When I was telling my brother about my crisis re: do fungrils have bones he was like 'you should ask Aabria, she should probably know.' And like yes, but then I was like, 'oof maybe I should finish watching the menagerie content and see if they already answered that question for Sweetpea.'

And that's why I remembered to subscribe to Beacon.tv. (and then forgot to watch because I'm so stressed with my move that I had to watch British people charmingly do and solve murders)

Prince Amethar Rocks is the Crown Prince of the House of Rocks, set to inherit the throne on his fast-approaching 18th birthday. 

His parents, the previous King and Queen, died during the Ravening War and left him and his four young sisters under the care of his twin aunts. 

Amethar is rebellious, raucous, and an all-round rascal  — and desperately does not want to have to become King and gain all the responsibility that comes with that position. 

He finds castle life boring and frequently sneaks out to get into trouble, often dragging the only other two boys his age around, Theobald and Lapin, with him.

He admires his aunts a lot, especially Jet, and enjoys hearing about their past military exploits. He wishes they had more time for him around the castle.

Theobald Gumbar is the prince’s ward and self-appointed personal guard, as well as the Queen Regent’s squire.

He takes his job of keeping the prince safe very seriously, to the point of standing guard outside his room all night. 

He tries to keep the prince out of trouble, but really only ends up accompanying him on all his shenanigans and getting into trouble himself.

He is absolutely, and this is very important, not at all jealous that Amethar brings Lapin along on their adventures too. 

Theo desperately wants to become a sworn knight of the Order. He very much looks up to the Queen Regent, and is supremely grateful she took him on as her squire (although, really, traditionally, queens don’t have squires, but Her Majesty has never been the most traditional queen), despite being slightly intimidated by her aggressive approach to everything.

Lapin Cadbury is an oblate for the Bulbian Church and a priest-in-training at Castle Candy.

He was dedicated by his parents to become a Bulbian priest at age seven, and has lived and studied at Castle Candy’s cathedral ever since.

Princess Citrina is a good few years younger than him, but they are well-acquainted due to both frequenting the same place.

He really doesn’t have the time to be dragged into Prince Amethar’s shenanigans, but somehow always ends up in mishaps with him and his ward anyways. He thinks Theobald is doing a terrible job at keeping him out of trouble.

Secretly finds his studies extremely boring, and is much more interested in whatever the Archmage is doing than he is in the Church.

Archmage Ruby Rocks is the Queen Regent’s right hand and trusted advisor.

She just wanted to be the Royal Fool when she was younger, but was pushed to take the responsibility of a more important position after the deaths of her older brother the King and her sister-in-law the Queen.

She is well-versed in magic, and is currently mentoring the young Princess Lazuli. Attempts to teach the prince have, as of yet, not been successful.

Ran away to the circus when she was young and still retains a lot of her skills from then. Her relationship with her sister after then has been strained, but they’re on good terms.

Tries to help and support Jet as much as she can, taking on a lot of her royal duties for her and working to quash the criticism of her sister within the court.

Queen Regent Jet Rocks is the Sovereign Ruler of Candia and the Sugarlands, as well as Lord Commander of the Tart-Guard.

She used to be general before the deaths of her older brother the King and her sister-in-law the Queen. Never wanted to be Queen herself, and is very much looking forward to passing the crown on to Amethar when he comes of age.

Was supposed to name a new Lord Commander after becoming Queen Regent, but refused and held onto the title. Doesn’t have the time to carry out both her royal and military responsibilities, and often skips out on a lot of her duties as Queen Regent to go hang out with the Tart-Guard and go on hunting parties.

As such, she faces a lot of controversy within her court, many believing that she is unfit to be Queen Regent and should at least be married so that there is a second ruler to take care of the responsibilities she refuses to take care of.

She took on Theo on as her squire as a dare from Ruby, and doesn’t really know what to do with him now. He’s frustratingly persistent.

Liam Wilhelmina is the Royal Stable-master, and also technically the prince’s cousin.

He works in Castle Candy’s royal stable, looking after the Tart-Guard’s and the royal family’s steeds. Peppermint Preston is a full-grown hog and big enough to ride.

He is a good, long-time friend to the Queen Regent and the Archmage, having grown up in the castle together when they were younger. He often serves as an unofficial advisor to them.

Since the beginning of the Jet’s rule, he has faced pressure from his brothers in the House of Jawbreaker to take advantage of her already poor reputation and incite treason in the court. They believe that the King’s brother, Liam’s father Duke Jawbreaker, should have taken over as sovereign ruler instead.

He often leaves the stables ‘accidentally’ unlocked so that the Prince and his friends can sneak in and steal horses.
