Cancer Research Charity Cake Bake Off
See the full gallery on Posterous
Cancer Research UK
This week guys I haven't got a new recipe, we're revisiting an old recipe I did that's one of my very favourites, my Scrummy Carrot Cake, plus I have some little news! Last Sunday I attended a local Cancer Research Charity Cake Bake Off at the local High School. I entered my own Carrot Cake, it was truly amazing when I last made it for my site so I thought I'd make it again! :)
The organizers arrange the Bake off every year to help raise more money for the Relay for Life which is in two weeks time.
My cake complete with bunting :)
My cake
This is my cake taking pride of place, albeit on a slightly empty table as it was pretty early on when I took this pic! I made my own cake bunting and cake stand- got a bit carried away! The category I entered was 'Celebratory/Novelty Cakes' so I tried to make my cake look quite english- tieing in with the Jubilee. I also chose pink themed bunting material from my material selection so it also tied in with the Cancer Research logo. I had a little bit of checked material left so I improvised and tied a bow on to the base of my stand :)
The stand was really easy to make, I think I'll make some more as I'm so very happy with this one! I'll do a seperate blog post showing how I made this one step by step so if you fancy it you can try it yourself! :)
Refreshments
The really friendly orgaizers had put on refreshments and a small raffle to also raise more money for Cancer Research.
Mini Victoria Sponge cake
My boyfriend and I bought a cup of tea each and he had a mini victoria sponge in the shape of a very tiny loaf- it was so cute I had to take a photo! It looked completely plain but once you bit into it you found the strawberry jam and the cream, looked lovely! All of the cakes and muffins were kindly donated by a local company.
My Offical Certificate!!
This is indeed my little news! To my amazment we'd been sat chatting and eating cake for over an hour and it was time for the winners to be announced from the judging. There was 4 categories, Traybakes, Cupcakes, Children's Cakes and Celebratory/Novelty Cakes. Incredibly I was annouced first and there was a small roar and lots of clapping... wow. I won.. me! I sat beaming like a fool staring at my certificate. The woman who won the Best Tasting certificate decided to share her cupcakes and she started passing them round. My Boyfriend and I had one each and they really did deserve to win, they were so beautifully sweet and fluffy (they are in the photo). They were plain Cupcakes with pink sugar icing and lilac sprinkles, very girly and beautiful.
So to review my lovely Sunday afternoon, if you fancy a warm drink, a relaxed chat, and a little baking the day before I urge you to enter a cake into a charity Bake Off or a charity sale. It was a very enjoyable way to spend a sunday afternoon and warmed my heart that I was helping to raise money for such a good cause! :)

Baking for a good cause
This Sunday (13th May) I will be doing my first ever run in Bromsgrove. I am running 5k (which for those of us still working things out in miles its 3.1miles) This is a long way for me, the last time I ran it was cross country at school and that was far from a pleasure! We have been training for 9 weeks now, and are feeling reasonably prepared...
Thankfully I'm sharing this run with two of my other friends. There will be three of us, to make the run light hearted we have called ourselves The Three Musketeers- Charity Runners.
To get into the spirit of the run and also being The Three Musketeers we are going to wear hats and we'll have swords, all in the name of chairty :)
Baking for a good cause :)
I baked last night Banana and Chocolate Chip Muffins, Blueberry Muffins and Gingerbread men! they all went down a storm at my local work and at my hairdressers. If you ever need someone to sponsor you bake something for them.. everyone loves a bit of baking!
I got quite absorbed in the little project I'd set myself and made little flags to advertise the cause and also my little site :) I just printed my logo and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Research logo out on my regular printer and stuck them together with pritt stick sandwiching together the little cocktail stick. I secured the stick with sello tape. Ok so probably not the most officent way of doing it but it worked for me this time round.. I may have to foil a different plan next time!
If you would like to support the research into Blood Cancer please donate via our sponsor page which is: www.justgiving.com/TheThreeMusketeers-CharityRunners

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook you will of seen this photo pop up on your feed. I received this amazing book in the post yesterday and it's full of lots of fun baking ideas on sticks, can't wait to have a play! :)
