The Bravery SOUL. so normal about it Shotout to n4rval's Gaster who got me thinking about the two humans‼️ Stares

(Patience not included as it's just plain good ol 'Your Best Friend' throughout) Why does the theme sound so NERDY. All the other SOULs, even Kindness, sound serious. And it would be logical for Perseverance to sounds like that, but nope: it's Bravery's theme.

When I listen to Kindness' theme, it associates with defending oneself, Perseverance with calculating your next moves, while Justice focuses on the opponent's.

Integrity is hard, its creepiness strays me from my line of thought, but most fitting would be 'attacking'. The dustiness of the tutu doesn't play a role in my choice and it's likely that neither of the humans killed anyone, as it would instill at least some fear into monsters and, y'know', be mentioned at least somewhere. But self-defense is still an option, though! Doesn't have to go as far as murder. Nerdy, and many people have pointed out the presence of Gaster's leitmotif in there.

And, well, these. Just some silly things. Personally I think Gaster could've dealt with two humans after Chara, namely Patience and Bravery. The Patience and Bravery weren't used for the reason of being excessive (I feel like 4 SOUL modes is enough) and Toby not having ideas about how such a SOUL mode could be even executed (the OVERTIME one has a special place in hell). But if looking at it from an in-universe perspective, what if Gaster utilized the SOUL power for lasers? I think a monster's SOUL combines every human trait in it, making it white. Like RGB. So they can also use colored attacks, which have a unique effect. The Royal Guard uses blue attacks to hinder the movement of their target, or, more specifically, a human. Same goes for sentries like Sans and Papyrus. Woshua uses them so you could stand still and let it cleanse you. Hard to say why Gyftrot would, but hey! It's a personal choice, so why not? Orange attacks are very scarce and only one monster exclusively uses that type of attack, and not a combo. Tthat monster being Pyrope. When it comes to switching between these two, Mettaton uses both because of the lasers prominent in the CORE and Hotland, while also being a robot, which, I suppose, makes the utilization easier. Asgore, unlike Undyne, isn't adamant on his target being still to the point of rendering it immobile, so he uses blue attacks instead like the rest of the Royal Guard, while also mixing them with orange ones to disorient the human. So Sorry is a weird case. They attack you but are also sorry for that. (Asgore-style) ..They're quite the character. Green attacks are self-explanatory. Also got a silly idea: what if, since a monster's SOUL is all traits mixed together, white attacks damage you since that is also applicable to them? If you make an orange and a blue attack into one, then it turns into an attack that damages you upon contact either way. But strong monsters, like the main cast, can turn your SOUL a different color. Which, too, is connected to the fact that a monster SOUL consists of every trait, so it can be any color. I already talked about Undyne above. Sans rarely even fights, but in the one instance that he does, it's the sins weighing on our SOUL. Papyrus views the whole fighting thing differently, so for him it's about the challenge. The art of fighting. The purple and yellow modes are a bit weird, the latter one especially. But Muffet uses the former one over the green one due to her playfulness. The purpose of the yellow mode is hard pin down, because it doesn't inconvenience you in any way. But a SOUL is a SOUL, so naturally, SOUL magic would affect them as well. The yellow mode could be used to aid monsters and allow them to get more precise hits? My point is, monsters using either of these (colored attacks and SOUL modes) is natural. What Gaster did was to use that power a bit differently, fusing it with technology.

I feel like Bravery stayed with Gaster for a bit longer than Patience, hence the amount of connections. But if we're going off of Flowey's order of the six SOULs, Patience died first. Bravery dies shortly afterwards. Very reminiscent of the Dreemurrs, isn't it? Ouch. Imagine searching for them and finding out that you arrived a bit late to the scene. Gaster, probably: human...... i know your BRAVE.

swapped or not, papyrus is still a silly little guy (tm) in every universe. unlike ut! sans' suave first meeting with the human, your first encounter with him in snowdin forest is just mostly him being a silly little guy (tm).

he's never exactly seen a human before, so he just stumbles over his words trying to deduce whether or not this strange child is actually a human. chara just found the whole thing funny.

papyrus dedicates himself as chara's current guardian & guide through snowdin, so he hides them from his brother with the best of his abilities. ("quickly now human (?), hide behind that oddly convenient, human(??)-shaped lamp.")

he acts so off - sans immediately realizes that yeah, his brother is definitely hiding something from him. he'll continue to play along with papyrus though, and just for fun, he'll throw in a few puns too. cue papyrus going through 3 minutes of sans' "unsufferable sense of humor" and being FORCED to endure it because the human (???) IS STILL HIDING BEHIND THAT LAMP DAMN IT. HE CAN'T LEAVE THEM HERE.

by the time sans actually leaves, papyrus is on the ground & is fucking drained. chara just waddles over to him & drags him with them to continue on their way.

when sans actually spots the human child with papyrus, he just stares. papyrus,, that's a human,, we're basically going against the law,, papyrus,,

he gets over it quickly though once he sees that his younger brother is getting along rather well with the human. don't get him wrong, he's still torn on "capturing" the human. monsterkind is so close to freedom - his brother is so close to FINALLY experiencing the surface. but at the same time.. this is a kid?? he's not sure he can kill a kid - especially one that his brother seems to be getting along with spectacularly well.

sans just.. decides to go along with it, just a little bit longer (for papyrus' sake). papyrus tries to pretend that he's not aiding the human but anyone with working eyes can see that yeah, no.

sans urges papyrus to try out the puzzles he contructs in his free time on the human & papyrus is ecstatic at the idea. chara decides to go along with it with slight reluctance after papyrus reassures them that the puzzles are all relatively safe.

suffice to say, everyone has a blast.

chara gets to try out some complicated & admittedly really fun puzzles. (it's the most fun they've had in a long time)

papyrus gets a new friend in the form of a human child who seems to genuinely enjoy HIS puzzles.

and sans.. he's just glad to see his brother having a great time.

QSMP Shugo Chara AU BEGINNINGS

This is all for fun and is within realms of fiction only

I came up with it just as something silly and also because Shugo Chara's concept is so fun to play with (egg.. egg anime...)

SUMMARY OF SHUGO CHARA'S UNIVERSE (For those who do not know)

Shugo Chara is a manga series from 2005 with an anime adaptation that ran from 2007 to 2010, this AU will not feature any of the characters from the original series, but may reference and will use aspects from it

Every child has an egg(s) within them (Heart's Egg) that represents their would-be selves or who they want to be more like in a particular aspect (ex: be more athletic, artistic, etc.)

These eggs, at the right time of discovering who they are or want to be, hatch into "Guardian Characters" and are able to go through Character Changes (temporary boost in a particular aspect that the character is talented in) and through an item known as Humpty Lock, Character Transformations (transformations that use abilities that complement the talents)

Eggs have the potential to be corrupted by negative thoughts and emotions, corrupting into what's known as X-Eggs

QSMP Aspects

All Guardian Characters are based on the q! Versions / QSMP versions of the streamers' respective characters from events that occured within the QSMP only (unless otherwise stated to have references from previous series canonically)

Every parent will be included in this AU, including those that are inactive

Every egg child is associated with their parents, this does mean that Pomme and Richas will have more eggs than the others and this does technically break Shugo Chara canon since it's uncommon to have more than one (with a few exceptions)

The Federation does play a role similar to Easter does in Shugo Chara canon but it's not exact

21- Something you’ve kept since childhood?:

Fairytale books!! One of my most prized possessions is a book that's like a "bestiary" for kids, with watercolor illustrations of creatures and fairies and little descriptions of each.

Two of my childhood plushies! One of them is going to be 24 years old soon. At this point that lion plushie is going to be forever with me, I'll be buried with it.

1- who is/are your comfort character(s)?: Okay this question goes under a read more because, it got too extensive

If you pay attention to this blog, you'll see i never shut up about Bungo Stray Dogs Ryuunosuke Akutagawa. But he isn't my comfort character (he gives me pain most of the time /hj) in fact, my comfort chara is Beast! Akutagawa:

He's the same character, but from the alternate universe presented in the bsd Beast light novel/manga adaptation. Basically, Akutagawa if he never got recruited into the mafia. I'd yap more about him but i already made a post however, i'll explain why he is here:

When i first read the main manga, i didn't care a lot about Akutagawa, it was until i read the Beast manga i started to open myself up, and there's something about him, about the fact that it doesn't matter how ugly of a person you are, how much self loathing you harbor for yourself, still there will be opportunities for you to be better, make better choices, have people who will support you in that difficult path. And, in turn, you can become that person for others (like beast Aku did with Atsushi).

I'm not going to lie, reading this manga threw me into turmoil more than once. There was a fair deal of projection as i read about Akutagawa's struggles, and his character development felt like a blow to the heart to me.

Plus, he has his fair share of silly moments, and takes his roasted tea with four sugar cubes iirc. Sweet tooth counter: 1

Also, from bsd, Ranpo Edogawa:

Okay so, I've a soft spot for characters who are childish, and look at the world from an unique perspective. Ranpo was actually the very first bsd chara i got attached to, and i liked him because he was a brat. At first he was a little shit, the worst coworker you could ask for (love it. v/ realistic) but the more you see of him, you'll notice how he can put aside his apparent selfishness and get serious.

When watching the anime adaptation of The Untold Origins of the Detective Agency light novel (the one where they show his backstory) i could not help but hardcore emphatize with him (and also project, recurring theme with all these charas 😅)

You have a kid who lost his family, got shunned by every adult he turned to for being too smart and too sincere, who met at the right time with a person who not only didn't dismiss him, but appreciated his insights, and Ranpo got too attached because someone was actually making the effort to understand him. That person would become his family later. Again, finding a place to belong and people who would accept you, and in turn giving that kindness to others (wow it's like this is one of the core themes of the manga. the sky is blue, water feels wet).

Looking back to Yosano's backstory, and the kind words (KIND WORDS!! RANPO? KIND? yes very real and true) he gave to her. The fact he went out of his way to retrieve her butterfly brooch. It's these little moments that make me appreciate Ranpo the most. That, and the fact that he puts aside all his pride when it comes to admit he fucks up. He might look conceited, but he really isn't...

Plus, he's loud, and silly, and scattered, and has a sweet tooth. (Sweet tooth counter: 2). Likes animals. He even can't use public transport properly at 26 y/o. Just like me fr...

Next a character i don't get to talk about a lot but she was the VERY FIRST character that i said ohhhh my god. I love you. You are me. What the hell... Annette Fantine Dominic from Fire Emblem Three Houses/Three Hopes:

Annette is super important to me. She's a person who is smart, but as a result of a continuous effort (she's a very good student, hardworking and diligent). And she kind of reminds me of myself when i was on hs. This doesn't mean she resents naturally talented ppl (her support conversations with Sylvain, another chara from the game, are some of the BEST in three houses).

Still, she feels the need to overachieve and overcompensate because her father, who's a knight, left her family when she was young so he could fulfil his duty to the kingdom and completely ignores the fact he has a daughter to take care of. Annette, kind of thinks that if she doesn't strive for perfection, people around her would leave like her dad did.

And she's always cheery, and puts up a smile, and tends to not recognize her talents (ex. she likes to sing about silly stuff, and does it really well, other charas point it out and Annie does not believe them at first, she tends to hold herself down). I'd talk more about her but it's been a while since i revisited fe3h...

Other things i like about her: She's 150cm tall and her personal weapon is a big ass magical hammer made of dragon bones called "Crusher". The first time she fights/defeats/kills someone in the game she asks her professor if she did okay. Likes cooking but ends up setting everything on fire (just like me... fr....) AND also has a sweet tooth (sweet tooth counter: 3)

Recently i got very. Very into Ensemble Stars, and a big part of it is these two (i talk less than i want to about them bc i still don't have all the facts, haven't read all their stories. But the fact they became SO important to me in such little time needs to be scientifically studied):

Mika Kagehira:

Mika is like crack cocaine for my brain. I got attached to him at first because 1- He was the very second card i got in the game and it made me curious. 2- His singing voice is so angelic (i know it doesn't have anything to do with the actual character, but there's something about Mika, who is very unkempt at times, struggles to take care of himself, actually having very clean vocals while performing. just a thought).

He's childish, and a lil (if you squint) obsessive, struggles with humanity (has a whole issue about being doll-like that he's trying to leave behind now) shy but will NOT hesitate to fight people. What i like about him the most, is his empathy. He stood beside his mentor/friend/obsessive crush???? when he had a breakdown and helped him get back up... A lot of times he shows concern for other characters and is up to giving good advice (Kohaku in tale of antiques comes to mind, and Midori in the Doll House scout story too).

(BY THE WAY, said mentor also constantly helps Mika when he's struggling and their relationship becomes healthier with time.. i am starting to think... there's a pattern here in what themes i tend to get attached to)

What else. His awful (affectionate) fashion sense. The fact he scavenges and repairs broken objects and plushies. He's an emo guy who has a card where he has blood on his hands and looks ecstatic about it. The chainsaw CG. The fact that he can't express his thoughts properly sometimes and getting misunderstood gets him down (ouch that happens to me) His favorite food is candy. Sweet tooth counter: 4

Last but not least, Leo Tsukinaga:

LEO i did not expect him to make it to my favs at first but he IS my favorite ensemble stars character ever on account of how many times i've screenshotted things he said. He reminds me of Ranpo a little bit personality wise, and the fact they're both geniuses. (who have struggled badly because of it). That and, being the ultimate sillies. (I've said it before, all my favs have to be a lil cringefail)

He always expects the best of ppl and the world around him, and that's his biggest weakness, that naiveté. After reading Checkmate i got genuinely sad for him, and the stories i read where ppl kept taking advantage of him made me angry (?) I find his general whimsy and unpredictableness(?) very endearing. He once said he hated Mozart and irl Mozart was also a very whimsical unserious person. (I wonder if they got compared alot and Leo grew tired of it).

Again it doesn't seem like so at first, but he cares SO MUCH about his friends. Izumi and Madara come to mind first. And even though he's a scatterbrain and has said, multiple times, that explaining himself is hard and that's why he prefers the language of music (one everyone can understand) i still remember his lines to Kohaku in sudden death, where he thanked him for being by Madara's side. I absolutely did not expect that. And i feel i've to mention this one line from night patrollers:

Something i found in common between both mika and leo and probably Annette too is that they often refer to themselves as dumb??? but they ARE NOT they are really perceptive... i am hugging them both as i write this.

I couldn't recall if Leo likes sweet things. The sweet tooth total is 4. What else, he once got hipnotized into behaving like a cat but it was almost unnoticeable because he already acts like one. broke into his artistic rival's atelier in Paris just because he liked hanging out in there (iirc), does not take criticisms to his music/art very well (understandable 100%), goes from zero to 100 in 2 seconds. Dislikes sex jokes (ace king???) i <3 him.

There's so much i want to say about all of them but i can't. I'm insanely bad with words but i don't get to talk alot about these charas (the self consciousness eats me alive) and this was the perfect opportunity<3 Anywayyyy if you look for a pattern in here you'll sure find it

WELCOME TO THE UNDERTALE FANDOM OF 2015-16; if you were at all involved with the popular fandom AU blogs / circles of the time & you had a favorite character IN these fandom spaces ( lots of sans & papyruses as the top figureheads from what all i could see ), you could technically “ adopt “ them through the form of a “ bitty! “

“ a BITTY! “ you eagerly declare, albeit very confused, “ now, what is a ‘ bitty? ‘ “

from what i can remember based on experience -- don’t quote me on this as it’s OFFICIAL definition, but a bitty was like... a smaller, tinier, slightly dumber “ pet “ version of whatever character you liked & wanted to “ adopt “ from; just a little Thing you could take care of & interact with, & have interact with your home, life, work, other pets, or even other bitties you could adopt of other characters--  THIS all in a fictional, roleplay fashion, of course. it was one mass roleplay. but, a dedicated fictional, roleplaying fashion nonetheless! a lot of times, bitties included little references & lists from the sources of the original character or the bitty adjacent creator ( often times the same person ), instructing their potential “ owners “ how best to take care of them, what requirements are needed, a bitty character’s likes & dislikes, etc.

& you’d see people drawing their little adopted blorbos ( not yet named blorbos at the time ) roaming around their houses, playing or getting the shit beat out of them by other bitties, & everyone & their mom played around with the idea of these little character pets, describing how they lived their lives alongside their bitties & such. i remember creators getting bomBARDED with “ updates “ of the life & times of these little bitties, or requests to adopt one EVERY SINGLE DAY if you were popular enough for everyone to want a fractal of your character to play around with themselves,

IT WAS... interesting. an interesting concept during an interesting time. & still, i have no idea if this leaked out into other fandoms or- hell, even other CHARACTERS in the mass undertale au universe. probably & i just wasn’t paying attention. i missed out on a nice little chara bitty :( /silly

so, this is ariel!! she is 22, she, 157 cm, and her whole story is about the differences between her online/offline self. she streams online and is a camgirl, and shes very cutesy and pandering there, but irl shes very tough and aggressive, will not hesitate to confront and fight a bitch. shes also a prostitute <3 she was actually the first oc i made for fun one day that started my whole oc universe! so i love her a lot shes my fave oc :) shes very >:3c embodiment, loves chaos, loves fashion, going to bars/clubs, lazing around with the other 2 charas that are her besties! i gave her a carrd, a tumblr, and here is her pinterest board :3

this is alan! he is 23, he, 190 cm. he's went through a LOT of personality changes and its really funny to see what he has become because i originally made him to be a whumper for an old hyperfixation chara...!? but anyway... he's a drug dealer and has a ton of issues. he's very down and gloomy and genuinely depressed as fuck. but he and ariel have been friends ever since they were teens and have grown to adapt around each other if that makes sense? they're very similar in a lot of ways. he loves chaos and shit as well and also would fight a bitch, except he would actually hesitate, unlike ariel. he's not online at all that's just ariel's thing, he doesn't really know how to dress himself, he kinda just fights for his life everyday tbh. he and ariel are VERY GOOD FRIENDS !! they are at the secret third thing stage of their relationship. wlw mlm solidarity. you would not want to be friends with them.

and finally, maya!! she is 17, she, 163 cm. she is very sweet and lovely, deeply traumatized girl (they all are tbh). shes a big factor in my "main" story like, ariel and alan help her deal with something Really Bad, and they fall in love with her, not romantically, just in the I need to protect you and have you live safely and comfortably forever type of way. don't rlly feel like going into main story details tho aghusidfsdf. maya watched ariel and alan from afar in the past, daydreaming of a life where she knew them and she had all these fantasies and thoughts abt them bc she was just so curious abt them. she had a rlly bad home life and they often saw her wandering the streets n stuff but there wasn't rlly anything they could do besides help her out w little things every now n then. she becomes someone whos very silly and sweet with a bit of a dark side bc like shes got ariel and alan as company IHUSDIFHSD. its a whole thing.

stanley truly having agency is one of my favorite parts of tsp canon. in the bucket destroyer ending, for example, he very clearly is holding it tighter rather than putting it in the bucket destroyer. he’s not just defying the narrator, he’s defying US. the player. he is not just a vessel—he is a person within his universe!

i really love that in games, when you’ve got a personality-less protagonist who’s just a blank slate for you to project upon but you look closer and you realize they’ve been there all along. undertale does this very well, and with tsp it’s subtler—but it’s there. stanley can make choices, and any choice we make for him is merely our experience of every possible choice he could have made. you know?

I find this fascinating and I need to rewatch the bucket destroyer ending (I've gotten so used to just having the game audio as a bg tab that I havent really WATCHED in a while...)

I've been struggling to confirm my own mental "canonical timeline" in the game just bc Stanley the Person keeps throwing monkey wrenches into my theory lmao.

Like.... the general conclusion I had come to was that, in the interim of the skip button room, during those longer and longer pauses, THAT is when the narrator makes the Stanley Parable 2, as a way to distract himself. the Stanley that goes through all those endings prior to the Epilogue Unlocking is either the PLAYER, or the Narrator's idea of Stanley, and NOT Stanley himself.

and then, once you get the figurines ending the Narrator decides "Im about done playing", at which point 432 steps in with the epilogue (which may or may not take place after the Narrator has truly left. Im uncertain.) and the "real" Stanley escapes the Skip button room, with no goddamn clue what's up with this bucket (but it has his name on it!!) or these Name buttons but.... oh this one says his.

and then 432 gets Stanley to reset with the assist of the player who HAS context, and the Narrator completely forgets everything prior to the Ultra Deluxe.

but Stanley keeps contradicting me! first with the bucket escape pod animation and now this! my dude!

but yeah, Stanley being his own person in the same vein as Undertale is *chef kiss*. we really are just along for the ride up until we close the game and they go on to do what they like (me thinking abt Stanley in the Ultra Deluxe announcement fuckin HIDING)

anyway I have thought a silly amount about a fun fic where the game data on someone's PC glitches and chara gets put into TSP with the fellas. (look. I have a fave. chara is me) and the Narrator does a cursory google search and is like "THATS A DEMON IN MY GAME" which is just. so IC for him but also so awful.

Stanley is just like "would you PLEASE not call a literal child (who is MUTE from FEAR) a demon."

anyway they basically have to be Parents for this kid until the PC owner fixes the bug.

the first time they hear Chara make any sound at all, is in the Rocket League map. The narrator has spawned in many balls.

Chara starts laughing in delight. Stanley and the narrator just melt. That's THEIR kid now.

I've currently got 25 works on there.

2. What’s your total word count?

161, 391! which...wow, that number hits me every time I look at it. I can’t believe I’ve written a whole novel’s length of fanfic this year.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Mostly Hatchetfield and Deltarune, but especially Hatchetfield. The silly little horror-comedy musicals (especially the LiB and Paul) have grabbed me and won’t let go. To the detriment of my WIPs in other fandoms. Oh, and I’ve also written a decent amount of fic for Spiderverse and Dracula! (Our good friend Jonathan Harker, after all.)

4. Top 5 fics by kudos

pas de masque - a pre-canon Spiderverse fic focusing on Gwen's terrible experiences in the Spider-Society, and just what it's like to learn you're doomed in every other universe, and that no one will let you stop it.

The Show Must Go On - a fun little theatre AU for Deltarune, where Susie's been arrested, and the only way for her to not be arrested is to join a club. She chooses theatre, which Noelle is coincidentally the director of. Romance, friendship, and theatre chaos ensues. (also, I LOVE writing Kris in this fic.) It's the fic I've been working on the longest.

what is a god? - my exploration of the Lords in Black, and how they think and treat Hatchetfield and their puppets, written at 12 am after finishing Nerdy Prudes Must Die. Despite that, I’m still pretty proud of it!

used to think about you (everywhere i go) - a post-canon Nimona (movie-verse) fic, in which Nimona gets to work out her complex feelings about Gloreth by standing at her grave. Sometimes therapy is yelling at your ex-bestie's grave, more at 11.

one hell of a normal abnormality - a fic where I wrote Pete actually seeming to care that Ruth and Richie weren't there at Homecoming, with a decent exploration of grief and feeling guilty. Also, I think I was the first one to use the green-hair-after-being-touched-by-Wiggly headcanon.

5. Do you respond to comments?

Yes, of course! I love comments - you read my whole chapter/fic, and you liked it enough to post your reaction! Amazing, I love you, I would literally die for some commentors.

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Oh, this is hard. Most of the fic I write is angst, so tough to pick. I'd say the real competition is between life underground (it's over now) and always be my favourite ghost. But if I had to choose, it would be the first one, because that ends with Chara literally ripping up their adoption certificate, and thinking they’ll never be a part of the Dreemurr family. And we all know what happens next. :(

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Oh, this one’s pretty easy. like real people do. It’s a short, canon divergent one shot I wrote for a podcast, Monstrous Agonies that I was super into - even submitted a couple of letters to the podcast I was pretty proud of. It ends with the characters sort-of rekindling their relationship, after accidentally broadcasting them kissing through the radio. It actually managed to predict a decent amount of the actual finale, too!

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Thankfully, I haven't gotten any yet. Hoping that that streak continues.

9. Do you write smut?

Ha! No. And it's probably not going to happen for a long time, if ever. I'm apparently a bit of a nerdy prude myself. I have written at least one fic that's only plot was two characters kissing, though.

10. Do you write crossovers?

I haven’t yet! Maybe someday.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Also, no. Benefits of being a smaller fic writer, I guess.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope! But if that ever happens to me, I'm gonna scream

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not yet! I was thinking of co-writing a Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes fic with a friend in real life, though. It was a really good movie, but I haven't made a lot of progress on it.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

You know, I'm really not sure? I mostly read gen fic, but for shipping? I'd have to say probably Noelle/Susie, or Paul Matthews/Emma Perkins? It really depends on the day - I'll read a lot of ships.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?

None so far! My WIPs currently are probably going to take a long time, but I plan to finish all of them. Outlines may be bad, but I am determined!

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think I'm really good at internal monologues. And along with that, characterization! I get a lot of really sweet comments about it, and I do like writing character-focused pieces! Which is kind of ironic, given that worrying about writing characters wrong was a pretty big reason I didn’t start writing again until this year.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Dialogue. Oh my god, every time I try to write snappy dialogue, I have new appreciation for comedians and dialogue-heavy writers. Those people are so talented. Sometimes I act out dialogue I’ve written and I want to throw myself into the sun.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?

Look. I took French for five years. But every time I try to speak French, one of my best friends looks like she wants to fight me. I am not great at languages other than English. I am positive that if I tried to write dialogue by myself, I would just resort to DeepL, or Google Translate, and nobody wants that. If I have to write in another language, I'm going to try and get a translator.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Are we counting works posted to ao3, or first fic ever? Because the first fic I ever posted to ao3 was for a podcast, Spirit Box Radio, that I should really relisten to at some point. But my first fandom I ever wrote for was Gravity Falls - the fic's still posted to Quotev, and I have reread it recently. It was a next-generation fic.

20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?

How dare you ask me to pick? But seriously, probably pas de masque. I know it's cliche to say my most kudos'd fic, but I am super proud of my characterization of Gwen there, and getting to play with pre-canon Spider-Society and what it's like for someone to know they're doomed by the narrative in every other universe.

Tokyo mew mew new season 1 ep 1-6 thoughts!! Ichigo's VA is So Good. -high schoolers instead of middle schoolers!! -Ichigo seeing aoyama all sweaty with his hair in that…helmet wrap thingy and STILL crushing on him is incredible. bc thats probably him at his Sweatiest, LMAO. (his awkward lil wave…PLS. theyre both so CUTE) -THE OPENING MADE ME CRY. LOOK AT THEM ALL. It's so dang CUTE. -Ichigo's friends new hairstyles are super cute -MINT!! -ICHIGO'S FRIENDS BEING SO SUPPORTIVE and getting their own character aspirations?? thats unexpected and cool! -love how they kept the animation so SILLY -mint hiding behind a tree and being annoyed at this hetero nonsense. queen of stealth -ichigo and her friends basically snooping for INFO. THATS NEWS TO ME -Ichigo shaking masha's wing was so cute -cryptids are just chimera anima….new lore drop………..im shook. mothman is real in tmm universe. -ryou insisting hes NOT being a creep and having no concept of social norms while doing things ichigo 100% finds weird/creepy…dare I headcanon him as autistic? bc same king! -yeah something about them letting her be mew ichigo the entire ride to the cafe when she couldve changed back anytime was HILARIOUS -ryou telling ichigo shes important becaUSE SHES A BIOWEAPON. ONCE AGAIN HAVING NO CLUE ABOUT SOCIAL ETTIQUTE. THIS IS HOW AUTISTIC RYOU CAN WIN -'when i woke up I was already home!' bro are u not even worried about that? at all? if I passed out in public and woke up at home I would have. EP 3: -dont know if ive said it yet but the cafe bg characters are always really cute -ichigo being BAFFLED at mint being Nice to Lettuce jkhkjad -'the animals at the zoo arent anything special' girl anyone who turns down a zoo date is weak and will succumb to natural selection. zoos are so fun tf -ichigo worrying aoyamas not having fun…girl hes an introvert and ur energy is A LOT and hes prob flustered. let him LIVE -I love being proven right 0.2 seconds later after I type something. him getting flustered/nervous and holding Ichigo bc of it. shes his emotional support cat i am LIVING -then him being SUPRISED he was even nervous aww…theyre so CUTE -him immediately infodumping abt cats body temps. another autistic king but I KNEW that in my heart already -goddamn theyre so cute -pudding being the ultimate dateblock queen. here for her energy tho -puddings energy during the unconsentual kiss was WRONG tho. ichigo being abt to cry abt it…death to kish for 1000 years -is there a lore reason that cat protected aoyama? do normal animals like…instincutally wanna fight chimera anima/sense theres smth wrong with them? EP 4: -ryou with his goddamned square window, again. im having a FIT -his room IS kinda sad. damn -im sorry, I swear they also described zakuro as having black hair in the og anime, but WHERE. its PURPLE -mint still gay. good. shes such a lil fangirl -her gay fantasy of hugging zakuro and having a Moment with her lmao. girl same -mint knocking ichigo out of her fantasy to turn around and freak out abt there being lint on her clothes and she cant let zakuro see that. then ichigo sayin she understands the feeling. how else could this possibly be interupted except ichigo being the best ally -LETTUCE GETTING THE ROLE OF ROCK I AM LOSING MY MIND -the knight mint/ichigo prince dynamic. Thoughts on Deltarune Chapter 2

I wasn't even intending to write a Deltarune post, but here we are!

Have some extended ramblings/theorizing about Undertale, Deltarune, and the role of the "Player" vs character agency.

[Warning: full spoilers for ALL routes in both Undertale and Deltarune!]

Frisk’s Agency in Undertale

So I'm not sure how common this is nowadays (I haven't been following Undertale theories for a while), but I personally prefer the interpretation that there is no "Player" as an in-universe force in Undertale. I think it's a far more elegant story if the fourth wall isn't broken.

I'm also fond of the Narrator Chara and "Chara isn't pure evil until Murder Route teaches them to be" interpretations too.

And, of course, the third plank bridging those two is that I don't see Frisk as a just a pure, innocent cinnamon roll.

Because I like the story best when it's Frisk who chooses mercy or murder. It gives Frisk a much more complex character, if they are allowed to have the capacity for both immense kindness and immense cruelty. It even gives them an interesting implied character arc, if you take the natural progression path of True Pacifist > Murder Fun Times > Soulless Pacifist.

Just like Flowey, Frisk first tried to use their powers of Determination for good, but eventually they also grew curious and began to see the world as a game. And then they went too far and ultimately regretted it. Regretted it so much, in fact, that they were willing to sell their soul for just a chance to fix it.

After all, it's not you, the "Player," whose SOUL Chara wants. It's you, Frisk.

I also dislike the idea of an in-universe "Player" because that implies that "Frisk" is nothing but an empty shell - on ALL routes. All of those heartwarming moments in the True Pacifist route? All of the silly Flirt actions? Yeah, that's not Frisk, that's just as much the "Player" puppeting some poor kid's body as the events of the Bad Times.

Who knows what Frisk is truly like if their every action - good or ill - is controlled by some unseen, eldritch force? Now Frisk no longer has any characterization.

And given that said force overrides Frisk's agency, then isn't the "Player" evil no matter which route you take? It's become a story where they only "moral" choice is never to pick up the game at all. Hrm.

Anyway, but that's all Undertale. Which brings me to...

What the heck is going on in Deltarune?

Unlike Frisk=the Red SOUL in Undertale, we don't seem to control Kris=the Red SOUL in Deltarune. The game repeatedly underlines that the player only controls the Red SOUL, not Kris.

(Though, with stuff like the sound of the bathroom faucet only being audible when Kris's actual body is nearby - it seems like even when separated, the Red SOUL may still be perceiving through Kris's other senses besides sight...?)

With Spamton's dialogue and Kris's reaction after the non-Weird NEO fight, there's also a lot more emphasis in Deltarune of Kris (and the rest of the party!) being puppeted by some other force. And that's on top of all the stuff in the first chapter highlighting Kris/the Red SOUL's lack of agency.

Because of all those hints, Deltarune seems to be much more explicitly pointing toward that dark interpretation of Undertale - that the "Player"/Red SOUL is removing Kris's agency, regardless of route.

Indeed, I'm somewhat intrigued by the possibility that we/the Red SOUL might be forcing Kris to act nice just as much as we force them to act cruel. The way that Kris deliberately removes the Red SOUL in order to do some very suspicious actions might support that. As do some comments in Chapter 1, like characters in the post-Dark World walkaround noting how Kris is being less weird and more inquisitive than usual. Maybe Kris is the Knight and the Red SOUL is possessing them to undo their evil actions. Maybe the real Kris doesn't want to be friends with Susie and Ralsei at all!

But taking that interpretation to such an extreme also doesn't quite fit. Why does Kris slash the tires on Toriel's car? The only reason I can think of is that they want to keep Susie at their house. And why does Kris create the Dark World in their house? Is Kris creating the fountains because they want to have fun with friends? Especially right after the chapter emphasized how great the Dark World adventures were, that seems very likely.

There are also some smaller details too, of Kris interpreting the Red SOUL's input with their own spin (like saying things sarcastically), or of Kris chatting in a friendly way with Ralsei which the player/SOUL can't influence.

So, I'm pretty sure that even outside of the Red SOUL's control, Kris genuinely does like their friends.

Meanwhile, there were a lot of hints this chapter that Something Bad happened to Kris, Noelle, Dess, and Asriel when they went exploring in the forest by the graveyard. Most likely, they went into that ominous bunker south of the town. Is that incident related to Kris’s current strangeness?

And then, and THEN, there's the Snow Mercy route. That route seems to imply that the Red SOUL is both evil, and very much not Kris. Noelle says Kris isn't like themself, that their voice changes strangely, and she can still hear the creepy voice even when Kris is downed.

How to make sense of this all?

A Theory on Kris and the Red SOUL

One idea is that as scary and zombie-like as Kris looks without the SOUL, they're probably a nice, if lonely kid who desperately wants friends after their big brother went to college. (And possibly after something traumatic happened to them/their neighbor.) They're creating the Dark Worlds for the sake of fun and escapism.

But the Red SOUL puts an end to Kris's happy fantasies. Indeed, if the Red SOUL gives up, "the world is covered in darkness." So without the Red SOUL, would Kris simply keep creating fountains...? (What ARE the fountains, why can Kris and theoretically any Lightener create them?)

Maybe in the normal route, the Red SOUL is trying to gently help Kris move on and accept reality in some way. At the very least, I suspect Ralsei is working toward this goal.

But in that case... that's a pretty strange way for the Red SOUL to go about it, forcibly taking control of Kris to the point that the kid notices and seems to greatly resent it.

But what if the Red SOUL didn't have a choice about this arrangement either?

After all, the Red SOUL's customized vessel was discarded at the start of Chapter 1... and it was placed into Kris instead.

Here's a question: will Kris die if they're without a SOUL for too long?

Because there are an awful lot of moments in these games where characters break free of something they are bound to, but it doesn't end well: -Spamton collapses when his strings are cut. -The Darkeners can move freely outside their origin world for a while, but eventually turn to statues if they stay in another world. -Regardless of whether Berdly removes the Queen’s wires himself, he's exhausted and unable to fight any more after being under her control. -And when Kris takes the Red SOUL out of their body, their movements become slow and clumsy. Like it's a struggle for them to move at all.

Meanwhile in Undertale, post-Pacifist Asriel could maintain his form to say goodbye, but without SOUL(s), he inevitably returns to being Flowey.

So here's a theory: Kris died and/or lost their original soul. Perhaps due to some action/inaction on Noelle's part in the exploration incident. And as a last-ditch resort to keep them alive, the Red SOUL was somehow implanted in Kris.

(Also maybe Dess died/went missing at the same time...?)

And now, the Red SOUL the only thing keeping Kris around. 

But just like in Undertale, it seems like Deltarune SOULs have wills of their own.

Which means Kris's current state is similar to the Chara-Asriel fusion, or Omega Flowey, or even Frisk-Chara. Control of the body is shared. The difference is that instead of the SOUL we play representing the original owner/will of the body, this time the SOUL we're playing as is the intruder.

Essentially, this time around we are playing the role of the Chara-equivalent instead of the Frisk-equivalent!

(Though whether Kris themself is more of Chara or Frisk I’ll leave to other theorists...)

Anyway, while Kris likely wishes to be rid of the SOUL and dislikes this whole body sharing arrangement, they know they can't survive without it. And perhaps Kris being in a partially soulless state might explain why they do questionable stuff like creating Dark Worlds and slashing their mom's car tires in order to play with their friends. (Again, see also: Asriel/Flowey.)

But when the Red SOUL and Kris are in alignment, things go okay. The Red SOUL suggests commands, but Kris is willing to follow and seems to enjoy being with Susie and Ralsei.  

Let’s Talk About Snow Mercy

It's when the Red SOUL and Kris aren't in alignment... well. That seems to be what's happening in the Snow Mercy route. That kind of situation sure didn't go so hot with Frisk and Chara in Undertale, so I doubt this will end nicely for Kris and the Red SOUL either. At the very least, Kris seems to have been visibly upset after what happened with Noelle in this route.

(By the way, there are two other moments in Chapter 2 when Susie asks if Kris is okay - first after the normal Spamton NEO fight and subsequent discussion of what it meant and second after she and Kris approach the bunker.

Three different moments, but Kris appears to react similarly. Are all of these things related? The bunker, Kris being puppeted, and the events of the Snow Mercy route?)

Meanwhile, here’s a contrast. Undertale's Murder Route seemed to exist for the sake of curiosity and power - either the "Player" or Frisk's desires, whichever interpretation you subscribe to. And the changes to the world were all logical consequences of that - because of the Fallen Child's rampage, friendly NPCs disappear, major characters fight you more seriously, etc.

But the actions in Snow Mercy are... weirdly specific, weirdly unpredictable. It doesn't come across as a simple power trip. Instead, Snow Mercy is a bunch of really bizarre actions that feel even more mysterious to the player as they are to Noelle and Kris. I sure wouldn't have guessed that backtracking to the trash heap and freezing a bunch of enemies would lead to new items spontaneously appearing and then giving Noelle access to a scary new spell. It's like something straight out of a creepypasta!

The overall tone that comes across to me is that the Red SOUL seems to know what it's doing, even while the player is kept in the dark. And given Noelle's responses, it almost seems like the SOUL is trying to remind her of events/actions from her past, events which are obviously unknown to the player. All of which leads me to think that the Red SOUL has motives and goals of its own... so just like Undertale, this probably isn't a situation of the "Player" being a fourth wall-breaking force either.

The Red SOUL is its own character.

And I'm certainly curious to find out more about them!

i know you talk a lot about not liking the darkworld arc, but i personally really enjoyed it! it makes me smile every time i go back and reread it- i also feel that the feylow part really helped chara realize the issues they needed to confront so i'm not sure if the story would be confusing or not without it. maybe the darkworld arc was a bit silly at times, but it was a nice and fun breather before the more serious stuff resumed!

unsure but i'm assuming this was sent before my most recent post -if not sorry for misunderstanding asdkfjasd.

like, i don't mind the darkworld arc, it was an experiment and i'm still learning my craft. it was ambitious and misguided but i don't hate the end result.

so here’s like, my plan on this.

the arc will be shorter. it’s more of a short fun romp than a blown out multiple month adventure. knowing me it’ll still escualte, but since i have the power of hindsight and long term planning (as opposed to needing the audience to run asks and changing things on the spot) i can (ideally) keep things more shorter and cohesive

 things will be properly foreshadowed. having chara be like kris and frisk having a situation with Suzy isn’t enough to really set the stage for the arc. since there’s going to be a rewrite/add-on between chapters where Sans and Papyrus disappear, I’ll make it more clear they went to this universe’s darkworld first before going into deltarune. i’ll set up a plot that’s built up beforehand properly.

the FUN gang... 2! (not the official name yet) will stick more together. i think one of the biggest faults of the original darkworld arc was keeping chara and frisk separated and being so much at odds at each other. people ended up disliking frisk more than I feel was needed. (and part of that is i just made them so stubborn and kept details of their story more spread out over time, making their actions feel less reasonable reactions and more selfish)

now that ralsei isn’t involved (rip fluffy boi) a bigger focus can be set to Frisk’s ACTUAL planned character arc. they were supposed to be conflict with Suzy (NOT Susie, this is UT’s Suzy) and they have a strong friendship with MK. this mostly has been written out just because Chara’s Family Drama takes center stage so often. Not EXACTLY sure what role these two will play in this new version, because well, it’s not written yet! I’ll have to research D&D classes and balancing party members before I truly tackle this. MK and Suzy are more of a blank slate in this right now because it’s not planned yet -their designs and roles will change.

The Knight and Gaster will still be involved. I’m making a full on new Darkworld (which is something I WANTED to do with the original DW arc, but the plot was a lil out of my control.*) but they won’t have the exact same story. it’ll feel different. 

*(not that the askers could read my mind and know this. like, the abandoned house we were stuck in for a at least a week? that was supposed to be locked and out of our reach. but an asker was like “just break the door down” and i was like. yeah i can’t reason out of that asdklfasd like i said, great and fun experiment, not great for me directing a story. a lot of that was on the fly and while that’s more FUN it’s not coherent because it’s by nature not planned.)

TLDR; it’s going to be a more condensed, story focused adventure. chara’s conflict won’t be as separated or be as much of the focus, and frisk will have more avenues to explore their character that isn’t Putting Up With Chara’s Shenanigans.

i’m just going to flat out say the Darkworld animation/fangame is cancelled for this reason. i KNOW i SHOULD probably not stick to rewriting a story that’s already been finished but... god I hate having a bad story. i don’t know what i’m doing after AFR (other than Angel’s Lullaby, but development on that is so slow) but I think this will be a good chance for me to really get used to plannign and finishing a story. at the very least it’ll be a fun hobby -I don't want AFR to rule my life forever nor do I expect my audience to keep intrest in it that long. I’ll still update the blog when the rewrite version updates and I’ll be blunt about what parts of the story are coming up/are changed.

i think my main goal after the UT anniversary is to finish the main storyline and epilogue and then focus on the redraw’s planning and get that going. it will not be askable.

thank you all for being such good sports and i’m sincerely sorry for how i’ve written darkworld, and made this into such a mess that I have to rewrite it. Again, I still think there’s great parts and I had fun, but I feel I want the vision to be mine and as best as it can be.
