"Kryashens (Kryashen: кряшенняр, Tatar: керәшен(нәр), [k(e)ræˈʃen(nær)], Russian: кряшены; sometimes called Baptised Tatars(Russian: крещёные тата́ры)) are a sub-group of the Volga Tatars, frequently referred to as one of the minority ethnic groups in Russia. They are mostly found in Tatarstan and in Udmurtia, Bashkortostan and Chelyabinsk Oblast. They are considered different to the larger group of Tatars that have converted to Christianity.
Kryashens are Orthodox Christians and some of them regard themselves as being different from other Tatars even though most Kryashen dialects differ only slightly from the Central dialect of the and do not differ from the accents of the Tatar Muslims in the same areas. Tatar language.
The 2010 census recorded 34,882 Kryashen in Russia.
Ethnographers and historians associate the formation of groups of Kryashens with the process of voluntary and violent Christianization in the 16-19 centuries. However, according to the theological researcher from St. Petersburg, Evgeny Barkar, the Kryashens are the descendants of pagan Kipchaks who did not convert to Islam."

one of the worst parts about Russia being the way it is is that I really want to visit it. I'd spend two years travelling around it if I could. There's a town in the far north east that I want to visit with a tourist attraction called the Graveyard of Ships. I want to see it.
I'd visit Andreev Bay (site of my favorite nuclear incident :P) if I could. I want to go to the Chelyabinsk oblast. I'd take a train through Siberia. A million people live in the Sakha Republic and I want to see what that's like. Kamchatka seems like a fascinating place anthropologically.
Also I want to learn more about the original inhabitants of these areas and how the russian empire conquered them. But noooooo, gotta start a war in Ukraine.

Russian Federal Subject Flag Wars: Round 1
This tournament will focus on the flags of Russia’s 83 federal subjects, which includes 21 republics, 9 krais, 46 oblasts, 2 federal cities, 1 autonomous oblast, and 4 autonomous okrugs. It will not include the flags of the land stolen from Ukraine.
The tournament will be followed by the Regional Flag Wars, a huge competition featuring the flags of regions/administrative divisions, with only one flag per country. Over the past year, I’ve released numerous polls to decide which regional flag will be included for each country. Russia is the final country on the list, and it is receiving its own tournament due to having so many administrative divisions. I hope everyone enjoys this tournament and is looking forward to the Regional Flag Wars! The Russian Federal Subject Flag Wars will begin this week.

<I> Aristarkh is a memetic entity who was created by a Clockworker, Alyosenka, bearing his memories as he got transferred to the Herta Space Station and found by March 7th with the Trailblazer and Dan Heng. As they were the first one to find him, he followed them to where Himeko was staying.
<II> When got there, Aristarkh suddenly fell into a sleep state while standing and no one could wake him up from it. After he woke up from a 10-second sleep, Herta immidiately asked him if she could have him do a checkup. And Aristarkh agreed.
<III> According to Himeko and Herta, Aristarkh had no memories of himself and his past beside his name, which Herta later proved to be a fake one. It was strange since Aristarkh was a Memetic Entity. He also had a chronic illness making his heart stopped for brief seconds, leading to him entering a sleep-like state like a cycle. Aristarkh agreed to stay with the Trailblazer in case something happened to him.
<IV> During a mission, March 7th and him found the Shard of Memories, which was proved to be belonged to Aristarkh. As they watched through it, there was nothing.. but a man and clocks.
†•°•══════ஓ๑✬๑ஓ══════•°•†
If I were to describe Aristarkh, he would be.. an audience.
Aristarkh was an indifferent, yet timid person who always stay with the Trailblazer. Although he didn't afraid to talk his mind out, but Aristarkh preferred not to do that to avoid conflict. There was always a stable atmosphere around him, one that made people at ease no matter how dangerous the situation was.
Aristarkh liked sleep. When sleeping, he got to see various things around him that no one couldn't sense and those made him comfortable. And so he slept through many times, despite how harmful those sleep could cause him.
He liked to watch through the crowds of humanity just for fun, and you might be able to catch Aristarkh staring at the overbrearing people and smilling briefly. For Aristarkh, life was just a play that was about to end soon.
And he would like to watch through it. All.

Weekly expenditures on the war in Ukraine exceeded the annual budgets of 80 per cent of Russian regions
At the end of September, the government published a draft budget for 2025 with record military spending of 13.2 trillion rubles, or 38 billion rubles per day. At the same time, officials plan to reduce spending on social policy and education. This year's budget spending on the army and security forces totals 11.1 trillion rubles, or about 210 billion rubles a week, which exceeds the annual budgets of 80 per cent of Russian regions, The Moscow Times calculated.
Only 18 Russian regions out of 83 have budgets that exceed the weekly costs of the war in Ukraine. Among them are Moscow (4.7 trillion rubles), St. Petersburg (1.2 trillion) and the corresponding regions, as well as industrial regions - the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug (380.6 billion), Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (389.6 billion), Kemerovo (280.1 billion), Chelyabinsk (331.3 billion) and others (marked in green on the map).
In 64 regions marked in red on the map, the prepared budgets are lower than Russia's spending on the war in seven days. In almost a quarter of the regions, budgets are less than a third of a week's war spending, among them national republics - Kabardino-Balkaria, Tyva, Mari El, North Ossetia, Kalmykia, Karachay-Cherkessia, Mordovia, Khakassia, Altai and depressed regions - Tambov, Kostroma, Orel, Novgorod, Tambov and Pskov.
Four regions spend less in a year than Russia spends on the war in Ukraine in one day (30 billion rubles): Jewish Autonomous Oblast, Ingushetia, Kalmykia, and Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

Word Spreads
30 November 1956
Word of the situation in Mayak has begun spreading. Residents of the City of Mayak have been talking, and now it has become an open secret within the USSR that there was a nuclear incident at Mayak, in Chelyabinsk Oblast. No one (at least not a member of the public) knows how many people have been irradiated. Additionally, there have been rumours among Red Army Soldiers about how radiation can “infect” people. The source of this seems to be from a Joint Directive between Mikoyan and Zhukov, which states, “The Red Guards shall guard the regions nearby and not allow the infected to leave the region.” Everyone is scared now. Scared of being infected by Radiation. And elsewhere, even as far as Vladivostok, people are talking about the Soviet bureaucracy’s incompetence at allowing the Mayak disaster to happen.

MEGALITH LEVITATION Stoke Flames of Doom on New LP ‘Obscure Fire’
~Doomed & Stoned Debuts~
By Billy Goate
Artwork by godlikeikons
When we last checked in with the hooded cadre from the Ural Mountains of Chelyabinsk Oblast, MEGALITH LEVITATION had just revealed their collection of Void Psalms (one of Doomed & Stoned's Heavy Best of 2021, reviewed here). Now two years hence, the mysterious cult speak once again.
Their third full-length is called 'Obscure Fire' (2023). My closest stream of consciousness is an archaic reference to "strange fire" in the Old Testament. "And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not." Whether these songs lay claim to the profane offering of Leviticus 10:1 we may never know, but what is certain is their dark, powerful, hypnotic atmosphere.
The album begins and ends in flames. Strange dissonant guitar strains emerge from opening track "Obscure Fire." It's a bit jarring at first, but we're quickly captured under its spell. Drums and bass join in a dirge, and cultic voices bellow while the solemn ritual proceeds, complete with the swaying hands of acolytes and damning riffage.
With spiral flames I will Create new world of illusions And ancient mysteries Will rise from diamond tombs
This bleeds into the anodyne strumming "Of Silence." The song's central riff surfaces four minutes in and worshipful voices consort. The heartbeat quickens at the seven-minute mark and things start to feel deadly amidst unsettling tremeloes and pulsating rhythm. By the end of the song, we're lost in the throes of sweet delirium.
"Descending" bathes us in a swirl of ancient fuzz, as we enter the passageway connecting Side A to Side B. The theme is laid out in painstaking fashion, while priests cantillate in darkness around a cauldron of spite. It's as if we're gradually being slowly lowered into a great well as voices echo above and beneath the pit.
As we enter "In The Depths" we enter a clandestine chapel far, far underground, lit with candles and an odd glowing ember in the center, a place of arcane magick. A Cathedralesque tempo dances us closer and closer to the flames. Around four-minutes, the band shifts into slow headbanging mode with an undeniable riff and mesmerizing chanting.
The final number carries on in purposeful stride, whilst guitars wail in a way most fitting for "Eternal Doom." Phlegmatic voices intone and we are once again in a trance. Seven-and-a-half minutes in, the mood suddenly changes with new cries of pain and ecstasy revealing a mystical second theme. We encounter the trio in plainchant one more time, taking us to finish with narcotic haze.
Obscure Fire by Megalith Levitation releases March 31st, with an impressive CD package put together by the Aesthetic Death label (pre-order here) and artwork by godlikeikons, who did the covers for Doomed & Stoned in Russia I & II. Stick these songs on a playlist with Ufomammut, Bomg, Dirge, Ethereal Riffian, and Saturnalia Temple.
Give ear...
