In ~2005 when I was 7, I was watching some random TV channel when they started showing this guy
Tumblr media
They told me his name was Chaz, he was the kid of some singer I'd never heard of (I would eventually fall in love with Cher, as is queer tradition), and he was trans. I didn't know what that meant, but for some reason, I kept remembering him at random points throughout my life. Then, in 2020, when tiktok made something trans click in my brain, I finally understood why Chaz had kept barging into my memory.
He was the first trans person I ever learned about; he is happy, he is thriving, and he is my gateway into this world.
Tumblr media
In 2023, he is still happy, he is still thriving, and he is still an inspiration to me. And every so often I google him just to make sure he's doing well. Thank you, Chaz.

Up Your Geek puts a spotlight on actor and producer Chaz Bono (yes, that Chaz Bono), who stars in Tubi Original “Bury the Bride” from director Spider One and co-writer Krsy Fox. For those unfamiliar with Spider One, he is the founder of Rock Band “Powerman 5000,” which the name attributes to his love for comics and the Marvel super-hero Powerman. Spider One is also the younger brother of musician…

Why do so many people feel the need to deadname Chaz? The article itself deadnames him. And some of the comments are just plain rude.
I wish the best of luck to Chaz and all his endeavors.

Bury the Bride
Tumblr media
Don’t you just hate it when you anticipate what seems the perfect ending to a film, and it doesn’t happen? That’s not to deride Spider One’s BURY THE BRIDE (2023, Tubi), which is a big improvement over his earlier ALLEGORIA (2022). It’s a well-structured, entertaining horror tale with a twist on the women-stalked-in-an-isolated setting plot. June (Scout Taylor-Compton) has taken her bridesmaids to a remote desert cabin owned by her fiancé (Dylan Rourke) for their bachelorette weekend. How bad an idea is this? It starts out with complaints about the location, the bad smell and the dysfunctional hot tub along with a lot of interpersonal angst. The disparate group doesn’t really get along, and several question June’s marrying a man so quickly when they’ve never so much as seen a picture of him. Then Rourke shows up with his redneck friends (including Chaz Bono, who’s turning into a decent character actor). That’s the first bad surprise. The second is that they’re all vampire, and this is how they get their prey. The rest of the film is about the women trying to escape with their lives. The film has its own vampire mythology. Crosses don’t hurt them, and they can go into the sun for short periods. But they can be killed with regular weapons and prolonged exposure to sunlight. The property is also unhallowed ground, so if they choose to bury their victims there, they’ll come back as vampires. The film sets up a culture clash that never quite develops, and you can tell how it’s going to end, though I wish it had gone further (if you see it, we can discuss it in private). But the banter among the party guests is clever and often believable. The five actresses are pretty good, even if the parts are written as broad types. And the final girl has one of the great final girl lines: “Die slowly!” Be warned, the film is both profane and bloody. But it’s also quite enjoyable.
