5 years ago, a formerly run down little flower shop was bought out by freya bloom who had big dreams of making arrangements for the biggest events and people in the city. it’s been her baby since she signed on the dotted line and the place she’s put blood, sweat and tears into. business is blooming booming in comparison to where it started and they not only cater to all your floral needs, but edible arrangements and gift baskets as well.

Fitz & Tantrums, Daryl Hall: "Girl I Love You", Live from Daryl's House
Daryl Hall's Mom says Fitz, "Sings like her son."
Hall's one octave higher than the Tantrums on the last verse.
Last video about winning a music audition in Philly. Prize was making a recording.
"Girl I Love You", was one of Hall's first songs written in first group, "The Temptones." And when Hall said, he "was trying to be Smokey (Robinson)."
Dueling saxes between Charlie, "Mr. Casual", DeChant, the tall, older, long hair guy with glasses with Daryl's House and Fitz's James King, the short guy with the hat. Does it really matter who won?

Tears For Fears/Hall and Oates concert review
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was not sure what to expect since reading up on Tears for Fears in that they had not been on such a long extensive tour as this one with Hall and Oates in some time, and this night would be their last city in the tour before taking a break.  Needless to say, I was very impressed by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith as well as the rest of the band from Tears for Fears.  The whole group sounded amazing from their instruments as well as their singing in addition the lighting effects and stage presence was just perfect.  Some stand out moments were their cover of Radiohead’s “Creep” which if you were to close your eyes, it sounded like the original version.  In addition, “Head over heels” was fantastic and after performing for an hour, closing with “Shout” for their encore was the perfect way to end their set.  Based on what I saw from the crowd it seemed the majority of the people there were very excited since this group has not toured in a long time so I think with Hall and Oates including them in the tour, it very much helped attract people to buy a ticket and check out the show.

This was my fourth time seeing Hall and Oates live and once again I was not disappointed.  This time seeing them perform though there were a couple of differences I noticed compared to the previous times I have seen them live.  Rather than just crank out a bunch of their hits one after the other, they tended to extend their songs and do more of a jam band feel.  I personally enjoyed this because it enhanced the guitar solos as well as their AMAZING saxophonist Charlie DeChant which boosted their whole Rock and Soul sound creating an almost jazz like feel to the show which was something I was not expecting.  Some other moments I appreciated were the call and response they did with the crowd of the chorus from “I can’t go for that” as well as performing “Sara Smile” on the piano was a nice touch.

As mentioned above this was my fourth time seeing Hall and Oates live but the first time in a major city at such a huge venue as the Verizon Center in DC.  Due to the concert being in a big location I was excited to see people from all different races and age groups inside one place to watch these iconic 80’s bands perform live.  Proving that both groups music is important and still relevant today as it transcends time so that anyone from any generation can appreciate gratifying music.

Quote
The spell she cast was at once shattered and heightened as from the mouth of this goddess spewed forth the most foul, crude, and expletive-laced soliloquy I'd ever heard. [...] 'She would chew you up and spit you out' popped into my head, lodging somewhere deep within the right lobe of my brain. [...] To this day when I hear 'Maneater,' Charlie DeChant's sleek and sensuous saxophone becomes the sharp, late-day sunlight slanting off the city's steel-and-glass towers, and the song that started as an ode to a beguiling, if incongruously foul-mouthed, siren becomes a statement on life in the go-go '80s. A soundtrack to the excesses that brought many a man (myself included) to their knees. The maneater wasn't just the woman. It was New York City.
John Oates, in his new memoir Change of Seasons

Kenny Loggins is not the only purveyor of the 80’s mainstream whose songs invite ridicule, Hall & Oates are other ones like that. Nonetheless, I think the opinion on them changed recently, since it became obvious that once you put away all the 80’s production tricks, you have really great melodies. Yes, the popular 80’s outfits may have been too glossy for their own good, yet their music is regularly played not thanks to the ironic value of these compositions, but because they still sound vital. I know, it is my regular cliche to describe those whose hits are such as pop classicists, although that does not mean they only followed the guidelines. While they probably structured their tunes immensely, they were willing to break some rules, so they wouldn’t be utterly dull.
