Dear Gus & Magnus,
Nene took us to the Children's Theatre today to see a production of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," which you both enjoyed. Afterward we walked over to the playground and ran around, then we went to Loblolly for ice cream. Today's preferred flavors:
Dad -- Double Vanilla, Strawberry Buttermilk in a Loblolly Waffle Cone
Mom -- Funfetti in a bowl
Gus -- Cotton Candy in a regular cone
Mags -- Vanilla Coconut in a bowl
Dad.
Little Rock, Arkansas. 5.27.2023 - 1.58pm.
SIDENOTE: I don't know how Gus scratched his cheek, but it was only around for a day or so.
SIDENOTE #2: Here's some pictures Gus took.

” Am I not right to weep? O my children, cursed children of a hateful mother - ”
#medea#my art#cw blood#cw mild nudity#euripides medea#greek tragedy#greek theatre#this play is Female Rage by excellence#hmm yes the blood of her sons on her face hands breasts and belly the parts of her body that her children knew the most yes indeed#im really proud of this#:)#lots of symbolism here#the red shawl is her hate while the black one is a mourning blanket#it's dwarfed by her heartbreak which enveloped her whole and bears no blood bc it's already red#her eyes are golden like Circe's who's her kinswoman#the handle of the dagger is Jason who isn't explicitly wounded by her but drove her hand (the blame of the murders actually befalling him)#<that's why it's not bloodied unlike the blade which was used to hurt#her tear washed down the blood on her cheek representing her being absorbed of her crime by both the gods and her grief#on the mural behind her is Medea enchanting the dragon while Jason steals the Golden Fleece#and above (right) is Hera and Iris and (left) Helios in his chariot#with female chorus masks lamenting Medea's crime like the chorus in the play#the pose and expression are inspired by the poster for Médée by Mucha for the Théâtre de la Renaissance starring Sarah Bernhardt#overall proud of this#i think women deserve to go a little mad and violent when they're angry. as a treat#anyway thanks Euripides for the 500bc feminism

‘workin’ boys hidgens is so unhinged!! do u think it was pokey’s influence??? that was crazy he literally—’
have you ever stopped to consider that community theatre directors are just like that?
#/J#in my experience the only thing that would make it more realistic is if he was a children’s theatre director#like… they just act like that I think that was normal idk#workin boys#henry hidgens#starkid#hatchetfield

the parallel between Lestat marking all the tenor's flat notes and Armand writing all his aggressive director notes for Claudia on the 500th performance... the performing community of Paris better thank their lucky stars everyday that lesmand didn't become a real couple because there would be no survivors
#they would have all killed themselves within a month..fucking in the box is honestly the kindest thing those bitches could do#modern/human au lesmand run the local youth theatre like the fucking navy#but whenever the moms are around they turn up the cute sassy gay couple charm#so no one even cares/notices that they are giving children permanent psyche issues#on another level though it would probably never work bc Lestat's basic ass would just want to do Shakespeare and classic musicals#while Armand would try to put on NYC black box plays about geopolitical conflicts#iwtv#m.text

was supposed to only skim through a book I need to study for an exam but it actually ended up being interesting. I don't think I'll ever graduate
#it's called fear: a cultural history by joanna bourke#last night i read the chapter about disasters and mass panic#and how if mass panic sets in it'll take 5 minutes for people to start dying. so you have to be able to evacuate in 3-4 minutes#also mass panic sets easily in places where emotions are manipulated ie. theatre and sports stadiums#after the victoria hall disaster in 1883 where children were trampled to death as they scrambled for a toy prize after a theatre show#they invented those doors with the horisontal handles that you can push and they open. the crash bar#which prevents a mass of people getting stuck#anyway. i'm here all week for history trivia#nor's rambles

Thought of the day: Armand has spent more time in France than Lestat by several orders of magnitude. Lestat is born and raised there, but leaves when he’s around 20. While he does come back, as evidenced in moments like the trial, he spends a long time away. Meanwhile Armand was the leader of the Parisian coven for like… 250-300 years, and then the Theatre for another 150. Armand’s spent most of his life in Paris.
I just feel like the amount of time he’s spent there is something I never properly considered, especially when compared to the Frenchman.
How does he feel about watching the city itself changing around him? About the fact that Les Innocents no longer exists? French was fourth and poorest of his languages once, I’m sure it isn’t anymore (speaking of, French, Italian, anyone want to weigh in on what languages three and four are?)
When does the Theatre become an institution on the Boulevard du Temple? Does it as the neighbourhood changes in its entirety? Are there old bones of his former coven members preserved in the Louvre alongside the paintings with him in them?
Is there relief or grief when Les Innocents is destroyed? How about when the theatre goes up in flames? Does he read the news articles talking about its destruction?
Like we all know there’s Venice shaped traumas and rose tinted lenses some days, but tell me more about Armand in Paris. Can he really live somewhere for the 4/5th of his life give it take and then walk away with barely a backward glance.
If he ever returns, what is that like for him?

if you mock children's theatre i hate you 🫶
#one of my favourite shows that i've seen was a production of fiddler on the roof junior#the girl playing hodel was legitimately incredible#and even when children's theatre productions are legitimately not good you should have some fucking sympathy#they're human they make mistakes#and for all you know it could be their first experience with theatre#don't ruin it for them#my first time doing theatre i genuinely sucked but i loved it and kept doing it#and now i'm at the point where i'm looking at majoring in musical theatre#somebody's first show not going well doesn't mean they won't improve#especially if you don't make them feel like shit about not being perfect#also i'm turning 18 this year and i've made so many mistakes onstage#everyone has bad shows#regardless of age#it's not uniquely worthy of mockery for kids to also have bad shows

as an actor who got kind of forced into directing, i'm debating whether i should literally take directing as an act and give them the whole "we still don't have a show" speech, or should i be myself and be like "guys it's a week till opening but we can do this"
#sigh#this is more stressful than i thought it would be#especially when your senior class acts like children#big respect to great directors#musical theatre#musicals#theatre kid#musical#theatre#lei does stem school

I still find it so touching that when pressed for their honest opinion, the Powers That Be reveal that Daniil is their favorite protagonist. Two young children attempting to distract themselves from grief and the frightening reality of death, and their favorite is the man whose life ambition is to defeat it. 🥲
#they also play arguably the cruelest version of the game when he is the lead#perhaps he suffers the most because they’ve placed part of themselves in him. people are often cruelest to themselves#but I also view it through the lens of the struggle one faces when growing up#and how we attempt to make sense of the world through the stories we tell#with all of life’s cruelties and contradictions#see that theatre line ‘the law of gravity is tragically incompatible with dreamcatching. illusions have to be let go of in good time’#vs. the children speaking of you as newly alive and affirming that anything can happen#it’s often tragic but not hopeless. after all you the player afford him a choice that he never gets on his own#sorry he’s rotating in my mind again so expect More Posts about him 🐎#pathologic#daniil dankovsky#pathologic spoilers#📘.txt#games tag

(Idk how this game’s characters work but he’s from this song specifically)
#tbh am i just underestimating how common the “✨whimsical✨ magician top hat card player theatre guy” character type is.. no probably not !#…………..a third entry to the “characters that look like jackle/balan fan children” list#i’ve never seen anyone talk about this game (i don’t think it’s available in the us yet though)
