request: here
A/N: this is a mess. the plot is like when ur writing an english essay and you let your subconscious mind write it so it ends up splitting into three topics with no context.
TW: throwing up, coarse language
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Last night, I went out again. It isn’t unusual for me and if I get caught it gets me in trouble with Alexia. I’m not even doing anything bad most of the time, just driving around to take the pressure away. What I don’t factor in this time is the fact that we have an early morning session and a late night session. So if hell was a day, this is it.
First, we have a video session discussing tactics. Which is at 7am, then at 6pm we have a field session. Of course when I wasn’t there when Alexia woke up she immediately called me.
“Where are you? Where’s your car and why aren’t you in the house?” She questions clearly annoyed.
“Relax Alexia, I went out on a little drive, I’ll be there for the video session don’t worry.” She’s about to say more but I hang up. I know I won’t hear the end of this but there can’t be too much harm.
Turns out there can be.
I walk inside the room with my mcdonald’s coffee, I’m not the last person there but Alexia is in the room and shoots daggers at me. I shrug my shoulders, moving to sit next to Ingrid.
“Alexia is really mad, what did you do this time?” She asks, looking at me with a slight smirk.
“I went for a drive to clear my mind. I guess it’s illegal to do that now. I got a coffee though.” She wrinkles her face in disgust.
“Out of all the places to get coffee, you choose the worst one? Honestly kid, please find some place better. Staring at that makes me physically sick.” I roll my eyes.
“I was in a hurry and they call it fast food for a reason. Imagine if I was late? I’m already in trouble.” She nods her head in understanding.
“So, any plans for today or are you going to play Hogwarts Legacy all day.”
“I’m going to watch a movie.” I reply.
“The whole day?” She questions confused.
“Well… I never said I was seeing the movie IN Spain.” She sighs pinching the bridge between her nose.
“That’s not a good idea. Why would you do that?”
“Because I hate subtitles and I don’t want the movie to be in Spanish.” I shrug.
“That’s… a good point. If Alexia finds out you’ve left the country again she’s gonna lose it so have fun and make sure not to tell her you told me.” I nod.
“Will do my friend.” I’ve left the country before, one time to Germany where I accidentally met Georgia Stanway and got drunk with her. And the other time was at the UK in which I got into some nasty fights against some sad Arsenal fans. Like yes I was taunting them but no reason to attack me. I won in the end, obviously.
So if Alexia finds out I’ve left again she will be so mad. I focus my attention to the screen in front of us and listen in on what whatever Jona has to say.
- - - - -
After the session, I quickly make my way out of the room and into my car. I’m almost gone but Alexia is right behind me and she bangs on the window. I groan pulling it down.
“Hi Aleeee.”
“Don’t you ‘Hi Ale.’ me. Where have you been and how long? Do not lie to me.” I sigh.
“I went out on a drive around town, it’s so pretty at night, so excuse me if I want to look at it. Now if you must know. I’m on a tight schedule so, may you please move so I can move?” I ask, she reluctantly agrees and steps back allowing me to drive off to the airport.
(this is rlly fast paced but you can imagine whatever movie you want during the time skip)
- - - - -
It’s currently 5pm, I’ve been out all day the flights were only 2 hours and they were cheap. I don’t know why the others think of this stuff. Maybe I’m just Australian though.
I notice my stomach feels off, but it’s probably because I’m dehydrated and haven’t eaten a proper meal all day. Only a large popcorn and 2 packets of skittles.
I arrive at the grounds just in time and walk in with Sandra. I walk over to my area and get changed into the kit, before walking out onto the field with Lucy.
“You alright mate? You’re pale.” She states.
“I’m good, little tired is all.” I can tell she doesn’t believe me but we walk on.
The session is gruelling, high intensity and does not do anything to help what I’m feeling. Alexia has been pushing me harder than anyone else which is annoying and I low-key want to fall to the ground. That would only result in more laps though.
The 1.5 hour session ends, we have dinner which lasts half an hour than another 45 minutes in the gym. Both of which I am not excited for.
I can’t even think of anything when it happens, I feel bile rise up my throat and I just know that I should’ve eaten a proper meal. I make it into the bathroom in the nick of time, spilling my guts into the bowl. Someone is in here holding my tied back hair but I can’t be bothered to find who.
When I finally stop gagging, I flush the toilet and lean against the wall staring in front of me to find Keira.
“You feel any better or do you want to stay here.” She asks, resting her hand on my cheek. I shrug my shoulders as she sighs.
The door opens again and it’s Lucy.
“Oh, there you guys are. What happened?” Lucy turns to Keira.
“I was walking by the bathrooms and heard someone gagging and here she was throwing up.” She nods her head and I go to stand up.
“NO! No, you are not doing that. What if you throw up again? I’m going to get Alexia. Right now.” Lucy says sternly.
“Nooo, get Ingrid instead? Please Lucy.”
“Fine.” She walks out leaving Keira and I alone again.
“Mind telling me what lead to this moment?” I nod, explaining the staying up all night to not eating any proper food.
“That’ll do it. Can’t believe you just got on a flight to London.”
“It’s not even that long, it’s a great way to spend time. It’s like you saying a 45 minute drive is long. That’s how long it takes for me to get to school when I’m in Australia.” She shakes her head.
“Aussies sense of time is so out of whack I’m telling ya!” The door is opened again as Ingrid and Lucy make their way inside.
Ingrid sighs, “What are we going to do with you huh?” I laugh.
“Come on, let’s get you to the medics and then you can go home. I’ll drive your car and before you say anything we will be telling Alexia.” I nod, knowing there’s no escape.
We get to the medical room and Alexia is already there, talking about her knee with one of the physios. She looks over in question, Ingrid pushes me forward while Keira explains everything to the doctor. Who explains for me to eat a proper meal and drink some actual water. Before going to bed to get actual sleep.
Alexia is fuming, muttering many curse words and dragging me out of there. We get our stuff and give my keys to Mapi who nods at the plan of getting my car back home.
- - - - -
We walk through the door and Alexia guides me to the couch.
“I have had enough of this. We need to set some rules ok? You are 16 in a foreign country, you can’t go around to other countries when you fucking feel like it. I don’t care if you didn’t do anything bad but I can’t have you out of this city without me. Got it? As for the night driving, we’ll set a curfew and I expect you to be back by a certain time and you won’t be able to leave until a certain time. I told your parents I’d watch out for you but you are seriously making it hard for me to live up to that.”
“Sorry Ale.” She shakes her head.
“I’m not doing this with you right now. I’m going to make you a proper meal, you will drink 1 litre of water then you are heading straight to bed. No phone, no xbox, nothing until I deem you can be trusted. Am I clear?” I nod, feeling like I was 12 again.
“You might think this is excessive but I care about you. I want you to be safe, I need you to be safe. So please, make it easier for both of us.” Shes pleading now and it makes me feel bad, tears brim at the edge of my eyes and she sits down next to me.
“Amorcita, don’t cry. Por favor.” She rubs my thigh.
“I’m sorry Ale, I didn’t mean to. The night drives just lessen my anxiety about some things, you know. Like therapy.”
“I know, but you can speak to me about it any time if you feel you’re spiraling. Anyone on the team. Don’t do stupid things to get us to notice. Just talk I’m always here.” I sob into her arms, I can feel all the anger she has fade.
“Thanks, this means so much. Again I’m sorry.” She shakes her head.
“Don’t be, but I would like to know why you travelled to England to watch a movie, don’t you hate England?” This has me laughing.
“I mean… I do but in Spain it’s either gonna be in Spanish or have subtitles and I wanted it in English without.” She laughs softly.
“Of course, now how do you feel about Chicken Burgers for dinner? With potato gems.” I nod my head. She gets up and walks into the Kitchen starting to make the food.
Maybe I can start trying, and maybe I am truly cared about more than I thought. This team 🫶.

One of the more surreal things about being in Europe as an American is like —
Okay so travel between countries in Europe is startlingly cheap to an American
Flights and trains within Europe are like. €100. Sometimes less! Between entire countries!
At home, for the same amount of money/time, I’m in a city a lot like my own, just bigger. If I pay twice as much money/time I can be in another country…where the weather is nearly the same and they still speak mostly English. If I fly in the other direction I can be…still in my own country. One state over. (Okay California is big but still)
Like, once a year I fly from Portland, Oregon to Atlanta, Georgia. Round trip, cheapest flights are $450 to $650.
Hell, flying to San Fransisco (one state over!) round trip was nearly $200.
My round trip flights (into Paris, out from Lisbon) for my Camino were nearly $800 and it would’ve been like barely $700 if I hadn’t bought insurance. That is over a week’s income for me.
So in Europe, among people of approximately my own economic class/age, a ton of people are like “oh I love going to [different country with different language and often wildly different climate] for a few weekends every year” because it’s so fast and cheap to go places. Like it’s literally the equivalent in time/money as me going to Seattle for the weekend, from Portland.
And meanwhile when I was in Europe I was just like HOLY SHIT I’M IN EUROPE :O like a fucking country bumpkin seeing the city for the first time lol because I’M IN A TOTALLY DIFFERENT COUNTRY??? WOW!! :D

Bellingham, Wshington
Tumblr media
July 25: So long Bellingham. We didn't see much, but we found a good BBQ restaurant and, most importantly, the peeps at the hotel and FBO were awesome. Gas is a little higher here at $7.20/gal but that'll look cheap compared to the prices farther north.
The first order of business after getting checked into the hotel last night was to find dinner. Shoutout to Big Stick BBQ; I'm a little too far west to find my favorite Eastern NC BBQ, but the brisket was pretty damn good. We spent a couple of hours catching up, comparing notes, and making plans, then went back to the hotel and promptly crashed.
The temperature this morning was a cool 54°. Goodbye sweating, hello down jackets. We had breakfast at the hotel (a big thank you to Danis for taking care of us early) before Jose hauled us to the Fred Meyer and to the airport. Even with shuffling 5 planes up to the pump to fuel up, we were wheels up by a few minutes after 8.
The plan was to go from Bellingham to Ketchikan to refuel before ending up in Juneau, or an alternate location if everything aligned. We skirted Vancouver and followed the Strait of Georgia north until we turned direct to Ketchikan. I've been on, and in, Puget Sound. As stunning as it is from the surface, it's insanely beautiful from the air. With the view of the vast Pacific off to port, especially breathtaking at the 140 mile-wide opening to Queen Charlotte Sound, it was easy to imagine the #NextChapter when we'll be sailing north instead of flying. (or motoring as the Inside Passage makes for terrible sailing)
Although we don't have any real use for them now, I've been teasing the Boy Scout about getting floats. All I could think about as we flew over the island-dotted waters was how sick it would be to look down, pick a spot, and land on the water. Maybe do a few dives off the floats before having lunch and flying off to find the next interesting spot. After today I don't think he needs more convincing.
Tumblr media
The Ketchikan International Airport is located on an island across from the town of Ketchikan, which appears to exist solely to cater to the cruise industry. Like many other towns in Alaska, Ketchikan is not connected to the rest of the world by any kind of road; it's accessible only by water or air. We topped off the tanks (11.29/gal) and continued toward Juneau.
About halfway to Juneau we passed over the community of Wrangell which lies opposite the Stikine River Delta and several glaciers formed from the Stikine Icefield. There are several National Park and State Recreation cabins available but we couldn't see any way to access them short of a boat or a float plane (hey cowboy). Flying over them confirmed they were a no go. What we did find was a multitude of gravel bars which was the perfect excuse to put the new tundra tires to work. For the most part the ground was sandy/gravel and pretty smooth but the big tires made the landings like buttah. After finding a wide gravel bar where we could park and tie down all five planes well off the water, we set up camp in the tree line overlooking the river. A few tried their hand at fishing (no luck) while the rest of us gathered firewood, did a little exploring, and chilled. A little river-bar happy hour soon commenced around the fire while we thought about what freeze dried delicacy would be on the dinner menu.
I should add here that I'm not a boy scout. I grew up sailing, not camping. Tonight's events were the most boy scout shit ever, and it was awesome. More flight-seeing, including glacier flyovers, tomorrow before we head to Juneau for a couple of days. Assuming the local bear population doesn't get rowdy in the middle of the night.

Special Delivery: An Encounter Unlike Any Other
Here is the short story I wrote in conjunction with my music instrumental inspired by the raffle prized I received from @KennyNaga on twitter. Naga!Kenny belongs to @ask-nagakenny Fuzz belongs to me @fuzzrawmuse
Okay, where do I begin?...Oh right! Introductions
My name is Fuzz. I am a wolf-feline hybrid. A musician (well, a guitar noise-generator more so) and troublemaker based in northeast of the grand ol’ US-of-A.
I had decided to try to get a cheap holiday flight to the mid-west by mailing myself from the east coast in a wooden crate and packing peanuts. Turns out you get what you pay for. The plane carrying postage was this old cargo unit from a bygone era scooped up for pennies on the on dollar. The vessel was on the brink of falling apart in mid-flight, and it did… the cargo hatch snapped, door popped open and I was falling out of the sky right. Two thoughts popped into my head:
welp, so much for the free trip to Chicago
and
AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!
The longer in free fall my heart sank further. Had my eyes closed for the whole eternity as I was bracing for impact, until WHOMP! CRACK! BWOSH! THUD! “…wait, I’m still alive?” Despite being rattled around and scratched up, I had survived the crash landing.  Dazed and bemused, I pried open the box and found myself in some tropical jungle area alone only with my trusty guitar and cheap flip phone with a cracked display. “I’m not going to last long out here, especially now that I’ve brought attention myself to any potential predators” little did I know that would be the exact thing that would happen, but by what?
I left the rubble behind, anxiously to find reception to make a distress call so wouldn’t get eaten alive. After wandering aimless for hours (I’d lost count after the first), I couldn’t for the life of me find signal. Not good. Instead, I found a skyscraper-like tree with an enormous trunk and innumerable array of branches. With my feet nearly about to fall off, I decided I needed to take a breather. Hopelessness was setting in:
How am I going to get outta here?...
Too tired to move my legs and on the verge of nervous breakdown. I sat at the base of the big tree, guitar in my hands, plucking away at the strings just trying to calm my nerves. Struggling to find the right notes just to ease the growing tension, knowing nightfall was fast approaching and that I was in unfamiliar zone.
I was so engrossed in the music that I didn’t realize that I was sending vibrations through the tree all the way to the top… then suddenly I heard a deep male voice from above me.
“Well, I didn’t know there would be a concert this evening”
I jolted up from the based. “W-who said that?!”  I was not alone as I thought… “L-look” I stammered, “I-I-I wasn’t trying to cause a racket, I just made a f-few wrong turns and just-“
“Racket? What you were playing sounded pretty good to me” The voice interjected.
“wait, really?”
Who was this? It sounded like some aristocratic I would’ve run into down in Georgia, but there was a warm, welcoming quality when he spoke that made me feel more at ease. For all I’ve known, this guy could be trying to sell me snake oil out in the jungle.
“Would love to have up here to hear more your musssic~”
Weird, that sounded like hissi-
Before I could finish that thought, a long snake tail had descended from the tree and wrapped firmly around my waist.
“w-WOaH!!” barely keep hold of my six-string as I was hoisted up into the tree. The anxiety creeping back in.  Oh, dear Neptune, what have I gotten myself into? …And yet the ascent was not forceful, whatever had abducted me had me secure in its coils and was lifting me steadily without rapid momentum.  I couldn’t tell if this was an elaborate trap from a mastermind predator or a benevolent invitation from an eccentric host. Amid the inner turmoil of uncertainty, the higher I was lifted I was able to see sunset over the whole tropical jungle. For a moment, it was serine and peaceful…
Then I was about to see who or what had plucked me from the jungle floor as I was brought through the foliage up onto the thickest branch. There to greet me was something I couldn’t have imagine being real…
“Apologies for not properly introducing myself”
One half a broad muscular human with long flowing copper locks, pronounced nose and chin. The other, gigantic serpent.
“My name is Kenny” the naga said while gently setting me down onto the tree branch.
“F-Fuzz” I stammered, in awe and ‘dear in headlight’ terror “my n-name is Fuzz.”
“Well nice to meet you face to face” Kenny said with a friendly smile as he extended his arm out to shake my hand.
“So what brings you here?” he asked as I shook his hand.
“Oh um, well I…” So I told the naga how I ended up here. He listened with interest as I detailed the series of events, made me feel less anxious the more I talked.
“Good heavens!” Kenny exclaimed “So that was the loud crash I heard earlier today. That seems like lot of effort for a not-so pleasant trip, hope you aren’t too hurt.” Most of my times in peril, people would assume the worst of me and actively avoid me. I would have to shrug it off and move on. So, it was really weird that to hear genuine concern from a creature that dwarfs me in size, not knowing for certain if would become his next meal.
“Yeah,” I sheepishly replied trying to play it off my turbulent journey, “I have been through worse, all in the name of rock n’ roll, haha.”
As I dryly laughed, I felt the adrenaline wore off, and I was beginning to feel the soreness all over my body.
“You must be exhausted after such a long day,” Kenny remarked as he saw me rubbing my neck.
“I mean,-“ I tried to interject but I had to relent  “…yeah, it’s been kinda of stressful day to put it lightly.”
“Perhaps I could help alleviate you stressssss, Fuzz?” He proposed
“H-how?” I asked nervously trying to save face, not knowing what was to happen next.
“Are you some kind of hypnotist?” I asked half-jokingly. I saw a mischievous grin form across Kenny’s expression “Well…” he said “I have somewhat of an expertise when it comes to hypnosis”
I felt the blood drain from my face, I knew it. I was done for. I was going to be put under and swallowed whole. “Well it’s b-been a niiiiice visit,” I said, shakily getting up from the branch “but I really must go.” As I tried to make my escape, I glanced down realizing that I was up a good a hundred feet from the ground. Vertigo nearly made me fall off, so I looked back up to see Kenny still deviously smiling back at me. This I exactly where this naga wanted me for easy picking. I closed my eyes in fear with my back against the tree.
“W-w-wait!” I pleaded, with my eyes shut firmly holding onto my guitar for dear life, “don’t eat me, please! I’m just fur and bones.”
I was bracing for the strike… nothing happened. There was a pause, then a deep chuckle from Kenny
“Eat you?” he said, “I’m not going to do that, I wouldn’t get to hear your music again.”
“Then what are you going to do with me?” I asked tensely.
“I just want to help,’ Kenny said tenderly, as he gently took the guitar out of my hands. Now with my arms covering my eyes still unsure of what was going to happen. I felt his hands caress my face, which slightly surprised me but strangely didn’t oppose. Lord what is coming over me?
“You deserve to get some resssssst” he said into my ear, sending shivers up my spine.
 “How s-s-so?” I stuttered.
“Let me look at you” Kenny’s voice drenched in honey “so you can sssee what I have to offer.”
Cautiously, I lowered my arms and slowly opened my right eye to see Kenny right in front of me, but now his eyes were now blooming rings of blue, yellow, orange, green, blue, yellow, orange, green, blue, yellow… I was caught in his gaze each passing second. Unsure of what was exactly happening, I felt each color washing over my worried mind with a calming warmth and coolness. As the rings grew stronger in my head (blue, yellow, orange, green…) the tension in my neck and shoulders began to wane. I start to feel something at my legs. Something slowly wrapping around my body steadily coiling from up my waist to my chest. Kenny was forming rings of colors in my head and rings of coils of his long tail around my body.
“Looks like you’re starting to ssssee,” his voice echoing a deep tranquility into me, “how’s about we get both eyes, if you pleassssse.”
At this point, I slightly dazed smile forming along the edges of my face.  I was a mumbling, repeating back a few odd words, syllables, noises back whilst in my trance-like state. Feeling his coils encapsulate my body             “hngg, mmh,” I replied “Ke-Kenny, it feels so good, so go—” before I could finish, Kenneth’s tail completed wrapping around my collarbone and easing over the last trace of my neck. Giving one last tender squeeze around my whole body, opening my left eye exposing it to the rest of Kenny’s hypnotic gaze, sending my mind into intense bliss. With both eyes reflecting the ever-changing colors of Kenny’s and his scaley tender touch, I had succumbed to his sensual embrace over my whole being. He spoke gently into my ear as my eyes slowly began to shut
 “Ssssee you in the morning…”
I awoke to a calm morning atop in the jungle, snug in coil cocoon. It was the best sleep I had in a while.
“Ah, good morning, Fuzz” Kenny said, “did you sleep well?”
“Mhmm?” I sleepily hummed “you could say that.”
He and I both chuckled, then Kenny offered to fetch some fruit for breakfast before. I happily accepted as I stretched my arms from out of his coils to go and offered to help Kenny.  As we went scrounging, Kenny proposed to drop me off by a jungle expedition he saw just north of here to get me back home
“You know,” I replied “I wouldn’t mind staying for another day. After all, I still owe you a proper concert for the hospitality you gave”
Kenny smiled “That can be arranged~” he said as he gave a warm grin back to me.
I would’ve stayed longer, but I had to get back to my stomping grounds. I recorded as much of music I remember hearing during that fateful day, it’s still a little blurry in details, but the feelings I had are all there.
One day I’ll have to make a return trip to this jungle, minus the crash landing. I’m sure I’d be able to find Kenny again, I know just what to play to get his attention. If he doesn’t mind me as a repeat guest. Somehow, I think that’s exactly what he wants…

In Georgia it is awful. My city, Athens, is an hour east of Atlanta.
We have been begging for 30 years to have a short rail connection to the MARTA station 50 miles away in Doraville. It would let us get to the ATL airport without having to take a bus, car, or van. It would let us go to museums, the zoo and the aquarium, and to visit family and friends, without having to use a car. It would free up thousands of cars of traffic from people who commute along that corridor daily.
And the NIMBYs in Gwinnett county keep saying no.
The good news is we're now part of a long term high speed rail plan, finally, but this train line probably won't be built before I'm dead. (This particular line would also let me visit my in-laws in SC without having to use a car on I-85; they could pick us up at the Greenville-Spartanburg airport 5 miles from their house. It would be a bidirectional train for us from Athens at least twice a month, and that's not even touching on being able to go to Charlotte for a weekend!)
I want this so bad. The gas to get to Dunwoody Station (to take the train to the airport) in my car is about $30 round trip. The parking at Dunwoody station is $5 a day. MARTA from Dunwoody to the airport is $5 round trip, per person. So a weekend trip that involves a plane flight is at minimum $50 for two people by car, and goes up from there if we stay longer. That's the cheapest, most hassle option. There are more expensive, less hassle options (van ride to the airport for $120 round trip per person, or airport parking itself for $10/day minimum.)
NOT TO MENTION THAT I HAVE TO DRIVE ON I-85 AND/OR I-285 HELLSCAPES IN THE CURRENT CHEAP SCENARIOS.
If I could get a train ticket to the airport, round trip, for a reasonable rate ($50-75 per person would be swell for high speed) and it could get me there in about an hour, and I could avoid I-85 entirely, I'd pay it in a heartbeat.

I don't think people in the Northeast realize how bad the transit is outside the Northeast. Like let's say you live in Cincinnati and want to visit a friend in Louisville. These 2 cities are about 90 miles apart as the crow flys. Your only options are to drive, take one of 3 daily busses from Greyhound and Baron busses, or fly.
In comparison, if you wanted to get from Baltimore to Philadelphia which are about the same distance, you get 17 daily busses from Flixbus, Megabus, Greyhound, and Peterpan Busses as well as 36 amtraks
