AU where Steve and Eddie date but Eddie breaks up with Steve so he can make it big, and then just…never makes it.
He plays in a wedding band now.
Typically Gareth books their gigs but that’s going to stop as soon as Eddie sees the welcome sign welcoming them to the wedding of Steve Harrington and, “Are you fucking kidding me?”
“Think of the paycheck, man.”
This happens and that happens, and suddenly Eddie’s back is against the wall of an empty hallway, Steve’s mouth on his neck and - “This is wrong. So wrong.”
“Hm?”
“You just got married.”
Steve pulls back to give him a look like he’s the biggest idiot to walk this planet and asks, “So?”
“Since when does Steve Harrington cheat?”
“Did you even look at the bride? Like at all.”
“She had a veil.”
“She took it off,” Steve smiles like he’s not cheating on his wife. He gives Eddie a peak on the lips, “It’s Robin.”
“Rob- it’s Buckley?” Eddie asks incredulous. “The lesbian.”
“Yeah, man,” Steve says, pulling Eddie’s tie off. “I got to be married or thirty to get my inheritance. We made a deal.”

“Venom definitely isn’t permanently dead don’t be sad”
I’m not upset Venom died and I’m not worried it’s permanent, I’m mad that their relationship and character development somehow regressed. I’m upset that it looked like Eddie didn’t give a shit that his “best friend in the whole world” just died for his sake in front of him. And instead of giving us any sort of emotional reaction from Eddie we got what looks like a TikTok edit made by a fourteen year old on CapCut. Eddie should have at least, like, cried or something. Though realistically that man should have been sobbing on the ground screaming “please don’t leave me! I need you!” In the first movie when Venom is sacrificing himself Eddie shouts “Venom no!!!” And they had been together for, like, three days. You really telling me that the death of your year long companion doesn’t make you shed a single tear???
Also! All of this is emphasized by the fact that Eddie spent the entire movie bitching and moaning about how much stuff sucked that when Venom died it kind of came across as Eddie being relieved of Venom as a burden on his life. It kind of seemed like Eddie was happy about this outcome and it left a bad taste in my mouth.

Steve has done interviews before. Like, a lot of interviews. YouTube, podcasts, print, TV stuff. Not as a brag, or anything, just. He's been an influencer for a long time, for better or worse, and it's part of the deal.
Usually, he's comfortable in front of the camera. Usually, he's poised and well-spoken. But today, this time, sweat pools under his arms and beads along his hairline, the lights beating down on him in a harsh glare.
"Steve Harrington," Murray Bauman crosses his legs, smiles big for the cameras. "It's been a while."
He smiles too, tries to seem like he's not about to have a panic attack. "I've been a little busy."
Murray laughs and it's then that Steve understands how screwed he really is. Murray's show, it's all glitz and glamour on the surface; mixed drinks and hijinks until the celebrity guests lose their inhibitions, admitting things they probably wanted to keep secret.
It's just that, before, Steve didn't have any salacious rumors to worry about, and now--
"You've had a rough year, Steve, yeah?"
"Not my best, for sure." He leans back, tries to seem calm, unbothered.
"I was sorry to hear about your divorce. I think that announcement really took a lot of people by surprise."
His hands clench, but he manages not to shift or bounce his leg. "Thanks for, uh. Yeah. We were also sorry it didn't work out."
Murray nods, face full of sympathy. "You and Nancy, you'd been together since high school? That's almost--what? 15 years?"
"It's--" he clears his throat. "About that long." Steve takes a sip of the drink next to him, an apple martini that's both too sweet and too strong.
"Am I right to assume that you didn't see it coming?"
And isn't that a question? Sure, now in hindsight, he can see the fractures that lead to the end, but six months ago did he--it's all so--what if all along--
"All marriages have rough patches," is what he says. "We just couldn't come out of ours as a couple."
"Do you know what I've found really remarkable about this phase of your life? The content and tone of your videos in the midst of the maelstrom of rumors and gossip didn't change at all. 'Your kids' as you call them, are still as bright and vibrant as ever. You're laughing, dancing, cooking, having a great time."
"I needed that--that normalcy you know? And the kids, they're such an important part of my life, having them around helped."
"Including Nancy's brother, Mike?"
Steve laughs and it's not fake. "Totally including Mike. My relationship with Nancy has nothing to do with my relationship with him."
"He's kind of an antagonist--would you say?--in your videos, though."
"We have conflict sometimes, but it's never serious. We know how to play it up for laughs."
"So, nothing's changed between you?"
"Not at all."
"The cheating rumors." Murray's smile is soft, but all the air still leaves the room.
"What about them?" It's more combative than he means, but--
"Did Nancy cheat on you with Jonathan Byers?"
He swallows and it hurts. She did cheat, is the thing. It's not public information, still only speculation, but--
"You can't believe everything you read, Murray."
"So, she didn't cheat?" There's a glow to Murray's eyes that tells Steve he already knows the answer.
"Like, I said before, marriages are hard. We spent a lot of time apart because of our jobs. It took a toll."
"And she was traveling with Jonathan, yes? He's been her photographer for the past decade, from what I understand."
"They were co-workers, but we're all close. And those rumors didn't help our relationship, for sure. It's--not easy to hear that a bunch of people think your wife and close friend may be having an affair, that people 'ship' them. Even when it's not true, it creates--"
"Tension? Distrust?"
"Both, probably." He takes another drink as he nods. "After a while you do start to wonder if there's truth to it, and you're too ignorant or too--too trusting to see it."
"And it eroded the relationship."
"It certainly didn't help." He takes another drink.
"And how about your relationship with Jonathan's brother, Will. Has that been impacted?"
"Of course not. Never. Whatever happens between Nancy, Jonathan, and I, it has nothing to do with the kids. They know that.
"You talked about it."
"Yes. Extensively."
"I know there's often speculation on the relationship you have with them; if you're really close or it's all for the cameras."
"Murray." He leans forward. "We've talked about this before. I met Dustin through Mike, and the whole group followed. I've known them all since they were 8 years old. They're--I mean, not to be cliche, but they're my family." He sips the last bit of martini.
"And where does Eddie Munson fit into that family?"
The question shouldn't be a surprise, but he almost does a spit take, has to fight to keep it together.
"Eddie?"
"Yes." Murray's smile is chilling. "Your close friend Eddie Munson. Musician. Plays Dungeons and Dragons on YouTube. You made out with him in a music video. Ringing any bells?"
"I'm familiar with Eddie," his grin is rigid. "I don't know what that has to do with my marriage ending."
"Well, the rumors weren't all about Nancy, were they?"
"Eddie and I have--we became mutuals online years and years ago. I used one of his songs in a video and the kids are obsessed with his dnd stuff, so. We've become close."
"Friends?"
"Isn't that implied?"
"After that music video, I don't think so."
Steve rolls his eyes, lets the irritation show for the first time. "He asked me to be in his video. There's nothing scandalous about it."
"What's your relationship with Eddie right now?"
"Like I said, friends."
"Do you want it to be more than that?"
"Eddie's really important to me."
"Is that all?"
"Not really sure what you want me to say here, Murray."
"You were married to a woman for years, but now there are questions about your sexuality."
He grits his teeth. "My sexuality isn't anyone's business aside my own. People can say shit on Twitter all they want, that doesn't mean they know me. But--the end of my marriage--it definitely gave me the space for self-discovery, I guess? In a way I hadn't had before."
"And is Eddie a part of that self-discovery?"
"Yeah, as one of my closest friends, he is."
"Do you have feelings for him?"
"That's--that's not--I'm going through a divorce. My focus isn't on starting another relationship right now."
"You, famously, tattooed your initials on the inside of his thigh during an Instagram live. That's pretty intimate."
"We were just having a little fun."
"Huh. That seems like more than 'a little fun' to me. So, how's Eddie doing with the increased attention?"
It takes Steve a second to track the change of subject, mind still stuck on the tattoo, on how the ink had looked on Eddie's pale skin.
"It's hard." Steve eventually answers. "Of course he enjoys bringing his music and dnd to a wider audience, but the focus on his personal life is--it's a lot."
"Well, he should have thought about before letting you tattoo him for your 850,000 followers. Does he want a relationship with you?"
His throat is dry, burning, he wishes he had more martini. He wishes he'd never taken a sip. "You'd have to ask him. I'm just taking it day by day, you know? That's what I need right now."
"We're getting to the end of our time, but you know I have to ask. Your best friend, Robin Buckley, she very famously unfollowed both Nancy and Jonathan on all social media when news broke about your divorce. Can you tell us why she unfollowed them?"
"I have no control over Robin's accounts. I didn't even know she followed Jonathan ever, and she and Nancy have a relationship outside of me, you know? I can't say what happened between them."
"She's been in your videos with Eddie. She like him?"
"Very much. It's kind of annoying actually. They keep ganging up on me."
"Much to everyone's delight, I'm sure. So, what can we expect from the newly single Steve Harrington?"
"There are a couple things in the works, but only time will tell."
---
He walks through his front door an hour later, and Eddie's sitting on the couch, playing a soft melody on an acoustic guitar. He stops when he sees Steve, setting the guitar aside, and standing.
"How'd it go, baby?" He asks. His soft smile is so beautiful, Steve gets a lump in his throat.
"As expected." He crosses the space between them, lets Eddie pull him close.
"He ask about us?" Eddie's breath tickles his ear.
"Of course."
"And you--"
"I want--it should be just for us. We should be able to announce when we're ready. Not when Murray-fucking-Bauman asks."
Eddie kisses him, then, sweet and slow, making him lose his breath.
"Whenever you're ready, I'll be right by your side."
"You sure? All my mess--"
"Is mine too. Afraid you're stuck with me for the long haul, Steve Harrington."

Eddie woke up with a pounding headache and an intense sense of dread. He groaned as he sat up, shutting his eyes to block out the searing light from the window.
He took a deep breath before opening them again, letting out a sigh of relief when he realized he was in his own room, safe in their apartment. But that wasn't stopping his pounding headache.
God, what the fuck happened last night? He remembered going to Gareth’s party, getting cross-faded. Then, just pure white-boy wasted as the night went on and someone brought out tequila shots. He remembered whining about missing Steve to some guy-
Oh god. The guy. It came screaming back to him, blurry and unfocused but there.
I can be your boyfriend for the night.
How the fuck had the line worked on him? Eddie didn't know, but he knew that it had. He remembered kissing him, whimpering into his mouth while moaning Steve’s name. How good it felt.
What the fuck had he done?
Pure panic was starting to set in. He cheated on Steve. He actually cheated on Steve. And for what? Because he hadn't seen him for a few weeks? It only took one vacation with Robin for him to destroy the trust they built? Was he that pathetic? That selfish? That idiotic?
He didn't even remember how far they'd gone. He didn't even know how he got home. Or if the guy came with him. The idea of him fucking someone else in their bed made him feel physically ill. Ill enough to have Eddie jumping out of bed, frantic as he looked around for any clues. But there was nothing. Just the evidence of the life he'd built with his boyfriend. The one that he had single handedly ruined.
Maybe he could just not tell him. Keep it secret for the rest of his fucking life. Track down anyone who did know and blackmail them to be quiet. That seemed more sane then coming clean. Sane enough to have Eddie stumbling out of his room in a hurry.
But before he could call Gareth to insanely demand the names of anyone who could have seen him, he smelled it. The scent of coffee brewing, plus the sound of a happy hum.
Steve was home. A whole day early.
Holy shit, Eddie was going to be sick. He was actually going to puke. The feeling bad enough to make his legs weak, so bad he crashed right into the wall.
Loud enough to have Steve calling after him, "Babe, is that you?"
Eddie opened his mouth to answer, but nothing came out.
Not when Steve was rounding the corner, smiling at him like that. All soft and loving, "There you are. Rough night?"
Was that the last time he would look at him like that?
"Eddie?" Steve asked, frowning at his lack of answer, "Are you okay?"
Eddie wanted to die. He actually wanted to die. Why had he done this? But he couldn't lie to him. Not with the sweet, trusting way Steve was looking at him. He just couldn't.
"I need to tell you something," Eddie finally managed to choke out, his heart beating so fast he was scared Steve could hear it. Maybe he'd have a heart attack it he was lucky. Avoid this whole shit show through almost dying.
But he wasn't that lucky.
Steve cocked his head at him, "What's wrong?"
"I'm so sorry, Stevie," Eddie said, letting his first thought come out, "I'm so fucking sorry."
"What are you talking about?"
"I kissed someone," Eddie blurted out, his hands shaking as he started to word vomit, "Last night. A-At the party I told you about."
Steve just stared at him.
"I-I was drunk!" Eddie went on, his voice coming out wet, "It didnt mean anything, I don't even know why I did it."
Steve still wasn't saying anything. He was just looking at him, his expression unreadable. It just made Eddie feel more desperate.
"Please say something," Eddie begged, "I know this is bad. I do. But I dont even know who he is. I-I won't do it again!"
Steve still had his head cocked as he looked at him, something in his eyes that Eddie didn't understand, "Is that all?"
Fuck no that wasn't all. Not when Steve was looking at him like that. Eddie didn't even think about it as he sunk to his knees, fully fucking ready to beg at Steve’s feet.
"I love you," Eddie tried, the tears he was holding back finally starting to fall, "I fucked up. I know I fucked up but please don't leave me. Please. I can make up for this. I can. Please."
It was hard to see him through the tears in his eyes, hard to comprehend anything through how fucking bad Eddie felt, the sheer amount of self-loathing nearly drowning him completely. His vision was cloudy enough to almost make it look like Steve was... smiling at him?
Steve reached down, grabbing Eddie underneath the armpits to help lift him back onto his feet. Strong in a way that still made Eddie's heart skip a beat whenever he saw it in action. He led a still sniffling Eddie to the couch, grabbing for his hand when they sat down.
"Baby, how do you think you got home last night?" Steve asked.
Eddie frowned, "I-I don't know. I don't remember."
"Do you remember what the guy looked like?"
Eddie swallowed, so nervous he was still kind of afraid he was going to puke. And he highly doubted that puking on Steve would help his case for him to stay, "I don't remember fully."
"What do you remember?"
Eddie sighed, looking down into his lap, "I remember missing you. And then a point where I got drunk enough to say it to anyone who would listen. Then this guy showed up and he said-"
"I can be your boyfriend for the night?"
Eddie snapped his head up, staring at Steve with his mouth open. How the fuck did he know that?
"And then did he do this?" Steve asked as he brought his hand up, cupping Eddie's cheek. Looking at him like he was the most precious thing in the world before placing his thumb on Eddie's bottom lip, teasing it with a smile, "Before saying you were beautiful?"
"I-yes? But how-"
"Honey," Steve sighed, a touch exasperated but mostly fond, "I got back last night. Then went to go find you when I remembered about the party."
Oh god, did that mean Steve saw the whole thing? Was this the calm before he kicked Eddie out? Was he about to be dumped-
"I can see your brain working babe, but it's working in the wrong direction."
"Huh?" Eddie asked, completely lost on why Steve was smiling at him instead of cursing his name.
"Eddie, it was me," Steve said calmly, though his face said he was holding back a laugh, "You made out with me. Before I took us home and you failed at trying to give me road head on the way home. Twice."
"I-what?" Eddie asked, shellshocked.
"You cheated on me with me, babe," Steve laughed, his calm face finally breaking, "Then when we got home, you cried about missing me to me. You're adorable when you're wasted. Stupid, but adorable."
"Oh my fucking God," Eddie breathed out, the reality of the situation hitting him. He groaned, hiding his face in his hands while Steve cackled next to him. He had never felt like a bigger fucking moron, Jesus Christ, "I am never drinking tequila again."
"Good idea," Steve chuckled as he pried Eddie's hands away from his face. He brought one to his mouth, kissing his fingers as he grinned, "But I love the honesty, sweetheart. 10/10. And the begging? Kind of hot."
"I was terrified!" Eddie moaned, staring up at the ceiling as a blush climbed up his neck, "You scared the shit out of me."
"You scared yourself!" Steve laughed, grabbing for Eddie's chin to force his head back down to look at him. He leaned in, pressing a kiss to his forehead, "My favorite little drama queen."
"You're a bastard," Eddie grumbled, like he wasn't smiling when Steve leaned in to kiss him on the lips, "Evil."
"But wasn't I a good boyfriend for the night?" Steve asked, laughing even harder when Eddie pinched his side. Eddie leaned in to kiss him again, effectively shutting him up as the last of his anxiety drained away.
But one thing was for sure. Tequila would be his worst enemy until the day he died.

“Hey, Cutie. What's your name?”
Buck stopped digging to look up at the man, using the back of his hand to wipe the sweat from his forehead. “Buck,” he replied simply, sucking in a deep breath.
“Buck?” he questioned. “Just Buck?”
Buck sighed. “Evan Buckley. Most people call me Buck.”
The man smiled. “Evan's nice. I like Evan. I'm gonna call you Evan.”
“My boyfriend's really the only one who does that.”
The man stepped closer, invading Buck's personal space. “You're already taken?”
“I- I am,” Buck replied, tripping over his words. Now that he was closer, this man did have some beautiful blue eyes. They nearly stared right into his soul.
“Hm.” The man shook his head. “That's a shame,” he looked Buck up and down. “You're really... really hot.”
“Pr- Probably from the wildfire th- that's nearby.”
The man laughed. Damn, even his laugh did something to Buck. “Maybe,” he shrugged. “But I think you'd look good no matter what.”
“I really, um, I need to get back to digging, so the fire doesn't spread.”
“Looks like you could use a break to me.” The man pulled a bottle of water from his pocket, and the sight of it nearly made Buck's dry mouth start to water. “Ice cold, just for you.”
And well, it would almost be rude not to take the water. So he did.
He twisted the cap off and drank nearly half the bottle down. He couldn't help but notice the man watched every gulp, staring at his throat like he wanted to lick the sweat right off.
“Thank you,” Buck said once he finished. He went to hand the bottle back, but the man shook his head.
“That's yours,” he said. “Can't have a man as handsome as you passing out from dehydration. Someone may have to give you mouth to mouth.”
Buck swallowed hard. “Th- Then why'd you give me the water?”
Buck watched the man's blue eyes darken, his breathing picking up. He reached out, tugging on the collar of Buck's wildland gear to fix it. “You've gotta be careful, Evan. I don't usually go for taken men, but I might have to change my mind.” His hand slowly ran down Buck's chest as he pulled away from him.
Buck's breath hitched. He couldn't look away from this man. Couldn't help all the feelings bubbling up deep in his gut. “I... I don't even know your name.”
“Might be better that way,” the man replied, taking another step closer. His eyes moved down to Buck's lips. “I'll be able to remember you forever, and you can go back to your boyfriend and forget I ever existed.”
“I- I don't know if I could do that.”
“What? Go back to your boyfriend? Or forget me? Cause-”
“Dear God,” Eddie interrupted, exasperated. “You know other people can hear you, right? Get a room, or better yet, get a truck. I'll cover for you if it'll get you two to stop... whatever the hell this is.”
Buck sighed, resting a hand on his hip as he turned to Eddie. “We were just getting to the good part.”
“You've done this before?!” he exclaimed.
“Two days ago,” Hen informed him as she passed by. She gave a wave to the man. “Hey, Tommy.”
“Hi, Hen. Eddie,” he greeted with a nod and a smile.
Eddie groaned. “You two are pathetic.”
“Oh, are they doing that weird roleplay thing again?” Chimney asked as he walked up beside Eddie.
“You've heard it too?”
“I think half the firefighters in the county have heard it by now.”
“Three weeks!” Buck reminded them, holding up three fingers for emphasis. “We've been here for three weeks without more than a few seconds alone. Let me have this.”
Eddie raised his hands in surrender. “I'm gonna go get me a water since, apparently, it doesn't matter if I pass out from dehydration.”
Tommy rolled his eyes. “I'll bring you a water next time.”
“What about me?” Chimney asked. “Because, if I remember right, you'll have to give me mouth to mouth if I fall to the ground.”
“I will bring everyone water next time.” Tommy spoke loudly, so everyone around could hear.
“That's better,” Chimney said. He patted Eddie on the shoulder. “Come on, let's give the lovebirds a minute.”
Tommy turned back to Buck. “As much as I'd love to finish the scene,” he said once the others had walked away, “I do have to go. I told my group I'd only be five minutes.”
Buck couldn't help his pout, but he also knew he had to get back to work too. “When we get home, if we ever get to go home, we're not putting on clothes for three days.”
Tommy smiled, nose scrunching up. “Deal,” he agreed. He leaned in and gave Buck a quick peck on the lips. “I gotta go. Love you, Cutie,” he said with a wink.
Before he could walk off, Buck grabbed his turnouts and pulled Tommy back for one more kiss before letting him go. “Love you too. Be safe.”

Steve had to grow up watching his dad cheat, then wonder why his mom stayed and took him back every time.
Only to then think that Nancy cheated on him with Jonathan, and he immediately took her back.
He must've hated himself for it.

Eddie Munson hated a lot of things. He hated the jocks who thought they ruled Hawkins High. He hated the posers at the record store who claimed to love metal but had never even listened to Iron Maiden. He hated his gym teacher that asshole who got off on making him miserable. And he especially hated the cheesy, commercialized holidays that seemed to bring out the worst in people.
Valentine's Day.
Eddie Munson hated a lot of things, but Valentine's Day was definitely at the top of his list. And that day was finally here.
The happiness radiating off everyone in school was suffocating, and even Steve had fallen victim to the Valentine's Day madness. He was beaming with pride, flowers in hand, as he chatted with Nancy by her locker. Eddie's stomach twisted into a knot as he watched Steve's goofy, lovestruck grin. He couldn't stand the way Steve's eyes crinkled at the corners when he smiled at Nancy. It was a look Eddie had never seen Steve give him, and it made his chest ache with a dull, unfamiliar pang.
He knew his crush was doomed from the start, a futile infatuation that would never be reciprocated. But knowing it didn’t make it any easier to bear. Especially not today, when he was forced to witness Steve’s affectionate gestures towards Nancy up close. His locker, conveniently located next to Nancy’s, offered a front row seat to the torture. Eddie couldn’t help but feel like he was stuck in a never ending nightmare, watching the person he secretly was in love with attention on someone else.
Eddie thought the morning couldn't get any worse, but first period proved him wrong. As he walked into class, he spotted a long stemmed rose on Nancy's desk, surrounded by a gaggle of girls cooing and aahing over it. "Is it from Steve?" one of them asked, eyes wide with excitement. Nancy's face flushed as she glanced at a note attached to the rose, her awkward smile and nod confirming their suspicions. Eddie's gut twisted with a mix of discomfort and envy as he slid into his seat, trying to ignore the syrupy sweetness that seemed to be suffocating him.
As the day wore on, Eddie witnessed a different scene unfold. Nancy and Steve were standing by their lockers, their voices hushed but their body language screaming tension. The rose from earlier lay wilted on the floor, trampled and forgotten. Nancy's face was red with anger, her eyes blazing as she spat out the words, "You're such an ass, Steve!" Steve looked taken aback, his eyes hurt and confused, as if he had no idea what he'd done wrong. Eddie watched, fascinated, as the couple's argument , wondering what had triggered the fight.
Nancy stormed away, leaving Steve standing by his locker, his face etched with hurt and confusion. He slumped down to the ground, holding his head in his hands, his elbows resting on his knees. Eddie couldn't help but approach him, curiosity getting the better of him. "What's wrong, man?" he asked, trying to sound nonchalant. Steve glared at him, his eyes welling up with tears. Eddie, taken aback, threw up his hands. "Fine, don't tell me," he said, turning to leave. But Steve's hand shot out, grasping Eddie's pants leg. "Wait," he said, his voice cracking. Eddie sat back down beside him, and Steve let out a shuddering sigh. "She's cheating on me," he sniffled. Eddie's eyes widened in shock. "Nancy?" he repeated, incredulous. Steve nodded, his face crumpling. "Yeah, Nancy."
Eddie's eyes widened in shock. "Are you sure?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Steve sighed, his shoulders slumping in defeat. He handed Eddie a note that had been attached to the flowers. Eddie's eyes scanned the page, his heart sinking as he read the words "I miss you... J". The initials seemed to leap off the page, a stark confirmation of Steve's suspicions. Eddie's gaze met Steve's, and he could see the pain and betrayal etched on his face.
"That's...that's pretty conclusive," Eddie said, trying to sound calm, but his voice came out rougher than he intended. Steve nodded, his jaw clenched, and Eddie could see the muscles in his face twitching with suppressed emotion. "I knew something was off," Steve muttered, his voice barely above a whisper. "She's been acting weird for weeks, but I had no idea..." He trailed off, his eyes welling up with tears again. Eddie felt a pang of sympathy for Steve and instinctively reached out, putting a hand on Steve's shoulder.
As the bell rang, Eddie turned to Steve and suggested they ditch class. Steve hesitated for a second, but nodded in agreement. They slipped into Eddie's car, where they shared a joint outside Waldenbooks.
"I'm actually banned from here," Eddie said with a chuckle.
Steve laughed, inhaling the smoke. "Why?" he asked, his eyes squinting with amusement.
Eddie grinned mischievously. "I got into an argument with the guy who worked here over The Lord of the Rings book."
Steve raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What about it?"
Eddie leaned in, a conspiratorial whisper escaping his lips. "He said it was just a kids' book, and I... disagreed."
Steve chuckled, the smoke from the joint curling out of his mouth. "You went all geek on him, huh?"
Eddie nodded, a proud smile spreading across his face. "Someone had to set him straight."
Steve passed him the joint, and Eddie took a long, satisfying drag. For a moment, they just sat there in comfortable silence, the only sound the soft hum of the radio.
Eddie couldn't believe it - King Steve, the star athlete, was sitting in his car, smoking a joint and smiling with him. It was surreal, and yet, it felt oddly natural.
The silence was broken when Steve spoke up, "I'm surprised you're not into Valentine's Day, Eddie, like isn’t everyone?”
Eddie scoffed, "It's a total sham. A holiday created by corporations to guilt trip people into buying overpriced flowers and chocolates. And let's be real, it's just a reminder of societal pressure to conform to romantic norms."
Steve chuckled and said, "Wow, Eddie, you're like a Valentine's Day Grinch. What's behind all that cynicism?"
Eddie rolled his eyes, "Hey, someone's got to keep things real around here. But if you must know, I just think it's all a bit... forced. Like, why do we need a special day to show people we care? Shouldn't we be doing that anyway?"
Eddie smiled, looking slightly surprised by Steve's agreement. "Yeah, I mean, it's just another day, right?"
“As "I Want to Know What Love Is" by Foreigner came on, Steve lit up, turning up the volume. He sang along, eyes closed, and Eddie joined in. As they sang, they looked at each other, their eyes locking. Eddie stared at Steve's lips, and Steve caught him looking. They exchanged a glance, and Steve smiled slyly. "You know what would be perfect?" he asked, his voice low as if he was telling a secret. "What?" Eddie replied, his heart racing.
They sit side by side on the planetarium's seats, gazing up at the starry night sky projected above. Steve let out a soft "whoa" as a swirling galaxy filled the dome.
Eddie turned to him, a knowing glint in his eye. "Right?"
Steve nodded, his eyes still fixed on the celestial display. "It's like... perspective, you know? We're just a tiny part of all this."
Eddie smiled, his voice barely above a whisper. "Exactly."
“How did you find out about this place?” Steve asked, his gaze still upward.
Eddie smiled, his eyes nostalgic. “As a kid I’d come here with my uncle.”
Steve turned to him, intrigued. “Your uncle?”
Eddie nodded. “Yeah, he was an astronomy buff. He’d bring me here whenever I was feeling lost or overwhelmed. He’d say, ‘Look, son, we’re just a small part of something much bigger.’”
Steve’s eyes softened, and he turned back to the starry sky. “That’s really cool. I’m sure he’d be happy to know you’re still coming here.”
The two sat in comfortable silence for a moment, taking in the celestial beauty above. Then eddie reached out tracing the stars with his fingers and Steve and gently brushed his hand against Eddie’s
Eddie's fingers froze, and a spark of electricity ran through him at the gentle touch. He turned to Steve, their eyes locking in the dim light of the planetarium. Time seemed to suspend as they gazed at each other, the only sounds the soft hum of the projector and the distant, music.
Without breaking eye contact, Steve intertwined their fingers, his hand warm and gentle around Eddie's. Eddie's heart skipped a beat as a jolt of connection ran through him, like the stars above had aligned just for this moment.
Eddie couldn't help but feel a shift in his perspective. As he sat there, hands intertwined with Steve's, surrounded by the celestial beauty of the planetarium, he was starting to believe in Valentine's Day.

Forever going to be thinking of the BuckEddie of it all istg. BuckEddie AS IF THEYRE ONE ENTITY.
BuckEddie cause they’re partners.
BuckEddie because Bobby is so used to his little family and their dynamic that his muscle memory takes over.
BuckEddie because THEY MADE WINDOW CLEANING A TWO PERSON JOB. (I will bow down for the decision to show Ravi cleaning that window all by himself)
BuckEddie cause they complete each other
BuckEddie because half of Bucks heart is walking around Texas 800 miles away
BuckEddie.

Before He Cheats

“Munson Home for the Recently Deceased, you stab ‘em we slab ‘em. How may I direct your call?”
There was silence on the other end of the line for a few seconds before a light chuckle crackled through the speaker.
“Is that really how you answer the phone?”
Eddie smiled to himself. “Got you to laugh didn’t it?”
“Suppose.”
“Plus, no one calls the landline anymore unless they’re trying to sell something. You trying to sell me something?”
“No. No, I uh… I’m looking for an Eddie Munson?”
“Only an Eddie Munson? Only one? What a terrible fate. Well you’re in luck, my good sir. This is he. What can I do you for?”
The voice on the end of the line gave a light laugh once again but went silent almost immediately after.
Eddie stared at the wall in his apartment, waiting for something to happen. In the quiet he could hear the guy letting out little nervous breaths before one big inhale.
“I um. I’m sorry to have to tell you like this, I’d prefer to do it face to face but I don’t know where you live and you probably wouldn’t even want me at your house afterwards and I did find you on social media but it’s not something I wanted to do in DM’s, you deserve better than that-”
“Okay, hold on, slow down.” Eddie tried to ignore the panic starting to kick around in his heart. “Is someone dead? Is someone injured?”
“No! No, Jesus, I’m sorry. I told Robin that I’d be terrible at this but I couldn’t just let it go on without saying anything-”
“You haven’t really said anything. You’re just rambling.”
“Right. Sorry. Again, blame Robin. I’m around her too much. But… okay. Do you know Rick Lipton?”
Eddie felt the panic leave him, replaced only by irritation as he sighed through his nose. “What did he do now?”
“He… um. I’m sorry to ask this but are you his partner? Like, romantic partner?”
Eddie scowled. “And if I am?”
There was movement against the line, almost as if the other guy was nodding.
“Shit.” He muttered before picking back up in volume again. “Listen, I didn’t know. He told me he was single and I only found out because Robin lives in the same building as you and she saw him with you and asked the neighbours and they said you’d been a thing for like two years and you have to believe me if I’d known I wouldn’t have touched him, I don’t fuck around with cheaters-”
“How long?”
Eddie had expected to feel betrayal or sadness, devastation or heartbreak and they were there.
They were just lost under a tidal wave of anger and indignation. He was even surprised at himself that he didn’t feel more caught off guard.
Rick had never cheated before (that Eddie was aware of) but he had always had a wandering eye and a few off-colour jokes about 'going to find someone more his speed’.
They’d never really felt all that funny.
Maybe it was because their relationship had felt dead for the last few months.
They barely talked, they just existed around each other. The sex had all but dried up as well and whenever they did have it, it was completely impersonal. Get in, get out, move back to separate parts of the apartment if either of them even bothered to stay over.
More often than not one of them would make a quick exit back to their home.
Eddie had been thinking a breakup was on the horizon for a while.
But that was no excuse to cheat.
At least have the fucking decency to end the relationship first before going out and chasing tail.
“Um, like four or five weeks." The guy on the phone muttered, clearly ashamed. "I’m so sorry Eddie, I swear to god if I knew I would never… I have- I have proof if you need it.”
“If it’s a sex tape I don’t think I want to see it.” Eddie was trying really hard to maintain his calm and not snap through the phone.
If what the guy was saying was true, then he was an innocent party in this.
Didn’t make it hurt any fucking less though.
Didn’t make him any less pissed.
“If- no it’s not a sex tape.” The voice sounded scandalised. “Fucking hell, do people actually do that?”
“Yes.”
There was a pause, as though the guy was waiting for Eddie to continue but Eddie just let it hang in the air. He wasn’t ashamed.
But he was definitely going to have to purge those files now.
“Okay well… It's just a photo. I posted it to my insta a week ago but he was really weird about it being up, which in hindsight makes a lot of sense, so I took it down.” He said, quiet and sad. “I can send it to you if you want.”
Eddie pursed his lips.
“Please hold.”
He unceremoniously dropped the phone with a clatter, leaving it dangling from the cord, bouncing against the wall and probably blowing the guy’s ear out.
Maybe in the morning Eddie would feel a little bad about that, but for now it just felt very satisfying.
He rifled around in his bedsheets for his phone before making his way back to the landline.
“Still there?”
“Yes. Ow, by the way.”
Eddie just shrugged, well aware the guy couldn’t see him but whatever. He wasn’t in the mood.
“Send it on.”
Only a moment later his phone pinged with a notification and Eddie opened the photo.
Well.
Shit.
There was Rick, in amongst a crowd at some nightclub, plastered to the side of some pretty boy who looked like he had a regular workout routine.
Ugh.
Eddie couldn’t handle gym bunnies, the amount they could bench or whatever was all they ever talked about. But this must be the guy on the other end of the phone.
@King.Steve.Of.House.Hair
Rick had King Steve’s earlobe in between his teeth and from the angle of the selfie Eddie could see his hands were wandering.
It looked like some kind of Halloween night, if the teeny tiny little sailor outfit was anything to go by.
God damn.
But even so, Eddie still wanted to be sure that what he was seeing was… well. What he was seeing.
“Steve, is it?”
“Oh, uh, yeah. Sorry, I didn’t realise I hadn’t given you my name yet.” Steve let out a nervous laugh, like he was expecting Eddie to jump through the phone and strangle him.
Eddie was fit to strangle someone but Steve wasn’t in his crosshairs.
“Don’t worry about it. Tell me, what does Rick have tattooed on his ass?”
“Uh…” Steve paused. “He doesn’t have a tattoo on his ass? Not that I’ve seen anyway. But I can tell you he does have his taint pierced. For some fucking reason.”
Eddie gave a quiet laugh at that, despite the monumentally fucked up situation and the final cracking piece of his heart breaking away. Rick had that piercing by the time Eddie had met him. He insisted he’d gotten it because it was sexy. Eddie was pretty sure he’d just lost a bet.
Eddie was no stranger to intimate piercings himself. He had his frenum done a while back.
That one he’d definitely done because it felt sexy.
He looked back down at his phone, idly flipping through Steve’s profile and all of his other photos.
He probably shouldn’t be thinking about how hot Steve was, how it was juxtaposed with a soft cuteness that almost felt like it didn’t belong to someone with such broad shoulders and defined arms.
He hated himself for thinking about Steve’s attractiveness.
It felt wrong.
Even though he was pretty much single now.
Even if Rick didn’t know it yet.
But fuck him.
He’d find out.
One way or the other.
And Eddie was nothing if not a drama queen.
But he wouldn’t do anything tonight.
No tonight he would just… hurt.
And smoke.
A lot.
“Eddie?” Steve’s voice came through to him. “You okay?”
Eddie swallowed, finding it a little more difficult than he expected it to be and realised he’d just been staring down at his phone in silence.
The screen had gone black.
“Yeah.” He answered, his voice thick. “I’m fine.”
Steve hummed. “Is there anything I can do to help?”
Eddie laughed. It was wet and sniffly and vulnerable and horrible. “What are you gonna do from over the phone far away… wherever you are?”
“I dunno. I could just… talk to you I guess? Help you plot Rick's murder?”
Eddie laughed again, a little brighter this time. "Yeah, that could be good. But if I'm plotting murder I want to be a little more comfortable." He unlocked his phone and hit the follow button on Steve’s account. “This conversation requires lounging, not standing by the landline.”
“Oh-”
“How do you feel about a video call?”
A notification popped up on his phone, letting him know Steve had followed him back.
“A video call is fine.”
“Great.” Eddie paused. He wasn’t even sure how to end this call with the guy his boyfriend of two years had been cheating on him with and who he’d just asked if he wanted to video call so Eddie could smoke his feelings away.
He just didn’t want to feel alone right now.
He could have called Chrissy or one of the boys to come hang out with him but that would require explaining everything over again and he really didn’t want to do that right now.
Before he could think much more on it Eddie said a quick “Okay bye,” and hung up.
Steve knew the story and Steve had been wronged too and maybe they could just be mad and sad together.
He unlocked his phone again as he walked back into his bedroom and hit the video call button, not even bothering to turn his light on, leaving himself and his room shrouded in darkness. He propped his phone up on his desk, angled towards the window where he sat on the sil and started to roll, using the streetlights streaming in the window to see.
Steve picked up only a moment later and Eddie got his first good look at the guy live in action and not through a photo online.
He was sitting at what looked like a kitchen table fully lit by the overhead lights, a pair of wire framed glasses perched on his nose and his hair messy and dishevelled, like he’d been stressfully running his hands through it, which he probably had been.
Eddie didn’t know how stressed he would be if he had to make a call to someone to tell them their long term partner had been cheating.
He was leaning forward, elbows on the table in a cosy yellow sweater with a slight worry between his eyebrows.
He looked so soft.
Nothing at all like the nautical sea queen look he’d been giving in those photos. He looked comfortable and gentle and a little worried.
“Eddie?”
“Mm-hm?” He hummed, bringing the joint to his mouth and lighting it up before pushing open the window a little more and exhaling out into the dark rainfall outside.
“You okay?”
He shrugged. “I will be.”
“I’m not asking about whether you will be, I‘m asking about now.”
Eddie looked over and watched Steve as Steve watched him through the screen.
“Alright, then no. I’m not okay.” He took another drag. “I’m fucking pissed. I’m sad, I’m upset, I’m hurt, I’m angry, I’m disappointed and I don’t know if all of that is directed more at him for doing this to me or me for not expecting it.”
“How were you supposed to expect it?” Steve shook his head in disbelief. “No one should have to expect to be cheated on.”
“Dunno.” Eddie shrugged, looking back out the window. “Relationship was dying anyway.”
“Okay, and? That doesn’t make cheating okay.”
“Suppose not.”
“I’m sorry, for what it’s worth. For my part in it.”
Eddie glanced back over, taking in the downward tilt of Steve’s mouth and his big sad eyes.
“S’not your fault. You were wronged too.”
“I guess, but…” Steve bit his lip and looked up from the screen, casting his eyes around his kitchen like something was going to pop out and answer whatever question was running through his head.
Eddie waited. The guy had been very gracious so far and he seemed to genuinely feel bad for all the mess he’d been wrapped up in.
“I…” Steve continued. “I know how this thing usually goes. You find out you’ve been cheated on and you still love your partner so you tend to focus all your anger towards the person they cheated with rather than the person who actually wronged you.” He looked down, fiddling with some kind of flash card on the table in front of him.
“Sounds like you’re speaking from experience.” Eddie stubbed his joint out, happy enough with his current buzz. He was sufficiently mellowed, he hadn’t cried yet though that would probably come once he was in bed, but his anger had simmered down to a level where he didn’t feel like putting his fist through a wall but still angry enough to plot.
“I am, I guess.”
Eddie nodded. “This happened to you before?”
That was probably rude. His filter malfunctioned at the best of times but when he smoked it was all but gone.
“Yeah.” Steve stared down at the cards in his hands. “My mom had to put up with my dad’s infidelity a lot. And my ex-girlfriend cheated on me a while back.” Steve paused before taking a deep breath. “Rick was actually my first attempt to get back into the dating world so…”
“So we can both be sad and angry together.”
“Yeah.” Steve smiled and Eddie stood up, plucking his phone from his desk and settling it on his bedside table, switching his lamp on and throwing himself face down on his bed, probably barely visible to Steve.
“We can be sad and angry together.”
Eddie glanced up. Now that he was closer to his phone, he could better see exactly what Steve was fiddling with, he could read some of the text on the card.
“Stevie.” Eddie sat up, moving closer to the phone and unable to stop the smirk running over his face. Steve’s eyes snapped up towards him. “Did you write out flash cards for when you called me?”
Steve’s eyes widened before he unceremoniously swept all the cards off the table in front of him, his cheeks turning a terrific shade of red and he leaned his face on his hand, trying to act as nonchalant as possible.
“No.”
It was adorable. Incredibly dorky and adorable.
Eddie laughed, full on braying belly laughs, collapsing backwards onto his bed. When he peeked back up to look at his phone through his giggles, Steve’s face was somehow even redder.
“Oh my god.” Eddie breathed. “That’s darling.”
“Shut up.”
“No, no. It’s really very sweet.”
“Ugh. Whatever.” Steve rolled his eyes but was still smiling, still had a blush lighting up his cheeks.
Eddie settled himself back against his headboard. “Actually, listen, let me ask you something.”
“Okay?”
“Does Rick know? Does he know that you know? Or that you told me?”
“No.” Steve answered, finally relaxing his fake nonchalance into real relaxation, folding his hands on the table and propping his chin up on them. “I figured if anyone had the right to rip his balls off it would be you.”
Eddie nodded.
That he could understand.
“I get that, but there’ll be no ball ripping from where I stand. No, I want to hit him where it hurts.”
“Woulda hurt me plenty.”
“Oh, I’m sure. But the only thing Rick loves more than his own balls is his car.”
Steve nodded. “Yeah, he’s like, obsessed with that thing. It’s weird. It’s not even that nice of a car.”
“I’d love to say he has bad taste but considering he picked the both of us, I’m pretty sure his tastes are actually immaculate.”
“Just his decisions are bad.”
“Exactly.”
“Well.” Steve sighed. “I’d love to help any way I can. I hate that I was involved in this, in what he did to you.”
“To us, Stevie. To us.”
“Right, so what’s the plan then?”
“When are you due to see him next?”
Tumblr media
Eddie pulled his van into the parking lot of the bar. It was halfway across town and a place that he never frequented if he could help it. Rick liked it though, always had. Eddie just liked other places around town more.
But it could be cute, he supposed. A small little country and sports type place that had a rainbow flag behind the bar and a small number of regulars who, according to Steve, wouldn’t do anything unless you got between them and their drink.
He knew that Steve was inside with Rick, playing up the flirty angle and acting tipsier than he actually was to put him at ease.
Steve had mentioned one of his signature moves involved pool, bending over the table and wiggling a little bit to keep the attention on him. Pulling out a little pout whenever he missed a shot or asking for help to line up his cue.
Eddie would be more upset by the fact that he was missing the sight of it if he didn't know he'd have the opportunity to see it himself at some point in the future.
They had talked for so long that first night, long enough that the sun was starting to come up by the time they'd both dragged themselves away from their phones to sleep.
They’d talked about their families, their friends, what they were doing in life right now as opposed to what they had hoped they would be doing when they were teenagers. They talked about their school selves and their dating lives and as the conversation wore on Eddie found himself thinking again and again about how long it had been since it had felt so easy to talk to someone like that.
It had been a very long time since Rick had put any effort into getting to know him as he grew through their two years together, like he expected Eddie to stay the same person as he was at the start of the relationship.
After that first night where they’d figured out their master plan, he and Steve had just… kept talking. Throughout the rest of the week up until tonight, they were in almost constant contact, only really taking a break to sleep and work.
Eddie felt connected to Steve and in some roundabout way he was thankful to Rick for bringing him into his life.
He’d even met Robin in passing one day, living two floors below him, holding the door open for him as he tried to wrestle with grocery bags.
She was so weird. He kind of loved her the second she opened her mouth. Honest, but with the sharpest tongue he’d ever met on a person.
She had knocked on his apartment door later that evening to tell him Steve was calling over to visit and asking if he wanted to come around to meet him.
Steve had apparently delegated the asking to her because he was too nervous to do it himself.
Again, adorable.
Steve was somehow even sweeter and even saltier in person than he was over the phone and Eddie tried hard, he tried really hard not to look too much or let his fucking horomones run away with him but Jesus. H. Christ it was difficult.
The sweetness of his soft sweaters and polos, his gentle smiles and understanding words matched with his salty mean girl attitude that would slip out every so often and the bitchiest of eye rolls that made Eddie’s heart jump.
Eddie was also trying to feel bad about what was happening but honestly, he was losing reasons to care that much.
He hadn’t texted or called Rick once in the last week and Rick himself had never reached out which all at once made Eddie realise he was the primary communicator in the relationship and it hadn’t been reciprocated in a long, long time.
Adding onto that was the knowledge that Rick was still fucking cheating on him and was in regular contact with Steve left Eddie only half heartedly feeling bad.
He and Steve would go over the screenshots of the conversation together every night and every night Eddie found it harder and harder to hang up the phone.
He was pretty sure Steve was feeling the same way.
They kept just catching each other staring. Or smiling or, pulling back from touching too much and he was almost sure that as soon as Rick was out of the picture for the both of them, something was going to blossom.
Even now, with Steve inside, flirting up a storm with Eddie’s ex-boyfriend who didn’t know he was an ex yet, they would be ending the night together.
Robin was waiting back at her apartment with an alibi ready if Eddie needed it though he suspected he wouldn’t.
Neither he nor Rick had a great track record with the police and it would be more trouble than it was worth to get them involved.
Speaking of, Eddie spotted Rick’s car, some souped up four wheel drive monstrosity of small dick syndrome sitting in the shadows and away from the cameras of the bar where Steve had convinced him to park with a suggestion of something happening in those shadows later on.
He hopped out of his van and threw open the back doors, grabbing his bag of goodies before sidling around Rick’s car to wait.
When the chords of some Shania Twain number started to leak through the walls, the signal he’d been waiting for, the sound loud enough to drown out what Eddie would be doing, he dropped his bag to the floor.
Curling his keys into his fingers and with almost a skip in his step Eddie began to carve a stripe through the immaculate and expensive paint work. Working his way around to the drivers side, he lifted the key up before bringing it back down.
With a little bit of sickening glee, he hacked the word CHEATER into the side of the car, the side that would be immediately visible from the bar door and the side Rick would have to see every time he wanted to get in and get out of the driver's seat.
At least until he paid a bomb to get it fixed.
Eddie had connections in this town. Working as a mechanic here for years would do wonderful things to extend this pain.
Rick knew fuck all about cars.
Tucking his keys back into his pocket, he sidled back around to his duffel bag, unzipping it and pulling out his Stanley blade.
Unsheathing it, he gripped it tight in his hand and punched it down into the nearest tyre, listening with satisfaction as the thing slowly deflated before moving onto the other three.
A second Shania song had started up.
He could hear Steve crooning out from inside, getting louder and Eddie knew he was running out of time.
He pulled Steve’s baseball bat from the duffle and gave it a little twirl, the same one he’d seen Steve do when he’d first handed it off and he had tried so hard not to be attracted to it.
He’d failed miserably.
Maybe Eddie could deal with a gym bunny if that gym bunny was Steve.
With an almighty swing, he brought the bat down, shattering one of the headlights with an almighty crash that wasn’t quite drowned out by the karaoke inside.
Rearing back Eddie swung again, smashing the other headlight and while the music didn’t cut off, he could clearly hear Steve inside calling out for Rick to “Wait!”
Okay, only a few seconds left.
Pulling the bat back and letting the anger and betrayal and indignation flow through him, he brought the bat down hard into the windshield where it embedded itself, the spider cracks of the tempered glass making the thing practically opaque.
The bat was fucking stuck.
Eddie knew that if he was able to pull hard enough he would be able to release the whole windshield from the car but he didn’t even have the strength in him to budge the bat.
“What the fuck?!”
Eddie slowly released his hands from the bat and turned, looking at Rick standing in the doorway of the bar, his mouth hanging wide open in shock, unable to believe what he was seeing. Steve was standing just behind him, with one hand over Rick’s chest.
To anyone else it would look like a comforting gesture, maybe. A show of support.
But Eddie could tell the hand was there to hold Rick back if he decided to lunge.
Both Steve and Rick dragged their gaze over the flat tyres, the word carved into the side, the bat stuck in the windshield.
“Hey sweetheart.” Eddie called across the distance, feeling comfortable enough to turn his back to pick up his bag, trusting Steve to at least shout if Rick was about to tackle him.
“Eddie,” Rick breathed, still open-mouthed somehow. “What in the god damned hell has gotten into you?!”
“I wasn’t talking to you.” He slung the bag over his shoulder and held his hand out.
Steve patted Rick twice on the chest and stepped out from behind him.
Rick watched him walk away looking even more bewildered than before.
With one hand Steve took Eddie’s and with the other he grabbed the bat, wiggling it a few times before pulling it free.
They broke apart as they reached Eddie’s van, Steve climbing into the passenger seat and Eddie throwing his bag in the back before starting up the van from his position in the driver's seat.
He leaned over Steve to shout out of the window, “Have a nice life, asshole!”
As the van tore out of the lot, Steve stretched both hands out of the window, two middle fingers extended until Rick, still frozen on the spot, was out of sight.
When he pulled himself back inside, Eddie saw him glance his way, a huge grin on his face.
Eddie had a smile to match, whooping into the night as they sped down the road.

He felt sick with anger. He couldn’t even think straight. All Steve could do was get into his car and drive away. Wiping off angry tears when he looked back at the trailer through the rearview mirror.
The same day.
The same fucking day.
The one that Steve had thought was so romantic. Their first Valentine’s Day together. It had exceeded any expectations he could have had. Originally, he'd just assumed the day would consist of him pathetically pining while trying to act normal. But instead it ended in the love confession of his dreams.
He just hadn’t been informed of the quick fuck Eddie had done in between ditching his ass and declaring his utter devotion.
Steve had spent hours fretting when Eddie left that day. Thinking that he’d tainted him. That he’d ruined everything by misreading signals that weren’t there. That he’d finally caught on to Steve’s bullshit, his consistent failures at trying to be platonic.
All he’d wanted to do was apologize, praying that Eddie wasn’t about to come back and demand Steve get out of his life for good.
But then… he told him everything Steve had been fantasizing about for months. He kissed him, made him feel so loved. Wanted. Like they were the only two people in the world. Just to find out Eddie was off double-checking to see if he even wanted a man.
The thought of it was driving Steve insane.
The image of someone else, touching his Eddie, just hours before that magical moment was making his skin crawl.
Steve had spent the last few months so sure about everything. The sudden doubt was taking his breath away, choking him while his brain rushed with questions. Was she the only one? Or was that what Eddie was off doing the few times they were apart a day?
Was he really capable of something like that?
Even with the rage, Steve was starting to doubt the very thing he saw with his own eyes.
This was Eddie. The person he spent eighty percent of his time with. The one who called him beautiful. The one who proved how deeply he meant it dozens of times. How could any one fake what was between them? How would he even find the time?
What would be the point?
Maybe it really was a one off. Maybe he should have listened to him. Steve didn’t know. He didn’t know anything. Except that he wasn’t going to figure this one out alone.
Steve didn’t bother calling before pulling up to her house, deciding that he could live with the Buckley family seeing him cry. But by the grace of God, her parent’s car wasn’t in the driveway when he made it there.
By the time he was knocking on her door, Steve was already tearing up again.
It took her to answer it, half-way through a planned argument when she opened it, “I told you, we already bought girl-scout cookies- Steve?”
He sniffled, giving her a dumb little wave while she ushered him inside, “That’s me.”
“What did he do?” Robin hissed, locking the door behind him. She was hugging him before he even knew what was happening, standing on her tip toes so he could start crying into her shoulder, “I’ll fucking kill him.”
Steve laughed, the venom in her voice enough to shake himself out of his misery. He stepped back, wiping at his eyes with a smile, “You don’t have to kill him. Yet.”

The Arkham guards have a betting pool over which one is going to annoy the other to violence first. Little do they know that being annoyed is just foreplay at this point in their relationship. 😉
