hi sorry im having a silly gotham moment and need to talk about it with someone (making it my mutuals problem <3). but genuinely i think giving the joker (jerome) a proper backstory and people that were his family was not the bad thing that people seem to think it is. in the way that in the comics, the joker ALWAYS lies about his past. he changes it up every single time and uses it to manipulate people so really no one knows his real past, other than the lies he told them. and i think the direction gotham took, with taking some of his lies throughout the years and turning that into his ACTUAL past is such an interesting take. it does not humanize him (as ive seen some people say) but it does take a small bit of the mystery away from the character and that is NOT a bad thing. in a way learning about his past and the situation he grew up in SOLELY from how he tells the story is just like in the comics. because there is objectively still that potential for him to lie about it in the future and more importantly, there is something so interesting about how his past is something that he controls the narrative of. his mom is dead, his dad is dead and it is all up to how he tells it.
