Have you got an old Mac that is no longer supported by Apple? It's time to give it a new life.
How to install the latest MacOS on Mac hardware that is no longer officially supported using OpenCore Legacy Patcher.
I recently discovered this and it has been a game changer. Recently my partner needed a Mac for her music course, so we bought a 2012 Macbook Pro as it was cheap and on paper still had decent hardware for working with music. We were then disappointed to find out that it is no longer supported by Apple, and therefore can't run the latest version of Logic, which she needed to inter-op with the school comptuers. Just as we thought we had bought a less than useful computer, I found this video about OpenCore Legacy Patcher from Youtuber Action Retro.
It's a community made piece of software that allows you to install the latest version of MacOS on any Intel Mac, from the late 2000s onwards. All you need to do is download the application on a mac, it will then allow you to make a bootable USB drive for any version of MacOS you want, and you just need to choose the specific mac you are targeting from a list, and it "blesses" the bootable drive, allowing you to install it on your unsupported mac using the normal install process.
Tumblr media
I tried it and it it worked perfectly on the 2012 Macbook Pro, and the latest version of MacOS Sonoma is running perfectly well on the 12 year old hardware. It also allowed us to install the latest version of Logic, so it's working great.
Props to the team for making this and allowing hardware that would otherwise be e-waste to continue to be usable with the modern internet and software. If you end up using it, please consider donating to the team as apparently they had to jump through some serious technical hoops to get this working. Here is the link again if you need it: https://dortania.github.io/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/

How to Make the Zodiac Signs Hate You
Aries
Insult something they are passionate about. Tell them Vikings is just a Game of Thrones copycat. And that parties are lame gatherings for people who hate themselves so much they cannot stand being alone for one moment.
Taurus
Call them a victim of consumerism. Tell them advertising is the only difference between a MacBook Pro and a PC. And that eating gourmet food is classist because they are spitting on people who can only afford McDonald’s.
Gemini
React negatively to whatever they say. Keep a straight face after they tell a joke, or call it corny. Tell them there is something politically incorrect about what they said and accuse them of racism for being kind enough to try and cheer you up.
Cancer
Invalidate their emotions after they have revealed their feelings to you so vulnerably. Tell them they are being too dramatic. Say that all their problems would instantly go away if they just stop being so damn sensitive.
Leo
Attack them personally instead of responding to their political or societal statement with an intelligent counter argument. Take the idiotic and cowardly path of just correcting their grammar or insulting their fashion sense instead.
Virgo
Be dirty and stupid. Avoid taking a shower before going with them to the movies. Wear a shirt with ketchup stains on it. Send them fake news regularly and never proofread your messages to them before hitting send.
Libra
Show micro-aggressions consistently. When you see them looking at Kim Kardashian’s Instagram, tell them that that talentless whore is cheap and disgusting. Always be negative, critical, envious, jealous and sarcastic.
Scorpio
Ask them to be nicer. Tell them to smile more. Beg them to forgive their cheating ex. Berate them for getting back at some bully. Remind them that violence is never the answer. Ask them, “What would Jesus do?”
Sagittarius
Be bitter and pessimistic. Tell them you are glad COVID put a stop to traveling, because the whole thing is pointless and people only did it to show off on social media. Declare how much you hate humanity because people are stupid.
Capricorn
Be impractical. Tell them you never save money because you could die tomorrow, and all that cash would only go to waste. Say college is dumb. That you could get rich just by winning the lottery while chilling in your parents’ basement.
Aquarius
Show them your ignorance. Be a subtle anarchist. Ask them not to vote. Tell them it does not matter who the world leaders are because everyone is corrupt one way or another anyway and we are all going to die someday.
Pisces
Call them childish. Shame them for liking Pixar movies well into their 20s. Ask them to stop listening to Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez or Taylor Swift. Tell them that anything other than classical music is 100% stupid.

iwaizumi hajime uses wired apple headphones!!!!!!! all the time forever and ever even after bluetooth and airpods like whateverr he doesn’t care. he upgraded once from ogs to the kind that fit in your ears better and have the volume/microphone on the right wire and he never looked back. they’re more reliable he doesn’t have to remember to charge them they’re cheap for when they (inevitably) break he puts them in his pocket for two (2) seconds they come back out All Knotted Up he has to untangle them constantly but it’s #worthit. he wears them so the main wire is under his sweatshirt/jacket and only the ear pieces are out through the collar (CRUCIAL) this mostly practical so it doesn’t get caught on things (or yanked) but also looks so fjcking cool even though he doesn’t actually care. hoooollylyt shit this image is So Vivid.
flash forward i’m picturing iwaizumi hajime (27) athletic trainer making BANK he has all the newer apple products nice phone macbook pro ipad w pencil apple watch (big fitness guy) and the same shitty wired headphones he’s been using since middle school. he Will Not convert. he gets flamed by the team but he can work out and listen to music without worrying abt airpods falling out and getting crushed in the weight room by bokuto’s deadlift plates he’s WINNING he’s So Right he sacrifices sound quality for convenience he is set in his ways you can’t teach an old dog new tricks and hajime is a 2000s kid through and through

And now for something completely different: a random product review!
This is a Port Authority Xcape BG100 computer backpack, with print-on-demand customization by Spreadshirt/Spreadshop. In the US, it retails for $27+tax from Mozilla's apparently-official merch shop, which regularly has free shipping promotions.
Now, first off, and importantly when considering this an ostensible piece of branded merchandise: the Firefox Aurora logo (now Nightly, but I'm sure you can see why Aurora was the original name/branding) that I picked here is apparently a terrible choice for generic print-on-demand, since the teal color it fades to at the upper right is probably way too saturated to be printable with a lot of processes. Mozilla probably shouldn't offer this design on this product, and I can't say anything about how good Spreadshirt's print accuracy is based on this.
That being said, in this particular case I don't actually care about this at all; if you just told me the result is a random (natural-gas-flame-themed?) alternative colorway for the Firefox logo I'd believe you:
Tumblr media
Now, on to more practical matters. This product is, for some reason, $27. The same backpack on Amazon, without customization, is... $32. The bottom-of-the-barrel Amazon Basics backpack that appears when I search "backpack" on Amazon is $24. We're not talking about some $250 LTT bullshit here; the bar is somewhere around "it doesn't suck," and it definitely doesn't suck.
Size is important. I wouldn't call this a huge bag in length and width, but the claimed 7" depth seems about right and makes for a pretty voluminous interior. The angle shown on the sale page rather undersells the depth; the manufacturer's image might oversell it a bit (that one's pretty stuffed) but I would call it a reasonable, practical size.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The laptop pocket is described as fitting "most 17" laptop computers," and I think that's about right, maybe a bit optimistic considering how huge a 17" gaming laptop is these days. A typical 16" gaming laptop should fit fine (not going to bother to borrow my friend's to try it unless someone asks). I don't put my laptop directly in my bag, though, I put it in a sleeve, and a 16" M1 Macbook Pro in a padded sleeve just fits through the side zipper, which is what I need it to do, so, hey. I would call it minimally padded; I haven't tried other tech backpacks so I don't know what the standard is here but I would not want to put my laptop in without a sleeve. The separate laptop compartment and sleeve are more than it looks like you get on a lot of cheap backpacks, though.
Besides that, there are half-height and full-height flat front pockets, one with an organizer (with a zippered mesh; manufacturer pic is a bit old), and then the one big main compartment. No comments here; that's about how I'd do it. It's not much organization, but a lot of space efficiency if you're packing e.g. clothes. The zipper for the large compartment is angled, as you can see in the pic, which I think is smart. The elastic water bottle mesh pockets on the sides seem to work (my old bag's weren't deep enough and so the bottle would fall out, making them functionally useless; they probably should have angled the ones on this bag a little less but I think they're secure enough).
Build quality seems perfectly adequate; I can find no cut corners or anything chintzy, which is saying a lot for merch. Handling it, I'd easily believe you if you told me this was $60+ (and maybe it was when it came out in, I think, 2018). Zippers are large enough and smooth (plastic coil; metal body); strap padding and ventilation are reasonable; back padding and ventilation are rather good. The plastic top handle is a nice touch. (I might avoid using it if you filled the bag with something really, really dense; because of that angled zipper the handle attach point isn't on the strongest part of the bag, but whatever).
I have the "charcoal" color, which is a subtle two-tone. I wasn't sure if the grey would be very light, which wouldn't look great IMHO; the color is actually on the darker side, certainly darker than those photos depending on light angle, and really just makes it read as a black backpack that someone put significant effort designing some visual depth into. The use of multiple material pieces and angled stitching does look quite sharp; looking at it, I'd probably believe you if you told me it was $120?
So, in conclusion, uh... I dunno. I can't immediately think of anything I would change about it, and while I haven't tried any other competing products, it seems better-designed, better-looking, and less expensive than other similar things you could buy, and I guess it's also technically Firefox (or whatever else you want if you just go on Spreadshirt) merch.
Buy used stuff, obviously, when you can, and consider more environmentally friendly fabrics or whatever. But other than that, yeah, sure, if you need a backpack go buy this. It's cheaper than the price bump for a year of ad-free Tumblr, so that's something.

My MacBook Pro, it is dying.
Well, not really, but it is quickly growing obsolete. I've had it since 2012. It will no longer update past Catalina. I can no longer update Chrome, and I can't use Microsoft Teams for work (pretty sure the rest of my Microsoft 365 is the same). I thought about a refurbished 2020 from BackMarket but the latest OS they have is Monterrey and that will end security updates at the end of the year.
Look I would love to say fuck the man/capitalism and find someone to build me a homemade bespoke laptop with Linux and local recovered wood or whatever, but damn I've been proud to have a laptop that has outlasted two of my husband's PC laptops and survived a full can of Bubly being knocked over it by my cat. Apple has an education discount, and I suppose I could go without a couple of my streaming services for a year. I don't game and I'm not a YouTuber. I think a MacBook Air might be my speed.
What do y'all think?
Follow up: If I do this should I get Apple Care (note, I live NOWHERE near an Apple Store, I'd have to rely on chat or our campus systems guys)? And can someone recommend a cheap wireless mouse?

A1708 Macbook Pro no Backlight Repair due to a failed Flexgate - https://it-solve.au/repair-cases/a1708-macbook-pro-no-backlight-repair-due-to-a-failed-flexgate/
Today we have a MacBook Pro 2018 for a flexgate repair in our Adelaide workshop. Although it’s a 2018 model, it is an absolutely delightful device to work on.
Did you know that the 2018 A1708 was the last Macbook with removable SSD storage? Thats right. The last Macbook allows data to be extracted by connecting the drive to another Macbook when an accident happens. And trust me, these accidents happen all the time. The amount of MacBooks with liquid damage we get daily, where customers want only the data is enormous.
Unfortunately, though, all the data is stored on an encrypted chip which is soldered onto the login board. So how do you get the data? The only options to recover such data are either Macbook Liquid Damage Repair or Macbook Data Recovery. And let me tell you, it’s neither easy nor cheap!
How and Why Macbook Flexgate fail?
Flexgate failure on Macbooks is a well-known issue, where the ribbon cable that carries a backlight voltage crimples and fails.
The ribbon cable that carries the Backlight voltage is very thin, as thin as a printer paper. On top of that with 2016-2018 models, Apple manufactured this cable slightly shorter due to being the first-gen display of its kind. Hence cable criples at the bending rea more than 90* and breaks.
Do I have a failed Flexgate on my Macbook?
An easy way to identify if the flexgate has failed on your Macbook is to check if there is a faint picture on the screen. Flexgate cable carries backlight signals,
no Flexgate = no Backlight
#ITSolveRepairs
How to fix Macbook black screen caused by Flexgate failure?
The flexgate failure on Macbooks is repairable and does not need a complete screen replacement. Although the cost can be slightly over half of the price of a Macbook Screen Replacement in Adelaide.
Unfortunately, fine soldering tools and lots of experience will be required to be able to resolder and extend the cable
IT-Solve specialises in Macbook Repairs in Adelaide, instead of a complete screen replacement, we attempt to repair and extend the cable. That way we are saving a complete screen assembly ending up in the landfill, as well as saving 40% of the cost of a new screen, win-win.
Repairing Flexgate on Macbook Pro in Adelaide
To be able to repair the flexgate on this Macbook in our Adelaide workshop, we had to cut off the bent broken bit and using a 0.1mm fine copper wire (as thin as a human hair) we extended the flexgate cable.
With extended and insulated cable. The backlight on this Macbook will not fail again.
Successful Flexgate Repair on a Macbook Pro in Adelaide
Another successful Macbook Flexgate Repair Adelaide!
These Macbooks are amazing, although have their fail points. They are much more reliable than the new Apple Silicone or T2 versions, which are overengineered and fail for no reason. Especially after a failed software update.
Worthy Macbook and will keep kicking for another couple of years with no issues!

Since starting as an intern in Production (Type/Ebooks), I've figured a few things... 1. Print production is where it's at (in terms of my own interest) - I'd like to gain more printer knowledge though in the upcoming years, and really have a strong knowledge about what's going on in the print shop side since, as right now, I just produce files to the point of sending them away to the printer... Offshoots of that interest are web development and printmaking and whatever else, as print technicians don't make a ton and you've got to mix it with other things, I think. Which is good cuz I like many pieces of the pie. I want to go to grad school in Estonia for Graphic Design (lol - not for the money, but who knows!) but I also wish I could go to the Graphic and Print Production program in Nova Scotia... 2. Little tech gadgets are awesome!!! Before starting, my home set up was literally just a 13 inch MacBook Pro. Which I loved alone. But also I've seen the benefit of adding more to the rotation. So I've got a new Logi POP mouse in the colour Mist and I love it. Ordered a mechanical keyboard and also a cheap little HP 150 wired keyboard. Got a monitor, but want to add a second cheaper one as well. Still need an external hard drive

A Couple of Chill (Some New) Indie Games
I love small, chill indie games. They’re cheap, and the money goes to small developers who needs the support. Many have short gameplay loops, that make them easy to fit into my schedule. Many of the ones I like have non-realtime gameplay, and that, coupled with low hardware demands, makes them well suited for playing on my laptop. That’s an M1 (Pro) MacBook Pro - and many of the games have native Mac ports, but those who don’t run perfectly fine through Parallells.
Two (not very new) realtime games
Vampire Survivors (2022)  is a weird game, that has no rights being as fun and satisfying as it is. so buy it where you prefer!
You walk (slowly) around a big field, while your character auto-attacks. You then pick up experience, new items and upgrades. It shouldn’t work, but it does - and this good video essay by Adam Mallard explains why:
Vampire Survivors Only Works Because We’re Stupid
Platforms:
macOS
Windows
Switch
Xbox
Android
iOS
——
It has spawned tons of knock-offs - but not all of them are good. But Brotato (2023) is! I actually prefer it to Vampire Survivors.
Tumblr media
Platforms:
Windows
Playstation
Switch
Xbox
Android
iOS
The slower stuff
I love board games, and Dot Age (2023) feels like one. It’s a turn based city builder with roguelike progression, built around worker-placement.
Tumblr media
Platforms:
Linux
macOS
Windows
Balatro (2024) is the thousands in the line of games that take something familiar and turn it into a roguelike where you do runs where you try to break the game with combos. This time: Poker!
While perhaps not «beautiful», it drips with style with its CRT filter and screenshake (both possible to turn off). Very chill - but I hope it comes to iPad sometime!
Platforms:
macOS
Windows
With the worst art direction since the amazing Slay The Spire, Backpack battles (2024) is my last recommendation for the day.
In a combination of Backpack Hero and Super Auto Pets, you arrange items in your backpack to (hopefully) win against other players in some asynchronous chibi on chibi action. It also has a demo playable in a browser!
Platforms:
Linux
Windows
I’ll sign off with a bonus tip, to check out the demo of the Norwegian game Seablip (Q2 2024), which looks very promising!

my takeaways:
the ipad and pencil lineups are too complicated to memorize useful information about them; if someone asks me about them I will have to do research from scratch
that being said, the biggest size (13") finally comes in cheap and expensive variants, continuing the pattern started by the iphone 14 plus and 15" macbook air
dual OLED is just the next generation of OLED; the "dual" part is an implementation detail and you need not care about it
dual OLED is more power-efficient, which you absolutely do care about as that's a massive product differentiating factor in a tech ecosystem with few at this point (hence AI being a marketing factor)
I had thought the M4 chip was essentially just an M3 with some chip-manufacturing-industry inside-baseball differences; apparently the M3 is actually an M4 with with some chip-manufacturing-industry inside-baseball differences. (remember, these bullet points are what I care about, not what I think you should care about, reader :D)
changing storage in an ipad quietly affects other specs. if apple does this for the mac (please no), you heard it here first. well, no, you heard it in the iphone first, but it feels more acceptable there.
these prices continue to seem far beyond what any normal person would be happy spending; if you hear that non-cheap-model ipad unit sales are more than minuscule, be surprised. (contrast this with e.g. the us$1200+ iphone 15 pro max, which sells—as far as I know—very well, considering.)
okay those weren't just takeaways; I added a bunch of context ("analysis"?) off the top of my head. which you should probably fact check if it's important, of course, since, like I said, top of my head.

Best Laptops Buying Guide 2024:Which One is best ?
Tumblr media
Laptops Buying Guide Before laptops buying guide, decide on Windows, Mac, or something new. Beyond OS, there are other factors. Does it have your desired screen? Support peripheral ports? Play 1080p+ games? Consider these and other difficulties.
Risks and warnings for 2023 are here. Microsoft Windows 11 and Chrome OS provide more alternatives than MacBooks. See best laptops buying guide brands and read on to select one.
Mac, Windows, or another? Prioritize your OS. Apple and Windows won that struggle, but Chrome OS on cheap PCs is gaining ground.
These devices have similar hardware and functionality but significant variances.
The OS-based PC market is varied. Millions of companies create them, and the designs and names vary in both cost and craftsmanship. Several companies use Windows-based personal computers over enjoyment or business, and they tend to outshine Macs.
Windows computer systems vary in size. Clamshell keyboard-mouse computer systems like the Samsung Surface Laptops are prominent. The lower end Windows interactive laptops without a Track Bar, compared to Apple MacBooks.
The company Surface’s convertible display as well as tablet-keyboard combine harder. Google won’t make an adjustable or retractable MacBook, so its iPad Pro laptop with its magical keyboard is 2-in-1.
Microsoft Windows adapts better than macOS. The gaming and commercial programming standard extends software libraries. Windows gets substantial upgrades with new features biannually, unlike macOS. Chrome OS gets minor updates more regularly due to its loose release schedule.
Windows laptops provide more options than Apple Many Lenovo, Dell, and Microsoft devices exist For trademark protection, Apple has consistently upgraded its products, including MacOS. Apple devices meet its standards, but any manufacturer may produce a Windows or Chrome OS PC with unique features. MacOS are straightforward and trustworthy. Apple’s support staff can swiftly handle issues since they share an ecosystem.
Quality design differentiates Macs. Because they look, feel, and have fantastic screens, particularly with plenty of storage, they cost more than Windows and Chrome OS devices. Very few Apple computers are inexpensive.
Apple computers feature powerful hardware but slower graphics processors than Windows PCs, and you can’t replace parts, so you’re stuck with the specifications you buy. For individuals who want a powerful computer but don’t know much about hardware, their Mac may work well every day. When Apple upgraded to in-house CPUs in late 2020 and 2021, its hardware improved considerably. Macbooks like the MacBook Pro 14 with M2 Max are fast and cheap. The MacBook Pro is better currently for performance and battery life.
The corporation’s simple, intuitive the macOS operating system maintains its design. The platform in question has solid productivity and media-editing apps, unlike Windows. The company Studio Laptop Workshop’s unique designs and graphic pen rival the corporation’s success among designers and artists.
Computers don’t have touchscreens, but Sidecar mode lets you utilize an iPad as a wireless touchscreen.
Chrome OS Mac computers and Windows differ in Chrome OS. The Chrome-based platform was initially concentrated on applications for the internet and pricing. Chrome OS features desktop as well as mobile applications like competitors.
The Google Chrome operating system operates Chromebook. These machines are inexpensive than desktops running Windows and MacBooks due to reduced technology desires. They work well for schools and social media and shopping laptop users.
Powerful Chromebooks like the HP Dragonfly Pro mimic Windows and macOS computers. Both the HP Chromebook x360 14 and Lenovo Duet 5 with OLED displays are two-in-1s.
Chrome OS is faster and more flexible. Although web-centric, the platform now supports Google Play and Android applications, making it the perfect laptop companion for Android users. Chromebook users may converse without phones using its Message-like interface.
Chrome OS runs Linux desktop apps like GIMP and Steam. Linux support is in beta, and the library is less varied than Windows or macOS. Chrome OS’s maturity makes it a strong Windows competitor.
If Chrome OS fulfills your laptop needs, a Chromebook may save money.
Laptop kinds Several laptop categories target certain customers. Choose a laptops buying guide -friendly category. Some of favorites fall under these categories.
Ultrabooks Intel coined the term “ultrabook” for lightweight, long-lasting laptops. Intel Core CPUs, SSDs, and well-designed clamshells. People called any little laptop a “ultrabook” after this renowned device.
Business laptops Business laptops include consumer-friendly features despite targeting professionals. Though less popular, they have better batteries and skins.
High cost is corporate computers’ major drawback. Video editors and photographers benefit from bigger monitors and realistic color. Protecting privacy and security makes them more likely to provide biometric validation and professional software.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 is a great business laptop addition. Preferred work laptop is ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5.
Gaming laptops Gaming laptops must improve. For current games, elite models have powerful CPUs, graphics chips, and RAM. Anything less may make popular games unusable.
Better desktop-like components and bigger displays make high-end gaming laptops heavier. 4K monitors’ power-hungry components deplete batteries. Some of best gaming laptops provide stealth or middle ground.
Gaming has advanced with display technology in this industry. In 2023, the Asus Zephyrus M16 launched mini-LED, and gaming laptops now had OLED for brilliant colors and deep blacks. Gaming laptops include 240Hz and 480Hz displays. Increased refresh rates and components provide smooth, high-speed gaming.

Spontaneous Tokyo shopping
One of the things that made this month’s trip to Japan even more enjoyable was the weak Yen.
Everything was significantly cheaper than on our last visit, back in March. It made food and drink laughably cheap and meant I could pick up a few gifts for family, as well as some clothes, without any guilt.
And even though I wasn’t planning on it at all (honest), I also ended up upgrading my laptop while I was in Tokyo. The combination of tax-free shopping plus the favourable exchange rate meant I saved £400 on a new Macbook Air.
Though I didn’t get it from the Apple Store.
They’ve stopped offering tax-free shopping to visitors, so I ended up going to the much less chic, but much cheaper Yodabashi Camera in Shinjuku. Where the Apple Store is sleek, minimalist and calm, Yodobashi Camera is an overwhelming tsunami of noise and signage that can be quite the assault on the senses.
There, an extremely helpful sales assistant helped me find the right model (with a US keyboard, no UK keyboards were on sale) and I also picked up an iPad Mini for my other half. Combined, they were still cheaper than a single Macbook Air in the UK.
I didn’t even unbox my laptop until the day before flying home, as I was too busy going out and having fun (!!!) but with a couple of days use under my belt, I really like it.
Gone is the annoying touchbar at the top of the keyboard, replaced with real live function keys! The screen is bigger and it’s much, much lighter. And with an M2 chip, it feels quite a lot faster than my MacBook Pro - which has been reset and is now on eBay, waiting to go to a new home.

A lot of ppl say Tim Cook isn’t as innovative as Steve Jobs but I have to disagree bc he was the guy that put AMD graphics on macs and saved the computer industry with them.. he then used that money to make M series processors and now iPhones are competing with game consoles as their replacements and it even has LiDAR to be used in vtubers gaming sessions so they don’t have to own a giant computer in like 3 years. the only thing holding back iPhone is that there’s no streaming app for iOS so ppl still have to have computers which isn’t bad bc you can have a cheap MacBook Pro retina to do the streaming part and that’s only like 200 dollars. so overall if you think about it, Tim Cook not only revolutionized the computer industry he is also eliminating the console and pc industry in favor of mobile game consoles with usb c monitors and tvs or AirPlay and also Apple TVs even have hotel guest modes so any display could be a fully functional game console as long as it supports either of those technologies or they add a usb c port to the back of the next Apple TV even for old tvs that don’t have them.. I actually carry a game controller with me in my backpack all the time bc it’s that easy to game while on the go now.

Release will not take place soon There have been reports online that Apple is about to release a series of lower-end MacBook laptops. The Taiwanese resource DigiTimes, known for its connections with the industrial supply chain, shared the first details. [caption id="attachment_52356" align="aligncenter" width="780"] MacBook[/caption] Apple is preparing a cheap MacBook that can compete with “student” Chromebooks According to industry sources, the new MacBooks are designed to compete with low-cost Chromebooks (laptops based on Chrome OS) in the education sector. The official debut is expected in the second half of 2024.  As DigiTimes notes, the series will likely be separate from the current MacBook Air and Pro lines. The laptops will retain a metal body, but will be made from “different materials” and the cost of mechanical components will be lower.
