Chalk Streams
Crystal clear chalk streams intertwine and weave throughout the counties of Dorset and Hampshire in southern England. There are just over 200 chalk streams globally, 85% of which are found in southern England. They are a unique ecosystem supporting a high biodiversity of wild creatures. Light reflected from the surface of the nearby sea is overlaid on to these river landscapes, creating a sparkling ingress. The transposed light symbolises rising sea levels as they insidiously impose themselves on these pristine landscapes.

thinking about how law was (apparently??) being raised in the one piece catholic church™. thinking about how he specifically refers to the victories of the strawhats as miracles. thinking about how luffy has a god's devil fruit. thinking about law inclining his head and closing his eyes like he's praying towards the end of gear 5 luffy fighting kaido. is this anything.

The problem with having puppers is that you start scolding everything out of habit:
Aus post who is keeping my package in customs for 387903 million years? No :(
C-ptsd induced emotional flashbacks with the classic flinch response? No 😓
youtube who paused my song RIGHT before the best part to ask ‘time to take a break ^^?’ even though I never set such a thing and I bet it’s choosing to be annoying on purpose bc I deleted it last week to prevent distractions and it has since been reinstated: Nooo 😡

9, 15, or 16?
(artist asks)
9. how much time do you spend drawing on an average day?
sometimes it's 6 hour sessions, sometimes it's 14 hour sessions!!!! (with breaks ofc) i'll do nothing but draw (or think about drawing) for that entire time. it's getting to be more and more common tho that i draw for shorter amounts of time (1-2 hours) at a time, usually when im busy or just wanna do somethin quick. 6-8 hours is pretty common tho!!!!

Im watching wild isles (David Attenborough series about british isles nature) and its wild how theres the cutest most storybook creatures ever. And then over the top is a voice saying "97% of this habitat has been lost" or "60% of insect species have been lost"

Simply do not get the recent obsession with ""Physical Media"" in people who are pro-piracy like. Why are the same files suddenly more Holy when they're put onto some DVD instead of a hard drive

Creative Project: The Chalk Stream Guardian Dress
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
After a wonderful sojourn into the Ladywell Guardian project for Dover History at Night, I am returning daily now to my original idea about a river spirit - that protector of the local waterway where I grew up, and where, at mid-life, I have returned.
I have written already about my astonishment for the rarity of the little river which runs through my large village. I spent hours by the side of the waters growing up: feeding the ducks, paddling in wellies, watching the model boats, avoiding the swans. But I never once thought that this stream was special in a broader sense.  40 years later and I discovered that chalk streams were not only rare, but that those that exist do so mainly in the corner of the world where I grew up: River in Kent.
Given the name of my village, I had long appreciated that it’s existence was intimately connected with that of the river Dour which flows unceasingly through it.  A chalk aquifer fed water source keeps the water at a constant flow, temperature and acidity vital to the species relying on this habitat.  The river has supported all kinds of industry in the village, including a paper mill, an abbey and a restored and working corn mill.
Back to my project – to find a way to represent that precious habitat in a stitched dress – which in turn stands for the spririt, the essence of the river.  I still love the process of stiching words into the garment for the viewer to discover, and these will be made up of all the elements which create the uniqueniss of a chalk fed stream.  It starts with the geology, incorporates the profile of the river, it’s indicator species, and will end with the placement of humans alongside that habitat.  How we influence, threaten and ultimately, I hope, protect the chalk stream.
