30 Day OC Challenge: Introductions

OK so what happened is, I came up with like, this whole collection of millennial OCs who all know each other. They are all my precious children and I want to tell you about them, so here goes!! This challenge recommends starting with “first impressions” but I’m gonna do that and how they came into existence in my brain.

Kendrick: male/experimenting with a genderqueer identity. White. Most of his hair is dark and cropped short except for a longer, bleached section at the top of his head. He has a neat, short beard and light blue eyes. He’s kinda tall, pretty jacked. Dresses like a hipster. Likes the way he looks in feminine or at least femme presentation, isn’t sure yet what that means. | He exists...... because I wanted someone I could consistently draw for Kinktober over on the other blog. He’s kinky as fuck, my friends and foes.

Lucy: cis female. Blonde, shoulder-length hair with sideswept bangs. Chubby. Has dimples when she smiles. Looks very glamorous, like she is very experienced in having a lot of money. (Because she is very experienced in having a lot of money.) Accessorizes very well. When dressing casually, she likes to wear dresses with loose skirts.There’s a (nsfw for nudity) picture of her here. | Her creation followed Kendrick’s; they’re married and they adore each other.

Jiang Wu: male, I haven’t decided whether he’s trans or cis yet; depends on where I wanna go with the scene I’m writing that includes him. Second-generation Chinese American. ...Honestly I’ve not drawn him yet to solidify exactly what he looks like but in the meantime I’m basically picturing Manny Jacinto aka Jason Mendoza from The Good Place. He dresses a bit hipster too, but a more casual hipster than Kendrick’s. | He’s appearing in a smutty scene I’m writing about Lucy and Kendrick. |D

Cat Ibarra: cis female. White-passing Latina. Petite with straight dark hair slightly longer than shoulder length. Freckles across her face and on her shoulders. She’s capable of rocking a femme professional look, but left to her own devices, she dresses for comfort and wears casual ungendered clothes but in a feminine way? If that makes sense. Tends to wear long sleeves to hide self-injury scars. | OK so maybe you know Cat already!! She’s the main character of my novella “The Loophole” Obligatory Amazon Link. Fun fact, the original source for her character is uhhh this smutty fanfic I wrote for Ace Attorney Investigations so she’s originally an expy of “““““Calisto Yew.”“““““” “Loophole” is... kinda her bad end. This continuity is going to be a better end for her. ...But life’s still gonna be hard for her for a while.

Jessica: trans female. Jewish. Haven’t figured out her appearance yet. Taller than Cat, but that’s not hard. I’ll get back to you on that one. | She came into existence when I wanted to write a one-shot about revised!Cat. Was initially a Tinder date for Cat, they hit it off in spite of Cat’s significant self-worth issues.

Ridley: agender. Stocky, a bit taller than Cat. White. Younger than most of these characters, might actually be Gen Z or on the cusp depending on when I want to set this in time. Buzzes their hair. Tends to wear very rough clothing. Ripped denim vests over graphic t-shirts and cargo jeans. Glasses. | They came into existence in the process of revising Cat’s story; the two of them meet at a church support group for “~those suffering from same-sex attraction~,” both ordered to attend by their respective parents. Cat wants to prove that it’s possible to be queer and happy so that they have hope for the future, but... she’s not well enough herself to be a mentor yet.

Giselle: cis female. Thin and a bit willowy but not tall. Likes to dye her hair in neon colors in the blue/purple range, at least during college; it’s wavy and sweeps her shoulders. Gray eyes. Pointed chin and a nose that’s a bit beakier than she likes. Goddamn stunning when she smiles. A bit of an edgy femme look. Wears simple jewelry. | ...Giselle came into existence entirely as a repository for headcanons I have about Red Transistor that are so far divorced from canon text that like there’s no point in calling them thoughts about Red but also I really like the characterization so creates a new OC here she is!!! But then she immediately became unlike Red. ...Mostly in the fact that she is nerdy as hell and not at all in cool ways.

Chichima: cis female. Very dark-skinned first generation Nigerian-American. Other than that I’ve got nothing on her so far in terms of looks, will work on this. | She was Giselle’s college girlfriend, although they broke up when Giselle’s mental health took a nosedive.

General info:

He's currently twenty-two years old, has dirty blond hair that has that perfect skater boy era scruff, and heterochromatic eyes! His left eye is yellow and his right eye is blue! (I don't think that is accurate for humans, but he nEEDS HIS CAT EYES OKAY??)

He's about 5 foot 9 inches tall, taller than Satan by a lil (SATAN IS SHORT KING HEADCANON FOREVER). He's also kinda pale and covered in colorful Hello Kitty bandaids from getting scratched by animals and sticks all the time.

He's almost always wearing a cat-shirt, meme or otherwise; always wears a watch, and he usually wears cargo shorts for the pockets. He doesn't have a shoe preferance, but has some standards.

He works at an animal shelter at the edge of town, and works with two other elderly people. He loves animals, but kitties are his favorite.

Oh. He's also gay. (for Satan especially, but a simp in general)

Background Info:

Godfrey was born in a little town, small population. His parents are sweethearts and try to understand him, but he feels kind of like there's a wall between them? It's hard to explain. They don't see each other all the time, but he loves them so very much. He is currently rooming with his bestie, Aziza Chichima (she/her, straight ally).

He had a pretty normal childhood, and met Aziza when he was seventeen, a tough time in his life. He had just recently come out to his 'friends' at the time, and he was belittled and judged harshly because of it. He spiraled into a dark place, even contemplated giving up at times. Aziza was friendly and sweet, and she really helped him through. His parents tried, but they just couldn't graps the situation for what it was. They tried, are still trying, but it's hard for them. They were raised in a different world, taught different things, and tried to raise Godfrey better. They succeded in that.

After that, he took up a job at the shelter out at the edge of town, right by the four-way stop. The elderly couple that works there was ready to throw in the towel. They couldn't repair the damages by themselves, and no one had ever helped them before. Godfrey accepted the job eagerly, not even caring about pay.

He works there to this day, and that's where he met Satan! But that is not the point I am making!!

Personality:

Godfrey is a very chill person, ignoring his temper until he has a clear head on the matter. He rarely ever is in arguements, and he is a natural defuser of the tense situation. He's very punny, so expect a lot of groans of appreciation and hatred to surround him.

He's not big on reading, but he will listen to an entire three-day spheal on your fav series. (He has done it for Satan. A lot.) Don't ask him to make the choices on what to do, or where to eat. He's pretty indecisive. Despite how chill he is, he is deeply intuned with his emotions. He cries over cute things, he feels every emotion to the max, and he loves physical contact. Just holding hands makes him the happiest man in the world.

He is also a FREAKING SIMP. He is not afraid to compliment looks, style, or just taste! He falls fast and hard, but he tries not to rush into anything. Satan is his first real relationship, and he never wants to let go.

Una moto taxi me llevaría hasta el hospedaje con una gran sonrisa en el ánimo, pero con la pena asociada al afroperuano. Despojados de sus orígenes se aferraron a la cruz rogando amor y ni tan siquiera cinco siglos después se les otorga. Desembarcaron 500 guineanos con Pizarro en las costas peruanas, siendo con ello tan antiguos y extranjeros como el europeo, han derramado mucha más sangre por el país y ha sido la explotación de sus vidas y el esfuerzo de sus manos, junto a las del indígena, las que enriquecieron las monarquías europeas. En la actualidad el racismo sigue contribuyendo a que los imperios comerciales continúen el expolio.

Después de cenar un buen ceviche a un precio aceptable, me acerqué a la plaza de Armas, la animación a pesar de ser sábado era poca. El vestuario, especialmente en las jóvenes, tenía un toque festivo, cruzándose la modernidad con un elegante clasicismo. La calle Comercio estaba más vacía que por la tarde, la mayor parte de las tiendas estaban cerradas. No me sentí increpado por miradas extrañas, ni sentí miedo de ser atracado, aunque lo que llevaba encima era tan solo lo imprescindible; pero sí percibí mayor actividad en la venta de sustancias prohibidas o la venta de objetos que, dado el precio escuchado, presumí robados. No supe encontrar un bar para tomarme el último “Pisco sour” en forma de despedida, por lo que fue corto el paseo y me dirigí caminando tranquilamente hacia los aposentos.

Pasados treinta minutos de las diez ya estaba en la habitación buscando artículos para completar la historia del afroperuano, que de forma un tanto anárquica pero muy instructiva me habían explicado. Creí descubrir las circunstancias que determinaron el mestizaje particular de este departamento y una comprensión más amplia de esa ignominia humana que representó la esclavitud. La lectura de algunas crónicas de esos tres largos siglos (la última llegada de esclavos oficialmente se produjo en 1810) fue aún más inhumana que la escuchada.

Me sorprendió la cantidad de esclavos que pudieron fugarse, unos se convertían en bandidos y otros se escondieron en las montañas creando comunidades de cimarrones (palenques). Los huidos eran tantos que en Lima se pagaba un impuesto fijo para la captura de los cimarrones. Mejor no explicaré las ejemplarizantes atrocidades al ser capturados vivos, difícilmente los mataban ya que tenían que amortizar su compra, por lo que pagarían caro en vida su osadía.

También se desmentía la idea, promovida e incentivada por el europeo, de una mala relación entre el indígena y el africano. La primera gran rebelión en el Perú tuvo lugar a principios del siglo XVII en Vilcabamba, encabezada por el indígena, Francisco Chichima. En el siglo siguiente el movimiento de Tupac Amaru agrupó la adhesión de muchas comunidades afroperuanas. Medio siglo después engrosarían en primera fila las fuerzas republicanas en busca de una libertad que tardaría varias décadas y múltiples protestas en conquistarse. Se les concedería al ser reemplazados por nuevos esclavos: los chinos. Con la explotación del asiático generarían los grandes beneficios del guano (ya escribí sobre su ignominia en Paracas) y compensarían a las grandes haciendas por el número de esclavos que perdían, calculándose unos 25.000. La corrupción fue habitual y muchos terratenientes declararon más de los que tenían.

Pero la tragedia del afroperuano continuó. En la calle, libre pero sin sustento, sin aposento, sin tierras... Muchos continuarían en las haciendas, algunos a la fuerza (haciendas aisladas) y muchos por necesidad al verse abocados a la hambruna. Pero la actitud más generalizada fue alejarlos lo máximo de los núcleos urbanos, tenían miedo a la venganza por las tropelías hasta entonces infligidas. Marginados morirían en la indigencia acumulando enfermedades (carecían de asistencia médica) mientras que el país se enriquecía con el guano. El ingreso en el ejército fue un modo de sobrevivir a la vez que poder ganar su nacionalidad, pero el país seguiría marginándolos un siglo después a pesar de concederles medallas por sus heroicas acciones.

Antes de dormirme me introduje en foros de noticias actuales, encontré textos de los usuarios que por la red exponían opiniones en contra o en favor de lo expuesto por algún personaje público; si éste era afroperuano la disidencia adquiría siempre expresiones racistas, “negro/a de mierda” es de los más suave que encontré. Por no hablar que aún aumentaba la gravedad si era mujer. Es verdad que xenófobos y machistas existen en todas partes, pero me sorprendió su cantidad en un país en el que todos son mestizos o mulatos, declarados o sin declarar. En realidad encontré un país en el que el mestizo, tendencia diametralmente opuesta en Bolivia, aún busca emblanquecer su origen y ocultar en la medida de lo posible su ancestro indígena, mucho más el africano.

Los turistas tenemos que obviar precisamente esa mirada extraña que aún ciñe nuestros inconscientes mal educados en el eurocentrismo. Valoramos al indígena en su lucha por recuperar su orgullo, sus creencias y valores ancestrales como pueblo originario; incluso algunos nos sentimos culpables por pertenecer al reino que expolió sus vidas y riquezas con tal crudeza. Pero nos olvidamos del afroperuano con facilidad, personas a las que se le despojó de orgullo territorial, étnico y cultural, lograron mantener sus creencias transformándolas en sincréticas manifestaciones católicas, sus ritmos y voces se expresan en las fiestas nacionales y ningún peruano puede renegar de su herencia, al igual que reconocen que sus mejores jugadores de fútbol han sido afroperuanos. Un respeto nacional y étnico que el extranjero estamos obligados a mostrar y dignificar.

Posiblemente la conversación con los jóvenes pisqueños ha sido la más larga escrita durante el viaje, sus argumentos son una expresión subjetiva (espero haber realizado una correcta síntesis), quizás no muestra la opinión general ni la opinión de un intelectual, pero para mí tuvo gran importancia, ya que nunca durante el viaje el peso de la historia y su presente se habían cruzado de forma tan relevante en una conversación circunstancial. No hablamos de políticos ni de políticas, ya no confiaban en ellos, ya que el problema es el “status quo” racial y económico que la propia sociedad mantiene, haciendo que las promesas electorales nunca se cumplan.

Sahil "Sal" al Asim — (eldest) son of Kalim (I DON'T SEE HIM GETTING TOGETHER WITH ANYONE BUT I SEE HIM AS A FAMILY MAN. I am debating making his other parent Floyd because I like flokali but idk), Sahil's name comes from like. Relating to large bodies of water/the ocean and stuff.

Zahara Kingscholar — daughter of Leona, her name means brilliant because she is idk.

Marie Flamme — daughter of Rollo and Rielle, her name literally just comes from the Aristocats and like. yeahhhh. she's French lol

Anja Felmier-Zigvolt — daughter of Epel and Sebek, her name is just a Scandanavian version of Anna because I wanted to showcase Epel's heritage. I was going to name her after Epel's meemaw but refrained.

Eury "Joker" Howl — child of Ace, Deuce, and Jack; Eury's name comes from Euchre the card game using jokers, hence his nickname— it's because Ace/Deuce/Jack have card names that's all. But I thought I was being smart.

Celeste Schoenheit — daughter of Rook and Vil, Celeste and Soleil are twins so they have sun/moon related names. She's the moon.

Soleil Schoenheit — son or Rook and Vil (twins with Celeste, neither is much older); see Celeste's name thing, he's the sun.

Parthiv Khan — son of two of my ocs based on characters from the jungle book, Khan from Shere Khan because I am basic lol.
