So what your saying is depicting the real experience of people wearing glasses is too bothersome and not profitable so let us rather join the optometrist store hellhole where glasses don't exist, I think I've heard that somewhere else already
Where our current filming techniques are optimized in a way that makes filming specific groups of people inconvenient and therefore makes them undesirable to have on screen
That is not something I would defend
can we talk about how literally 64% of people wear glasses, and yet we NEVER see them in movies/tv unless it's on some nerdy or uncool character? why do we adhere to such a weird beauty standard that subconsciously makes us feel bad for,, not being able to see???
#also holy shit 60 bucks for glasses would be hella cheap.#i have all my prescriptions#and can get them for free at the optometrist as well#don't even have to go to a doctor (I can obviously it just takes more effort)#but next time I need new glasses/sunglasses I for sure will check online#gotta do some digging which stores are good and which are shady af#I know you can just go to the Drug store and get cheap glasses there including prescription#they just don't look so fancy

Point to Consider on Purchasing Best Menâs Prescription Glasses
The best menâs prescription glasses will not merely provide the eyes protection from the sun but also there are glasses that come with paired shades which easily stops the sun from reflecting off the water into your eyes. The best thing about is that you will also be able to look through the water with these glasses.

So I have vision insurance again which means I was able to go to the optometrist and get glasses through insurance for the first time in 11 years (instead of paying out of pocket and getting glasses from zenni) and here are my notes:
It's *NOT GREAT* that Luxotica is mentioned by name on the insurance card printout
I know everything got more expensive in the last ten years, but frames also got a lot more expensive and for some reason there was a huge gap in prices - my insurance covered $130 for frames and the office had a bunch of frames for $70 and a bunch of frames for $150 but basically no frames between those two price points.
When you say "I can't afford to go over the allowance" on XYZ thing they are not even *considering* the cost of progressive bifocals. So I was like "no coating, cheap frames, no extras" and then they were like "okay so the progressive bifocal is going to be over a hundred dollars more" and I was like "how much is the bifocal with a line" and they were like "oh that's only $15 but we don't consider that appropriate for your age, we recommend this other kind of lens" and it doesn't matter what you consider age appropriate for me, I can't afford that so we're not doing that.
The seventy dollar frames are all kind of trash. Super thin, super bendy, and not in a good "flexible fit" way but more in a "if you fall asleep in these you will wake up with broken glasses" way.
They wrote down my reading prescription wrong? For the last ten years I've been slowly creeping up from +.25 to my current +2.50; they told me it had increased but the printout said +.75 so either my prescription has been wrong for a while or they missed the 2 at the front of that number and my glasses are going to show up with a low magnification. (I noticed after I'd left the office but before the glasses arrived).
Given all of that, with insurance: $25 for a pair of glasses, which included the office copay.
So then of course I went to zenni and ordered glasses anyway because I've been wearing the same frame design for seven years and want another pair that look exactly like that.
Progressive bifocals WERE the most expensive part of the order, and because my prescription is stronger they are getting progressively more expensive - initially the upgrade to bifocal cost something like $30 for a lower magnification, now they're $85 for the stronger prescription.
And that's it, that's the expensive part. Fifteen dollar frames, five dollar anti-reflective coating, total for bifocals was around a hundred dollars; I got a pair of single-vision sunglasses for under $20.
Part of the reason I decided to spend more at zenni than at my optometrist's office was because I was able to get good, sturdy frames that I know fit my face and will survive mosh pits and me falling asleep on them without cracking. In order to get the same thing at the optometrist's office I would have had to pay thirty dollars more for lenses as well as forty more for frames so I would have walked out of there paying more for a pair of glasses with frames that I wasn't super excited about (there was a pair that was *okay* but not great that were similar in construction to my current frames but more bulky and square) than I did for glasses that I know I like and a pair of sunglasses.
I did end up paying less out of pocket for the visit than I would have without the insurance, and $15 for a pair of back-up glasses isn't bad. But it was all-in-all a frustrating experience.
However: I've been wearing the same pair of glasses for three years and the anti-reflective coating is worn away in some places and they're so scratched that they're impossible to actually clean in some places and large bastard looked through them last week and was like "OH! No wonder you can't tell when you need to clean your windshield! You don't get to drive at night until those are replaced" so no matter what glasses I'm wearing next week they're going to be an improvement.

Some notes for anyone writing a character with glasses, from someone who wears glasses everyday:
- glasses need to come off before changing a shirt, unless it has a really big collar. Otherwise, glasses will get ripped off by said shirt collar.
- weather will affect how well you can see out of them, especially rain. Raindrops will dot glasses and itâs like trying to drive a car in the rain without working windshield wipers. Snow sometimes does this too, but not as bad, and lots of dust kicking up will make glasses dirty and foggy. If itâs humid enough (talking like swampy, Deep South levels, weather app says â90-100% humidityâ), glasses will fog up when you step outside. If itâs crazy windy, glasses can fly off and the character should hold onto them or take them off and put them somewhere safe. Theyâll usually get dirty or break in a pants pocket, so maybe have character carry around a sturdy glasses case if needed.
- not all materials are good for wiping glasses off. Some shirt materials just make it worse.
- if your characterâs glasses are super dirty or smudged, they will be able to see it 24/7 as they look around and itâs annoying af.
- although glasses can keep things from getting in a characterâs eyes (like something thatâs been sprayed), it doesnât protect our eyes all the time, especially if itâs coming at an angle or thereâs a large amount. For that, youâd need actual safety glasses or goggles (and yes, they do make prescription goggles, but theyâre not cheap).
- speaking of waves, for the love of god, DO NOT have your character swim with their glasses on. At best, theyâll get wet and they wonât be able to see. At worst, if theyâre forced underwater or an ocean wave smacks them in the face, theyâll fly off and/or break.
- a crack in glasses is actually annoying af and makes it very hard to see.
- if a characterâs face is wet, like from sweat or a ton of rain, their glasses will continuously slide down their nose and theyâll need to keep pushing them back up.
- lots of liquids other than water will make glasses opaque.
- glasses should be fitted pretty well to a personâs head. So if the characterâs face is dry or thereâs a moderate amount of wind, the âlegsâ that go behind their ears should be tight enough that they donât just constantly fly off or slip down their nose. If they do, theyâre too big (but obviously something a tornado will make them fly off).
- although I hate the whole âthey took off their glasses and now theyâre a ⨠model â¨â trope, people do tend to look very different with glasses on vs off - especially a character like Harry Potter who constantly wears their glasses. Itâs not unrealistic that people who donât know the character well (or even those who do, but just arenât as quick) wonât recognize them at first without their glasses.
- as far as I know (correct me if Iâm wrong, but Iâve never been able to do this), if a lens pops out of the frames, it canât be popped back in by non-professionals without the right tools. The glasses are just done for.
- if your character has contacts in (or this is a psa for anyone who wears contacts), DO NOT have them rub their eyes. The contact will pop out and theyâre very translucent and tiny, so trust me, it will just fall and be lost forever.
- being able to see clearly out of one eye and not the other (like with a broken/missing lens or a contact falling out) causes headaches.
- glasses are expensive af in the US (idk about other places). One time when I didnât have vision insurance, an eye exam and two frames with lenses (I have blue eyes and very extreme light sensitivity, so have to have prescription sun glasses as well as regular glasses) cost over $900USD. If you want the special frames that become tinted and basically turn into sunglasses when you walk outside, it will cost extra.
- speaking of those lenses that become tinted when you walk outside, they take awhile to fade back to normal after you go back inside. Your character needs to be prepared to still be âwearingâ sunglasses for the first 5-10 minutes after they walk inside.
- if a character is wearing contacts, they can wear normal sunglasses. If not, theyâll need special prescription sunglasses to be able to see. You cannot wear prescription sunglasses with contacts in or you wonât be able to see anything. Ever tried to look through your friendâs glasses and everythingâs weird and warped and giving you a headache? Thatâs what it will look like.
- not exactly glasses related, but people with lighter colored eyes will always have worse light sensitivity than people with darker eyes. I have very blue eyes and looking up at the sky on a sunny day will literally make me see stars, and especially if Iâm driving towards the sun while itâs setting, I have to have my sunglasses on or I literally will not be able to see and tears will be leaking out my eyes the whole way home.
- speaking of prescription sunglasses, unless your character can see pretty far without their glasses or theyâre far sighted, you cannot just take prescription sunglasses off and still be able to see, especially while driving. You just have to deal with it and keep the sunglasses on and look like a Matrix wannabe if it gets cloudy or starts raining, or you have to do the super speedy Dance of Death where youâre still watching the road in front of you, taking off one pair of glasses and putting the other on super fast (which usually requires you to use your mouth to open and close things).
- GLASSES ARE FRAGILE. Seriously, a very petite person could sit in them and snap them in half. Theyâre not something you want your character just throwing around.
- there are varying levels of how well someone can see. Thereâs farsightedness and nearsightedness. Some people donât have that much trouble and can see pretty far, so only wear their glasses as needed. But some people (aka moi) can genuinely only see a few inches in front of their face. Like if I ever lost my glasses or they broke, Iâd be done for. I wouldnât be able to work or drive or do anything around the house.
- glasses need to be replaced about once a year because of possible prescription changes or sometimes lenses losing their strength and becoming harder to see through. Trying to tough it out after long enough will give your character headaches/migraines and sore eyes from eye strain.
- some mascaras (especially thick ones) will smudge glasses when the character blinks. Same with false lashes (although theyâll brush instead of smudge). Usually less intense mascaras and shorter fake lash lengths are better.
- eye makeup is harder to see with glasses on.
- please, please, PLEASE stop using the whole âomg look how much prettier/more attractive they are without their glassesâ trope. Not everyoneâs eyes can handle contacts and some people prefer wearing their glasses. And it makes those of us who prefer glasses or have to wear them feel like shit, especially because there arenât a lot of characters with glasses in media who donât become the butt of a joke (ie the one wearing glasses is the âugly ducklingâ for it like in princess diaries, or like Velma from scooby doo always losing them and patting around, or people who wear glasses will always be some sort of dorky/insufferable know it all).
- glasses come in all shapes, sizes, and colors and can be used to actually enhance a characterâs style! Some of them even have magnetic frames that click in place over the simple pair, so have fun using glasses to build your characterâs style.
- edit to add: no one ever purposely falls asleep with their glasses on. You will crush and break them when you roll around. However, if a character does accidentally fall asleep with them on, a love interest gently taking them off so they donât wake them up and setting them on the table next to them can be a super cute moment.
- whoops thought of some more. Hair products, especially hairspray, can be a bitch to get off glasses and doesnât always just rinse off with water. If theyâre spraying anything, including dry shampoo, the glasses have gotta come off and get out of the line of fire first.
- hair can and will get caught in the little hinge by the legs and we do occasionally not notice till we take our glasses off and rip a hair out of our heads.
- be careful when you comb or brush, cuz if the glasses legs get caught in the brush or comb, it will be ripped off our face.
Hope this helps! May the writing gods bless your work đ¤

This is Iva Sketch! She is my pony sona! :D
Her dream is to become the greatest fashion illustrator of all of Canterlot! As well as to be able to collaborate with her idol in a fashion collection, Rarity.
As a filly growing up in ponyville, Iva has admired Rarityâs fashion sense as well as the life in Canterlot (after witnessing Princess Cadence and Shining Armorâs wedding, she admired all of the different outfits each pony wore.) then started sketching out multiple illustrations almost daily as to one day have Rarity create a dress out of her designs. After one day, she was sketching, her cutie mark appeared! She knew her destiny was to move to Canterlot and become the most well known fashion illustrator of all time!
Iva loves to think of fashion as an art form, she wants to make everypony feel like a work of art when wearing one of her designs. Sheâll work hard to make that happen. As time passes, her art skills improve and can sketch a quick design in under 2 minutes! She enjoys exploring new styles and techniques to more unique designs!
Her flaws is that she is a bit of a hot head, doesnât know how to handle any stressful/negative emotions. Her mental health has been all over the place over the years. Sheâs also an extreme introvert and likes to keep to herself but would like to make some friends.
She thinks to be taken seriously as a fashion illustrator, she needs to dress the part. She started styling herself and works at a boutique to gain enough bits to get high end clothes. She loves to go over the top with makeup and jewelry.
If sheâs low on bits, she thrifts and goes to casual, cheap stores to get clothes too! âExpensive doesnât mean instant style â in her words.â¨
Her favorite food is anything with strawberries! đ sheâs also a huge coffee drinker and has a full to the brim mug a day!âď¸
She gets cold very easily, she sleeps in full pjs with any cute patterns to keep warm in cold nights.
When sheâs not in full glam, sheâs usually wearing big sweaters or simpler clothes. She also has two pairs of prescription sunglasses. One for everyday and one for dressing up with.she also likes to tie her mane in a low ponytail sometimes.
Fanart is welcome! I would like to see her in different art styles! Be creative with the clothing! đ¨đď¸
If thereâs anything you would like to know/ask about my sona, donât be shy! âşď¸

I had cataract surgery 22 years ago. I was born with cataracts so for me, the world was never clear. I never saw colors correctly but I didn't know better, of course. I enjoyed the surgery and I remember when they removed my natural lens and put in the new one. The clarity was amazing! I remember saying, with such joy, "I can see!". They all laughed. I'm sure that the doctor must get such pleasure out of how pleased his patients are with the results. I don't have near vision any longer and I'll always have to wear reading glasses but I'll take it. I spent 39 years with no distance vision and expensive, thick glasses. The first thing my husband did was stop at a store and buy me as many cheap sunglasses as I wanted! Such a dream! Prescription sunglasses were so expensive and never really cute. I couldn't get over how my skin looked. Where did the wrinkles come from? The changes in the color red and white were so different! I would go to baseball games before my surgery and I couldn't see the ball leave the pitcher's hand, get hit by the batter and fly out into the field. I never understood how people could see the ball to play the game. The very first time I saw that whole sequence of events, I burst into tears because I realized how much of my life I had missed out on because I couldn't see. Cataract surgery was and is life changing, even 22 years later. I thank God that I had it and that my surgeon had the skills to correct my vision. I know exactly how amazing everything is for you now, Skippy. Enjoy! From snow covered Kentucky.
Oh thank YOU so much for sharing your experience! Oh wow! I am so happy for you. This surgery is truly a gift from God. It is life changing, one gets back their âquality of lifeâ. I love your view of baseball, and when you see itâŚit makes sense. The sunglassesâŚ.so cute. I have a pair I got in San Diego that I wore when I wore contacts. I saved them, as I quit wearing contacts lens years ago, nd on,y wore glasses, so the sunglasses were of no use. I found them shortly before I even knew I had cataracts. Now I know why I found themâŚI will need themâŚ.i am so happy about that. These surgeons that perform cataract surgery are amazing. They get to see âhappyâ results so quickly. They do Godâs work for sure. Thank YOU again for sharing, I love this post! God Bless you and yours, may the sun keep âbrightly shiningâ for youâŚ.đđťâ¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸

Have you found any replacement fashionable blue light glasses yet? I got a cheap pair but they look like welding glasses.
No, but I haven't been looking since I got my red-tinted prescription glasses that block blue light better than the typical yellow-ish anti-blue light lenses.
If you don't mind wearing shades indoors, you might find some cool looking red tinted UV rated sunglasses, just make sure they're also rated for UVA and UVB protection.
I got my brother this pair a while ago (link), and he really likes them for preventing his problems with blue light.

Finally updated my contact prescription and excellent bonus, the corneal dystrophy is much less visible and i can actually be corrected to 20/20 again. Slight annoyance; everything is big and bendy again. My phone is weirdly concave and flat surfaces are too. I know it'll go away but đśit's been awhile đś
(Also the doc brought me a glasses case (which i had asked for) and the 'sorry we blew up your pupils' sunglasses (which i had not - sidenote, the retinal imager thing? Fuck yes i would rather pay the $40 than be destroyed all day). I took the glasses case but said i don't need the sunglasses bc i always have glasses in the car. She pointed out that i was wearing contacts and my prescription sunglasses would be less helpful; i said oh, no, i always have a big plastic pair of cheap sunglasses in the car that'll fit over my glasses in case i forget my sunglasses. She went 'huh.' I went 'yeah the dangerous $1 aisle at target is great for that.' Now, are the cheapo sunglasses polarized? No. Which sucks, but better than being blasted by the Great Unfeeling Glowy Orb. She thought that was pretty entertaining too.)
#adventures in being blind as fuuuuuck#the tech walked in on me trying to update part of my file on the patient portal with my glasses down and the phone 3in from my face#and started laughing#laughed harder when i demonstrated what i would do constantly when wearing my contacts and trying the same#and how my mom would cackle at me if she caught me doing it#also apparently bc my eyes need 2x the drops for dilation and thus like 4x the time spent blown out they can bill the $40 to insurance#so like#hell to the fuck yes my dude

Sheila and I and another couple drove US 35 through Wisconsin and along the Mississipi River today. I like the small towns that dot the route. For lunch we stopped in Stockholm, WI at the Humble Moon Folkstead and Saloon.
If it's Sunday and there's an NFL game on anywhere in the world I'm contractually obligated to order a bloody Mary. Here I am trying on someone else's nice sunglasses as I enjoy a bloody made with horseradish vodka. It came with a beer chaser too! My own non-prescription sunglasses have a little distortion. These Maui Jim shades made me think I was wearing prescription lenses. They were so nice.
This restaurant saves trees by having a single menu, handwritten on small sheets of padper. We ordered at a counter and passed around the list. Sheila and I each got a cheeseburgers with fried onions (hers had mayo too) and side of fries. The meal was excellent.
The four of us sat in the patio area which had a few of these propane heaters. Sheila ansd I are thinking of getting one for home. Had the heaters not been enough, there was a barrel of clean blankets we could have used to sit on or under.
Other ways to indicate "his" and hers," including an explanation if the first word wasn't enough of a hint:
For dessert we crossed the street to the Stockholm Pie Shop and General Store. A slice of pie wasn't cheap (like what is these days), but it was huge. We shared one slice.
From Stockholm we motored further south to Nelson, WI where we bought beef sticks and ice cream at the creamery there.
I started the 90 minute drive home. After a short time I asked Sheila to take over because I thought I might fall asleep. Excellent lunch, a cocktail, followed by a sugar rush. It took a lot out of me.

Nobody asked but here's a list of stuff that I bring with me when I go out. All stuff that helps me cope and feel more secure and confident when out and about.
My phone. Has an AAC app on it just in case, haven't used yet due to anxiety and complex feelings about it
My school jacket which is a comfort item that also happens to have 4 pockets which I use completely (I've got stuff like small stim toys, my wallet, pads, etc., in them)
My sunflower lanyard
My communication cards which are attached to my lanyard
My noise-cancelling headphones
My prescription sunglasses and the cool tinted add-on lenses that connect to the main frame with magnets
My crossbody bag that I call my "accessibility bag" because I can. Specifically a crossbody bag for easy access to what I bring
What I have in my bag
Bottle of water
Snacks
My glasses case
Mini bag full of stim toys (tangles, pop-its that can turn into bracelets, a chewy, rubber bands, monkey noodles, bubbler pen)
A notebook and small pencilcase
A cheap LCD tablet
An umbrella
Chewing gum
Painkillers and anti-inflammatories
An eye mask
A mask
A wire for my headphones (connects them to my phone like wired headphones) incase they die
Some bracelets that I made, plus other jewellery like rings because sometimes I spontaneously want to wear them
My small orca plushie named BĂłinn that is literally my daughter and nobody can tell me otherwise. She's my little portable emotional support animal :]

save do you have any tips for managing migraines
uhhhhhh lessee
personally i have prescriptions for it cause mine screwed my brain up but obvious ones like proper rest + maybe log what you eat and see if theres any correlation + general put nutrients in your body stuff which is actually kind of hard to keep track of
i have some REALLY WEIRD scent based triggers so i have to stay away from ammonia-like scents and eucalyptus cause those will put my ass out flat IMMEDIATELY, thats not an everyone thing but maybe note if theres sensory stuff around you that might be a trigger
for me warm toned lights and screen tints are way better than cool tones/white light and if youve got light colored eyes wear amber tinted sunglasses outdoors
water + salty snack > pedialite > gatorade and depending on caffeine sensitivity maybe moderate that cause it can either help or hurt, kinda depends on the person, but water and saltines will get you electrolytes and its cheap as fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck even if it doesnt taste as great as gatorade
sunlight on your skin and not in your eyeballs
also vitamin d just in general helps but its way better to actually use the sun for that than trying to digest it so like just 10ish minutes in the sun is what my neurologist recommended on top of taking 2000mg tablets
thats what ive got off the top of my head
#im not a neurologist but i dont get them as bad anymore at least#also if learning what you feel like beforehand so you can nip it before it starts helps a LOT#if you can take a painkiller before it starts itll do way more for you#but also dont undertreat it like dont stick it out thats what fucked me up hardcore just take the painkiller#i have to take at least 800mg of ibuprofen if i even sniff a migraine coming on but check with a doc before you do that#i also gotta pair it with sumatriptan and i can only do that 3 times a month Or Else#if ibuprofen doesnt knock it outta me its an er trip and they stuff an iv in me and pump my ass so full of drugs#oh also too much water can also cause migraines#best to stick with the 8 8oz a day thing and not go too far over#but yeah being proactive and preventative is better than coasting and treating them when they come#sometimes ill sip a little pickle juice causenits got magnesium and potassium on top of the sodium for electrolytes#i know food logs arent GREAT but they can help with stuff like this even just kinda checking in on if youre getting everything you need#i go sorta peasant with it like as long as ive had a couple greens in a week i should be good to go#snap peas or artichoke hearts or other really solid veggables#or#god bless#The Cucumber#cucumbers are the powerhouse of the vegatable

It's probably too late but I've saved money by getting my eye prescription from the eye doctor and ordering glasses online myself through sites like zenni or eyebuydirect (my preferred option). They offer transitions, and prescription sunglasses and yes they come with the prescription lense. I'm talking perfectly good prescription eye glasses for like, $15. I have multiple pairs of glasses now both for fashion and as back ups. It's real easy
i did order them off one of those sites, it was still like $97 (which I know is cheap compared to the $300 for my last pair) but its still stupid that they cost more then $20 all together for something I literally can't function without y'know?
#doueverthink#this applies to like anything and everything people can't be without esp medically#i'm just complaining about glasses specifically

Online stores can help you to get the best cheap prescription sunglasses. The best part of the modern eyewear is that they are available in different shapes, colors and different materials. You can easily find a range of eyeglasses to choose from-the classic shapes including oval, rectangle and the almond-shaped glasses and even the conventional colors including gold and silver.
