I did the mistake of entering a blog that unironically reblogs confessional discourse posts and read a lot of stupid takes so here's me debunking them, I guess:
Why didn't the Bad Kids reach out to the Rat Grinders? - They did. Multiple times. The Rat Grinders were mean to them back so the Bad Kids dropped that plan. Ivy was racist about Mazey to hurt Fabian's feelings. Adaine called Oisin cool in one episode and then saw him murder Buddy the next. Fig and Kristen tried to recruit Mary Ann several times and she didn't give a fuck. Ruben fully tried to antagonize Fig when he first saw her because he could. They don't owe them to stick to people who were sucky to them.
From a mechanical standpoint, Brennan did this so they players won't waste time on them and move on to solve the mystery. From a story perspective, it was because the Rat Grinders refused to be saved. They were too brainwashed by rage and they refused to let it go. Even in the last fucking battle Fig tried to reach out as Wanda Childa and Ruben almost killed her with a ninth level spell. I'd say they were pretty fucking patient if you ask me.
The Bad Kids were too mean to the Rat Grinders in the final battle! - No, they were not. Oisin taunted Adaine about her greatest fears before trying to murder the entire student body. Ivy was racist in her last moments and called Mazey "objectively ugly." Ruben was an asshole to everyone he meets. Kipperlilly tried to get them all expelled since episode three. The Rat Grinders sucked as people when they were villains and the Bad Kids had every right to lose their shit.
Fig was too cruel to Ruben. Getting into his dreams was insane - One, Ruben was a villain NPC that won't stop threatening her party. She entered his dreams after he tried getting them kicked out of school by offering them drugs. Pete entered Kingston's dream palace after he threatened to take Pete if he gets out of line again. When PCs get threatened, they act out. Secondly, this is how the team finds out about devil's honey, one of the more important discoveries they've had yet. Her entering his dreams worked.
Thirdly, shatter star Ruben was a creep that dated his fans (an extremely uneven power dynamic) and then made songs out of being toxic in those relationships. Sandra Lynn, Fig's mother, had her life ruined by a man that tricked her into a toxic relationship with an uneven power dynamic. Insane that no one made this connection yet.
How could the Bad Kids kill them when they were forced into being Shatter Starred? - This one pisses me off the most because of how much this is based on hindsight. The Bad Kids didn't know the Rat Grinders were forced into the ritual. They canonically knew few things:
The Rat Grinders joined a rage ritual after their sophomore year spring break adventure
They almost definitely killed their cleric Lucy Frostblade
They famously hated the Bad Kids since forever.
They never went on real adventures and instead grind rats for their first year and then were power leveled by two teachers
Not once was it hinted none of them wanted to commit to the ritual. It was a popular fan theory but that's it. The only one who evidently didn't was Lucy and Yolanda and they found their bodies in the forest with runes written on their bones so they couldn't be brought back.
Isn't it weird how the Bad Kids did a 180 and asked the Rat Grinders to be brought back once the battle was done? - No. They only found out at the very last minute that the only one who did the ritual willingly was Kipperlilly after she died and her lack of a scar was revealed. This was at at the very end of the season finale. Of course the Bad Kids felt bad after they put 2 and 2 together and asked them to be brought back, they were the same way about Ragh and Awelyn when they found out more about their backstories.
It's so shitty of Brennan to not delve into any of the Rat Grinders' backstories - We still don't know if Jawbone is Tracker's biological uncle or not. We don't know if Sandra Lynn's family supported her after the scandal or not. We don't know the name of Ragh's father or any of the mothers' maiden names. A lot of NPCs in Fantasy High have a shit of information missing because only the plot relevant stuff comes up. Some NPCs are more relevant than others, that's just how it is.
I remember when people used to make forums to theorize about a character's past. We made OCs and new cities out of fun when the creators didn't. Where's the fucking joy, man? Where is the fucking whimsy?
I bid you all adieu with this:
Get in the fucking transcripts, for the love of god.
#the worst part is that those same people who complain about the lack of backstory#will get pissed if brennans canon doesnt match perfectly with their theories#they just want to be right and where the fuck is the fun in that#Dimension 20#Fantasy High#FHJY

Some Quick Thoughts
--Sorry I've been on and off of here, everyone! Work's been crazy, and so has home life, but I'm starting to come out of the dreary tunnel now, meaning that I should be back on here a lot more often now.
--My writing motivation has been on and off for the last few weeks, mostly due to getting back to work after getting hit with the 'Rona (after my birthday, which was a double whammy). The project that I was working on before getting sick was The Zula Patrol: Dreamscape Crusade Remastered, but now it's shifted to a few other projects that I haven't worked on in years or are on hiatus. Those projects are Mirror, Mirror, and Sodor Magic Crusaders.
--I haven't really been into Thomas the Tank Engine in a hot minute, but I have kinda been into Nanoha again. And I'm about 45% through the actual sixteenth chapter, where things go wrong for multiple characters. I also had a cool idea to switch up how Emily is handled in this story, since I don't want it to be a total cut and paste from the canon events in Nanoha (the fic itself already plays fast and loose with canon as many Devices that appear later in the series appear in the first installment, Mid-Childa doesn't exist, and rather than the Jewel Seeds, we get the Book of Transformation).
I'm also doing a total readthrough of the story to get up to speed with what's going on, and the difference between my old writing style and my current writing style is like night and day, haha! I'm still planning on rewriting a few chapters to make things clearer and clean up any errors/descriptions. At least, until I decide to get the ball rolling on The REMAKE 1st. And while SRBA was unanimously the top pick for a DCR-style remaster, a few people wanted to see this project, too.
--Mirror, Mirror's fifth chapter is something I've been working on for the better part of two years. I'm raising the stakes here in this chapter! Like SMC, I'm about 40% done with this chapter; just adding a few points from ideas and brainstorms I had, and working off of that.
--Sheriff Callie's Wild West has also been tickling the brain a little. I've been trying to get to chapter 7 of You've Got My Attention for the longest, but everything I've tried has not worked. Yesterday, though, I had a little idea on what exactly happened in Callie's past that's made her so closed off on love and why what those criminals did crossed the line. I haven't even started on this chapter yet, though, so please don't rush my inbox with messages about when it'll be done!
--A huge thanks to the folks who have been reblogging my ZP stuff from last year, including all the ship art ^^ Actually, thanks to everyone who's been reblogging/liking my art. Especially the art that I did with Chuck E, because I was not expecting that kind of response. It really makes my day!
--I do have a mini art bomb coming soon. I've been drawing more and want to share what I've been working on!
--And last but not least, I will get to doing my Animation Bucket List soon, because reading through my old Netflix Bucket Lists made me realize that I missed doing 'em. And since I've seen a lot of anime since then, I really want to share what I liked, hated, and am ambivalent on.

i was fig- but i was disguised as wanda childa, so i also was her. my parents (sandra lynn and jawbone) were driving somewhere and for some reason or another, we picked up agent clark of the side of the road because he needed a ride.
so i was sitting in the back seat pulling out every skill with lying i have ever gained in my life and chewing gum really loudly, as he was asking questions about me. basic stuff and i responded in a kind of snotty teenager way, until he asked if he could look at my contact in my phone or any social media
it was raining really heavily and we had some of the windows down so i used to excuse of having to wipe down my phone to go quickly change one of the contacts in my phone to 'wanda' and the image of it into this weird brooding aesthetic art, and then pulled up a burner tumblr account with no bio and only reblogs and just handed my phone to him. and i watched him go through it looking more and more upset with each moment as i was trying not to laugh my ass off because now he did think wanda childa was a real person
and he handed my phone back to me SO upset, and the whole time i have to talk in that stupid little tiny wanda childa voice and was very gently (condescendingly) like "are you okkkk :(?" and he just shook his head and was like. i HAVE to get out of here
im literally so serious last night i had a fucking dream i was wanda childa
#at the very end i said or did something that was so out of left field (very me and very fig) that he instantly realized#and sandra lynn instantly just went 'gddammit' and pulled the car over really aggressively#i looove being wanda childa now i get it. its so fun#fhjy

I’m reblogging this mostly for the comment on Nanoha:
Finally, Nanoha worked as part of a space police force, literally the most corrupt institution of all.
Which, given StrikerS is probably canonical given the Mid-Childa was, until the end of the series, run by three giant brains in jars.
I really shouldn't, but this post has such a misunderstanding of "edgy magical girls", and the girls within them, that I feel the need to dissect it.
So first off, let's identify some edgy Magical Girl shows. Madoka, Yuuki Yuuna, Magical Girl Site, Magical Girl Raising Project, Magical Girl Spec Ops Asuka, and let's just throw in Nanoha and Machikado Mazoku for some hot take points. As a side note, I like 3 of these (Madoka, Nanoha, and Machikado), and mostly dislike the rest.
Now you might not know it, but excluding Asuka, these shows all have 1 thing in common. Y'know besides being Magical Girls. That thing is that the system under which they work, is corrupt, or at the very least not vested in their best interest.
In Madoka, Kyubey uses the girls to solve his entropy problem by creating a system where the Magical Girls are their own cyclical problem.
In Raising Project, too many Magical Girls are created by the app moderators, who decide to have them fight another instead of working out any kind of rationing system for Magical Powers (and there's probably more, but I actually haven't watched thus).
In Site, the girls are pitted against each other by moderators, and when Magical Girls do try to work together to break this system, they are taken out before they can build a good resistance.
In Yuuki Yuuna, the girls are literally used as sacrificial maidens to fight a neverending war against deities for the sake of protecting this 1 city. While they're able to defeat the Gods, the true enemy in the end turns out to be the God who gave them their powers.
In Machikado Mazoku, I believe it turns out that the familiars who grant Magical Girls their powers and have them fight demons have some underlying motivations, and aren't being fully honest with the Magical Girls under them. (Again, need to read more of the manga to confirm)
Finally, Nanoha worked as part of a space police force, literally the most corrupt institution of all.
Anyway, most "edgy magical girl" shows aren't concerned with the big bad, at least not in the shows I I above. But the existential dread of living in a system that works against your very needs and wants. Except for Asuka, which just puts in a lot of death and military shit into a pretty standard Magical Girl concept.
So if any of these girls suddenly found themselves as a familiar able to grant powers to Magical Girls. I think they'd be happy, knowing the system they're working for isn't corrupt like the ones in their own. Since they're the one who control it.
Also, lol at the ending bit blaming the "edgy Magical Girls" for their failures.
"Systemic sexism?! Hogwash! Obviously the issue is that you girls are stupid and don't want it enough."
