PATH TO NOWHERE VERSE — OAK'S INFLUENCE, VIEWS, AND SYNDICATE'S FATE.
Cruelty of life stands strong as Oak Casket sees life as torture and death as salvation. Perhaps, it is why she remains within Romanesque Hall, being the ruler of the spider web of chaotic events across Syndicate. The harbingers of deathly whispers and the listener of the dead. If we take into consideration her appearance, Oak Casket may be seen as a servant of God, but she quickly turns that theme around by being the Servant of Death. Not Devil, not Satan, but Death. With this theme in mind, Oak Casket represents the solitude and the apathy of death as a Sinner. She yearns for chaos, for noise, and for witnessing of something bright happening. Chief is the only person who proposed to her a contract - a contract with Death itself - by offering her their death where no regrets will be spoken.
What does that means? Oak Casket hears countless cries of Syndicate citizens, gangs, leaders, etc. All of them suffer in life but may be able to find salvation and silence in Death. Because there is no pain, there is no suffering, there is no flames to burn their skin, and there is no violence to make them respond in violence or despair. There is simply nothing, they are powerless to do anything as Death claims them all without looking at who it is: child, adult, elder, etc.
With the fact that Oak Casket remains one of the most unknown figures to Chief in the main story (alongside Bai Yi), the Bureau was able to find quite distressing information about who and what hides behind the seemingly soft yet distant smile of the 'mortician'. She is one of the leading reasons for what is happening in Syndicate, specifically the gang wars and the endless chaos. She is the feeder of distress and the raiser of Hell within Syndicate. Despite her aloof persona, it's obvious that Oak continues to be the instigator of different conflicts within Syndicate which caused a broad range of power imbalances. In general, Oak Casket can be considered one of the worst criminals appearing in the MBCC as she is both lacking any moral codes and operates solely for herself as there is nothing else to gain from conflicts aside a higher number of deaths, an endless cacophony of dead voices, and an accelerating progress of Syndicate being driven to its ground.
There is a line Oak Casket says about Syndicate: "Syndicate needed a grand farewell to usher in another perfect rebirth."
What is a grand farewell she speaks about? Naturally, it is 'death'. Oak Casket continuously adds oil to the flames of Syndicate without batting an eyelash because Syndicate must destroy itself to be born anew. The perfect rebirth is also following the themes of Dudu who represents the song of 'Phoenix' and we are all well-aware that Zoya has always been shown in flames (be it purple flames or be it her story surrounded by flames). The flames, the Rustfire Arc, the Phoenix, the perfect Rebirth. If we are looking into deeper connections of Oak Casket to Syndicate, she is seemingly nudging the progress of Syndicate to the worst case scenario: self destruction. Because, naturally, Oak Casket sees Death as salvation. All the suffering and all the struggles within Syndicate are not only born from Oak Casket's intermingling, but also because people continue to suffer and continue to push forward with violence.
It's essential to lso remember what Zoya stated about Syndicate. If I'm not mistaken, she did mention that Syndicate doesn't have a peaceful future. The Legion itself operates on the notion of Wrath/Fury/Anger, which are also something that we can attribute to the general 'flames' of Syndicate. The gang violence, the explosions, the catastrophes, the accumulated Mania. I'd say that Oak Casket, as an observer and instigator of many casualties, sees it all and simply does not see any future for Syndicate. She wants to watch it burn, to watch it finally burn itself to ashes and then be reborn anew when everything (and she means it) is finally put to rest.
Oak Casket's line: "Rest for Eternity" is another reflection of her inner views on her life and the lives within Syndicate. Syndicate must fall and must be fully destroyed because there is no peaceful resolution to its existence. It must fully destroy itself to be reborn anew, because, from Oak Casket's views, Syndicate's destruction is also its salvation.
Not only that, but let me bring up another line of Oak Casket that stays endlessly with me: "Only when there is an eternity of silence, the stupidity, boredom, and vileness of life will be changed into something intriguing..." This is what she wants of Syndicate. The eternity of silence. She calls Syndicate (and DisCity, no, the World in general) a place of stupidity, boredom, and vileness of life. And when finally it all will be put to rest in the casket? It will be changed into something intriguing. Why? Because Oak Casket hears what happens after death. She is the only one who will remain to hear all the voices and know all the deaths' whispers. After all, her ability isn't called "Abyssal Whispers" for nothing.
