I am currently studying my masters degree in library studies. My aim is to one day be a librarian.
And believe me - the number of times I have had to explain to people that, yes, you need a masters to be a librarian, and no, a librarian is not someone who just issues and returns books - is highly frustrating.
My bachelors in English Literature got me onto the Masters. My Masters degree will let me BEGIN to work towards Chartership. Only then will I be able to apply to be a librarian.
as someone with a bachelor’s degree in english, i am inexpressibly tired of people telling me to get highly specific jobs that often require highly specific degrees. “just go write for a magazine!” you need a journalism degree for that. “just teach!” you need a teaching certificate, and also fuck you. “just go work at a tutoring place!” tutoring children with learning disabilities, which make up the majority of the clientele at those places, requires not only a teaching certificate but a specialized master’s degree. “just go work at a library!” you need a master’s degree in library science to be a librarian. it is actually a highly skilled and extremely competitive field. you don’t just “go work at a library,” you train for years in the vain hope that you will get one of handful of available jobs. “just go work at a library.” the nerve. the unmitigated gall. “just go work at a library.” ugh.

Hello! I wanted to receive some messages regarding my career, if you’re still doing free readings- I’ve been trying to find a job in my field for almost a year now but to no avail. I’m honestly running out of time since we also need work to acquire charterships that help us be recognised. I’ve also considered a PhD but have no way of securing funding. Honestly I’m tired and drained by all this and it’s causing me a mental and spiritual strain. So any messages would be great.
Thankyou

You’ll be happy to know I’m still a hot mess. Throwing Wobblies and shit and going to bed because sometimes it’s the only way to be. Eugh. Why can’t I just pull myself together? I’m an adult with some iota of sense but yet the brain just won’t let it go.
Anyways, things are moving in the right direction at least with mom and the chartership. Let’s see if I can hit the aug submission date 🖊️
Let’s also see what the Jeff is going on in sept with his job. 🇬🇧 or 🇺🇸. Bed pls

Bogs blog 47
Hello, it is me again!
It is my last day of work at Tilsley Engineering and since I no longer have any jobs on, I decided that I could take on the blog this week. Benoit will be back with a lot of news and photos in two weeks time when we get back from our holiday. On Saturday morning we will be jumping on a plane and heading to Nelson to start a 5 day Great Walk in the Abel Tasman and then spending a week exploring the Nelson area with Mum and Dad for a bit before going back to work/starting my new job. We are all looking forward to the experience, of both the walk and the chance to explore a place we are considering calling home! However, I will not get ahead of myself, and I will let Benoit do the explaining once we get back!
After our very busy weekend working on the tiny house, it was actually quite nice to head back to work. On Monday morning, as usual, I headed down to Te Aroha for the last time. I have been going there for the last year and it was with a heavy heart that this was to be the last time that I go down to Te Aroha and spent two days with my team. On Monday evening we all went to the pub for a final night of drinks. I thought being a Monday night, I might be able to get away with buying everyone a round and then heading back to the motel for a nice quiet evening as usual. But since the boys the chivalrous, because I bought a round, they too all bought rounds, so three pints and a glass of bubbles later I was stumbling back to my motel for some much-needed sustenance of the non-liquid kind. It was a hard morning on Tuesday, waking up feeling less than ideal, however after two cold showers and a morning run, I felt ready to focus on the day.
The rest of my week went smoothly, I finished up my jobs by Thursday and spent my Friday helping out interns with jobs and enjoying the last 10-minute commute for the foreseeable future. Despite my desire to learn more and become a more accomplished engineer, I am nervous about my decision, new job, the lack of work life balance and the commute. Needless to say, I know there are always doubts when change is in the future, and I have changed jobs before, but this will be the first time that I have left a job for a reason other than moving countries.
Am I doubting myself? Yes.
Will I be moving to a company where there is more potential for growth? Yes
Do I welcome the 3 hour commute? No
Will my work life balance be improved? No
Will it be good to work away from my mum? Probably
Will I be able to get my chartership faster? Most likely
So very very on the fence at the moment. But I hope after a few months, Benoit and I will have settled into a routine of waking up very early and getting home later, fitting our sport into the gaps between working, traveling and sleeping and hopefully being generally happier at home. I will report back in a few months with an update of my work life balance, how I am enjoying the new lifestyle and if I think I made the right decision. I have decided to give myself two years to really try it out, and then if its not a perfect fit, then maybe it will be time to move down to Nelson!
I am posting this Friday night, as Saturday morning we are heading to the airport. So a short week followed by a short blog. Much love to all our Belgian family and a big shout out to Nanie for her birthday this week. We were thinking of you and raised our glasses in a cheers for your birthday in NZ!
Love Kate

Landscape Drawing Arizona
It is another usual day in the office. We sit down after 40 minutes of commuting, in front of the computer loaded with 150 unread emails, a few unresponded meeting requests. We then take a sip of freshly-brewed coffee before we start drawing a series of polylines in CAD to finish a planting plan, typing up a LVIA report and then rush between meetings to solve a retaining wall issue on site.
Does this sound familiar?
Admittedly, this is probably a snapshot of how we work in the office but is that how people perceive us working as landscape architects?
Recently, I came across an article “The TOP 10 Qualities of Great Landscape Architects” in Land8.
This made me reflect on what qualities make a good landscape architect. I always think about how to make a good design but the personal qualities that make a good landscape architect are equally important. Realising that the Landscape Drawing Arizona profession has a wide spectrum, the below may not fully resonate with all backgrounds but I hope they form a useful reference.
Responsible and being professional
You would expect the landscape architect that you appointed to be able to take responsibility for what they design and is then constructed. There is a robust process to make sure all registered landscape architects in the UK follow high ethical standards and have the necessary knowledge to deliver a high-quality service to the client. I am currently a candidate for the Pathway-to-Chartership (P2C) exams this year. Every chartered member has been through this journey, with more or less the same format. It covers a wide range of subjects from the legal system, planning legislation and contractual agreement to landscape assessment. This learning process ensures we are a good pair of hands when we work as landscape professionals and is especially helpful when we face ethical dilemmas.
University degrees that offer education in landscape architecture are accredited by the Landscape Institute, the professional body of the landscape profession in the UK. Only graduates from the accredited courses are eligible to sign up for P2C and become chartered members after the exam. Good landscape architects would not limit themselves with a degree certificate but would also aim to absorb knowledge from all sources that extend beyond their own. It is a lifelong learning process.
Strong awareness of the environment
We pride ourselves on taking care of the natural environment when we design, although many misconceptions arise around the perception that we just plant trees and design gardens. Part of our duty includes specifying trees and planting but we make sure they are planted with the right aspect, the right type of soil is specified and that tree pits are installed properly. We do that, not because we are told to do so, but because we care about the natural environment. We are fortunate to have living forms forming part of our design palette, but we have the responsibility to make sure they are used appropriately and grow sustainably.

SWIPE ⬅️ The biggest historical fleet in the world is in danger! ⚓💙 They need your help #RG @yachtlife.one created a new documentary (link in bio): On June 9th, around 200 historical sailing yachts in the Netherlands have gathered to get the attention of the media and the dutch government. These ex cargo ships are turned into charter ships in the 1970’s. In the Netherlands there are around 450 of these charter vessels that sail on the IJsselmeer, the waddenzee and other places. But there are also ships like the Bark Europa that sail around the world and expeditions to Antartica for example. Due to the current corona pandemic the government doesn’t allow gatherings of groups. That means it is impossible for these ships to take on any guests. Because these yachts are historical, they are high maintenance. They need a lot of work, money, passion and love from the owner because with ships like these you are constantly working. the funniest thing about my job is trying to persuade the kids to do the shit i never bothered with in school
case in point: i am currently writing a guide for our year 8s on how to research, plan, and write an essay
which is fine and everything, until you learn that i never once handed in an essay that wasn’t a first draft, and wrote my undergrad dissertation in 36 hours straight

A brief history of Screen City and its main districts.
Screen City is Vinyl City’s nearest neighbor and a melting pot of music from various worlds. Screen City’s resident record label is the Screen Nexus Titans. The Screen Nexus Titans challenged NSR and Bunk Bed Junction to a battle of musical wits that the former group ultimately lost. Below is a brief history of Screen City and its main districts.
Mad World
Charter: Mag Agent
Genre: Heavy Metal
The Mad World District is a relatively lawless district that was a part of Nevada until it was dragged towards Screen City by an improbability drive. A Mag Agent that belonged to the Torture line that had the distinction of surviving Hank’s combat prowess was elected into chartership of the Mad World District. He hated the A.A.H.W’s experimentations on him and slew every one of their operatives that dared to cross his path. The Mag Agent’s temperament has since cooled, but if it must come to blows, he has a giant Mossberg 500 shotgun and a voice that sounds like a guitar riff.
Phantasma
Charter: The Mystery Skulls
Genre: Synthwave
The Mystery Skulls’ afterlives changed for the better when they were elected into chartership of the Phantasma District. Their fans call them ghosts with hearts of gold and a fire that burn bright, so it’s only fitting that they have a mutual interest in spooky aesthetics and gothic design.
Open Ocean
Charter: The Diver
Genre: Aqua House
The Open Ocean District is an aquarium and a rehabilitation center for marine life. Its charter, The Diver, founded the district out of remorse for his involvement in the Tidal Wave, a massacre of sea creatures that left him traumatized. Said trauma was the reasoning behind his prohibition of seafood within the Open Ocean district’s borders. The aquarium was unintentionally destroyed by Bunk Bed Junction during a skirmish that occurred between them, but it has since been repaired.
The Closet
Charter: Heap
Genre: Ambient Melody
The Closet is home to the Museum of Lost Memories, where items that belonged to children that are either dead or missing are displayed. The district is chartered by the Heap, an entity with a soft spot for the youth of the world. Heap’s most common public form is a tall brown coat. He knows when people have been bad or good, and with that being said, may God have mercy on a corrupt soul, because he won’t.
Contiello
Charter: Squigly
Genre: Smooth Jazz
The Contiello District, which resembles New Orleans and is named after its current charter’s family, is the jazz capital of Screen City. Big Band originally chartered the district until he lost his bid for re-election to Squigly, who got her voice back when the Thin Man resurrected her and removed the stitches on her mouth.
Ireland Circuit
Charter: Aran Ryan
Genre: Celtic Irish Rock
The Ireland Circuit is a district themed around boxing and Irish culture. Aran Ryan’s personality hasn’t changed much since Punch-Out Wii, and that makes him a force to be reckoned with, especially when he tries to whip people into shape with an actual whip made from rope and a boxing glove. As far as the doctors there are concerned, Bunk Bed Junction hit Aran with reality and did his psyche some good, but that didn’t mean that he wouldn’t try to regain the influence he lost when he lost a boxing match to Zuke by TKO. Contrary to what many expect, Aran Ryan’s fans are predominantly Irish.
Mira HQ
Charter: MC Impostor
Genre: Space Rap
MC Impostor was involved in the destruction of the Skeld, which later became his venue when he joined the Screen Nexus Titans. He’s a runt in the Impostor species that can’t stab people with his tongue, so he carries a Desert Eagle and a butterfly knife on his person instead.
Craft-World
Charters: Humanized versions of The Legion of Stationery save for Stapler
Genre: Art Punk
The Legion of Stationery are what the Screen Nexus Titans got when a reunion occurred between Hole Punch, a Disco Star, Tape, a redeemed Mob Boss, Scissors, a Jungle Girl, Rubber Band, a Viking Opera Singer, and Colored Pencils, a war veteran who fought alongside Neon J. Hole Punch adopted Stapler, who was abandoned as a pup, and later went on to pass an audition for SNT elitehood with flying colors alongside the rest of the Legion. Despite their situation, they’re governing their district to the best of their ability. The Legion of Stationery are teachers in an art school, and recognizes Willow Tien “Obake” Wisp as one of their greatest students. Bunk Bed Junction made a mess in the Legion’s art studio during their battle against them, and Willow had the misfortune of walking in on it.
Strike Zone
Charter: Strike Man
Genre: Electronica
Once Strike Man learned his lesson in good sportsmanship, all manners of sports started to blossom in the Strike Zone District, even the Slugterran game of Slugball. Strike Man got the Thin Man a new TV after Bunk Bed Junction hit him toward his office and caused him to break the TV that the latter had.
Sunset Plaza
Charter: Ernesto de la Cruz
Genre: Mariachi
There have been whispers of rebellion against the Screen Nexus Titans from the Sunset Plaza District, which resembles a Mexican courtyard. Heap suspects that Ernesto and Kliff are spearheading said rebellion and has watched them closely ever since.
The SNT Tower
Prime Charter: Sir Janes The Thin Man
Genre: ???
The SNT Tower is home to The Thin Man of Little Nightmares 2’s fame. He was the undisputed prime charter of the Screen Nexus Titans until Bunk Bed Junction trounced him in a fight. Bunk Bed Junction wasn’t the first band that had a quarrel with him nor the last; the competition to get inside his office is fierce. The SNT Tower is also home to Nevada’s Sheriff and El Diablos Nacho, who was brought to Screen City from Slugterra’s Deep Caverns by the musical energies of qwasas controlled by the Screen Nexus Titans.

do you think your boys are ready to take up the mantle of chartership (charterhood? charterdom? hm...) in your absence, whether temporary or permanent?
"They already are the charters. For the most part I merely handle paperwork and scheduling, among other things. I am certain if need be they could take up those duties among themselves. However... I have no intentions of leaving them..."

Chartership is given to those professional engineers who are recognised as talented, creative and innovative for the development of a nation. Being a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) implies their responsibility, experience and abilities and talent in the business of engineering.
