The small French village of Chambon-sur-Lignon received a surprise $2.4 million gift in the will of a 90-year-old Austrian man named Eric Schwam.
Shocked officials soon learned that Schwam was paying the town back for saving him and his family from the Nazis 80 years earlier.
He asked that the town use the money to fund education initiatives and scholarships for the local children

Agnes Marin was a 13-year-old girl from Chambon-sur-Lignon, France, who dreamed of one day becoming a filmmaker. She had been enrolled in the prestigious Collège Cévenol boarding school.
On the 11th of November, 2011, Agnes was lured to a forest from the school by another pupil, 17-year-old Matthieu Moulinas. Once there, Moulinas turned on Agnes; he sexually assaulted her before beating and stabbing her to death. Agnes suffered a total of 17 stab wounds before being set alight with petrol that Moulinas has brought to the scene earlier.
Later when it was discovered that Agnes was missing, Moulinas participated in the search. Suspicion soon fell onto Moulinas who had a number of scratches on his face. During questioning, Moulinas confessed to what he had done “without emotion.”
As it transpired, Moulinas was awaiting trial after sexually assaulting a girl in a forest near his home village the year previously. “I knew he’d end up killing someone,” said the first victim’s mother. However, Moulinas was released on bail after four months in custody when psychiatrists said he was able to be reintegrated into society and that he “did not present any danger.”
Many criticised the judicial system for placing Moulinas in a co-ed boarding school knowing his history. According to the headmaster, they “knew he had problems with the law, but didn’t know the nature of those problems.” The prosecutor, however, argued that the school “received him in full awareness of the facts about his past.”
In 2013, Matthieu Moulinas was sentenced to life in prison. His sentencing was the first time a life sentence was handed down to a minor.

The rumor ignited social media all weekend. The Franco-American actor Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner, the American star with 398 million followers on Instagram, spent a few days in Le Chambon-sur-Lignon, Haute-Loire, where part of the actor's family lives.
The star couple was seen in the chocolate confectionery Douceurs du Lignon on Friday. "They had an ice cream and came back later in the evening to order a waffle, details the manager. They were dressed in balaclavas to try to go unnoticed."
His employee Coralie was able to exchange a few words with them. "They were with Timothée Chalamet's father. They wanted to stay to eat but were afraid of being recognized... It was weird to see them in front of me, I was a little stressed. "
The two stars took advantage of their unprecedented getaway to do some shopping in the village. On Friday, they would have even bought a jewel in a business of Le Chambon-sur-Lignon, "two distinct pieces of heart," reports a witness.
Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner were nevertheless able to enjoy a real tranquility for a few days. The leaks on social networks then awakened the curiosity of many fans. "Since this morning, we have received many phone calls to find out if they are still there," says an employee of the Tourist Office.

A lot of people have been wondering what Kylothee talk about when they're alone together. So I created a fantasy convo using actual quotes from their media output:
Timothee: I spent my summers in a small French Village called Le Chambon-sur-Lignon, which couldn't be more opposite from my life in New York.
Kylie: I had beautiful breasts.
Timothee: For me there was such a stark contrast between the self-empowerment of the United States and even the relationship I had with acting at a young age versus how things are done in France, where it felt like there was such respect for time, tradition, and conversation.
Kylie: Like, natural tits.
Timothee: I have always been curious about philosophy. I liked Arthur Schopenhauer when I was in college, because his work feels properly existentially nihilistic, and French poet Arthur Rimbaud, who did all his best work by the time he was 19 or 20.
Kylie: Just gorgeous. Like perfect size, perfect everything.
Timothee: Acting is the ability to connect with different characters, to explore the depths of human emotion.
Kylie: And I just wish, obviously, that I'd never got them done to begin with.
Timothee: I naturally have a me-against-the world mentality, and I've been fighting it since I was 13. It's felt like it's only gotten me in lonely, angry places.
Kylie: That's false, I've only gotten fillers.
Timothee: I am still trying to separate my personal and my professional life. My old drama teacher gave me that advice. He told me to protect my emotions and to keep my private life private as much as I can. The danger is you can end up focusing more on what’s going on off-camera than on-camera. You don’t want to be entertaining for the sake of being entertaining. The work should be the work.
Kylie: *looks at herself in mirror and preens*

As I remember those treacherous times, when uncertainty was our only certainty, I am profoundly touched by the immense strength of character exhibited by the villagers of Chambon-sur-Lignon. They stood tall, firm, and unwavering in their resolve, their moral compass guiding their path. With their quiet defiance and courageous compassion, they struck a blow against the brutal machinery of oppression, a blow that reverberates down through the years, as potent as it was in those dark days. Despite the violent tempest that Nazism unleashed, they chose the path of love over fear, of humanity over hatred. They chose to put their lives at stake to uphold the sanctity of others. This audacity of compassion is as beautiful as it is rare. I am yet to find a more eloquent expression of humanity. The lessons from Chambon-sur-Lignon are not frozen in time. They live with us, in every act of kindness we extend to strangers, in every stand we take against injustice, in every instance when we rise above the labels that seek to divide us. These lessons permeate my soul, a constant reminder that our moral choices define us far more than our circumstances. To say that I am grateful would be an understatement. How does one measure the worth of a life saved, of hope restored? How do you quantify the relief in a mother's eyes, the renewed laughter of a child, the gratitude of an elderly man who saw one more sunrise, thanks to the villagers' indomitable spirit? Their gift was not just of survival, but of faith - faith in the innate goodness that survives even in the worst of times. My last will, the bequest to the village, is a humble attempt to repay a fraction of the debt of gratitude I owe. It is my deepest wish that it serves as a tribute to the people of Chambon-sur-Lignon, nurturing the seeds of compassion, courage, and community spirit in the generations to come. I want it to empower the voices that echo their ancestors' moral courage, and encourage them to pen their own narratives of valor and compassion. As the sun sets on my life, I look back at the journey I was privileged to undertake, a journey that started from the precipice of despair and led to the plains of hope, thanks to the villagers of Chambon-sur-Lignon. They showed us that heroes often walk among us, unsung and unnoticed, their actions writing sonnets of courage and humanity that inspire long after they're gone. Let this legacy not just be a tale of the past, but a call to action. May each of us find the courage to rise above our fears, to uphold the values of empathy, courage, and justice in the face of adversity. Remember, the darkness of the night can't diminish the light of a single candle. The villagers of Chambon-sur-Lignon were those candles in our night. May their light continue to illuminate our paths, inspire our actions, and guide our moral compass. From the core of my being, I say thank you, Chambon-sur-Lignon. Thank you for the courage you displayed, for the lives you saved, and for the lessons you imparted. Your actions weren't just a chapter in a history book; they were a testament to the power of compassion and a compelling reminder of the innate goodness that dwells within us all. Thank you.

According to a photo posted by Aqababe on Twitter Timmy and Kylie J. are in Le Chambon-sur-Lignon in France, it sounds unlikely said like that LOL but i believe it, and the photo convinced me. Taking her to his family home is a good hideout (well, almost). I don't think he's been going there much in the last few years, unlike Pauline, so it must mean something to him to take her there where his sister and father might be.
