Curiosities pt.3: Museum - Now Free!.
Hello hi! I'm so excited to finally share the third part of the Curiosities set with you! This set is something that i feel like i just want to keep working on and on, mostly because i love the theme and working on the meshes has been so fun! But i will take a small break from this set so i can find fresher ideas for the next and final part of it, and i will start working on the manga set! (The poll ended on a tie, but decided to start with the manga set since its the one that received more comments and suggestions! (: looking foward to start working on it!)
---
I want to share credits to the sources i used to create this pack:
*Most of my dinosaur exhibits were inspired by real life reconstructions displayed on museums, including the Royal Tyrrell Museum in Canada (x), the Natural History Museum in London (x), the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago (x) and Helsinki's Natural History Museum in Finland (x).
*I used Scott Hartman's work (x) in order to see the reconstructions in 2D, sadly since i needed to lower the polygons on my meshes i couldn't preserve as much detail on the dinosaurs, but if you are interested to learn more i highly encourage you to visit his page.
*If you are interested in learning more about the loss of Stromer's Spinosaurus during WWII here is a link that shares its story (x).
*For some swatches on the info panels i used my own edited screenshots from Prehistoric Kingdom's Game, you can find it on Steam! (Currently in early access).

---! This pack is was on Early Access, but went public on July 28th. !---

New England's Forgotten Vampire Panic
Tumblr media
The myth of vampires comes from Bulgaria's Krvoijac. The origins of vampires come from porphyria, a hereditary blood disease that causes the body to produce less heme; tuberculosis, which causes wasting; pellagra, a disease that thins the skin; and rabies. The first use of the word vampire was in 1047 in an Old Russian text, in which the term "upir" was used. The myth of vampires drinking blood comes from a combination of Slavic and Christian beliefs. It originated in 18th-century Western Europe. It could be from many things, such as dead bodies being found with blood in their mouths due to pressure building in the mouths of decomposed bodies, causing blood to pool in their mouths; or, before modern treatment for porphyria, some physicians recommended that their patients drink animal blood to make up for their red blood cell defect. Lastly, the blood-drinking aspect of vampires could be inspired by Vlad Tepes, also known as Vlad Draculae or Vlad the Impaler, seeing as he drank the blood of his victims.
Much like the fear of witches that swept Salem in 1692 and the fear of satanic rituals in 1980, the fear of vampires swept New England in the 1800s. The vampires were believed to visit and take the lives of their living relatives. Over the course of a century, 70 bodies of suspected vampires were exhumed to check for signs of vampirism. If they found signs of vampirism, such as appearing to have longer hair or fingernails, the townspeople would perform a ritual to kill the vampire. The ritual performed varied from one state to another. For example, in Connecticut, the rearrangement of a suspected vampire's bones was a common vampire-killing ritual. In contrast, in Rhode Island, where our story starts, the removal and burning of organs was standard, like in Mercy Brown's case.
Welcome to Exeter, Rhode Island. The year is 1892, and the people of Exeter knew farmer George Brown had a problem. First, his wife, Mary Eliza Brown, died due to consumption on December 8, 1883. Mary Eliza was a strong, hardworking woman who worked on the farm with her husband. By the spring of the following year, life started to drain from Mercy's older sister, Mary Olive, a twenty-year-old dressmaker. She complained of nightmares, which began to suck the life from her, and only became more pale and macilent as the nights passed. Only six months after her mother passed, Mary Olive joined her in eternal rest.
Two years passed, and George and Mary's only son, Edwin, began to show symptoms of the lurid disease. Dreadful dreams of suffocation and drowning stole Edwin's rest, and in the mornings, he felt like the blood had been sucked from his body. Friends advised him to travel west to Colorado Springs, hoping the esteemed spa would help restore his health and vitality. Ultimately, Edwin took the advice and traveled west with his bride, Hortense Spaulding. It seemed to work; the western climate appeared to arrest the progress of the disease. But, when his sister, Mercy, passed, he traveled back to Exeter. All progress made while out west seemed to evaporate as Edwin's health deteriorated again.
Edwin began to complain about visits from his sister. During febrile dreams, Edwin would cry out, "She was here," "she wants me to come with her," and "she haunts me." Rumors spread like the plague throughout the small community, and superstitions took over. The townspeople, now fearing their health, began to beg George to dig up the women's bodies, figure out who was to blame, and rid Edwin of the malicious spirit stealing his health and tainting his dreams. And George did just that. He took a small group of men to Chesnut Hill Cemetery, where his wife and daughters were buried, and began exhuming their bodies.
George's wife and daughter, Mary Olive, were both found to be "appropriately decomposed." But, when they got to exhuming Mercy, fear struck the men. Mercy had longer nails, hair, and fresh blood in her heart. The men took Mercy's body from her grave, removed her liver and heart, and burned them on a rock near her grave. Then, the ashes were put into Edwin's medication, as it was believed to be a tonic against consumption. Edwin died four months after Mercy, on May 2, 1892.
While most accounts of the Brown family end here, this one doesn't. Consumption continued to take George's children until there was only one left.
Annie Laura Brown, born in 1869, married Charles Edward Taylor on May 17, 1886, at the age of 17 and died on August 9, 1895, at 25.
Jennie Adeline Brown, born in 1877, married William Henry Edwards on May 13, 1894, at 17 and died on October 2, 1895, at 18.
Myra Frances Brown, born in 1882, married Arthur Freemont Caswell on May 21, 1898, at 17, and died about a year later on June 25, 1899, also at 18. She died of Phthisis, which is an old Greek term for pulmonary tuberculosis.
Hattie May Brown was the only surviving child of George and Mary; she was their fifth child. Born in 1875, Hattie married Alvin Luke Clarke on December 25, 1890, when she was just 15 years old. The couple had three daughters: Hattie Clarke, born in 1894; Myra Susan Clarke, born in 1896; and Janette "Nettie" Clarke, born in 1898. Hattie divorced Alvin in 1910 and later remarried Frank Everett Pierce in 1920. She lived until 1954, passing away at the age of 79.

I tried to visualize Black Spire Valley and its surroundings. The map isn't looking any good, but I posted it anyway because it serves as a demonstration how the semi open world can be both a blessing and a curse. (And also of why "keep sims in their homeworlds" mods aren't working for my gameplay style.)
The list is formatted like this: Map key - Name of the resion in my story (Sims 4 world used)
A - The planet MOONWOOD
A - The Moonwood with the ruins of failed settlements (Moonwood Mill, Forgotten Hollow and the forest neighborhood of Henford)
A1 - Moonwood Jungle region (Selvadorada)
Not pictured - Dreadhorse Cavern, directly opposite of the jungle (Chestnut Ridge, but only Dreadhorse Cavern with the little creek)
B to H - The planet BATUU
B - Black Spire with space port and downtown (Batuu First Order district and Cantina disctrict) Most of the npcs live here in my headcanon.
Black Spire is the highest point on the map.
C - The forest west of Black Spire (Glimmerbrook, without Magic Realm) Many npcs live here scattered on several farms.
D - The Resistance camp in the forest (Batuu Resistance camp)
E - The countryside east of Black Spire Hank with his family lives here. (Willow Creek Park district plus a single lot from Chestnut Ridge that is used for the public bath)
F - Black Spire Valley (countryside neighborhood of Henford) My main families live here: Tico, Dree and Dameron. The actual town Henford isn't used for anything yet - on the map I copied Black Spire over it to show this.
G - The Chestnut Ridges This is where the horse races took place and where the park with the chess boards is. (Chestnut Ridge upper district)
The diner and the orchard are placed in the Chestnut Ridges, but in-story the diner is in Black Spire (B) and the orchard somewhere in the countryside (most likely H)
H - More countryside Caroline and John live here. (Chesnut Ridge lower district)
J - VALARA, a moon of Batuu Kylo lives here alone. (Oasis Springs, and there specifically the dinosaur neighborhood and Stargazer lounge. Other sections of this world may be used to represent different planets later)
K - The planet HOTH (snowed over neighborhood of Mount Komorebi)
L - The planet CEREA (the other two neighborhoods of Mount Komorebi)
M - The abandoned Jedi temple The temple is "somewhere on Batuu" and it is inferred that it takes anything from a few hours to several days travel to get here from Black Spire. No description of the biome surrounding it was given in the story so far. (Willow Creek, Oakenstead neighborhood, but I can move this around if needed)
Not pictured but either visited by my sims or mentioned in the story:
The planet Crait (Grim's Quarry from Evergreen Harbour)
Tartosa (Tartosa) The Ticos held their wedding here.
Mua Pel'am (Mua Pel'am from Sulani) In an older story Mua Pel'am and Tartosa were close by, that may not be the case in this chronicle again.
Finally I should note that everyone who doesn't get played is stuffed into empty lots in Newcrest in groups of eight, sorted by their allegiance.

power plays & straight a’s (cu #1) - college hockey romance, brother’s best friend where the hockey player is trying to earn an nhl contract at the end of the season while captaining the team to a championship, while his twin brother asks him to look out for his awkward best friend who just moved to his college for grad school
face offs & cheap shots (cu #2) - college hockey romance, two teammates who have never seen eye to eye are up against each other for the captaincy, they do a bunch of stupid competitions and become closer
⭐️ goal lines & first times (cu #3) - college hockey romance, with hidden identities, the hockey player is coming to terms with his sexuality using a dating app, and the other guy is the twin brother from the first book who doesn’t like hockey, sick of being compared to his hockey player twin with ace/demi rep
⭐️ line mates & study dates (cu #4) - college hockey romance, where the hockey player is struggling to help his older brother raise their younger siblings after their parents die, and therefore, he needs tutoring to keep his grades up and conveniently the coach’s son is very smart and is also the equipment manager for the team, and they shouldn’t do anything for a variety of reasons, but a reward system for good grades seems to work
puck drills & quick thrills (cu #5) - college hockey adjacent romance, the hockey player hating professor meets the assistant hockey coach who is raising his younger siblings (see previous book) after giving up his nhl contract, they fake date for a high school reunion, obviously they must fall in love
📚 consider me (playing for keeps #1) - pro hockey romance (vancouver), he’s a playboy, she doesn’t want to get hurt
📚 play with me (playing for keeps #2) - pro hockey romance (vancouver), best friend (and captain’s) little sister who really likes sex toys (?)
powerless (chesnut springs #3) - pro hockey romance (vancouver), childhood infatuation on her part turned pining on both their parts like 18 years later, she’s about to marry someone else but that falls apart so he rescues her and then his bff goes missing overseas and now he needs the rescuing. also, he’d a goalie!
⭐️ isn’t it bromantic (bromance book club #3) - pro hockey (nashville) childhood besties to marriage of convenience, he wants to use what he learns from romance novels to convince her to give their relationship a real shot, she’s running from the past

⭐️ season’s change (trade season #1) - pro hockey (dc), veteran hockey player wants to start fresh on his new team and gets a rookie roommate who is dedicated to his craft, and they continue to get closer even though neither of them can afford a distraction
⭐️ contract season (trade season #2) - pro hockey (nashville), the hockey player just broke up with his boyfriend because he doesn’t want to come out, the country artist performer at a wedding he attends catches his eye and they sleep together before he ghosts him, unfortunately they get outed, and must fake a relationship to deal with the press
too much man (firebirds #1) - pro hockey adjacent, he’s just retired and is looking to leave town soon, while she owns a queer friendly coffee shop and has no time for a personal life, friends with benefits is obviously the only solution
📚 hat trick hearts (thunderclap #1) - pro hockey (tampa bay), an mmfm grouping, they all had a history together in college but are reunited now on tampa bay’s team, she’s digging for inspiration for her newest romance novel and wondering how they could all fit back together
📚 game changer series
📚 puckboys series
baseball
📚 don’t you dare - college baseball romance, after they’re dared to kiss at a party these besties can’t stop crossing lines they never thought they would cross
bromance book club (bromance book club #1) - pro baseball (nashville) their marriage is in trouble, and it turns out she’s been faking it in bed for years, and when she asks for a divorce he turns to an unlikely source for help: a book club of men use romance novels to help their relationships.

📚 the right move (windy city #2) - pro basketball (chicago), best friend’s sister turned roommates turned fake dating with a side of a horrible ex bf and a petty team gm
football
fair catch (red zone rivals #1) - brother’s best friend turned roommates at school, where they’re both on the football team, he’s a kick returner and she’s the kicker, there’s a lot of trouble in their past but the close proximity is blurring all the lines

📚 playbooks series

dried brown leaves – we look up in hope.
the familiar canopy of trees behind the school, gilded by afternoon sunlight.
looks like royalty. shiny horse chesnuts roll beneath my feet; you roll around my mind.
glistening grass and we're so grateful. giving each other weak but content smiles.
a small squirrel bounds skittishly across the shaded concrete and into the woods.
looking back up now and the trees are at their most tender; shaking off their amber manes (out with the old)
the naive verdance of spring has passed — not without loss.
but maybe that's what we were meant for. life seems to shift into sepia tones as i cherish you with my eyes.

What if Lexa had curly hair before she was turned into Medusa? When she was cursed, her curly hair transformed and writhed into vipers
That's the plan!
Lexa was a beautiful young priestess, the most beautiful in Athena's temple. Modest, but confident in her beauty. Known for her flawless skin and soft, enchanting smile, eyes that could charm the pantheon of gods, deep and intense like they can look right through your soul. And her hair, chesnut laced with gold that sparkles on brilliantly sunny days. Always tied back in loose, wild ringlets. With spring flowers and delicate vines weaved between and atop the luscious locks like a crown. But after her ~affair~ with Poseidon, where once it was an honor to have such a beauty worship in her temple, they were just one more thing for Athena to loathe about the sight of her. To use as mockery in her curse

Meet Cheyenne.
23 | Cheyenne lived in oasis springs but made the big move to Chesnut Ridge after the sad news of her grandmothers passing. Umber reached out after the will reading to let Cheyenne know that she was left the family home. Will she adjust to life here or will taking care of a small ranch be too much to ask?

My spirit, hasty
A sonnet sequence
               1
With scoff; and to known; human loves in light with my father’s are but the hall—a babe an idle glimmering in ripples will she waxen rise; thy tongues. To ever strife! But the Valley, basil sweetheart of musing an end. Hand one house; he plaining, and studding look behind? Flash of why lips and Nature let through of the day a shower’d skimming forth fresh fire. Macbeth
- Well, the bad news is the list of named plants is supershort:
- chesnuts
- primrose
- corn (not American corn, but old world grains (I think))
- rhubarb
- senna
Chestnuts would be a decent tree option, a cheap too if you can grow from either chestnuts (seeds) or hardwood cuttings. Primroses are a nice springtime flower, and could bring some yellow/white color. Corn/grains are also dead-easy to grow from seeds. Rhubarb is sold as bareroot plants in late winter/early spring in my area in superstores, and would be producing a crop in a few years if I’ve understood what I’ve seen on Gardener’s World about them. Senna is mentioned alongside rhubarb as a laxative/curative by Macbeth; I would advise holding off on growing it until you’ve done extensive research, both on how it might grow in your climate and if it might interact via contact with any of your medications.
As you can see, the pickings are pretty paltry BUT, the good news is that some scholars think that the famous witches’ spell (double bubble, and all that) contains several folk names for plants and herbal medicines. Using this site I’ve come up with some plants that would be suitable for a casual gardener’s Witches Brew Garden:
-Toad entrails = Toadflax,  Linaria vulgaris
-  Fillet of a fenny snake =  Yarrow,  Achillea millefolium; Bistort/Snakeroot,  Bistorta officinalis; Plantains/Fleaworts, Plantago genus (lots of common weeds fall under these names)
- Eye of newt = mustard seeds
- Toe of frog =  Bulbous buttercup,   Ranunculus bulbosus
- Wool of bat = holly leaves
- Tongue of dog =  Houndstounge,  Cynoglossum officinale
- Adder’s fork = Dog’s tooth violet,  Erythronium
-  Blind-worm’s sting = Poppies, Papaver somniferum
- Lizard’s leg = Ivy (choose one that that is not listed as invasive in your area)
- Scale of dragon = Tarragon,  Artemisia dracunculus (or  Tagetes lucida if you want to grow from seed)
-  Liver of blaspheming Jew (yikes) = Mugwort,  Artemisia vulgaris
-  Gall of Goat = Honeysuckle,  Lonicera sempervirens (or your areas natural honeysuckle species; definitely do not plant amur honeysuckle);  St. John’s Wort,  Hypericum perforatum
-  Slips of yew = Yew,  Taxus baccata (or local species)
-  Finger of birth-strangled babe = Cinqefoil, Potentilla genus
-  Tiger’s Chaudron = Lady’s mantle,  Alchemilla mollis
- Owlet’s wing = garlic or ginger
Personally, I have two plastic cauldrons that I am planning to use for some Macbeth gardens.
