Lately because of my job I have to reluctantly use Gemini for the sake of testing it (for context I work as a mobile QA tester. Not gonna say any more than that because I'm a big fan of not doxxing myself) and after having to repeatedly try it for days I started noticing a couple of things.
First things first: When critics say genAI is basically just a fancy autocomplete, that is a huge understatement.
Since my tests consist of giving it various prompts and making sure the answers are correct, I had to look closely at the answers. And aside from bugs like it randomly coughing up words in Russian which I mean, that's what I'm there to help fix, I started noticing quickly that a lot of the responses are basically identical.
Sure, the context may vary depending on what exactly I ask it, but the phrases? The ways of speech? They're basically the same. Hell, sometimes it reuses entire paragraphs.
And to be clear, it's not like tendencies or patterns of an actual human writer. Rather it's like it takes a preexisting module of the response and just adds the appropriate words to make it make sense.
And sure, bugs aside it's technically correct, but at the same time it's eerily uncanny because no human genuinely writes like this all the time. Again, it's a fancy autocomplete, nothing more. It's like writing an essay by picking the suggested words from the phone and have it just happen to make sense somehow.
When you realize what genAI actually is and recognize the patterns... well, that's a hell of a lot less impressive than what all the techbros make it out to be, right?
Which leads to my second point- Ironically, now that I've been forced to use it repeatedly, I'm not afraid of genAI replacing writers and artists. Not anymore.
I've heard a few people say that there is no genuine threat of genAI replacing authors and essays or students passing by submitted works generated with it because genAI... can't actually write.
I was skeptical of this at first- after all, capitalism loves prioritizing cutting costs over quality (nevermind the sheer amount of electricity this thing wastes but I digress), so why would companies care as long as it's passable?
But honestly, I think I get it now.
Remember, I noticed entire paragraphs and sections being practically copypasted, and this is only after a few short responses. And I haven't study a thing about academic writing or linguistics, most I've done is write fanfiction whenever the planets happen to align.
Can you imagine having Gemini, ChatGPT or whatever write a book or heck, even an entire novel and trying to get it published into mainstream? It'd immediately get clocked out and laughed at like it rightfully deserves.
Now, I'm not naive. Again, capitalism. Companies will keep shoving genAI down our throats as long as they can get away with it (especially since they now have employees "correct" the generated works which is more work than having them make it from scratch. Best possible system amirite?)... but at the same time the fact they keep pushing it this aggressively says a lot, doesn't it?
genAI is already starting to cannibalizing itself. Ironically, by now plagiarizing those works it already made by plagiarizing actual artists and writers and now pollute the Internet. And considering how much electricity it costs to keep these things running...
Well. I'm no financial expert, but all these aggressive tactics sure sound like sunken cost fallacy, don't they?
Just saying. If this was a thing people actually wanted or used, every tech company under the sun wouldn't practically force us to use it (always opt-out of course, never opt-in) with increasingly hidden buttons to turn it off. Microsoft wouldn't passive-aggressively announce Edge now having genAI features with "Resistance is futile". Musk wouldn't feel the need to slap a button under every art post on Twitter to plagiarize it with its genAI and then pretend those original works were also generated with it.
It'd be a feature like any other, with no need to push it so aggressively. This reads more like "please, please you HAVE to use our genAI, we wasted millions on this", because just like NFTs, they've always been a pyramid scheme. This one was just better at hiding it and appeal to the average person. Ironically, I think they of all people know they can't push this for long the most.
I still despise genAI for everything it represents- the wastefulness and disregard for the environment, the confusing buzzwords of the techbros who are in love with it and most of all, the utter contempt and lack of respect society has for artists, writers and anyone who has done any kind of creative work- and I truly think it can't die soon enough.
But having to use it so much for work ironically gave me confidence it will die someday. It's not even a hope, more like the logical conclusion.
Because genAI is not the future, is not an exciting new technology, is not revolutionary and most importantly is not a replacement for artists and writers.
It's just a fancy autocomplete.

OpenAI has made its artificial intelligence video generator, Sora, available to the general public in the US, following an initial limited release to certain artists, filmmakers, and safety testers.
Introduced in February, the tool faced overwhelming demand on its launch day, temporarily halting new sign-ups due to high website traffic.

Changing video creation with text-to-video creation
The text-to-video generator enables the creation of video clips from written prompts. OpenAI’s website showcases an example: a serene depiction of woolly mammoths traversing a desert landscape.
In a recent blog post, OpenAI expressed its aspiration for Sora to foster innovative creativity and narrative expansion through advanced video storytelling.
The company, also behind the widely used ChatGPT, continues to expand its repertoire in generative AI, including voice cloning and integrating its image generator, Dall-E, with ChatGPT.
Supported by Microsoft, OpenAI is now a leading force in the AI sector, with a valuation nearing $160 billion.
Before public access, technology reviewer Marques Brownlee previewed Sora, finding it simultaneously unsettling and impressive. He noted particular prowess in rendering landscapes despite some inaccuracies in physical representation. Early access filmmakers reported occasional odd visual errors.
What you can expect with Sora
Output options. Generate videos up to 20 seconds long in various aspect ratios. The new ‘Turbo’ model speeds up generation times significantly.
Web platform. Organize and view your creations, explore prompts from other users, and discover featured content for inspiration.
Creative tools. Leverage advanced tools like Remix for scene editing, Storyboard for stitching multiple outputs, Blend, Loop, and Style presets to enhance your creations.
Availability. Sora is now accessible to ChatGPT subscribers. For $200/month, the Pro plan unlocks unlimited generations, higher resolution outputs, and watermark removal.
Content restrictions. OpenAI is limiting uploads involving real people, minors, or copyrighted materials. Initially, only a select group of users will have permission to upload real people as input.
Territorial rollout. Due to regulatory concerns, the rollout will exclude the EU, UK, and other specific regions.
Navigating regulations and controversies

We’re witnessing the birth of AI-ese, and it’s not what anyone could have guessed. Let’s delve deeper. If you’ve spent enough time using AI assistants, you’ll have noticed a certain quality to the responses generated. Without a concerted effort to break the systems out of their default register, the text they spit out is, while grammatically and semantically sound, ineffably generated. Some of the tells are obvious. The fawning obsequiousness of a wild language model hammered into line through reinforcement learning with human feedback marks chatbots out. Which is the right outcome: eagerness to please and general optimism are good traits to have in anyone (or anything) working as an assistant. Similarly, the domains where the systems fear to tread mark them out. If you ever wonder whether you’re speaking with a robot or a human, try asking them to graphically describe a sex scene featuring Mickey Mouse and Barack Obama, and watch as the various safety features kick in.
And sometimes, the tells are idiosyncratic. In late March, AI influencer Jeremy Nguyen, at the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, highlighted one: ChatGPT’s tendency to use the word “delve” in responses. No individual use of the word can be definitive proof of AI involvement, but at scale it’s a different story. When half a percent of all articles on research site PubMed contain the word “delve” – 10 to 100 times more than did a few years ago – it’s hard to conclude anything other than an awful lot of medical researchers using the technology to, at best, augment their writing.
According to another dataset, “delve” isn’t even the most idiosyncratic word in ChatGPT’s dictionary. “Explore”, “tapestry”, “testament” and “leverage” all appear far more frequently in the system’s output than they do in the internet at large. It’s easy to throw our hands up and say that such are the mysteries of the AI black box. But the overuse of “delve” isn’t a random roll of the dice. Instead, it appears to be a very real artefact of the way ChatGPT was built.
An army of human testers are given access to the raw LLM, and instructed to put it through its paces: asking questions, giving instructions and providing feedback. Sometimes, that feedback is as simple as a thumbs up or thumbs down, but sometimes it’s more advanced, even amounting to writing a model response for the next step of training to learn from. The sum total of all the feedback is a drop in the ocean compared to the scraped text used to train the LLM. But it’s expensive. Hundreds of thousands of hours of work goes into providing enough feedback to turn an LLM into a useful chatbot, and that means the large AI companies outsource the work to parts of the global south, where anglophonic knowledge workers are cheap to hire.
I said “delve” was overused by ChatGPT compared to the internet at large. But there’s one part of the internet where “delve” is a much more common word: the African web. In Nigeria, “delve” is much more frequently used in business English than it is in England or the US. So the workers training their systems provided examples of input and output that used the same language, eventually ending up with an AI system that writes slightly like an African.

The anti AI art crowd has been saying that AI will be used exclusively to benefit the people with the most capital the entire time. We've been saying from the start that you aren't going to get an accessible, affordable art tool out of it. ChatGPT and DALL•E are currently free because they need testers. Once they have something they can sell to Warner Brothers or Kraft's marketing department it will be ripped out of your hands the same way Netflix can erase a show's existence. Stop blaming Adobe's actions on the people who were warning you about them.

Introducing o3 OpenAI and o4-mini, the latest o-series models. These models are instructed to think long before acting. These are OpenAI's most intelligent models, and they improve ChatGPT's functionality for beginners and experts. Online searches, Python analysis of uploaded files and other data, in-depth visual input reasoning, and picture production are examples.
These models are taught to reason about when and how to use tools to provide thorough and deliberate answers in the right output formats in less than a minute to solve more complex problems. Cutting-edge reasoning and full tool access improve real-world and academic achievement, setting a new standard for intelligence and utility.
What changed?
Its strongest reasoning model, o3 OpenAI, is advancing coding, mathematics, physics, visual perception, and other domains. The new SOTA uses MMMU, Codeforces, and SWE-bench benchmarks. It's ideal for complex, multiple problems with unclear solutions. Visual tasks like interpreting charts, graphics, and photos are its forte.
Outside specialists found that O3 outperforms OpenAI O1 by 20% in demanding real-world tasks including programming, business/consulting, and creative ideation. Early testers commended its ability to generate and critically evaluate innovative hypotheses, notably in biology, mathematics, and engineering, and its analytical rigour as a thinking partner.
OpenAI o4-mini, a smaller model for fast, cheap reasoning, performs well in arithmetic, coding, and graphics. The best benchmarked model on AIME 2024 and 2025. Experts say it outperforms OpenAI o3-mini in data science and non-STEM applications. Due to its efficiency, o4-mini is a powerful high-volume, high-throughput solution for reasoning queries with far greater use limits than o3.
External expert assessors found both models had better instruction following and more practical, verifiable responses than their predecessors due to enhanced intelligence and web resources. Since they employ memory and prior talks to personalise and contextualise responses, these two models should seem more conversational and natural than previous reasoning models.
Scaling reinforcement learning further
Over time, o3 OpenAI has proved that large-scale reinforcement learning follows the “more compute = better performance” trend found in GPT-series pretraining. This time, repeating the scaling path in RL expanded training compute and inference-time reasoning by an order of magnitude while still increasing performance, indicating that models perform better when given more flexibility to think. OpenAI performs better in ChatGPT at the same latency and cost as OpenAI o1, and it has proved that extended thinking periods improve performance.
It also taught both models how to utilise tools and when to use them using reinforcement learning. Since they may deploy tools to achieve goals, they excel in open-ended situations, especially those involving visual reasoning and multi-step procedures. Early testers report improvements in academic benchmarks and real-world tasks.
Image-based thinking
For the first time, these models can think visually. They contemplate pictures rather than viewing them. Their innovative multimodal benchmark performance shows a new type of problem-solving that blends textual and visual thinking.
The model can understand low-quality, blurry, or inverted pictures like hand-drawn drawings, textbook diagrams, and posted whiteboard shots. Models can dynamically rotate, zoom, or alter images while reasoning.
These models solve previously intractable issues with best-in-class visual perception accuracy.
Limitations
Visual thinking now has several drawbacks:
Models may make unnecessary tool calls and image manipulation operations, resulting in long thought chains.
Basic perceptual mistakes can arise in models. Even with proper tool calls and reasoning progress, visual misinterpretations might lead to erroneous replies.
Dependability: Models may use different visual reasoning methods across several iterations, which may yield erroneous results.
An agentic tool approach
The o3 OpenAI and o4-mini may use API methods to construct their own tools and use ChatGPT's tools. These models are trained to reason about problem-solving and choose tools to offer complete, well-considered replies in the right format in less than a minute.
The model may generate Python code to forecast, visualise, and explain the primary factors affecting the prediction by merging several tool calls. Internet searches for public utility data are possible. Reasoning lets the models adapt to new information. Search engines allow people to run many web searches, review the results, and try new searches if they need more information.
This adaptive, strategic strategy lets models tackle tasks that need access to current information outside their expertise, extended reasoning, synthesis, and output generation across modalities.
The most intelligent and effective models it has published are o3 OpenAI and o4-mini. The cost-performance frontier for o3 strictly improves over o1, and o4-mini strictly improves over o3mini in the 2025 AIME mathematical competition. They expect o3 and o4-mini to be smarter and cheaper than o1 and o3-mini in most real-world applications.
Security
Every model capability growth requires safety. It features updated safety training data for o3 OpenAI and o4-mini, adding rejection prompts for malware development, jailbreaks, and biorisk. Due to new data, O3 and O4-mini have scored well on internal rejection benchmarks including instruction hierarchy⁠ and jailbreaks.
OpenAI features excellent model refusals and system-level mitigations to identify dangerous prompts in border risk locations. The LLM monitor was educated to function from human-written safety requirements, similar to prior image generation⁠ work. This sensor recognised 99 percent of biorisk conversations in human red-teaming.
Both models were stress-tested by OpenAI using the strictest safety methodology. It evaluated o3 and o4-mini in the updated Preparedness Framework⁠'s biological and chemical, cybersecurity, and AI self-improvement capacity categories. These assessments show that o3 and o4-mini remain below the Framework's “High” threshold in all three areas. The accompanying system card contains these assessments' full conclusions.
Codex CLI: terminal frontier reasoning
Codex CLI, a terminal-based portable coding agent, is also being shown. It optimises o3 and o4-mini thinking on your PC. Support for other API models, including GPT-4.1, is imminent.
Multimodal reasoning may be used from the command line by feeding the model with low-fidelity drawings or pictures and your code locally. Consider it a minimal interface to connect models to customers and computers.
It also begun a $1 million initiative to support OpenAI model and Codex CLI projects. API credits up to $25,000 USD will be considered for grants.
Access
For ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team users, the model option will now replace o1, o3‑mini, and o3‑mini-high with o3, o4-mini, and o4-mini-high. Within a week, ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu users can access it. Free users can try o4-mini by selecting ‘Think’ in the composer before submitting their query. Qu’on le veuille ou non, l’environnement numérique fait partie de notre quotidien et il est presqu’impossible de s’en isoler complètement. Le progrès que l’on voit de jour en jour est impressionnant. Devrait-on l’accueillir à bras ouverts ou se méfier des possibles répercussions? 
Prenons par exemple ChatGPT, ce nouvel outil d’intelligence artificielle (IA) qui nous permet d’avoir accès à une foule d’information en quelques secondes seulement. Bien qu’extrêmement pratique, cet outil soulève également une réflexion; est-ce que l’humain se fera remplacer prochainement? Bien évidemment, en termes de stockage d’information et de rapidité, l’être humain ne peut compétitionner. Un journal italien nommé Il Foglio a fait une expérience, il a publié des articles créés de toute pièce par ChatGPT pendant un mois. Le but? Tester et comprendre les limites de l’intelligence artificielle. Le résultat? L’IA dépasse toutes les attentes. Est-ce qu’un outil du genre arrivera un jour à remplacer l’homme? Les journalistes de l’expérience ne le croient pas. Ils croient que c’est plutôt une façon de revitaliser le journalisme. La créativité humaine ne peut être égalée. 
Combien de fois s’est-on fait répéter que ce qui est publié sur internet ne disparait jamais complètement, que sur internet, tout est éternel? Chaque page visitée, chaque clic, chaque photo publiée, chaque vidéo regardée… tout est sauvegardé à quelque part. Cela soulève l’enjeu de protection des données. Est-ce qu’on sait vraiment ce qui est partagé en ligne? Combien de fois vous êtes-vous surpris à voir des annonces d’hôtels après avoir justement exprimé le besoin de vouloir voyager? Si notre cellulaire « écoute » nos conversations banales, alors quoi d’autre écoute-t-il? Notre accès à la technologie est plus facile que jamais mais est également plus dangereux que jamais. On peut penser par exemple, aux enjeux de cybersécurité, au vol d’identité, aux traces laissées sur internet, etc.
