Seria Nightbreeze Backstory

Part 1/3

The wild magic that Seria inherited from her mother is centuries old. Old enough to where it has been identified as an aid and a hindrance and then an aid again throughout generations. In the Lolthite society in which she was born, her family could not offer a daughter born with the brand of the chaos mage due to the sheer havoc it wreaked through past carriers. The brand itself appears to come from a sentient force, that chooses at will when and to whom it will be passed to, choosing at the birth of an heir.

Seria’s mother, Jhulae, was an avid disciple of Lolth, and made up for her inability to serve as a priestess by fighting for the cause. When she retired from her services, she offered three of her four daughters to the temples of Lolth to become priestesses, since those first three did not posses the brand. The fourth daughter, and youngest of Jhulae’s nine children, was the exception.

The midwives present all complained of a horrible chill in the air at the time of birth, and Jhulae herself had a vision declaring this would be the new carrier. She was displeased to learn she had passed down her mark to a daughter. Consequently, Seria (named Ire at birth) was raised at home with her five brothers. 

While she was cared for by her family (as well as drow can be cared for), she felt like an outcast being the only girl with so many brothers at home and being separated from all of them with her magic. It was especially isolating when she was placed at the center of attention by her magic. She had no surges until her pre-adolescence, but there were several nights when her brothers would awake their mother to tell her that Ire’s eyes were glowing again. Ire, meanwhile, was assaulted by the most blinding visions of the brightest colors. To this day, some of her trances are still vivid flashes of color.

Ire had a favored sibling growing up, and that was Irima, the seventh child and youngest son in the family. She followed him wherever he went, and her disinterest in Lolthite customs actually came from him. It was easier for her to feign interest, but her brother was more often than not punished for his inability to conform to the norms of his society. One day, it went too far.

Irima begged his little sister not to follow him on this particular day, but unable to resist her curiosity any further, Ire went, unaware of the horrors she was about to witness. She stepped into the room just as her brother had failed the loyalty rite to Lolth, and was transforming into a drider. To this day she vividly remembers the look of horror in her brother’s eyes as he pleaded her again to leave, and the disgusting way his body from the waist down morphed. It was only when her mortified screams alerted her mother outside that she was finally pulled from the room, but it was too late for her.

From that day forward, even the smallest house spider would remind her of what happened to her beloved brother. Cobwebs even abandoned by their makers leave her stiff and uneasy, and she is certain she could not bring herself to face Irima if she was ever in the situation where she’d have to.

Thinking about family heirlooms,,,,,

A little bit of context under the cut:

Hallows' wedding dress was a family heirloom and one of the only things to survive the fire that burned down the original Naïlo mansion (since it was so important to them it was kept neatly packaged and protected in their family's safe until it needed to be fitted and used for the next person to wear and then it would be packed up again, they were very particular about keeping it tidy and safe so it would last long enough to continue being passed down, and since it was in the safe when the fire happened it managed to stay relatively unscathed). When Hallows' wedding was crashed the dress was ruined and that's a big part (not the only part of course but still) of her running away, she knew how important it was to Vicoros that that was the last thing he had from his home and she felt like she couldn't go back with it torn to shreds. She didn't end up wearing it for her and Esvele's wedding since it still brought up too many bad memories for her at that point, but by the time Aurora was old enough to get married they decided that they weren't gonna let the tradition die and so they fixed it up and now it continues to be passed down as a family heirloom :)

What are Hallows families classes?

Caetora was born as a Storm Sorcerer and later Went into the Spirit Bard Track at college!

Vicoros initially went to Bard College to be a Satire Bard, but dropped out pretty quickly and turned to being a Wild Card Rogue

Ancelin is a Unity Cleric and a devoted Acolyte to Eldath

Winnifred was born as a Phoenix Sorcerer, but became incredibly focused on becoming a Wildfire Druid after she was seperated from the rest of her family

Evelyn was born as a Shadow Magic Sorcerer, and decided to put her dark powers to good use as a Ghostslayer Blood Hunter!!

Chrisantium was born as a Sea Sorcerer, and decided to go to Bard College in the Dirge Singer Track so that he could be with his lover, Percival, while he was out in battle

Speaking of Percival, he's a Banneret Fighter and loves his job of being a Knight

Villame is a Swarmkeeper Ranger and has a tiny army of pet crabs to keep her company as she doesn't like people very much

Klaus is a Living Weapon Monk, and despite his fluffy appearance he's pretty much made entirely out of scythes

Entropy is a Mutant Blood Hunter, and she can see out of the eyes on her bow and dress and the teeth on her outfit open up to be real mouths

Discord is a Wild Soul Barbarian; she may be tiny but she will fuck. You. Up.

Chaos is a Tempest Cleric and also worships Eldath

Ivy is a Beast Master Ranger and has a Giant Badger as her animal companion

Atropa is a Land Druid, and flowers bloom wherever she walks

Aurora is an aspiring Eldritch Knight Fighter and dreams of being a member of the Royal Guard like her big brother

Buttercup is a Maverick Artificier and a Gunslinger Fighter, and likes taking weapons apart and putting them back together to see how they work

I didn't include Kay or Vikki cuz it was supposed to reference the option I've been thinking about of theoretically multicasting her into an Ancestral Guardian Barbarian so the rest of the family would basically be spirits and uhhhh Kay and Vikki are still alive so they're not here lmao
