Had to start somewhere. Very slow and steady on this run, but it’s the furthest I’ve done in a long long time. I’ve been avoiding running. Some people love the ‘headspace’ but for me sometimes I just run abs doubt myself and argue with myself and rake up a whole load of shit because my mind has too much time to explore. When I’m lifting, I’m focusing on the lifting and timing and stability but running just makes me think too much. I hadn’t really taken account of the long lasting effects of trauma until recently. I had been thinking to myself ‘come on Sophie get your shit together enough now’ instead of thinking ‘you know what, that was a really tough traumatic experience and you had to give up control, the one thing you thrive on, so give yourself time to get the control back’. I have to embrace my inner control freak and realise that having the rug pulled out from under my feet at the end of last year, disrupting our whole routine and lifestyle WAS a BIG DEAL and I should embrace that. Moving forward I hope I can improve on running by having more positive thought processes, but I’ll admit that whilst the fresh air is great and the dog walkers and families saying ‘good morning’ is heart warming, really really I’ll just keep this to occasional and stick to where I can control my thoughts- in the gym.
