Book of shadows/grimoire stuff:
- first; grimoires and BOS’s are technically different things. However, if your book is more similar to a book of shadows, but you wanna call it a grimoire (or vice versa) fucking do it. Who is gonna stop you?
- this is YOUR book. Don’t just throw in a bunch of stuff about crystals if you don’t ever want to use them, or don’t believe in their energies - because what is the point? Don’t spend time on your natal chart if you don’t believe in astrology. Everything in this book is for YOU. Nobody else.
- Also remember that it doesn’t have to be a physical book! I literally had mine as a folder in my notes on my phone for AGES before I started to properly format it, and even now, it lives on my phone. Not as an actual book. This was also fun cuz I got to design my own cover :D
- again, this is your book. It doesn’t need to be perfect, and you’re allowed to make mistakes in it too. Write something down and you decide you don’t need it? Rip it out. Think you’ve worded something really badly and wanna change it? Eh, you can cross it out - most people won’t see it.
Now onto some ideas:
- moon phases; what they represent, and the lunar calendar for the current year (make the lunar calander page removable if possible, so that you can swap it for the next lunar calendar at the end of the year.
- the wheel of the year, if you celebrate the Sabbats. I always forget the dates of most of them. You could also put in different ideas for how to celebrate them which you can add to every once in a while, if you’re like me and struggle to think of ideas.
- methods for charging and cleansing: Often I have trouble finding easy methods of cleansing and charging my crystals, because I don’t really have many tools as of right now. (I will probably make a post about simple methods I HAVE found in the future)
- when you became a witch. This isn’t exactly something you’re gonna need to look up in your grimoire because you’ve forgotten about it. But I put this in my grimoire becuase sometimes I doubt my authenticness as a witch. A lot of people see witchcraft as something only girls can do. I’m not a girl. Loads of witches, especially ones you see online, have all these tools that I just don’t have. I don’t even have a proper altar. I’m 13 and I’m in the broom closet. Sometimes, you’re gonna need that little reassurance that you are a real witch and you’ve come so far from when you first started.
- a page about things you still wanna research; no matter how long you’ve been a witch, odds are there’s gonna be stuff about witchcraft you don’t know yet, don’t understand or just wanna look deeper into. I’d make this another removable page, too. Maybe do it as a checklist, and once you’ve looked into it, you can check it. After everything has been checked off, remove the page and add another one with even MORE stuff you wanna look into.
These are just things I could remember off the top of my head - feel free to add more in the reblogs!
