He feels the same as he did when he was fourteen years old, orphaned and alone and starving on the streets of Yokohama. He wants to go home, but home does not exist in the way it once did. Home is nothing but a memory. “We can take you back to Yosano-sensei’s place,” Dazai offers. Ranpo shakes their head. “I don’t want to bother her.” “…Okay. But I know you don’t want to stay here either.” “I don’t have anywhere else to go.” Ranpo rubs their eyes with the back of their hand. They wish they had their glasses. “I want to go home, but I can’t. I don’t know where that is anymore.”

for the first time since the decay of angels incident, ranpo attempts to spend the night at poe's house. it doesn't go as well as he'd hoped.
