February 14th, 1931
Dear Charles,
A happy Valentineâs Day to you, my friend! I hope youâll forgive the bit of kitsch enclosed, for I have no one else to whom I could possibly send a valentine without it being interpreted as some kind of serious overture. But when I saw this fellow, I simply had to share him. A peculiar card, isnât it? Poor attempts at feline humor aside, the cat in question is somewhat off-putting, Iâd say. Those mad eyes, sharp claws; the strange lack of front legs. And the text just adds to the threatening air. I got a real kick out of it and thought you might too.Â
Did you make any plans for the evening? I am, of all things, going to the picture house to see the new âDraculaâ film. Perhaps not the most romantic outing, but the chatter from the New York premiere is grand. And I will be accompanying a quite spectacular new actress whom I met just a few weeks ago. If Iâm being entirely honest, I write âspectacularâ not to describe her talentâshe is certainly not the next Clara Bowâbut her looks, which more than make up the difference. Perhaps youâll find that terribly shallow, but Iâm learning that the film industry relies heavily on its stars being rather nice to look at. After all, the audience is so much closer to them than they are to a performer on a stage.Â
But the medium does have its other benefitsâit is much easier to create a sense of illusion and wonder when you can manipulate the final product so completely. Not that I am looking to adapt my old act into a picture, but one does marvel at the possibilities. In any case, Iâm looking forward to see what they do with the bizarre fruits of Bram Stokerâs imagination.Â
Thank goodness we donât have to drink blood to remain immortal. Dracula really did get the bad end of the deal. Then again, he was able to pass on his strange disease to othersâthough he did it quite badly. If we had that capability, would you take advantage of it? Would you create for yourself a forever valentine? The idea is tempting, though only Lord knows who it would be. It certainly wonât be this actress, fine as she is to gaze upon.Â
I will write again to tell you of my thoughts about the film, by which point you may have seen it as well. I personally am in the habit of going to see pictures the day they come into theaters and perhaps you are too. How would I know when you never tell me anything beyond the contents of your work? Though I suppose I canât complain too much when youâve secured the eminently capable Mister Weston, Esquire. Do let me know if he requires any further information from me to secure our entry into new life.Â
I hope the mysterious work youâre doing in Washington is yielding the results you hope. I continue to enjoy the Western part of this country immensely and will remain here for some time, as,
Your friend,
John Fogg

alright itâs time for a chambers and fogg yearning roundup: Chapter IV - Chicago 1929 edition.
Up first: a moment from Fogg that is basically just shameless flirting:

Up next: the unabashed admission that Fogg thinks Chambers has a number of positive traits, and the implication that while Chambers likes Fogg and finds him interesting, he doesnât feel good enough for him.

UH CHAMBERS? WHAT DOES THIS MEAN, MR. CHARLIE CHAMBERS WHAT. In all seriousness. The invitation from Fogg for Chambers to open up. Chambers cutting himself off from saying something ostensibly homo-fucking-sexual. If I had to guess either going to say that he would realize Chambers is queer or that he has feelings for Fogg specifically.

First of all, hurray for some feminist allies, second of all, the immediate horror and shock Chambers experiences around the idea of having a girlfriend is iconic and so queer of him.

these are indeed the correct years!! but, actually, the plan is to do it for 10 years and technically, we started in 2024 (I backdated the first two episodes lol) so 2034 will have the release of Episode 13, which will take place in 2046, because I thought it'd be fun to glimpse into the future a bit. but who really knows what will happen! I also do like the neatness of 2033-2033.
but lol yeah, the fact that 1929 and 2020 are two of the episode years but the episode takes place on jan 1 and therefore before the, uh, events of those years is very funny to me

Dear New Year's Day podcast writers,
This does NOT bode well at all
#new year's day podcast#chambers and fogg#also OBVIOUSLY 1942 being the next is very much IN the shit#but yeah this year's ep and the 2020 ep are both like#oh sweeties#you don't even know what's coming

Podcasts To Listen To If You Like Good Omens
I made a similar post for OFMD last year and I really wanted to make one for Good Omens!

Where The Stars Fell
Dr. Edison Tucker is having a very weird life. Not being able to die tends to color things that way. Lucille Kensington is the literary sceneâs biggest enigma. Thatâs just the way she likes it. When the pair find themselves sharing a cabin in the strangest town in Americaâ Jerusalem, ORâ theyâre prepared for a housemate situation from hell. What theyâre not expecting is tidings of a stranger sort: Ed is the antichrist, Lucy her guardian angel, and if they canât find a way to work together soon, the rapture is set to take first the town, then the world⊠but neither of them know that yet. Welcome to Jerusalem, OR, where what doesnât kill you is just another mystery.
Angels, demons, trying to prevent the apocalypse, enemies to lovers who bicker like an old married couple - what more do you want? Where The Stars fell is absolutely beautiful and (at least in my opinion) the perfect podcast for Good Omens fans.
The Amelia Project
The Amelia Project is a secret agency that fakes its clients' deaths, then lets them reappear with a brand new identity! A black comedy full of secrets, twists⊠and cocoa. The series starts as a succession of interviews with clients who want to fake their deaths, then slowly a larger narrative begins to emergeâŠ
This podcast is so funny, and the Interviewer really reminds me of Aziraphale sometimes! Every episode of the latest season is basically like a Good Omens flashback episode, featuring two (kinda) immortal people living through the centuries with many shenanigans.
New Year's Day
New Year's Day is a yearly fiction podcast from the team behind The Bright Sessions that comes out every January 1st. Out of the billions of human beings in the world, there are just two that share an earth-shattering secret. Charles Chambers and John Fogg are immortal; since making this discovery, they meet up every 13 years to discuss the world, their lives, and the unique challenges of living forever.
The concept of this show is so cool, and the slow burn rivals to lovers story is absolutely perfect for Good Omens fans!
Hello From The Hallowoods
Darker than your dreams, and farther North than you remember, there is a forest where life and death meet⊠Come walk between the black pines! In this award-winning queer fiction podcast, a cosmic narrator follows the increasingly connected residents of the forest at the end of the world. It's a bittersweet story that explores queer identity, horror genre tropes, and finding hope in humanity's last moments.
If you like Crowley, you will love Polly - a red-haired demons who is sent to Earth and catches more feelings there than he signed up for. Sounds familiar, doesn't it? While Good Omens is about trying to prevent the apocalypse, HFTH is about finding hope after the apocalypse has already happened. It's my favorite podcast of all time and I highly recommend it. It is a horror podcast, though, so please check the trigger warnings before you start listening.

Undead Girl Murder Farce Episode 6: The Phantom Thief and The Detective
Forget aging like fine wine, Undead Girl Murder Farce is evolving right in front of our eyes. With each step, each frame it changes shape and form, molding itself into what it desires in that exact moment. Transitioning from comedy to cunning, creativity to combat at the drop of a hat and making it an effortless transformation at that. An endlessly impressive feat that only grows in ability and nature as time marches onward. I absolutely can't get enough of it.
I mean, they start the episode with Tsugaru and Shizuku misplacing Aya's head. The detective that's supposed to go toe-to-toe with the greats of France and England respectively is accidentally replaced by a parrot of all things. I feel like I have to scream from the rooftops how much I love this idea.
First and foremost, this is a farce.
It is a failure, a comically dumb mistake. And it's an expert idea. It embodies the nature of the characters, the fact that they're meant to be silly and weird and that they could never measure up to Holmes or Lupin in a battle (whether it be of brain, or brawn like we see later in the episode). I just love it. Aosaki completely sells out his characters in the mockery that he so desires. I'll say it one more time, I just love it. It's not cunning that brings the Cage User into contact with the Phantom Thief and Phantom of The Opera, it is pure chance due to the severity of their slipup. It's just so good.
Anyways, to Holmes and Lupin first. I loved this a lot as well, quite a lot, really. The idea of the two minds challenging one another so brazenly is such a fun idea, and I love how they do it.
Even better than that is that they don't hide anything from viewers. Right away (well on the first close up), you can see that "Sherlock's" eyes are a different color and feature a different style of pupil. Rather than the blue with rings that he usually sports, it's the plain yellow irises that denote Lupin's that are in his place.
Such a great and simple detail that I'm sure many could have easily missed. Another great piece was Watson's comment on the security of Fogg's mansion, which Lupin downplays. Sherlock made a disparate comment prior to that, which Lupin wouldn't have known about, so Watson is momentarily confused before Lupin steers the conversation away from it.
Also, super cool that Mycroft Holmes makes an appearance in the episode to immediately draw the curtain on Lupin's disguise. While he states it's the fingernails of Holmes (which are different than the prior episode, and are in line with Lupin's fingernails), I feel like another giveaway would be how Lupin refers to Mycroft. Though it's not like we have any way of confirming.
Moving on, this line in particular was an amazing tipoff to viewers as to what it was that Lupin was doing with his visit to Holmes.
Allow me to explain. There's two specific things that Lupin did during his visit that are fundamental to how both he and Sherlock Holmes approach this burglary.
One: The disguise. Lupin asserts the fact that he is a master of disguise, someone that can effortlessly mimic the presence and character of another person, that he can blend in with those around him.
Two: The lock. He shows to Holmes how easily he can open and intrude on the safety that a lock is meant to provide. That he can effortlessly access anything that is designed to keep him out.
So, what's the purpose of showing his hand? To provide misdirection. Lupin was never the one that was going to steal the Penultimate Night, it was Erik. Erik, who can blend into a crowd without a disguise. Erik, who is far more flexible and fluid than Lupin and can expose other ways to enter the Chamber of Additional Crimes. It's an incredible setup on a one-two punch that sees Lupin use the blistering intellect of Holmes against himself, and I think it's an incredibly good piece.
Arguably even better than that though is our trio coming into contact with them. As I said earlier, it was sheer chance, but they immediately use it to their benefit by encouraging a response from Lupin that gets him to expose his nature to Tsugaru in a fight. It's really, really, really great that they play Lupin exactly as Lupin played Holmes. Such an interesting relationship. Anyways, here's the fight with impressive choreography, color, conversation, and combat. Just entirely impeccable work that provides a style decidedly different (might I also add once more here) to all of our fight scenes to date.
And the icing on the cake? The sound of the Kabuki clappers, alongside the toll of Big Ben. The signal that tonight's farce has begun. I love the inclusion of this idea. Such a great auditory addition.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, Mycroft mentions Baritsu by name??? As in, the form of martial arts that was created by Sherlock Holmes in an Arthur Conan Doyle novel?? Incredibly cool to see how much detail Aosaki's put into the lives of infamous characters like these.
Of course, a story featuring Holmes and Watson and that whole entourage would feel imbalanced if Lupin didn't have his "buddy" appear as well. That is, the inspector Ganimard who is as close to Lupin's nemesis as you may reach. I should also add that the existence of Ganimard in this story makes the question of what it is that Lupin stole from the box even more interesting.
Anyways, the night begins, the detectives take their place in the Chamber of Additional Crimes. Aside from our trio of Aya, Shizuku, and Tsugaru. An interesting exclusion, but immediately we understand why.
An intruder appears from the North building, putting everyone on red alert. Holmes, of course, knows this is simply part of the play that Lupin's enacted, so he takes the necessary steps to ensure the curtains fall early on his performance. By shooting shut the doors.
From one chance meeting, and a single sentence relayed to the chamber, Lupin is able to trap his prey effortlessly. And from there, it's a race against time as water floods the chamber.
This episode seriously went by in the blink of an eye. The story and characters played their roles so perfectly that I was hardly paying attention to storyboarding or direction. It all meshed so effortlessly that it's near impossible to isolate one from the other. The storyboarding is influenced by the content of the episode, and is a reflection of that. They're two halves of a whole that are incomplete without one another, missing details and information that render our farce a failure instead.
I absolutely cannot wait to see what happens with the next episode as Lupin faces off against the "insurance" agency and our cage user. Insanely curious to see if he bares his fangs towards either, and if we get any confirmation of Erik's true nature (if there is one). Time and time again, Undead Girl Murder Farce delivers the episode of the week as if it was simply another Wednesday.

Following that, in the weeks to come, Iâll discuss a wide variety of things from the 80s and 90s. Synopsis: Bakersfield, California, 1990. Local high school student Bebe-Lynn Sanders is missing. Each day that passes causes more and more worry for the entire town. She was seen cutting through Quailwood Park on her way to rent a movie the morning she vanished. Her last appearance was later that night outside the popular hangout, Jimmy's Arcade. No one knows where she went. No one knows what happened. Join mildly-idiotic kids Grant Fieldgrove and Roxy Roxburgh as they stumble, scheme, and steamroll their way through Bakersfield in the late 80s and early 90s, desperately on the hunt for a Nintendo, fake earrings from Miller's Outpost, tickets to see Vanilla Ice at the Civic Auditorium, and the ever-elusive holy grail - a porno mag! And, of course, Bebe-Lynn. Meet Me at Jimmy's Arcade is a hilarious and heartbreaking romp through a small California town way back when, filled with nostalgic stories, humor, mystery, arcades, and malls. March 23rd, 1932
My fortunes continue to improve in the most ordinary ways. Though the tides of time have not swept the market back out to clearer waters, I find myself fretting less about it on this particular week.Â
The cherry blossoms are beginning to bloom and they become no less glorious the more years I witness their resurgence. I had the pleasure of accompanying Miss Eudora Hale and her aunt on a walk to enjoy their splendors and found the whole outing invigorating. Fresh air and ambulating is always a balm for the body and soul, but it was the conversation I found most renewing.Â
I made Miss Haleâs acquaintance some months ago and have, in all honesty, avoided much contact since, despite finding our first meeting quite diverting. It is only recently that I have been reminded that it isnât the eighties anymore, and Iâm allowed enjoy the company of a young woman without the suffocating expectation of a proposal. I, of course, must still be careful as to not lead her to the wrong conclusions in regards to her understanding of my affections, but I expect she views me more as an elder brother than anything else.Â
It has been many years since I formed a friendship beyond one of circumstance or convenience. So long, in fact, that I hadnât known to miss the unique pleasures of having the opportunity to learn someoneâs mind. Miss Hale is bright and charming, with a wit sharp enough to cut even the sturdiest of men. Though we met at a gathering of scientistsâthe occupation of her fatherâshe is more interested in the arts. She has many opinions to share in regards to sculpture and paintings, and is incredibly well-read for someone so young. But her real love is live performance.Â
She was delighted to hear that I had known a man who worked in the theater once (a man of my own creationâa blend of Foggâs experiences and my own) and has very generously indulged me as I walk down memory lane. Itâs wonderful to see her eyes grow wide as I describe the illusionist arts of the last century (explained to me by this dear, old friend who has since passed, of course) and the burst of new theater I experienced while living in New York.Â
Regaling Miss Hale with stories from my lifeâespecially a part of it that feels so very long agoâhas been a vital reminder that I have, in fact, lived a very interesting one. It is easy to get stuck in the doldrums of my never-ending existence, and while wallowing in the past is certainly not a cure-all for that feeling, a visit every now and then is bolstering for the spirit, I think. My life has shifted so dramatically since the Worldâs Fair, both for the better and the worse, and I daresay it will shift again and again and again.Â
It is heartening to think that, though the cherry blossoms will be gone in a few short weeks, theyâll return again next year. Living things are most remarkable in their state of change.Â
