guy perceives as such a minor role? Seems like this Marine has learned nothing from him. Law is always what he needs to be to achieve his goals. That can range from being the indomitable captain, to the healing doctor, to a simple distraction. He can play the supporting role while his crew executes the real plan. He trusts them to get it done. Besides, when the White Hunter is on the scene it’s always best that Law keeps the man’s attention right on him.
“Hey, not all jobs are glamorous, but they still need doin’,” the pirate captain says with a shrug. “Oh, and ain’t gonna work with those chuckle heads again. The success is not worth the headache.”
A snarl touches his features, the irritation is genuine. As much as he achieved with Straw Hat and, to a lesser extent, Eustass, Law has no desire to spend anymore time with either of them. The rubber kid’s brand of friendship leaves him feeling humiliated and uncomfortably sticky. As for Kid, Law would rather kill the metal headed bastard than fight with him again. Yeah, he’s really preferring the solo pirating.
“So, it’s just me,” he continues, turning his gaze to Smoker. “Just me and my crew enjoyin’ what this little island can offer us.” Then comes that knowing smirk once more. “What do you reckon I want here, Hunter-ya?”
The little asshole was toying with him. This was a game to the other and that pissed him off more than if the other had been someone causing death and destruction to civilians. At least if it were the later he’d be able to justify using more force to take him down, but as of now he was just being a shithead. That grin on his face, the cockiness that made Smoker want to shove it into the wall. But he couldn’t resort to such brute tactics – one, it wasn’t wise when this close to Law, and two – It would make him no better than the pirates he hunted.
“What is your game, Law?” He might appear to be solid as he stared down the shit of a man, but on closer look it would be clear he was part smoke, using his ability to make himself look even larger than he normally was. But he knew it would do jack all to intimidate the other man. He wasn’t stupid, he knew the powers the pirate held. He knew that the chances Law slipped through his fingers today was high.
But Law also knew a lot about their world’s underbelly. He knew a lot about what was going on in places that Smoker himself would never be so despot as to think to go. So it was always worth it to find him, and get him to talk. Whether or not Law knew Smoker’s game on this was unimportant, cocky little shitheads liked to let others know how much smarter they were.
“You suggestin’ you’re a distraction? I didn’t think the great Trafalgar Law would let himself fall to that level. Workin’ with Straw Hat again? With Kid? Or someone else?”

Smoker could sense he was going to be here for a long time. The Vice Admiral sighed as he turned to figure out why he felt a pair of eyes on him. Seeing the redhead Smoker grunts and lets out a soft huff. "If you have something to say, then fucking say it. I"'m not waiting around for you to come over here." He mutters to Shanks, not even bothering the eyes he now also felt on him. "You wanna play? Let's go out side, big boy. You don't fucking scare me. "

Aokiji laughs, "You act like there's stuff to do. You know, there isn't much they've had me do lately because the last time I saw the pirates, I was supposed to catch them. They had the most beautiful navigator. Akainu put me in time out, you see." Aokiji wistfully states. "But it's okay! It means I can catch up on my sleep and bother you. Win-win in my book." Aokiji smirks, at Smoker sweetly, "I promise to be a good boy if you come play."

A long-term goal Lyra has been pursuing her entire career has been the capture and arrest of Red Hair Shanks (specifically, @chillin-at-partys-bar). Both Lyra and Shanks are from West Blue, and met briefly once as small children before Shanks sailed with the Roger Pirates. The next time they met, Shanks was just starting his own crew and she was a rookie Lieutenant in the Navy. She has essentially been chasing him across the seas her entire career, and shares a relationship towards him somewhat similar to Smoker and Luffy’s dynamic, but friendlier. She is devoted to keeping up with news about him and his crew. Lyra and Shanks have fought against each other, fought with each other, drank together, and shared good and bad times together. It’s somewhat of a friendly rivalry from her perspective; can she actually compete with him? No, not at all. He’s Shanks. C’mon. Let’s be serious. Nevertheless, Lyra considers him something of an old friend on top of being her number one target.
So if he’s an old friend, why is she trying to arrest him? Because she’s a Marine and he is a pirate and that’s how things work.
Once she consumes her Devil Fruit, however, things become a little more complicated.

❝ i'll be lucky if i don't get discharged for that, never mind demoted. ❞
rosinante dangled one leg off the side of his bunk while the other was curled up to his chest, gripped tightly as he subconsciously tried to tamp down his anxieties.
maybe he was being a bit hyperbolicーafter all, being the adopted son of an admiral awarded him way more leniency than others in his ranksーbut sengoku could only save him when he screwed up so many times, surely. only so many times he could convince rosinante's superiors that his son's tendency to accidentally light his surroundings on fire when he tries to light a cigarette totally doesn't make him a liability. rosinante was just waiting for the day it happened at this point.
❝ but something that flammable shouldn't have been on the tween deck at all if they're gonna complain about it. everyone knows that's the best place to smoke. ❞

Crouched behind the wooden crates, peering carefully through a gap between them, Ikkaku's eyes narrowed at the sight of Hawkins taking on his Goma no So form, becoming the giant, nightmarish scarecrow that had haunted the nightmares of many a North Blue sailor. It wasn't unexpected, but it could pose a problem, as his reach was much longer in this form, and the nails on the ends of his fingers could be deadly if he happened to grab onto her or any of her charges.
But it at least seemed that Hawkins' full attention was on Smoker, though he was apparently planning some kind of sacrifice. And he'd said something about a constant? The guy was talking more gibberish than usual. Still, it always seemed like he believed that gibberish, which made him pretty damn dangerous.
Glancing over at the
"Say, Pal," came a voice from behind her, and Ikkaku nearly jumped out of her skin. Spinning around, she found no one behind her, yet she found a shadow on the wall. It looked like a thin, tall man in a sharp suit, but the engineer quickly realized it wasn't connected to anyone. It was its own entity, and it was moving. Its mouth opened, and again she heard the voice. It sounded like static coming out of a radio. "You look like a sharp mind. Someone who might be interested in some secret knowledge I've got. I could share it with you. What do you say? Of course, you'll have to ditch these nobodies, first," it said, a clawed finger crooking as if beckoning for her to join it.
Ikkaku stared at the shadow on the wall before glancing down at the mothers and their children. Most of them were focused on the battle, silently cheering for Smoker to win, but one of the kids stared up at the shadow, unblinking.
Well, at least Ikkaku wasn't the only one seeing weird shit. That was a relief. Meant she hadn't completely snapped yet.
Glaring back at the shadow, she snapped quietly, "Fuck off. Don't know who you are. Don't care. I've got a job to do."
"Shame. We could have done this the easy way." Suddenly, the shadow's arm shot out, stretching long enough to knock the crates over loudly. This quickly gained the attention of the nearby Hawkins Pirates, and the rest of them when one of the mothers let out a scream of fright.
"Fuck!" Ikkaku cried, running over and hitting the closest flunky with her shock baton. The man screamed as the smell of burning flesh filled the air, until he collapsed, smouldering. "Run!" she shouted to the mothers and the kids before turning to another pirate, hooking her foot behind his knee to trip him up, then punching him squarely in the throat. An elbow to the temple put him down the rest of the way, and the rest of the Hawkins Pirates decided she was a more pressing problem than the escaping civilians, especially with the likelihood of getting snatched up by the smokey tendrils of the Marine if they dared chase after them. The Heart Pirate was, ironically, the safer target, as none of them could imagine Smoker would do much to help her. Marines didn't stick their necks out for pirates, after all.
Brandishing her shock baton, ready to take on as many of the Hawkins Pirates as necessary, Ikkaku was at least relieved that her charges were out of the way. Smoker could say what he wanted about pirates, but clearly, she had a better sense of Justice than the average Marine. Now she just had to live long enough to rub it in his face.
Behind her, the shadow smiled, pleased that things were working out like it and Hawkins had planned.
Tumblr media
These worst generation types were really getting on his nerves. How dare they? How dare they descend upon these innocent people who are simply trying to live their lives. What pirates were doing, throwing out all laws, all civility, it was bad enough. But if they pulled this shit off on their own island somewhere and left the rest of them out of it, then it wouldn't be as bad.
But no. They had to pull something like this, ruining any chance of a peaceful life for those unwilling to be a part of their shitty world. And it was that fact that made his gut twist with a fury and his anger palpable. Ever since he was young, the Grand Line had been full of danger. And these pirates didn't care that they were the cause of that.
He wanted to grab a few of Hawkins' men in his smoke. He could tighten it around each one of them before they even realized they were trapped. But he didn't want to stretch himself too thin - literally and figuratively. The man-turned-monster before him would take his focus. Especially if he could use anyone as a shield for hits against him he didn't want to give him the chance to harm more innocent people.
An ear was kept out for her as well. Both to make sure she was doing as they agreed upon and to make sure she wasn't becoming a target for one of Hawkin's lesser men. She was a Heart Pirate herself, and Law's crew was tough enough. Surely she had to have some survival skills that could make sure she and the hostages could get to safety.
And then Hawkins started talking and Smoker couldn't stop the scowl on his face. He'd used his power to propel him upward so that he could be eye-level with the pirate captain. These captains. Always felt like they held some level of fear in their opponents.
"Constant? The fuck are you going on about, Hawkins?" His jitte was in his hand now as his mind went over the ways he could take down this pirate with minimal casualties. Preferably no casualties. They had no way of knowing if he had used any of the hostages for his little shield trick, so restraint was the only option.
And then he had the audacity to say something about sacrificing civilians. "No one is going to be sacrificed to anyone, Hawkins. Now knock off this shit and come with me."
Smoker wasn't under any illusion, pirates never took the easy option, so he was having his smoke to expand around Hawkins. The density of his smoke increasing to make it harder for Hawkins to move. It'd take a bit of his strength to keep it up, but if he could be distracting enough then the Heart Pirate could lead the hostages to safety before his strength failed.
