why doesnt anybody ever talk abt how much more expensive books have gotten just in like. the past 10 years. paperbacks regularly cost like more than 20$ now and i just saw a hardcover for almost 40!!! when i was a kid paperbacks were at Most 12$ and hardcovers were like 20$ max. what the hell has happened. what is the world coming to

So last weekend, my mother and I had a girl's weekend. (This is not what either of us called it, but "she was in town and stayed in my guest bedroom" doesn't have the same ring.) Anyway, she was here Friday so we went and saw "The Substance" because there really wasn't much to do at 2pm on a random Friday except head to the movies.

The film was delightful, it was, but honestly the most fun part was afterwards---we spent a good couple hours talking about it, the themes! the imagery! whether it was effective horror, why it was funny and horrible and funny again; we talked about it more the next day. And even more than the movie itself, that was what I enjoyed---it's been a long time since I've had a real flesh and blood person with whom to excitedly talk with about themes and such.

I bring this up not to brag, but to wish that I could bring that person (or even just a person) with me to all the random stuff I'm interested in. I want to have a 2 hour conversation about the deliciously intricate puppet-filled haunted house show i just saw, but no one wanted to go or was free. What am I supposed to do with my opinions now?

One of my all time favorite things is to go to good will or yard sales or a thrift place or whatever place has a ton of other peoples old books and just look for notes.

Like today I found a book from 1967 with a note written on the inner cover "Dee, heres another newbury for you collection!"

Or someones writing class syllabus folded up and tucked into the back of a Brothers Grimm.

Theres something about the human connection of it all

The weather was practicing at dreary all week but cleared out last night and righted itself for a park day this afternoon :)

I took like an hour and a half after work to run all the errands I've been putting off for weeks and now the thing is on its way back to Amazon and I have a clean car and a new hoodie and a fresh candle and if I could figure out how to do this all the time I'd be unstoppable! 🥸

Sasha Alex Sloan had karaoke as her opening act (like, randos from the audience on stage with a mic looking at a projector screen showing a YouTube karaoke video of their chosen song) and it was low key perfect 🧑‍🎤

Texted the manager asking if the surprise work dinner invite next week was good news or bad news and they responded with a lot of words that amounted to 🤷

hey uh I've only used airbnb twice because I don't live in America but I'm seeing posts about how hotels are better in every way and while I can't speak to the accuracy of most arguments I'd like to point out the nuance that for people like me having access to a kitchen (something hotels basically never give) is absolutely a requirement if I'm staying more than like one night. The vast majority of food served in hotels and restaurants I can't eat and chances are I won't be able to check in advance if I'm going to run into enough exceptions to not make myself sick (twice I've gotten sick traveling because I wasn't able to find enough foods and spent a week eating like two ingredients, due to unforeseen complications). I need a kitchen or I can't risk going. Kitchenless hotel rooms are an accessibility issue.

Something I'll never understand is how apple elitists will find ANY excuse to bring up how they have [apple product] and you have [not apple product]

Like that annoying new guy that was in the breakroom and would not shut up (I get you're bored but it's 7am and we don't care), had walked past me and saw how small my phone is. It's not SMALL but it's not like the length and width of my hand, iPhones are like at least 1.5 the size now.

Anyway he was like "damn what kinda phone is that??" (Meaning what iphone is that) *sees the big SAMSUNG on the top "oh you got samsung. But I bet you USED to have an iphone before right?"

Why would you assume that?? That's such a fucking weird thing to say like unprompted to someone. And I was like no??? I've always had androids?? (And LG before smartphones lol) And it's like they always assume you didn't have a choice, and only got an android bc you couldnt get an iphone. Like no I think iPhones are pieces of garbage, I hate the way the app store works, and the only apple products I've ever had were ipod touches. I like being able to choose where my apps go and can download "non-approved" apps and shit. Bitch I CHOSE this phone bc I LIKE it. I only got my other phone (which IS iphone size) bc this one no longer gets service from the network I use. I use this one for everything but calls and texts, and my actual phone-phone for calls, texts, and sometimes youtube. I paid like $100 max for each phone, I ain't paying more than $150 for a phone that's gonna be slowed down by the company I bought it from in a planned obsolescence scheme to get me to drop another $500-$1000+ in a year or two.

But yeah apple superior you're right 🙄
