The writers for the absolutely attritious Charlotte Pollard series get no points for only reaching the obvious inevitable conclusion several billion years and hours too late for it to actually be clever and surprising.
That is really the most obvious conclusion possible. If you wanted that to be seen as clever instead of infuriatingly obtuse, you should have brought that up way sooner in the episode list and not after *literally billions of years have passed within the story*
#Yes the Charlotte Pollard series does span billions of years#It sucks. In both the wow it's a tragedy way and in the wow it's so badly written away

Back in October 2019, Nick Briggs (exec producer at Big Finish) confirmed and denied a bunch of things that they were planning at Big Finish.
Of course... 6 months later a lot of plans changed. I made a post about the original stuff back in the day, so lets see how much of it came to fruition!
Things that were "Definitely happening"
"A new series of Dalek Empire" - well, they made Dalek Universe! But.... that has the doctor, and it doesn't have the dalek empire vibe, which is all about what happens when the doctor isn't around to stop a dalek invasion. So no this hasn't happened.
"Charlotte Pollard Series 3" - No - Still delayed, still not released. But Charlotte has been in a couple of recent things, so its possible they've recorded it recently!
"UNIT" - ah yes, at the time the UNIT series had concluded with no news of if it was going to continue - it was in limbo, and peeps were concerned it was cancelled. After 2019, it came back for a storyline called "Nemesis", so yes this came back. Now that Nemesis is over, we are yet again in a limbo where we don't know if the series will continue.
"1st Doctor Adventures" - yes! We got more of these, now with Noonan in the role!
"3rd Doctor Adventures" - yes these are still being made
"Further Adventures of Lucie Miller" - No - nothing since the last set in July of 2019.
"Missy" - yes, series 2 and 3 were released and series 4 is coming out next year.
"Lost Stories" - yes, miraculously they somehow found more unfinished stories to turn into audio dramas.
"Eighth Doctor Adventures: Stranded" - yes, and 2019 was before the first ep of stranded came out but oh boy were there troubles for this series. The first 4 episodes were recorded before the pandemic, and then the remainder had to be delayed and shifted around in the schedule a lot. But they did release it!
"Classic Doctors, New Monsters" - yes, two new boxsets.
So 7 out of 10 of the Definitely Happening announcements came to fruition.
Things that were planned
"Both Alex Macqueen and Derek Jacobi as the Master" - yes, the war master series with Jacobi is still going on, but Macqueen has only appeared once: in 2021 with the boxset "Masterful"
"Narvin" - yes, has appeared in 2023's Gallifrey box set.
"Matt Smith knows that he can approach [...] to do stories [with Big Finish]" - Woops... This isn't really a planned thing, it's just a statement. Matt Smith has not joined the audio dramas yet.
"3rd Doctor Adventures with Liz Shaw" - yes this happened in a couple of the recent 3das.
"Jago appearances" - yes Jago has appeared in a couple of things, like the Paternoster Gang series.
"Jenny (the Doctor's Daughter)" - yes she came back for another boxset.
"Rose [Tyler]" - yes there's been 2 more boxsets with Rose.
"Davros" - yes he's come back a few times.
"Torchwood Series 7" - yes. This is referring to "The Story Continues", the audio continuation of Torchwood, with seasons set after the show. Series 5 was "Aliens Among Us" from 2017, Series 6 was "God Among Us" from 2018, and Series 7 was "Among Us" and finally came out in 2023. I'm not sure if they're planning to make a Series 8, I'm not really on the pulse of Torchwood - let me know!
"Re-arranging the Monthly Adventures" - yes. This is the one that fascinates me the most! Because at the time of my original post, we still didn't know what they meant by this. I remember at the time people mourning the Monthly Adventures (or "Main Range" as it was originally known), as that was how they got into the audios in the first place. I think the changes they made are much better - instead of having the 5th, 6th, and 7th doctors crammed into one range, they each have their own sections on the site. And all the Doctors feel on the same level now, and it's easier to get into. Plus: you can now just pre-order a single doctor's releases in a bundle, if you only want that doctor's stuff.
"Subscriber Short Trips" - Sort of. This is an interesting one, because with the end of the monthly adventures there aren't any subscriptions anymore. So the Subscriber Short Trips specifically are gone. Replacing them is something much more interesting in my opinion: the first boxset for each of the 5th, 6th, and 7th doctors each year has included a bonus 1 hour audiobook. I like this system because it makes it possible to get these audio books without having to specifically subscribe to a specific period of monthly audio books - with the subscriber short trips, you could only get them by subscribing! You couldn't get them by just buying something! Plus, I've liked the audio books I've heard so far.
"Constance Clarke" - Yes, she appeared in a few of the last Monthly Adventures before the range stopped, and also in the special boxset "The Eleven". She hasn't been seen for a while, though, as the 6th Doctor now has Hebe Harrison as a new companion, so they're focusing on her story arc.
"Vicki, Steven, and Dodo joining the First Doctor range" - Mostly - Dodo is the main companion in the recent 1das, Vicki is coming back in this month's boxset (January 2024), but Steven hasn't made an appearance yet.
So 10 out of 12 planned things did happen, with the other 2 being mostly as planned.
Things they had no plans to do
"A torchwood + cybermen story" - Nope.
"Class Volume 3" - Yes, they've done volumes 3 AND 4.
"Iris Wildthyme" - Sort of, she's been in some audiobooks but not in any proper dramas.
"Sarah Jane Adventures characters" - Yes, in the recent "Rani Takes on the World" series from 2023.
"Ace and Benny together" - No, I don't believe so.
"Raine" - Nope.
"David Tennant" - Yes he was in a lot of things over the pandemic.
"Multi-meddling monk story" - Yes, this happened in Missy series 3 in "Two Monks, One Mistress".
"The Rani" - No, as previously noted the Rani is still stuck in a tangle of Rights issues.
"Clara and (Lady) Me series" - Nope - was noted as a great idea back in 2019, but I'm sure that the actors are busy with other things.
"Frobisher" - Sadly no.
"Graceless" - Yes - the series didn't come back, but the main characters came back in "The Fifth Doctor Adventures: Wicked Sisters".
"Romana III" - Nope.
"Novel Adaptions" - No. This is one of the things that is very weird: fans vocally want more adaptions of the VNA novels from the 90s, and Big Finish want to make them. But.... Nick Briggs has said that they don't sell for some reason, despite being one of the most commonly asked for series. I doubt this will come back at all.
"New Series Lost Stories" - Nope.
"Shalka Doctor" - Nope.
"Mel and Glitz" - No, and sadly the actor for Glitz passed away in 2021, which makes this unlikely.
So 5 out of 17 things they had no plans for actually did end up happening.
Things they said Will Not Happen
"Lungbarrow adaption" - No of course not lol.
"Anniversary boxsets for 3rd/5th Doctor/the Master/etc" - Sort of - at the time, Nick said "Almost every year is an anniversary of something or someone now". But since then we've had an anniversary boxset for the Master, as well as a semi-special boxset for the 40th anniversary of the 5th doctor (albeit this was just a normal release that was a bit anniversary-like)
So one sort of out of 2 definitely not happening things.
Things they said "Just Imagine..."
(which means "we're not going to answer that right now for marketing reasons")
"More unbound" - Yes, the Doctor of War boxsets which came out in 2022.
"Marc Cory (from Mission to the Unknown)" - No, but the elements of Mission to the Unknown appeared in Dalek Universe (which is probably why they didn't talk about it).
"Eric Roberts and John Simm as The Master" - Yes! Roberts has his own little series called "Master!", and both of them showed up in the "Masterful" boxset in 2021. It was heavily implied in behind the scenes stuff that Simm is not planning to show up ever again, so that may be the only time we get a Simm audio.
"Class Series 2" - Sort of. This is referring to continuing the story of Class from after the end of the TV show, which they originally couldn't do for rights reasons. The 2023 drama "Secret Diary of a Rhodian Prince" was set after the TV show, but is so far the only episode to do so.
"More incarnations of the Master" - Yes, Milo Parker played the Master in "Masterful", but nothing otherwise.
"Lady Christina Volume 2" - Yes.
"New Earth Volume 2" - No.
"The Nine/Eleven/Twelve/more incarncations of the character" - Yes, in fact this character has appeared very frequently over the last few years and I'm starting to get sick of them.
"Delta and the Bannermen sequel" - No? I'm not sure what this was referring to, but neither Delta nor the Bannermen have returned.
"Jo meeting Missy" - Yes, this happened in "Masterful".
So 6 out of these 10 happened.
"I'll look into that"
"Availability of The Veiled Leopard and Sarah Jane Smith: Comeback" - Comeback is now available on the website, after many years out of print. The Veiled Leopard is not available on the big finish site in general, I think there's some complex issues there. They occasionally make it available for free as a bonus special thing for a special occasion, and you can also listen to it on their soundcloud page.
"Limited Edition Vinyls on the website" - When they did vinyls for the 9das, those were available on the website, so this did end up happening.
And that's it! Interesting to see how much changed (and how much didn't) between October 2019 and now.

I'm pretty sure he's also the one who was in charge of the entire Charlotte Pollard series and literally he just spends the entire fucking time torturing Charley, and he also I'm pretty sure wrote the new quote eight and Charley end quote adios where Charlie is once again tortured and humiliated constantly so he literally just hates women. And gets off on subjecting his audience to misogynistic hate crimes where he tortures an humiliates women.
[Image description: the cover to the Doctor Who audio "Exhile" from the Unbound series of alternate universes.
The cover is pink fading to black from the center outwards, with stared in the background. There are two faces on the cover, half faded into the background. Arabella Weir is shown as the Doctor on the left, with only her right eye visible, and on the other side is a man, only his left eye visible.
Their eyes are highlighted with the same green color that stands out against the pink and black background. The man is staring intently at the viewer, while the Doctor is staring with an expression of resignation.
The center of the cover is a bright solid white circle with the blue classic Doctor Who logo, and going through the circle the word "Unbound" has been spelled out in sharp glowing letters, with the large white circle forming the "o" in Unbound.
In small front from the top of the cover down, it says Arabella Weir in Doctor Who Unbound, Exhile, by Nicholas Briggs." End image description.]
Hey, if you love the Doctor being played by a woman and you stumble across this audio, do yourself a favor, and do not listen to it.
What was the first sign that something wasn't quite right?
The audio's synopsis:
~
What if... the Doctor had escaped the justice of the Time Lords?
"They want to punish me for being me!"
All the Doctor has to do to avoid being caught by the Time Lords is work in a supermarket and go to the pub. It's a cunning plan - certainly far less dangerous than fighting the dreaded Quarks and all those other alien fiends.
But just when everything seemed mundane and safe, alien transmissions, exploding poison gas, Princess Anne and wobbly trolleys burst onto the scene to ruin everything. It's a crisis! A fiendish alien plot! And the Doctor must use all the resources at her disposal to defeat it.
She'll probably need to have a large vodka first, though.
~
Everything seemed okay... Up until that last line. And listening, initially, it's pretty funny. The opening scene is humerous.
But then you wonder... Why does this sound like a parody?
And then you listen to the rest of the audio.
Which is *full* of vomiting sound effects from the Doctor and their friends getting drunk and hungover constantly, blatant transphobia and misogyny as it's revealed that Time Lords only change gender as a natural punishment for suicide.
The phrase "gender change regeneration" is used twice, both times as a condemnation and the butt of a joke, including being the "worst" of the Doctors "many crimes against Time Lord sensibility".
The Doctors previous self, an alternate second or third Doctor, spends 90% of the audio screaming and berating the Doctor (in between her bouts of graphic vomiting and burping/gagging) about how she's useless and disgusting and worthless and "you should commit suicide again to become a man again, maybe that'll give you some sense!"
90% of the audio is the Doctor being drunk, getting drunk, or being hungover, all overlaid with constant burping sound effects as a "gag" that's literally gag worthy.
Only about 10% was actually enjoyable, and most of that was from the perspective of the two Time Lords who were sent to hunt down the Doctor-- one of whom was coincidentally voiced by David Tennant, well before he ever reigned as the Tenth Doctor, as this audio is from 2003, two years before RTD revived Doctor Who.
Two high and mighty Time Lords lost and confused and hopelessly failing to blend in with the intricacies of a primitive alien culture is absolutely hilarious.
The mental image of David Tennant and another guy as pompous time lords decked out in 80's high fashion "very politely" (in her own words) robbing an old lady so they can buy new clothes to blend in better is hilarious.
And then it immediately cuts back to the Doctor being screamed at by her previous incarnation from the TV as the Doctor is pouring herself another shot of Vodka after being passed out drunk on the floor for an entire day already, telling her she's a useless disgusting woman who should just kill herself to become a man again already.
...yeah.
I highly recommend NOT listening to this audio. There's maybe three scenes that are well done and meaningful, and I would love to see Arabella Weir's Doctor given some justice, because you really can see her potential in about... Five minutes total of the hour+ long audio.
On YouTube, there's an edit someone made of the opening scene in black and white. Go watch that, because it's the only worthwhile part of the audio, everything else is buried in graphic vomiting or violent misogyny and transphobia.
Apparently, Nicholas Briggs regrets writing and directing this audio... But until he remakes it from the ground up and gives Arabella Weir's Doctor a new path forward and showcases some fucking growth away from his transphobia and misogyny?
Fuck Nicholas Briggs, and do not listen to this audio unless you have a strong stomach and you want to listen to it only to rebuild it from the ground up.

here’s a big dumb list of all my Charley arc headcanons
This is gonna get long, get ready lads
Charley is asexual
I’m on this boat for a number of reasons, primarily the fact that India herself said in an interview she thought Charley was ace. She might have been joking, but honestly it makes a lot of sense: this wasn’t really a named thing in the early 1900s, so Charley wouldn’t know about it or how to communicate it.
Whenever someone makes a move on her, she always has a negative response to it afterwards. The primary three are in Scherzo, Enemy Aliens, and Embankment Station. Obviously Scherzo’s kiss prompted a negative response, but Charley seems even particularly resistant to the subject afterwards. In Enemy Aliens, Hilary suggests that they kiss to hide from the police, and Charley responds with EXTREME revulsion. (Not to mention that scene took place before Scherzo.) In Embankment Station and on, Charley’s the one who suggested the kiss with Robert in the first place, but is extremely uncomfortable about it afterwards and resists any discussion of it, direct or otherwise. Overall her level of discomfort indicates something far beyond awkwardness or inexperience. Sounds asexual to me.
Eight is aromantic
Eight is very clearly both emotionally and personally attracted to Charley, possibly even moreso than Charley is to him. But Scherzo makes it pretty clear that he doesn’t actually love her. That audio in particular goes far enough to imply that it’s more like infatuation or obsession. Aromance really represents this dichotomy I think. I’ve noticed a lot of other people who headcanon him as ace, but IMO this works better--it’s not that he doesn’t understand romantic advances/commentary, it’s that they literally just don’t hit for him.
Eight has synesthesia
So I don’t really have a lot of hard evidence for this one but like... come on. How could he not. I think his synesthesia is specifically time-based. He talks heavily in the Divergent arc about how the loss of time feels like a lost arm to him. I believe his sense of time converges with his other senses; he sees different time periods and/or times of day in different colors, certain time periods/times of day have a certain smell to him, certain time periods/times of day leave a specific taste in his mouth. That kind of thing. (To take it a step further, I imagine the Divergent universe looked very drained of color to him. Not totally grayscale, but as if the saturation had been turned way down.)
Six is a wonderful person
This isn’t a headcanon, I just wanted to remind you.
Charley is wearing her Legacy outfit in her spinoff series
...Or at least in most of it. I already talked rambled about the Legacy outfit extensively in this post. In most of the promos for the Charlotte Pollard series, she’s wearing a shoulder-cut black shirt. Since the Legacy outfit has that jacket, we don’t know the cut of the shirt underneath, so my headcanon is that she just took the jacket off at some point after she started working for the Viyrans. In the promos for series 2, she’s wearing another jacket, so I say she just put that one on top.
Charley wears a binder sometimes
Look at this post and tell me that isn’t amazing.
Charley loves hand-holding
Now, you might think Scherzo would make this impossible. But Scherzo actually supports it. Despite the Doctor being a bit of an ass in that audio, she’s completely comfortable with the idea of holding hands, and at the end she wants to continue doing so despite the trauma they just went through. In Embankment Station on, although she doesn’t seem comfortable encouraging anything romantic with Robert, she is ALWAYS consistently okay with him taking her hand/holding her hand. At times she actually goes out of her way to encourage it. She also frequently takes/holds the hands of various characters throughout her entire arc.
Eight knew what was going on with C’rizz
This is less a headcanon and more my opinion about something that was already canon. At the end of Absolution, Charley accuses the Doctor of knowing that C’rizz was going to die and why. We never get any concrete conclusion about that, but I say Charley was totally right. I also say Eight knew that C’rizz had a violent history and was “haunted” by his past murders. If I am right about this, then it does a lot to explain some of the nasty things that happen to C’rizz throughout his arc.
C’rizz looks similar to The Shape of Water creature
Seriously, when I saw this post I thought it was supposed to be C’rizz art at first. And I get that they’ve released an official design for C’rizz already, but nobody draws this boy consistently! Come on!!!!
Though the SOW creature is amphibian-based while C’rizz is chameleon-based. So C’rizz is probably less scale-y and more hide-y. But look at this image and tell me C’rizz’s head doesn’t look exactly like that come on
C’rizz has prehensile feet
Like this. Actually, for brevity’s sake, just assume that anything on Johannes’ blog is also a headcanon of mine.
The TARDIS doesn’t hate Charley
In Patient Zero, Mila goes on this whole rant about how the TARDIS wasn’t protecting Charley from her because the TARDIS disliked Charley due to her broken timeline. I think Mila got it backwards. The TARDIS wasn’t protecting Charley from her because the TARDIS knew things had to happen this way. It’s canon from The Doctor’s Wife that the TARDIS doesn’t experience time in linear order, so it makes sense that Six’s TARDIS would “see” Charley and go “Yep, I know how this is gonna go.”
Not to mention that even though the TARDIS has ulterior motives in Zagreus, it still goes out of its way to help, protect, and even talk to Charley throughout the course of that audio. The TARDIS likes Charley my dudes.
Robert made a move in the capsule
The “official” description of what happened is that they kissed because they thought they were going to die. But both the actual canon and the “making of” interviews feature a lot of people heavily implying that it was a lot more than just a kiss. I don’t think they did like... some nasty junk though. I’m imagining Robert probably touched her legs/hips/stomach, trying to get intimate basically. And like I said, Charley’s asexual, so her negative response after the fact just makes even more sense.

Just finished Charlotte Pollard: Series 1 (great boxset btw, go listen!!) and was thinking back over the stories to get them straight in my head, but I was missing one. It struck me after a few minutes that the one I kept skipping over was The Fall of the House of Pollard, and I laughed at myself for already trying to forget that that Trauma™️ ever happened
You could almost say…I wiped it from my memory

OK so it's been seven years of waiting for Charlotte Pollard series 3 and the (alleged) Charley and Eight reunion. Which I think about...
alot
Anyway so I was wondering about peoples thoughts on where it would land for eight, given we have options.
#Charley Pollard#Eighth Doctor#charleight#I'm trying to be through some of these are more likely than others

DOCTOR WHO RESOURCES: A MASTERPOST
Hi all, I was going to share my Doctor Who comics, but I got a bit carried away so enjoy! I’m only sharing links to my own files, websites, and files I have permission to share, so this will certainly have gaps. Feel free to contact me for any recommendations, suggestions, requests, or anything you’d like to add ❤️
VIDEO/TELEVISION:
Mini Episodes, Prequels, Lockdown, Extras and More
Scream of the Shalka Episodes 1 2 3 4 5 6
The Curse of Fatal Death
Some Doctor Who Confidentials
The Peter Cushing Films
The Infinity Quest
Dreamland (unfortunately this is only available to people in the UK but you can use a VPN too)
AUDIO:
All the audio dramas here come from Big Finish on Spotify, but I highly suggest supporting Big Finish directly when you can, as they are a smaller company that relies more heavily on audience contributions. There’s also more free stuff on their website that isn’t included below.
The First 50 Main Range
Short Trips Volume 1 and 2
8th Doctor main range in order up to Zagreus, and first season with Lucie Miller (if you are just getting into the audios I would suggest starting here)
Charlotte Pollard Further Adventures (Series 1)
4th Doctor Adventures (Series 1)
The Lost Stories (4th and 6th Doctors)
Destiny of the Doctor
Unit: Dominion (highly suggest this, great plot twists and characters, it is 4 hours long though)
UNIT (assorted)
The Stageplays
Bernice Summerfield
Counter-Measures (series 1 and 2)
I, Davros
The Davros Mission
Iris Wildthyme (assorted)
Jago & Litefoot
The Companion Chronicles (series 2)
Graceless (Series 1-3)
Cyberman
Dalek Empire
Fan Audios (these are amazing too)
The Soundtrack
COMICS:
My Personal Collection (right now it’s mostly full of wilderness years stuff, but I’m always editing it)
This website has a lot of the newer stuff and is fairly safe
This website also has a lot of new stuff, but is a little less safe
This website has all of the magazines and most Titan comics. No clue how safe it is though.
Would highly suggest the fan comics High and Dry by Valc0, and The Ten Doctors by Rich Morris
NOVELS/ LITERATURE:
Here’s my collection of pretty much every major novel series. In truth I don’t actually know what sort of stuff I have, but there’s around 500 novels in here
All of these are in my collection already, but here’s another link just in case: EDAs VNAs PDAs
My collection only has a few of the target novelizations, but there are more here
Some (older) Doctor Who magazines
Official Scripts
Transcripts
Big Finish Transcript Archive
Here’s just a link to AO3’s Doctor Who stuff because I can
MISCELLANEOUS:
Games
Big Finish Trigger Warning Chart
The Big Finish Podcast
A list of everything included in Doctor Who’s canon
The Wiki
