Took a break from Dragon's Dogma 2 after I triggered the final main quest thinking it was a side quest and completely skipping out on one of the boss battles because I was too busy hiking to this random NPC, forcing me to reload the game from a 6hrs old save point because of how whack DD2 saving system is. Good game though, basically just the first one but with a few extra steps. Totally unrelated information to the illustration which was done while watching the Chaotic Neutral's new CoC video.

This was the one that introduced me to the world of Miraculous salt fics, and the fic that opened my eyes to the problems of the show. When Rafe and I first got into Miraculous, Season 2 hadn't aired and we were looking for new shows to watch. We didn't know it, but our interest would be dead by Season 4.

You Don’t Know What You’ve Got ‘Til It’s Gone by DaniMeows

One of the earliest salt fics I read when I first learned about them, and it still hits all those right notes years later. It's a one-shot, yes, but you get to see the class get collectively punched in the gut when they realize how badly they screwed up.

The Karma of Lies by CartoonAddict564

I know this one is a bit controversial due to how it treats Adrien at the end. And while I agree, it's a very nice and short fic where we see everyone get what they deserve and more. For better or worse. For what it's worth, I still enjoy the first half.

Chloe's Lament by ChaoticNeutral

Another well-done salt fic detailing the longtime bully finally getting her just desserts in a satisfying manner. While Rafe and I still plan to do a Chloe redemption, this one scratches all the right itches in regards to giving her what she deserves.

I'm a bit biased because I'm a current player of Twisted-Wonderland, but this is just a nice "Good things happen to Marinette" fic as she rebuilds her life in another world. Meanwhile, Lila finds out the hard way not everyone is a sucker like she wanted. Yeah, Rafe and I are doing a Lila redemption but it still is a nice read.

A nice series of vignettes showing the many, many ways Lila could get exposed. Not much to say other than they're all very unique and very nice to read.

Juleka vs. the Forces of the Universe by goldenlaurelleaves

A nice and unique twist on the formula that also addresses some frustrating problems of the show while giving focus to an often-ignored character in both the fandom and the show. This is partly what inspired our rendition of Juleka in the fic.

Another one that's a bit controversial, but for what it's worth it brings to focus the stark hypocrisy everyone in the show has. And honestly, with how Miraculous as it is likes to blame Marinette for everything, I wouldn't be surprised if this happened in the show proper.

Chaton Noir by ChaoticNeutral

For a non-salt recommendation, I absolutely must recommend this bag of cuteness overload. It's a series of vignettes featuring the dolls Marinette accidentally brought to life via Creation magic. And I recommend seeing a dentist afterwards. Because the fluff will absolutely rot your teeth.

(My personal favourite long-form “Lila Exposed” fic. Portrays the class as flawed kids trying to do the right thing. Alya is far more supportive than in canon, and everyone is less of an idiot. Chloe even has a redemption - it can feel a little out of nowhere, but it is in-character for her, and I feel well-handled. Fair warning, Lila is very much portrayed as Evil, willing to work with a terrorist kind of evil, so it may not be for everyone.)

It also has an interesting Akuma for the person manipulated by Lila, and some great characterization for all the characters.)

Loving to learn, learning to love

I need to escape from reality to feel alright. Everything has been broken. It was not just me. I have been first taught to criticise myself more than my surroundings. The surroundings were yet empty. People who were supposed to care could not. Emotions, thoughts, and actions were all scary for them. They tried so hard to teach me how to be scared. Some people are born in a context that they do not like to change. They love rain as they can sip a glass of wine. Cinnamon reminds them of the cookies their mother excitedly baked for them. They do not need to prove anything to be beloved. I never aimed to succeed. There were not many things around me when I was young.

I learnt to study. I learnt many things for the sake of changing my surroundings. I could not manage quite yet. I am still here in this borrowed room from my relatives. There needs to be more places for my books. There are not enough places for my dreams either. I thought I was choosing to be a romantic. If I do not romanticise learning, I will never have something romantic.

I can not travel from one place to another. I am broke. All I have is a room for myself. The walls are borrowed. The colours are brighter than the skins of my lovers. The sun is shining outside. I am looking still young and beautiful. But very much like these words, all in vain. I try to travel from one mind to another. Struggling not to love them. When I am trapped in this place, I am never enough. I have to love to learn, yet learning to love is another place's issue. Learning to love is a luxury. And the world is not fair, although I am the fair lady according to their book.
