hey! i noticed you've written stuff with iron bull and i was wondering, do you have any tips for writing his POV?

so i don't really have any hard and fast advice, other than that i am obsessed with him and spend a lot of time thinking about his character lol.

mostly, there are some metas that i re-read and keep in mind while writing him:

studying his dialogue is good for getting the style of prose i use for his perspective; it's a mix between casual and analytical. he tends to speak informally but he can be very articulate.

i also feel the need to point out that the uncouth mercenary act is just that: an act. he's not necessarily lying about his personality, but he is not a dumb brute who only thinks about sex. he is shrewd and intelligent; in his own words he's a "people person".

also, as a bonus detail, if you have him leave the qun, i write him referring to himself with the "the" in his name prior, but he drops it after.

dance era targs (roughly) oldest to youngest

rhaenys. tanned/olive skintone. takes more after jocelyn than aemon, but got aemons pale lilac eye color. not buff, but toned, swimmers build almost. when i read f&b for a sec i misinterpreted rhaenys “hair streaked with white” line as not referencing her age, but as poliosis.

and i think thats a really cool look for her so im keeping it :) if i can get a little anime with it, its reversed in laena and laenor. silver hair with black streaks.

daemon . more silver than gold. pale skin. pale purple eyes. looks just alyssa, big ears, crooked gap-tooth smile. but didnt get her curly hair or freckles. strong but also not built, lithe. for Some Reason having facial hair makes daemon want to die 🤔 so hes obsessive about staying clean shaven no matter where he is. notible then, that while he was hanging around harrenhal waiting for aemond to show up he hadnt shaved in weeks.

rhaenyra . takes more after viserys than aemma, but cooler coloring than him. silver>gold. rich purple eyes. wavy/curly hair. she also got alyssas silly ears and smile through viserys, as well as his sense of fashion. dresses in dramatized valyrian style, not at all historically accurate but looks sick as fuck. canon traits: fat, big nose, long braid, lots of jewelry.

aegon ii and helaena both take more after viserys, aemond and daeron after alicent.

aegon ii . flushed, bloated, alcoholic face. yall know that bit in the beginning of disco elysium when harry stumbles into the bathroom and starts groping his face talking about how much it sucks and how badly it hurts? aegon2s daily morning routine. sallow skin. gold>silver. tries to grow a mustache to look like viserys but he managed to dodge both viserys and ottos facial hair genes, ends up with a little pencil stache. canon trait?: fat

helaena . shorter. rounder face and softer features. pale purple eyes. freckles. crooked gap-toothed smile. wavy/curly hair. canon trait?: fat

aemond . tallest out of anyone here. skinny and lanky. not an ounce of muscle or fat on him. silver>gold. cooler skin tone. freckles?

daeron . i know the book says daeron had the valyrian look but i like thinking that he DIDNT. and thats why he got sent away to military school oldtown. hes kinda fucking with the greens whole “rhaenyra is a SLUT just LOOK at her children its obvious :/“ ive been picturing him with brown hair (from alicent) and purple eyes, but i saw this one fanart where he had the silver hair but green eyes and that looked really cool too. tan skin, freckles. shorter, but strong. curly hair.

baela and rhaena are fraternal twins, not identical. (baela wishes they were identical) they take more after laena than daemon. im kinda thinking about having one of them inherit laenas reverse poliosis, but im not such which. i do think it should be only one of them though.

baela . black/mixed. stockier build. i like the idea of her having short box braids, with the beaded ends. or short twists, especially in this half up style. feels very baela. likes to wear pants+dress like a man. light green/mint jewelry for moondancer, but otherwise doesnt really like to dress up. crooked smile.

rhaena . black/mixed. long goddess/butterfly locs. hair usually done up. always a bunch of jewelry and accessories in her hair. soft flowing fabrics, pastel colors. pink for mo(u)rning, maybe she also wears green for moondancer. lots of jewelry.

jacaerys . out of all of rhaenyras children, including aegon3 and vis2, jace is the one that looks the most like her. little brown haired boy version of nyra. has the valyrian nose if not the colors. wavy hair, not as curly as luke+joffs. darker skin. tall but bad posture so he looks shorter than he is. purpleish brown eye color. able to gain the most muscle.

aegon iii . very skinny. pale, sallow skin, deep set eyes, dark eye bags. straight, lank, hair. cutting scars on his chest. silver>gold but barely even silver, more white. also got alyssas gap toothed smile, but he never smiles so you wouldnt know it. essentially looks like a living ghost. canon traits?: purple eyes so dark they look black.

viserys ii . gold>silver. tan skin. freckles? curly hair. chubby and shorter.

if anyones not mentioned here its either because they died as a child and i dont have any strong opinions about their appearance or i forgor

i'd also like to add re: anora's politics, i think the nobles of ferelden also must be very aware that loghain and anora are only even nobles because of maric...a man who's been dead/missing for 5 years by then. i think that's also a problem of loghain's, that he doesn't realize he can't depend on his status in the rebellion any longer

yeah for sure! especially as the generation who fought in the rebellion start to die off and the generation of nobles for whom the rebellion is just a story takes power (we kind of see this with cailan and his more laissez-faire attitude to orlesian forces entering ferelden) the influence loghain (and anora) has starts to diminish, particularly since loghains doesnt seem the type to engage in politics all that much and make decisions that would garner him allies outside of his reputation. while anora is far better at politics than loghain, she's still pretty isolated and like its been said, not that great at backing up things she says and makes some pretty silly blunders

thanks for your lovely alistair meta! it's especially insane that he wants all the power without the responsibilities and it makes him shoving command on my initially 17 year old surana even worse

The thing with Alistair is that we're supposed to see him as this sweet goofy best friend character, and the game doesn't want us arguing with that perspective even when we probably should. If he just didn't want to be in charge that would be fine, although it would still be incredibly selfish of him to dump the burden onto the Warden. But he then freaks out whenever they don't do what he wants... even though he specifically put them in charge (whether they wanted to be or not) and so they are in no way bound to obey him. He has no right to throw tantrums over the Warden not doing what he wants, because he put them in charge and so made his own wishes a secondary concern at best. He really doesn't seem to understand that relinquishing all control of the situation to someone else means that he doesn't get to have control of the situation. Alistair doesn't seem to grasp that his actions have consequences, and in this case the consequence is that what he wants is not the group's top priority.

And it's especially bad with Surana/Amell, because first off I'd argue they're implied to be the youngest of the potential Wardens as well as the one with the least life experience (Brosca and Aeducan may never have seen the surface, but at least they were allowed to have a life outside of one building) and second they're a Circle mage and Alistair is a former Templar. Sure, he says he doesn't agree with their teachings, but he still uses Templar abilities and shows some signs that he does still agree with their teachings; he still clearly distrusts apostates on general principle, for example. Surana/Amell has every reason to be scared of Alistair, especially when he dumps all the burden of leadership on them but still clearly expects them to do whatever he says, but the game doesn't acknowledge that. The dynamic created by the former Templar expecting the former Circle mage to do whatever he wants even when the mage is put in charge of him drives me insane but the game never really lets us get into that and it's so irritating.

But I could give you that for a night.” A fire blooms in the hearth, warming the air. The light dances in Lavellan’s eyes, which drop to Desire’s—Dorian’s—lips. Their hand comes up to wrap around its wrist. “Out of the goodness of your heart, huh?” Desire trails a finger down the inside of Lavellan’s forearm. “You act as though I would get nothing out of this. Spirits feel things, too.” “Mutual gratification, then.” Desire tilts its chin up, lips a hairsbreadth from Lavellan’s. “Exactly so,” it whispers. The Bright One trembles, and Desire can see their resistance has frayed to a single strand. They hold firm only because it is what they have done their whole life. Desire needs only to flourish one last blade. It leans in, pressed chest to chest, lips brushing along the Bright One’s jaw. “Yuo,” it pleads with Dorian’s rich voice, breath hot on Lavellan’s ear. And the strand is cut.

*tiredly pompoms* tagged by @just-call-me-angel ! I have been making slow progress on my pavellan fic but struggling a bit with getting Dorian's voice to feel right. Anyways here's a snippet from my pavellan fic

Dorian took the bracelet, running his fingertips over it. He seemed impressed; Nydha practically bounced in his seat, overexcited. “Well, this certainly is better than that wine from last time,” Dorian started, still fixated on the bracelet. “It's beautiful, Nydha. Did you make this?” The redhead grinned, holding Dorian's arm still to clasp it around his wrist. The craftsmanship was distinctly Dalish, though the design wasn't like anything Nydha's father taught him to make. Usually it was leaf patterns or arrows, not dragon scales. “I started it ages ago, back in Haven. It was in my pocket when—” a heavy, uncomfortable pause, then he picked up again, “—well. When Healer Orrick was helping me, he put it aside. I think he knew it was important, like his Dalish bracelet. Ghilan’nain must have kept it with me through everything for a reason.”
