Ch-ch-changes in the deep

We tend to think of the deep seafloor as being cold, dark, and unchanging. But only the first two are correct. A 30-year study off the California coast has revealed dramatic fluctuations in deep-sea animal communities. Despite decades of research, scientists are still not sure what drives these changes.  

MBARI marine ecologist Ken Smith has led research efforts at Station M— a deep-sea study site about 220 kilometers (137 miles) west of the Central California coast and 4,000 meters (13,100 feet) below the surface.  By using seafloor cameras, landers, core samplers, sediment traps, and a variety of underwater robots, the researchers have collected a detailed, long-term record of changes in these communities. Hey, everyone!! So, there’s 2 things I have to put out there: (1) Thanks for all the recent likes. It truly means ALOT to me. ♥ And, (2) Right now, I’m in the process of editing the direction of the simblr. BIG changes will be happening. This simblr was originally made to share/showcase the Black family, but I play with other families too. And, sometimes I see TS3CC or posts that I want to reblog, but feel like it doesn’t fit the theme (because of it being solely focused on the Blacks) and just won’t work with the simblr. This year was a tough one. I somehow got through breaking my foot and having surgery. I quit my job as an adjunct instructor because it was killing me. I applied to my favorite antique mall on a whim. Got that job. Met a million new people who have made my life much better. Finally feel happy-ish. Tomorrow I do the last walkthrough of my new house and Wednesday we sign the papers and I get the keys. I’m looking forward to what 2019 will bring! Fitter. Happier. It's almost Christmas and I'm in the spirit so here is a nice flashback for this lovely Friday. Here I am 7 years ago - I was only 18. I look at this picture and it's baffling...
