Rules: Share 5-10 things that have changed from the initial concept of your WIP till now.

I'll be doing this for Nite & Daye (kind of) since I talk about it the most <3 (and it's technically the WIP that has changed the most haha)

Also I only did 5 because I talked at length so prepare for a novel under the cut (':

1. I think I might have talked about it briefly but originally this story and honestly entire universe started with Aleah. The very first version of this story was with an Aleah who was half-human/half-vampire. She lived a private life with her two male partners until one day a vampire elder comes along and kills them, thus sending Aleah on a revenge plot. It's much, much different now (clearly) but I actually keep a lot of elements from this earliest version (:

2. So while the Daye we know and love didn't really exist until about a couple years ago, several versions of Aleah's son have existed before. So when I first started giving Aleah children (which didn't happen until I would later create the character Maverick!) she only had a daughter but I think it wasn't until 2016/2017 I gave her a son? Then from there on she had both a daughter and a son. Then I overhauled the entire story, giving her only sons in what are now the final versions (:

3. I think the biggest change is no longer making Aleah the main character. In fact, most of the WIPs that would come to be because of this universe I created for Aleah (literally, I initially made this entire universe just for her and can't say that isn't entirely still the case haha), none of them feature Aleah as an MC. Although I can't say she still doesn't have her hand in majority of them (;

4. Okay so this one is going to be kind of hard to talk about without spoilers but since it's the biggest change, I want to talk about it haha. So in regards to the boys' parents, Eero and Vasin's have always remained the same since the day there created. Vasin's is Mordecai (which is mentioned in the relationships post) and although I won't say it here, it's not super hard to figure out who Eero's is. However, Daye's other parent has changed (a few times actually, I could never quite decide) and originally Nite wasn't actually related to Daye at all! But they are, I promise. No red herrings here <3

5. And I guess I could talk about the biggest change??? Our beloved Nite who didn't even exist until this year <3 Honestly, I had felt it for a while but as I continued to develop this story I felt like something was really missing and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was. Then randomly out of nowhere, I was thinking about this really specific scene in the story (I can't say what it is bc spoilers <3) and I imagined someone else there that wasn't there before. And I just ran with this, creating an entirely new character and that's where we get the earliest version of Nite haha

Changes Tag Game

Rules: Share 5-10 things that have changed from the initial concept of your WIP till now.

Cold as Ice has been in development since around 2009. I lost almost all of it due to a glitch. It did go through a number of changes.

The biggest change was that it originally was to be one novel. To put it lightly, the pacing was a mess. Things happened to quickly. It is now a proper trilogy.

The working title was Dark Savior. This was changed one evening when I was listening to the radio and Foreigner's song, "Cold as Ice" played.

As far as world building went, Vaene Arturis' title went from the Grand Duke to the Crowned Prince.

There were interludes in the first draft that were cut. These interludes featured the god of love actively manipulating the fate of Cyras and Vaene as he believes that their union is needed to save the world from destruction.

The origins of the Arturis family have been changed. They were originally the descendants of a union between a harpy and a human. Now, the Olessa Region was unified during the Flight of the Dragon trilogy, making Vaene's paternal side the lineage of Alystin Torrath and Brennan Draig.

Hello and good day to all my fellow Legend of Zelda fans!

As you may or may not be aware we in the Legend of Zelda fandom have been having some troubles when it comes to tagging on A03. Mostly that the only tags that seem to be available to tag various Links with was the Linked Universe specific tags. Which led to writers either trying to make their own tags (which no one knew how to find) or inaccurately using Linked Universe Tags. Neither of which were fair to creators writing outside of Linked Universe, or fair to the Linked Universe community (let alone JoJo herself!).

People trying to tag their non-Linked Universe fics were either scrambling to be found or blending their words in with Linked Universe works. And Linked Universe fans who were searching for Linked Universe fics ended up stumbling across fics they weren’t looking for.

So, with that in mind, I reached out to the A03 team in search of a solution. And they have gotten back to me! I am going to post a picture of their reply under the cut, but I will summarize it first.

There (now? I’m not clear if they’ve all existed before) are tags we can use for most of our various Links that aren't Linked Universe. They’re just not tags that go in the “Character” box. Instead, you put Link (Legend of Zelda) in the character box and then one (or more) of these tags into the “Additional Tags” box. The tags are ‘Link from X game’. So, for example: Link from Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom (Legend of Zelda) or Link from Twilight Princess (Legend of Zelda). If you try to put a specific Link in and they don’t exist already you’ll just have to fill it in unfortunately. And the more people use that tag the sooner it will be made into one that’s canonized.

Mind you! These tags should NOT be used for Linked Universe fanfictions. JoJo has explicitly asked that Linked Universe fanworks NOT be tagged with general Legend of Zelda tags. And that is what these are. So please leave these tags for those of us writing outside of Linked Universe.

I did a little experimenting and there seems to be a tag for every game EXCEPT;

“Link from Four Swords Adventures (Legend of Zelda)”,

"Link from Triforce Heroes (Legend of Zelda)",

“Link from The Legend of Zelda (Legend of Zelda)”,

“Link from The Adventures of Link (Legend of Zelda)”, and

“Link from Age of Calamity (Legend of Zelda)”.

There is also no tag for:

“The Hero of Men (Legend of Zelda)” (or whatever title could be used for the hero before Link from The Minish Cap)

But there are Character tags for “Ancient Hero (Legend of Zelda)” and “Hylia’s Chosen Hero (Legend of Zelda)” (who I believe is the First Hero).

The more we, as a fandom, use these tags (especially the ones that aren’t currently searchable) the more readily usable they will be.

Changes Tag Game

I was tagged by @aohendo to share 5 - 10 things that have changed in my WIP (Hounds of Corduff) from when I first started writing it until now.

Well firstly of course is the fact that I lost a lot of the original worldbuilding I did for this, so the map has changed and a lot of the country names. I had a backup copy of some of the names thank goodness.

Originally this was going to be a five-book series and the titles were going to spell out HOUND but I didn't like the titles I came up with and five books sounded like a lot and I didn't have enough ideas for that so now it's four books

I recently changed the titles too, now the titles are Stray, Alert, Bare, and Howl. Still looking for a better title than Alert. All the titles are supposed to be dog related, be a noun, and be a verb.

Originally Awen was going to stay in Elsava for all of Stray but now she's leaving halfway through

Originally all the apprentices, Awen, Boru, and Hayes, were going to start off the same age, 15, but I changed it so that Awen having mastered the same amount of castings would be more impressive, so I made her younger, and 15 seemed too young for Hayes to join Cumhacht so I made him older, and I still wanted Boru to be about the same power level as Hayes but be less mature so I made him 17.

Bloodcasting was originally called Soulcasting but that didn't make any sense so I changed it

Reminded again, as I periodically am, that there's a fair number of people in the fandom that think of Nott the Brave and Veth Brenatto as two different characters, and not fundamentally the same woman. In the absolute literal sense, this is false: Nott the Brave, returned to the body of her choice and using her real name once again, is absolutely precisely the same person she was before Caleb cast Transmogrification on her. This is, incidentally, one of her main sources of angst towards the end of the campaign! A part of Nott must have both feared (and, in some ways, hoped) that when she was changed back into a halfling, she would also be a different person. That the person she became traveling with the Nein would be an easy identity to shed, which she may have hoped for because it would be easier to fit herself back into her home life with Yeza and Luc--and because it would be easier to say goodbye to the Nein if that were the case. And she feared it because she liked this person she became, no matter how transgressive society would label her for it. And she loved the Nein and didn't want those feelings to be altered.

But she didn't change. Veth Brenatto is Nott the Brave and Nott the Brave is Veth Brenatto. This was always the point. That's why it's an anagram. It's just that when she's Veth Brenatto again, she is much more focused on the why of what she's doing. Why am I still with the Nein? Why am I still adventuring? Why do I have this reticence to return home to my family? Why don't I long for that quiet, domestic life the way I once did? Her emotional journey becomes intensely personal, sometimes subtly/quietly told, and wholly about what kind of future she wants for herself and how her choice could affect those around her. Her two families become anchor points pulling her in different directions and she has to deal with that. Which is a different story than what she was telling when she was still Nott the Brave. Nott's story was much simpler--I am a goblin and I hate it and I would like to be a halfling again. I would like to be able to be with my family again. It's straightforward and it's achieved! But that's not where it ends, because she still needs to figure out a real, functional future for herself once her goal has been achieved.

All this to say, I think when people say they prefer Nott over Veth, it's important to remember that you are reacting to a certain story arc for the character, not an entirely different character. It may also pay to ask yourselves why you think they're so different. Was "Nott" funnier than "Veth" to you? Does her ability to serve as comic relief fundamentally change whether you like her or not? Did you appreciate "Nott's" themes more than "Veth's"? Or did you even notice the themes being explored in Veth's later game at all?
