The Forty Students

So if you’ve seen the picture posts, we already know which is the main character, but…each one will have their own backstory. We figured quick short stories about key moments or moments of joy/anguish/pride/etc...are good enough. We want character and this takes place during Voldemort’s first rise to power, well...for the most part. It doesn’t last long though. We will definitely be doing a lot about their lives after school. So here’s a VERY brief synopsis of each character. WARNING THOUGH! If you click keep reading, there is a very long post waiting for you. You have been warned.

Nicole Bates: A popular and occasionally snobby young lady that enjoys wizarding fashion and music. She hopes that all of her hard work and studies in school will allow her to be the best in her career. She hopes to one day become a Healer at an institute such as St. Mungo's. She enjoys researching potions and one day hopes to alleviate ailments associated with more nefarious ones.

Jimmy Birchwood: At first, a happy go lucky young man that suffered a Bludger mishap during a practice and is now stoic, cold, and extremely unamused by life. He’s currently Keeper on the Ravenclaw Quidditch team. When not practicing Quidditch or doing homework, he can usually be found reading in either his common room or the library. Despite being an impressive Quidditch player, Birchwood would rather go off to be an auror.

Alan Bowen: A loyal young man and a Hippogriff enthusiast with a bit of a lighthearted yet rude streak. He still cares for his friends and plays Chaser on the Slytherin Quidditch team. He prefers to be with a small group of friends rather than a large one. He hopes to one day own a ranch where he can breed Hippogriff and teach people about how awesome they are!

Taylor Brown: A quiet young lad that just wants to stay out of trouble...please!? He sometimes finds it difficult to understand his housemates, so he tends to keep to himself or be with Olivia in the library. In the end, he just wants to work in the Dept. of Magical Games and Sports. Doing what you ask? Scheduling Quidditch matches. The games may be what the people look forward to, but without a scheduler, there can be no good games!

Camilla Conners: A young lady that enjoys Herbology and the occasional prank or two, and hey, throw Quidditch in there too. She plays Chaser on the Gryffindor Quidditch team. She always ties to cheer up her friends at every turn, no matter how she's feeling. She wants to open up a shop with her friend Jennifer. She's great at cultivating magical and nonmagical plants for her friends potions.

Thomas Denton: A young man obsessed with the creatures of the magical world and hates being the butt of a certain Gryffindor's pranks. Well, he isn't necessarily the target, he just finds himself in the way. He tries to figure out how to get them back, but his housemates don't want anything to do with those antics. He has an interest in Magizoology and hopes to be a valuable asset to the research team in Romania.

Jennifer Dobbins: Relaxed and ever ready to aid her friends, she's a passionate potions enthusiast with a heart of gold. She sometimes has small bouts of anxiety when she puts her homework off to the last minute (minus potions of course!) Her friend Camilla agreed to open up a shop once they left Hogwarts. Her potions skills are top notch and she wants to share a range of potions with the world!

Marsha Donalds: Quiet and reserved, she prefers studying alone in the library, but has an eye for ministry mishaps. Because of her knack for gathering facts on people, she also learned how to read other's body language. Because of her talent for digging through the news to garner facts about the ministry and other people of importance in the wizarding world, she wishes to become a Daily Prophet reporter.

Eric Felder: A cocky and conceited young man with a brash attitude and an even bigger mouth. Add in the fact that he’s a Seeker for the Slytherin Quidditch team and you have even more trouble. He has a rather short temper, so that leads to some unneeded confrontations. Eric wishes to venture off into the world of potioneering and hopes to one day discover some new and useful potions that will take the world by storm.

Weston Fitzgerald: A scholar through and through, he strives to be the best a student can be all while trying to keep his cousin out of trouble. After all, he is Head Boy and Ravenclaw prefect...it’s his duty! His cousin really knows how to press all of his buttons to stress him out. Weston loves dueling and co-captains the Dueling Club with Gregory. He wants to use his talents to become an auror.

Gregory Goldstein: A rather absent minded young man with a knack for dueling, but he is a gentleman and loves the Dueling Club he co-captains with Weston Fitzgerald. He tries to perform small acts of kindness to others to brighten up their days. He and Weston want to become aurors in the future, and Gregory knows that one day, there will be a time where he will be needed as one. He can feel it.

Stanley Green: Calm, cool, and collected at all times, nobody can stop this guy's nonchalant attitude and super chill personality, except Transfiguration...that boy is excited for that. Not only is Transfiguration his passion, but he loves Quidditch and plays Keeper for the Gryffindor team. He proves to have a knack for talking his way out of situations. Stanley however, gets tired of Quidditch after Hogwarts (playing anyway) and joins the Broom Regulatory Unit at the Ministry.

Jane Hosking: A fashion lover with an elegant air to her, but she'll still throw you a death glare for wearing that dreadful color combination of orange and lime green. Thankfully she won’t use her Slytherin prefect authority to dock points for it! She makes sure that her outfits are always perfectly matched. She eventually wants to become a fashion icon in the wizarding world and she will do it! SHE WILL!

Sienna Hunter: Need a hand? She's got your back. Sienna may not always appear to be the friendliest person, but she will gladly assist you with your homework...if she thinks she’s good enough at the subject! She sometimes cons a few people she assists out of a few extra sickles and knuts. Sierra has a knack for giving out sweet deals to younger students looking for some Honeyduke's candy and because of her prowess with money, she chooses to work for Gringott's.

Heidi Irvine: A sophisticated, and occasionally rude young lady that seeks to be the best. Even without meaning to, she can come off as insensitive. She plays Seeker on the Hufflepuff Quidditch team and has declared herself co-captain. She’s also Hufflepuff prefect. What more could she ask for? Because the talent scouts don't choose Heidi, she goes off to become a Healer at St. Mungo's.

Arthur Jacobs: Constantly dragged into shenanigans, he just wants to plant things...give him a break please! When he gets that break, he can go off and play Quidditch with the Gryffindors. He’s a pretty good Beater and an even better Gryffindor prefect. He usually comes off as quiet and friendly. Eventually, he becomes a Herbologist, often supplying Camilla with some interesting plants he discovers around the world.

Matthew Jarrett: A young man that loves a good joke or discussion about muggle television shows. He often finds himself rambling on about the shows. He’s a muggle born...what can I say? Often times, he thinks about what happens when he just randomly waves his wand and mutters words, especially the TV show titles. This curiosity led him to wanting to be a Spell Inventor at the Ministry.

Evelyn Jones: A chattery young lady that is intrigued by everyday gossip and a good story. Because of her expertise at crafting juicy gossip stories. She loves telling long stories that she makes up to cause a little bit of drama. Evelyn wants to work for the Muggle Worthy Excuse Committee when she leaves Hogwarts.

Gwenog Jones: A brutal beater on her house Quidditch team, whose skills don’t get to shine as well as they should thanks to her Quidditch “co-captain”. She often tutors some of her housemates whenever they need it, especially her Quidditch pals. She wants to play for the Holyhead Harpies when she leaves Hogwarts, but hopes that Heidi isn't ruining it for her. She does happen to meet with a talent scout for the Harpies.

Michael Kravitz: A laid back young man who gets lost and confused quite easily. He likes to be around his friends and has found a liking for playing Quidditch, just not on his house team anymore. He tends to be a bit of a foodie, which causes a few food coma days. Dragons are his passion. He loves anything to do with dragons from their eggs, to how their scales glisten in the sun! He hopes to have a reservation for dragons that have been illegally purchased and abandoned as babies.

James Lawrence: A loud and fun loving young man that dreams of becoming a Quidditch player. He loves Quidditch and causing commotion in class...well, when he can...Otherwise, playing Chaser for the Gryffindor team is his life and as captain he wants to ensure his team gets to finally share in a win to celebrate together. He sometimes ends up being the tiniest bit of a sore loser when he misses the win by an inch. When he leaves school, he hopes to be as great of a sports entertainer in professional Quidditch as he is at Hogwarts and dreams of playing for the Montrose Magpies...he wouldn't even be upset by a signing on with the Chudley Cannons.

Katherine Long: A young lady that absolutely loves numbers. She likes to keep track of scores, house points, and well...predict the future with them. She asks everyone she meets at school if she can predict their future. Her love for arithmancy has led her to wanting to become a world renowned arithmancer, or at least one good enough to be credible in Diagon Alley.

Carlisle Martin: A narcissistic young man that can’t keep his ego in check and that just means he can’t get what he wants most of the time. He likes to think he has it all as Slytherin prefect and Slytherin Quidditch captain (chaser too), but he always loses out on what matters most. He tends to come off as arrogant, even when trying to just have a normal conversation. He has a slight interest in magical creatures many wizards would consider pests. He wants to become a top member of the Pest Advisory Bureau when he leaves Hogwarts. It's not the most noble job, but someone has to do it!

Carrie Mileno: A strict and rule loving young lady that hates when her housemates misbehave and lose them any kind of lead they had. She is a Gryffindor prefect and Head Girl. Why wouldn’t she try to keep her house in line!? She would much rather study or do her assignments than have to worry about being a "babysitter" for her housemates. Carrie has a knack for charms and counter curses, having been extremely well versed in Charms and Transfiguration. She wishes to become a Curse Breaker for the Ministry of Magic, a job requiring several talents.

Olivia Mitchells: A shy and quiet young lady that prefers studying and wand work to the hustle and bustle of the castle corridors and students, but as Ravenclaw prefect, she does do her duty! Even though she's on the shy side, she does her best to help the new students when they need it. She enjoys studying unique magic at the Hogwarts library with Taylor and hopes to become a Metal Charmer after her time at Hogwarts.

Hughbert O’Reily: A gentle and kind young man that desires to make the world a better and brighter place, and he wants to reach those goals. He tries to make friends in every house to prove that they don't need old grudges anymore, a new way of thinking is needed. Hughbert hopes that becoming an auror will bring about the world changes he desires. He knows the risks and would do anything to ensure the world is at peace again.

Brianna Parks: A mischievous and playful young lady that enjoys hovering around her friends to cheer them on...or to scare them...either works. She tends to be a bit clingy to people that she considers her best friends. While preferring the role of Chaser, Brianna decided to step up her game and tryout for a position as a Gryffindor Beater...and she got it! Despite her playful nature, she's an extremely gifted healer. She may have made mistakes in her early years, but she lived by practice makes perfect.

Arnold Reynard: An egotistical young man that highly believes he is better than anyone else. He fawns over his house and can be a bully. He’s still bitter that he didn’t get the Head Boy position, but is still content with being a top notch Hufflepuff prefect. Everything he does is by the book, one little mishap can get your house docked points. His knack for perfection has led him to pursuing a career in the Magical Trading Standards Body for the Department of International Magical Cooperation.

Rosalia Riverton: Studious, reserved, intelligent, creative, and elegant...a true Ravenclaw, but she is overshadowed by other students in popularity. She keeps herself in the know of different spells and charms she could use to help others. She often finds herself discussing new healing techniques with both Nicole and Heidi, making it her life's goal to become a healer despite all of the difficulties of learning every potential spell she could see on a day to day basis. She just hopes her talents won't be needed for a crisis. . .she just wants things to be like how they were...a time of peace.

Samuel Robertson: A bright and kind young man that has a fascination with how wands work and wants desperately to be a wandmaker to share his passion with others. Our main character that despite his cheery, creative, and loving nature, is often bullied for being muggle born and won’t fight back because of his conflict averse nature. Even though bullied, he is willing to help others, always giving them the benefit of the doubt. Samuel indeed finds himself craving the taste of adventure when he leaves Hogwarts. He plans on being an apprentice for Ollivander before going off to start his own wand shop somewhere. The U.S.? Australia? Canada? The choices are endless! He just hopes that he can see his friends again one day. He may not have had a lot, but the ones he did make left a lasting impact on him.

Lysandra Rowntree: A quiet, yet easily angered young lady that gets upset when even the slightest things go wrong. She always has a worst case scenario plan in mind. Usually, she keeps to herself and hates anything to do with gossip and rumors. When she isn't in the common room, great hall, or classes. . .she often finds herself tucked away in the corner of the library to research little known and lost pieces of magic. She has even found herself in the restricted Section on multiple occasions. Her goal is to become an Unspeakable in the Department of Mysteries.

Shawn Upton: Cunning and reserved, he prefers to hang out with one or two at most at a time. He flirts with evil, but finds change along the way. He can be a bit cold at times and it takes a while for him to warm up. Shawn knows that he and his friends will end up far apart on their journeys to self discovery. He hopes that getting a job at the Portkey Office at the ministry will allow him to see them from time to time.

Brian Valentine: A hard working young man that believes that the magical world is full of weird and unusual folk. He isn’t the biggest fan of that. He almost regrets not going to a muggle school instead of Hogwarts. Because of his upbringing with muggles and his lack of normality in the wizarding world, he chooses to manage the gift shop at St. Mungo's where he hopes to make a hefty profit and live as comfortably as possible.

Kelsey Valeria: A dramatic and elegant young lady that wishes to bring her acting talent to center stage. She often writes her own little scripts and gets her friends to help her practice on the weekends. After Hogwarts, she hopes to become an actress for the wizarding world. Her intentions are to go to Italy to perform, but she could deal with radio dramas around wizarding UK.

Freddie Veners: A muggle born that enjoys a good Quidditch game or two. He loves having a good laugh and enjoys moments of commotion. He’s the captain and chaser for the Ravenclaw Quidditch team...and he loves giving his best friend James Lawrence a rough time. He evens plays pranks with Lawrence from time to time, much to the dismay of the teachers. Freddie himself decides that he doesn't want to pursue Quidditch outside of Hogwarts and instead, continues to focus on his schoolwork to hopefully become an Obliviator in the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes for the Ministry.

Karmen Williams: A young lady that loves the music of the wizarding world and wants to bring her charisma to the airwaves. She practices her interviewing skills with Samuel whenever she gets a chance to see him. She hopes that one day she can get her own broadcast on the radio where she can interview new wizarding musicians and celebs!

Terrance Wilson: A young man that loves Quidditch and enjoys discussing the stats and scores. He can be a bit naïve and paranoid at a times. He never lets the paranoia get in the way of his A game though! He plays the role of Beater on the Ravenclaw team and adores every minute of the game. He truly wants to continue his Quidditch career after he graduates from Hogwarts. Terrance hopes to play for Pride of Portree or the Montrose Magpies. Even the Tutshill Tornados wouldn't be too bad!

Riana Wychwood: An elegant and refined young lady who loves music, but also has a passion and talent for divination. She makes sure to allot time for herself to practice her instrument at least half an hour everyday. She enjoys her position as Chaser on the Gryffindor Quidditch team, thankful her friend James Lawrence let her stay on the team throughout the years. Riana chooses to avoid prophecies when she can, choosing to focus on her music. Though, she plans to have a small divination shop to work in when the orchestra isn't playing.

Sarah Yielding: A happy go lucky young lady that supports her friend’s Quidditch team...when they aren’t playing each other that is. She often has to become the mediator between Gwenog and Heidi after the game if they lose. She plays the position of Keeper on the Hufflepuff Quidditch team. Sarah wants to open up her own tavern to serve the wizarding public and keep them up and refreshed!

Amy Zergona: A rule abiding young lady that wishes to one day work at the Ministry of Magic to keep her parents proud of her. Due to that fact, she prefers to study for hours on end instead of going on Hogsmeade trips or hanging out with her friends. Her love for rules has her wanting to become a worker in the Improper Use of Magic Office. If you can't follow the rules, warnings are required!

… well, mostly.

Recently I put out a call for romance novels set outside the United States, England, or Scotland – for extra difficulty, you could suggest ones without American or English main characters.

We ended up with a decent list! Because I have not personally read most of these, I can’t guarantee that every one has an HEA. If I suspect or know that a book doesn’t have a happy ending, I’ll note so with an ***.

In 2018, James starred in If Beale Street Could Talk, Barry Jenkins’s follow-up to the Oscar-winning Moonlight. He also starred in Amazon’s drama series Homecoming, opposite needs-no-introduction Julia Roberts. It was, by all measures, a big year for any actor but especially for one who is still shy of his 25th birthday. “I’ve been lucky to be a part of a lot of really cool things, and there are a lot of projects that are coming my way now, which is really cool,” James says. Both of these projects premiered at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) to critical acclaim, a moment especially poignant for the Scarborough, Ont., native.

“TIFF has always been one of my favourite times of the year,” he says. James, who got his start back in 2010 as an actor on Degrassi: The Next Generation, will appear next year in 17 Bridges alongside Chadwick Boseman, Sienna Miller, Taylor Kitsch and J. K. Simmons. “I’ve never done a film with this level of action,” he says. “So it’s an exciting film.” It’s probably safe to say that James can expect many more exciting firsts in the years to come. –Pahull Bains

In 2017, Megan Bülow was a virtually unknown 17-year-old high-school student in Holland. Then she released her first song, a synth-saturated, anti-romance anthem titled “Not a Love Song” that had music journalists across the web calling her a “pop genius.” The song went viral on SoundCloud and Spotify, but bülow (she dropped her first name and the capital B for her new gig in the spotlight) had to finish her senior year before becoming a full-fledged pop star. She wrote her final exams, and then the German-Canadian singer-songwriter moved to Toronto. The city welcomed her with open arms: bülow starred in Roots’s 2018 Sweatstyle campaign, performed at the iHeartRadio MMVAs and headlined a show at the iconic Mod Club. Up next? After her two successful EPs, fans are anxiously awaiting a full-length bülow album. We’re hoping 2019 will be the year. –Meghan McKenna

This statuesque Australian actress is no new kid on the block—you might remember her as Jordan Baker in The Great Gatsby or the gold-dipped Ayesha in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2—but this is the year we can expect to see her catapult firmly into the spotlight. At TIFF, it was impossible to hear any chatter about Widows—the buzzy new thriller from Steve McQueen—that didn’t involve ebullient praise of Debicki’s performance. And that wasn’t her only big TIFF premiere of the year. The 28-year-old actress also stars as a fragile but incandescent Virginia Woolf in Vita and Virginia.–Pahull Bains

There is plenty the world doesn’t agree on these days, but there is perhaps no topic quite as contentious and thorny as feminism. Which is why Toronto-based playwrights/actors Amy Nostbakken and Norah Sadava’s film Mouthpiece is so remarkable. In the film, which is an adaptation of their 2015 play, Nostbakken and Sadava play two often-sparring versions of the same character’s internal monologue. The story follows Cassandra as she grapples with the reality of her mother’s sudden death, reflecting on how her mother’s own feminism shaped her. “Social media has created this condition of extreme views,” says Sadava. “We’ve stopped giving ourselves time to process anything because it’s just about reacting. This film shows a woman processing difficult things. We need to start that internal monologue again.” –Pahull Bains

You know Karena Evans’s work even if you don’t know you know Karena Evans’s work. The Toronto native directed four of Drake’s 2018 music videos: “God’s Plan,” “Nice for What,” “I’m Upset” and “In My Feelings” as well as the video for SZA’s “Garden (Say It Like Dat)” featuring Donald Glover. Not content to just stay behind the camera, this past year she also starred in two feature films—Every Day and Firecrackers, the latter of which premiered at TIFF—and has a recurring role in Mary Kills People. encostou o queixo no ombro do marido, enquanto um sorriso de canto surgia em seus lábios; observar os filhos dormindo era algo que já adorava normalmente, mas, quando estavam tentando conseguir que ambos caíssem no sono ao mesmo tempo no decorrer do que deveria totalizar uma hora e meia, era maravilhoso. os gêmeos davam ainda mais trabalho que imaginou quando recebeu a notícia de que sua gestação não seria de somente um bebê, como estava nos planos inicialmente entre ambos, contudo, as semanas passavam e as coisas acabavam ficando um pouco mais fáceis. “achei que não iriam dormir nunca. ele estava acordando toda vez que um de nós cuidava a maddie, ou eu estou ficando louca de vez?” a mulher questionou ao mais alto, aproveitando a proximidade de ambos para utilizar um tom baixo para a sua voz e, assim, evitar aumentarem as chances de acordarem eles de novo. estava exausta, e poderia imaginar que jacob não estava em uma posição tão distinta. “o theo é sempre meio ciumento… acha que devemos ficar de olho?” não seria nada que resolveria naquele momento, em todo caso, mas não havia deixado de perceber que o filho sempre requeria um pouco mais de atenção de ambos. “mas eles parecem estar bem, não é? com essas carinhas, quem diria o potencial vocal que tem…” revirou os olhos, encostando os lábios no ombro de jacob para abafar o som de uma risadinha que escapava - não queria correr o risco de acordá-los novamente.

quando retornaram ao apartamento do rhodes, ainda estava atordoada. a noite toda havia sido uma bagunça que teria de organizar em sua mente ao acordar na manhã seguinte, porque eram três e meia da madrugada e a exaustão estava tomando conta de si. tinha acordado mais cedo que o normal no dia anterior para organizar algumas coisas no trabalho antes que os demais funcionários chegassem e, com tudo o que tinha acontecido naquela noite, era compreensível o seu cansaço. caso o ex-namorado não a tivesse chamado, talvez só se desse conta no dia seguinte que estava uma completa bagunça. estivera o tempo inteiro tão preocupada com o cachorrinho que esquecera de si mesma por algumas horas. mas, a veterinária tinha dito que ele estava bem, apesar do susto, e imaginava que estar farejando pela sala do apartamento de jacob era um bom sinal. no mínimo, parecia confortável no lugar. então, maneando sua cabeça em concordância, seguiu o ex em direção ao quarto.

estava mais acostumada com a convivência de ambos após o baque inicial de seu reencontro e, quando passava a noite com ele, não era nenhuma surpresa que acabasse pegando uma de suas peças de roupa; portanto, sabia exatamente onde ir para pegar uma camisa em que poderia dormir. ainda não tinha dito expressamente a ele que pretendia dormir em seu apartamento, contudo, imaginava que poderia estar a ele sendo um pouco óbvio que aquilo aconteceria; era realmente tarde, e não valeria a pena correr atrás de um uber por estar sem o seu carro até segunda ordem. havia conseguido mandar uma mensagem a jasper, pelo menos, pedindo que fosse de manhã ver como estavam fiona e alanis - que adoravam ele, e certamente adorariam sair para caminhar em sua companhia -, então estava um pouco mais tranquila e com a consciência pesando menos em deixá-las sozinhas. com uma camisa em mãos - uma que estava criando o hábito de usar, com a estampa do time de futebol americano para o qual jacob torcia -, sienna se virou de costas e afastou o cabelo para a frente de seus ombros, para que o ex-namorado a ajudasse com o fecho. “obrigada, jake.” murmurou, virando a cabeça para trás para vê-lo rapidamente. pegou, então, o vestido do chão e o jogou sobre uma cadeira próxima. quando vestiu a camisa, sentiu a dor em seu braço novamente, deixando escapar um grunhido baixo. “que merda… não sei onde eu bati.” ela sabia, contudo, que deveria ter sido ainda dentro do carro.

tocou com a ponta dos dedos em sua testa, tentando encontrar o ponto em que estava doendo, até achar novamente o corte que tinha sentido mais cedo. estivera tão aturdida com a ida na clínica que esqueceu de checar como deveria estar, e conseguia sentir um pouco de sangue seco sobre a pele. “você sabe que não precisava ter ido hoje, né? não deveria ter ligado pra você, acho que fodi toda a sua noite com isso. me desculpa.” não era o tipo de coisa que faria normalmente, quando já tinha ligado para o ex-namorado de noite por motivos muito menos nobres que aquele. porém, estava se sentindo culpada com tudo o que tinha acontecido, e não gostava da ideia de tê-lo arrastado junto em sua bagunça. “mas, obrigada. não iria querer outra pessoa comigo naquilo tudo. você sempre soube me acalmar.” curvou os cantos de seus lábios num esboço de sorriso, o mais próximo que conseguiria naquela noite; em seguida, tocou com o polegar no queixo masculino, acariciando a área com suavidade. “não vai mesmo te atrapalhar mais se eu ficar aqui hoje? não é a sua obrigação olhar o meu carro, sei lá, você deve ter outras coisas pra fazer.” não queria se sentir com ainda mais culpa naquela história, então, quis reafirmar novamente com jacob. ele nunca a havia despertado nenhum desconforto ou insegurança em suas ações, desde o primeiro dia em que se conheceram, tudo sempre fora muito natural entre ambos, não estava assim por isso; a questão a incomodá-la era que estavam ainda tentando encontrar o sentido na relação agora que conviviam outra vez, após todos os anos em que estiveram afastados, e a dor que sienna tinha causado nele. ainda pisavam em ovos um com o outro em alguns pontos, e não queria acabar retrocedendo seu avanço.

pegou a mão do homem, o puxando na direção do banheiro; precisaria de ajuda para limpar o corte, e o que mais houvesse que não tinha notado ainda. impulsionou o corpo de maneira a sentar no balcão, um hábito desenvolvido no decorrer dos anos. “teria como ele ficar com você por uns dias? enquanto a gente pensa no que fazer.” estava o incluindo, porque, bom… tinha visto o jeito como jacob olhara para o cachorro, e conseguia ver algo por trás daquilo. “no meu apartamento fica complicado dele ficar de primeira, porque as meninas são um pouco ciumentas, e… não gostam de cachorros que não conhecem. não gostam nem dos que elas conhecem, no caso da alanis.” coçou a nuca, sem saber porque o pensamento das reclamações caninas a fazia quase rir. “e ele parece ter gostado daqui de primeira. imagina, você poderia ganhar um amiguinho também… ele pareceu gostar de você. poderiam fazer bem um pro outro.” sugeriu, esticando o braço para puxar o homem um pouco mais para perto e entrelaçar os seus dedos. “o que você acha? podemos voltar amanhã na veterinária, ir atrás de algumas coisas pra ele… pelo menos, uma pacote de ração e alguns brinquedos. um pote novo, e uma caminha. talvez uma coleira. mas ele vai precisar de um nome pro pingente.” poder falar de uma maneira tão positiva sobre o cachorrinho a tranquilizava naquele momento. talvez, como sua melhor amiga costumava gostar tanto de falar, poderiam tirar algo bom de tudo aquilo. “tem alguma ideia?” se não estivesse abalada, sem querer causar alguma estranheza maior entre eles, poderia até ter pensado em alguma piada sobre como seria praticamente o filho deles. com os dígitos da mão livre, afastou os fios de cabelo que cobriam uma parte do corte em sua testa. “tá muito feio?”

give me a character and i’ll give you 10+ headcannons: sienna st. james.

o relacionamento com a mãe sempre foi complicado e, diferente de com o pai, ela nunca conheceu outra realidade. as trocas de farpas entre as duas vem desde que sienna se lembra, assim como os comentários ácidos da mãe que traziam inseguranças que não teria criado tão rápido sozinha. a faziam se questionar se tinha algo a oferecer, se alguém teria interesse genuíno em escutá-la, ou se seria tão dispensável quanto sua mãe afirmava - entre outras várias inseguranças que permanecem até o presente. sempre acaba saindo magoada e irritada das conversas com a mãe, mas às vezes ainda a encontra para almoçar ou jantar - o que sempre acaba com ela ouvindo o que não queria. um dos comentários dela que mais a marcou foi a declaração de que se arrependia de ter sido mãe - sendo ela sua única filha -, e que poderia ter se divorciado muitos anos antes caso não a tivesse.

durante a infância, o pai era seu herói; sempre pedia às babás que ligassem para ele enquanto viajava e que a levassem para vê-lo em seu escritório nas empresas da família - ele nunca estava em casa. tudo começou a mudar com a adolescência, quando a personalidade se moldava de forma que não agradava o pai, e ele não via mais valor em quem era. ou, melhor, não gostava de como não era mais tão fácil controlar a filha. quando queria falar com ele, era mandada parar de atrapalhar. suas brigas cada vez mais se intensificavam, e escutava dele como era inútil, uma decepção, fraca e despreparada, e constantemente tinham discussões públicas - e, sem perceber, começou a fazer de tudo para tentar chamar sua atenção.

quando tudo ocorreu com jacob, não queria nunca mais olhar para o pai, porque não acreditava que conseguiria perdoar tê-la obrigado a fazer aquilo. desde então, passam meses sem se falar às vezes, mas o pai sempre busca contato de novo ao apelar para a insistência e a necessidade de se manterem uma família. nunca pode perdoá-lo por tudo, e o que a leva a não conseguir cortar totalmente contato é que uma parte sua sente falta de como tudo era antes. justamente porque seu pai, em vários momentos, age como se fosse a sua filha querida e tente apelar para o seu emocional constantemente.

sempre teve medo de se tornar mãe e acabar destruindo a criança da forma como seus pais fizeram consigo. entretanto, tudo se tornou ainda mais forte quando sua mãe disse que tinha tomado a decisão certa em não ter filhos ainda, porque não a via sendo feita para aquilo. jacob é o único com quem a ideia de ter algum tipo de família a deixa feliz e até esperaçosa, de tanto que confia nele. sempre o enxergou como protetor e leal e, por mais que talvez ele não veja, como alguém carinhoso e gentil com quem ama. por isso, nunca nem teve dúvidas de que jacob seria o melhor pai para os filhos deles. apesar do medo inicial de estragar tudo, se apaixonou completamente pela ideia de ser mãe ao estar grávida dos gêmeos, que já eram tudo para sienna desde o princípio - e faria tudo por seus filhos.

nunca quis nada com os negócios da família, o que gerou incontáveis discussões entre ambos - gerard gostava de lembrar a filha que estava lhe enchendo de vergonha em fazer sua vida 'naquela porcaria'. estudou na universidade tradicional para sua família família, cornell university, mas sempre trabalhou no ramo da moda. já alternou entre algumas marcas com os anos, mas atualmente é a supervisora da parte de compras da michael kors de são francisco, e ama seu trabalho - tendo carolina martinez como sua estagiária favorita.

esteve com christopher por dois anos, terminados por aproximadamente um ano e meio. até gostava dele, afirmava a si mesma que poderia acabar o amando, mas nunca aconteceu. a pressão de tornar a relação algo mais a incomodava, além de questões de ciúmes, e no aparente desinteresse nela além de achá-la divertida e despreocupada. quando ele anunciou que teria que ficar em nova york por alguns meses a trabalho, aproveitou a desculpa para terminar sem ressentimentos. desde o retorno dele, vez ou outra saem para jantar e trocam mensagens, o que às vezes leva a passar a noite com ele. o chama quando está se sentindo sozinha e carente, e sempre fala que não vão voltar com a relação - mesmo que ele ignore isso.

sair com jacob, inicialmente, era a forma perfeita de aterrorizar seus pais e ter um pouco de diversão com um cara bonito. porém, após uma semana conhecendo o rhodes, estava já se apaixonando por ele. o que tinham em comum, os assuntos que saíam tão naturalmente, as conversas que se estendiam até o amanhecer, o jeito que ele a compreendia... era como a primeira vez em que alguém a conhecia de verdade e ainda assim gostava do que via. desde o início, acreditava que eram feitos um para o outro. queria aprender sobre o que ele gostava, ser amiga de seus amigos; pediu para ensinar dos esportes favoritos, mostrar os lugares em que gostava de ir, até quis que ele a ensinasse a andar de moto.

não gosta de mostrar o seu lado mais vulnerável aos outros. em muitas vezes, se sente muito mais confortável quando vista como uma boa companhia, alguém que tem confiança para dar e vender, do que como a pessoa insegura que é no fundo. frequentemente se questiona se não é uma pessoa ruim ao ponto de não ser o suficiente de verdade para os outros, que só vai estragar tudo uma hora ou outra e acabar completamente sozinha - ou descobrir que é exatamente como seus pais. sua insegurança se manifesta em coisas como continuar mantendo quem a faz mal em sua vida - como o ex - apenas por querer a atenção e se sentir querida ou desejada, em precisar de reafirmações alheias, ou em ciúmes.

passar a noite no apartamento de jacob havia se tornado mais uma vez um hábito entre ambos, assim como tê-lo no seu. permaneciam com o relacionamento um tanto instável, repleto de toda aquela complexidade adquirida com a bagagem que carregavam desde a separação e o reencontro, mas sienna acreditava existir esperança de que estavam se encaminhando para uma possível resolução. suas brigas não eram mais tão mordazes e recorrentes, e o encontrava consideravelmente mais receptivo sobre sua proximidade e o desejo de estar ao seu lado apesar de tudo. em certo ponto, admitia a si própria o quão surreal era estarem com resquícios de como era a sua relação anterior e de o homem realmente estar na sua vida outra vez, porque, por mais que ansiasse pelo seu perdão, compreendia que era complicado; que não fazia a menor ideia de como agiria caso estivesse na posição dele. e não estava na posição de entender em algum momento como jacob deveria se sentir sobre tudo aquilo, não apenas agora, mas desde o princípio de toda aquela história. havia falhado muito com ele, e nunca poderia se perdoar completamente.

não queria desperdiçar nem mais um minuto ao lado dele. especialmente quando as coisas pareciam ter melhorado, ou, apenas, indicado que poderiam se tornar melhores. nunca sabia quando ele poderia ter uma mudança de opinião quanto à seu relacionamento, por pensamentos próprios ou através de influências de outros que a st. james estava certa de que não apoiariam a sua reaproximação, portanto, gostava de aproveitar sempre que poderia simplesmente se aconchegar em seus braços e esquecer de tudo o que existia de tão complicado no entorno deles. quando poderiam ser somente sienna e jacob e, por aquelas poucas horas, deixarem para lá qualquer coisa que não envolvesse a saudade, o amor e o carinho que permaneciam entre ambos. sua cabeça permanecia sobre o peito do rhodes, e seu braço esquerdo envolvia o abdômen dele, desde que sentiu seus braços a puxando mais perto na cama. sempre desejava estar o mais próxima possível dele, uma característica mantida desde o princípio de seu namoro, e que somente se tornava ainda mais fixa com toda a saudade que parecia ter dele mesmo que estivessem na vida um do outro de novo. “lembra de quando a gente fez elas?” o questionou, quando sua visão acabou pairando sobre a tatuagem que o outro possuía em seu peito. a mesma que combinava, para ambos, com a que marcava o próprio pulso esquerdo. “nossa, ‘tava frio pra caralho naquela noite… você acabou precisando me emprestar o seu moletom, porque eu tinha insistido em usar aquele vestidinho de alça só porque era mais bonito pra sair, mesmo que a gente só fosse ver os seus amigos naquele bar perto da sua casa. aí fiquei me sentindo um saco de batata naquilo, porque ficava grande em você, e enorme em mim. e você insistia que eu ‘tava linda.” riu baixinho, deixando um beijo carinhoso sobre o peito masculino. "não me lembro exatamente a desculpa que a gente usou pra vazar dali, mas lembro de ter sido tão ruim que ainda consigo me lembrar da cara que a sua amiga fez."

os dedos que repousavam sobre a área de sua cintura subiram até a tatuagem, o toque suave seguindo por sua pele. percorria as letras com toda a atenção, como se não o houvesse feito dezenas de vezes em outros momentos. porém, naquele ponto de seu relacionamento, não acreditava o ter realizado tão atentamente. “eu sempre gostei muito dela. é brega pra caralho esse tipo de coisa, tudo bem, reconheço, mas a ideia de você ser meu até desse jeito… amava pensar que sempre tinha uma parte minha com você.” durante bastante tempo depois que o relacionamento tinha acabado, ocasionalmente sienna se pegava encarando e tocando na tatuagem que tinha em seu próprio pulso, simbolizando a data em que haviam se conhecido. era especial e, para ela, única. possuía algumas outras tatuagens, mas nenhuma com um significado como aquele. por mais que se sentisse estranha em admitir, era um pequeno conforto sentir os números em sua pele quando ter um único toque dele não era mais possível. “a gente falava muito isso, não é? eu amava pensar desse jeito. que a gente se pertencia.” utilizar somente o passado não encaixava na maneira como se sentia, mas, não queria ultrapassar algum limite enquanto estavam tão bem naquele momento. se contentaria com a ideia de como eram antes, e não doeria tanto falar aquilo. não esperava, obviamente, pelo que o rhodes acabaria pronunciando algum tempo após. queria questioná-lo de imediato se estava falando sério, que não havia escutado errado, mas temia acabar estragando aquilo. não queria que ele repensasse toda sua declaração apenas por colocar um peso maior naquilo. contudo, não era capaz de conter um sorriso. ele afirmar que era dela, outra vez… por deus, seria capaz de chorar se pensasse naquilo por muito tempo. apoiou a mão sobre o colchão e se ergueu de maneira a poder olhar ele com mais atenção. “ah, é?” conseguiu soltar em um primeiro momento. observar aquele rosto que conhecia tão bem parecia ser o suficiente para sienna amá-lo cada vez mais. “ainda bem que você sabe.” declarou. aproveitando que estava mais próxima do rosto de jacob daquela forma, encostou seus lábios nos alheios para um beijo rápido. “babe, você realmente é meu. desde aquele primeiro dia, você sempre foi, não é? eu tenho certeza, porque eu me tornei sua assim que senti as suas mãos em mim e vi o seu sorriso pela primeira vez.” a maneira com que tinham se conhecido não era das mais convencionais e, certamente, não das mais éticas, visto que jacob estava em um relacionamento na época - que, por mais irônico que fosse, havia sido com mesma mulher com quem possuía um casamento no papel atualmente. mas não importava, a única coisa que possuía valor naquilo era como ficou claro desde a sua primeira interação que existia a faísca de algo muito maior entre eles. “se não te conhecesse, iria achar que você disse isso porque também queria me ouvir dizendo que sou sua.” murmurou, sorrindo de canto ao se aproximar o suficiente para neocstar a sua testa na dele - preferia deixar com que ele tivesse a iniciativa de beijá-la, dessa vez.
