I think the only thing I'm glad abt here is that Hak for the 1st damn time didn't bring up Yona in their convo & at least realised what amount of burden Soo-Won has been putting on his tiny shoulders. He's started to realise what it means to be in Soo-Won’s position, that he's pretty limited choices to make. Before that he's too blind to even notice these things

Is there really a reason to celebrate?

I've read chapter 262 and I wonder why people are celebrating the "reunion" of Soo Won and Hak.

While I understand that Hak is turning to Soo Won for help like he used to...since he might be pretty desperate in that situation...there is evidently less understanding regarding Hak.

Hak basically expects a sacrifice of Soo Won without knowing how big it might be...as long as he gets Yona back.

And he does not even pretend that might not be the case. What would you reply if a person mentions that this might be their last task? Soo Won basically tells him that he wholly offers himself up?

Would you just not react like Hak? I hope not.

The icing on the cake is Hak expecting that Soo Won alone who was used by so many people as a scapegoat, as a stand-in magical messiah, should find a solution to the murder of King Il.

There is no us. Not even when Hak sees how much Soo Won is hurting. Hak lives in a strange world where Soo Won alone has to solve shit that has already stunk when he had not even been born.

We already know bro that you are no king material as sacrifices for the country aren't your thing. But isn't it strange that you always expect this from Soo Won?

I mean making sacrifices for not just the country but also Yona?

Riddle....Riddle had always made you nervous. Not in the butterflies in your stomach way, but in the way of being caught by your parents doing something you shouldn't. Like he was looking through your very soul with that oh so piercing gaze every time he crossed paths with you. Like he was constantly judging your every move, analyzing everything. Pointing out every imperfection within the confines of his mind. A scolding with each glance, on the first day when Grimm caused a ruckus to every single time you passed him in the hall, every mere glance felt as if it was a lecture despite not a singular word of criticism passing his lips, just a firm line and

dissaproving glare whenever he saw you.

You spent so much time trying to resolve the small Quarles while trying to not get your head chopped off, walking on eggshells around him, choosing each and every word and action with precision while trying to poke and prod Ace's massive ego into just apologizing. Your hands chapped while shakily attempting to Crack open the chestnuts in order to make that damn tart. Making sure it looked absolutely perfect with bo cracks whatsoever. Wrapping it nicely in the best container you could. Reminding Ace to use gentle and careful words, even telling him exactly what ti say in order to make this all go away so you can be rid of him sleeping on that sofa.

Appearing at the birthday party with a small smile along with Ace and Deuce in tow. Watching as Ace apologized offering up the tart, before Riddles face turned Horrified apon finding out the mere flavor. Acting as if your ran over one of his hedgehogs for breaking the nonsensical Rule: 262 about how chestnuts tarts were forbidden from birthday parties. Unable to do anything but watch as he threw out their group and got rid of the tart, not by putting it in the fridge far away from the Birthday Party, but throwing it into the trash.

Failing over and over as you attempted to calm Ace's completely understandable frustration. But he completely refused to even attempt to apologize once more, and then Crowley dumped that unhelpful peice of information on them, encouraging the already roudy freshman to enact some sort of justice against the Crimson Tyrant.

Unable to stop them as they challenge their dear Housewarden to a duel. Proving his skills and cementing his position, which was both amazing and horrifying at the same time to all of the spectators. Amazed at his skills, but Horrified that he would remain in his position of power over the Heartslabyul students.

Then you had to watch yet again as any chance of a peaceful solution was dashed when Ace punched Riddle square in the face.

Having to desperately attempt to calm Riddle down after he overblotted, litterally fighting for your life as you attempted to snap him out of his enraged stupor. Being almost beaten senseless, blood splattered over the grass, painting any possible misscolored roses in a deep shade of red, trying to get the students out of the line of fire while Trey tried to hold back his magic. Absolutely helpless to do anything other than direct people and try to not be hit my his magic that would have killed a magic student easily, let alone your very magicless self. Barely managing to survive and snap him out of it with the combined magic of Trey, Carter, Deuce, Ace, and Grim combined.

Breathing heavily as relief filled your body as Riddle snapped out of his Rage and had a small breakdown while Trey dragged the sniffling Housewarden to the infirmary, while Carter attempted to gather all the injured students to the infirmary, most having a decent amount of blood loss, no less then 1/2 a litter for a most. Your skin covered bruises with blood soaking your clothing causing it to stick to your body as the metalic sent filled your nostrils. Your heart pounding through your chest as the noise of it filled your eardrums overwhelming any other of your senses.

Carter's appalled face twords grim consumption of the strange rock being the last thing you saw before suddenly black filled your vision.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS FOR THE JJK MANGA

Uh so I haven't slept in like 24+ hours and I was thinking about Yuuta and Gojo right and how I feel chap 262 has just sort of highlighted a certain aspect of their narratives and that is how their cursed techniques interact with the narrative, call me insane. Anyway, with chapter 261 I feel like it's simply highlighted these characters more in terms of the big questions about them regarding their techniques, gojo with the famous quote and yuuta with the wtf is his technique yk.

Hear me out, "are you the strongest because you're Gojo Satoru or are you gojo Satoru because you're the strongest?" Is answered here. Gojo Satoru and the strongest sorcerer have never been something that can be seperated, and in this chapter we see that, that no matter how hard he tried he'd never be more than sorcerer societies strongest weapon. It's not just that people wouldn't see him as more it's that they couldn't, for their very survival they can't see him as more than a tool to be used.

Moving on, Yuuta Okkotsu's cursed technique mimicry and the way he "became" a sorcerer means he can never be something without the people around him. His technique would never work unless there were people to mimic, he'd probably never have gotten to where he is without Rika, his whole existence as a sorcerer is defined by the people around him and that's not something that can be changed. I mean he gives up everything that makes him, him by transferring to gojo, he's no longer himself, he was called the strongest after Gojo and now he has literally become that.

So putting them together, having them both need to give up everything about themselves for everyone around them feels like a good not ending, but point, to their narratives as a whole.

Gunnerkrigg Liveblog #9: End of an Arc, I Assume

Hello, and welcome back to Gunnerkrigg Court. Chapter 14 has the incredibly kickass title of "The Fangs of Summertime" (14.258), and it starts with a fittingly kickass preview of what is to come (14.259): firstly, summer has begun, and secondly, "a god emerged from Gillite Wood."

Confession: I knew beforehand that Gunnerkrigg Court has a coyote. I don't know anything about the coyote or why it's important, as I have conciously avoided anything resembling a spoiler; but my abilities are not perfect, hence why I already know that there's a coyote that is important for whatever reason.

We begin with Annie visiting Kat's parents, the Donlans (cf. Chap. 7). Mrs. Donlan decides to take the girls to the roof of the building to show them a big, green glowing thing in the sky, which Mrs. Donlan tells us is "a signal from the forest"; she takes Annie's blinker stone around her neck and throws it into the sky to make a big red glowing thing (14.261-262). This manages to get the attention of... Mr. James Elgamore, of all people, who jumps onto the roof from who knows where (14.263).

Also, at the start, Annie mentions that she's expecting to hear from her father (14.260), who -- correct me if I'm wrong -- I don't believe we've heard from directly so far.

Later, a gathering in the school's hall takes place (14.267); and back on the roof, Mr. Elgamore told Annie to bring Reynardine to this event (14.265), so I suspect that he'll be relevant soon. We are introduced to two bickering lovebirds of students named Parley (surname not given) and Andrew "Smit" Smith, the former of which berates Annie, "Surma Stibnite's kid," for that thing she did with the bridge (14.268; cf. Chap. 7, again).

Suddenly, the doors to the hall open up, and through them walk the hooded figure and coyote we got a preview of when the chapter started; the hooded individual, here addressed as "General," removes his hood and shows us his face (14.270).

*Gasp!* It's a furry!

In seriousness, this doesn't appear to be the General's "normal" state, given how he's addressed. We later learn that his name is Ysengrin (14.274), so that's what I'll call him. Ysengrin is displeased that Parley and Andrew are his mediums (14.271), seemingly implying that he needs specialized people to do something for him. In the meantime, the coyote gets Annie confused for her mum, and gives a big fat "LOL" when they learn the truth (14.272-273). Annie, for her part, seems to already know about this coyote, asking "Are you really the coyote?" and recounting an old story she heard about them (14.273-274). Given how this story (which the coyote confirms to be true) has the coyote trying to create humans, I suspect that this is more of a demigod-like spirit than a garden-variety talking animal.

Ysengrin is upset that a mechanical bird fell into Gillite Wood, where it apparently corrupted the natural landscape with its technological tendrils (14.276).

Either the bird was designed to do this, or the supernatural woods are weak to technology like the plague. 50/50, I say, until it's further clarified.

Regardless, Annie takes responsibility for the intrustion of this infectious robo-bird, but denies that she planted it there on purpose (14.278-279). At that point, Raynardine (mentioned way back) shows up as a wolf. He has some banter with his coyote "cousin" (14.281), and once the coyote does something mildly pervy to Annie... it's fight scene time (14.282-284), with Reynardine, Mr. Elgamore, and the coyote casting spells while Ysengrin casts punches.

When the fight ends, Ysengrin and the coyote leave (14.285). The school staff suspect that the whole fight was a ruse, noticing that Ysengrin left behind some green seeds on the ground (14.286).

Fast-forward to after this whole affair, and we see Annie and Kat chilling in a bedroom together; as it turns out, Annie expects to be with Reynardine until her father contacts her (14.288).

Our chapter ends with Annie back in her own room, hanging out with Reynardine (14.290-292). The last sentence of the chapter (narrated by Annie) is worth copying and pasting: "Thus ended my first year at Gunnerkrigg Court. And so did I wait for word from my father. Unaware that I would not hear from him for over two years." Sooo... looks like we're not seeing Annie's father any time soon?

The amount of fluff between Chapters 14 and 15 (pp.293-304) is abnormally large, so I expect that the next chapter will be the beginning of a new arc. Either way, I look forward to it!
