My name is Anas Al Burri. I am 17 years old, and I live in G*za. My sister has jaundice because she gave birth to her child in an unhygienic area during the war. She has no medication, and her condition is worsening, almost life-threatening. She is too ill to produce milk for her son, and we can't get milk from anywhere else. I have no medication for my diabetes! I am missing insulin, and my blood sugar is critically high, often above 180 and sometimes even 400. Three months ago, my 14-year-old brother Ahmad was searching for something to eat when he was sh*ot in the ch*est by sni*pers from a kilometer away. The bul*let went straight through his body. How many fictional people were harmed in the making of this WIP?

This is a complicated question…

I’ll count Ruby as a casualty. She was supposed to be the 5th and final MC but only lasted through Ch. 1 because there was no place for her. She might come back, but the actual final MC is revealed in Chapter 11 (though you won’t meet them until Book 2).

There will be a major character death by the end of Book One.

What’s the weirdest thing someone eats in your WIP? What’s the best thing?

Fey berries, which are the hallucinogenic fruits that Adrin decides to eat with no prior information, are completely flavorless. These berries also happen to be one of the two foods everyone has been eating to survive, the other being unseasoned fish. I’m a monster.

The best thing…I mean Oliver inhales an entire loaf of bread in Ch. 11. It’s not even good bread, he’s just desperate.

Lim Ryung-gu wouldn’t say he hates his job at the local all-you-can-eat barbecue joint. Granted, he wouldn’t say he likes it, either, but apathy is pretty much his default setting, so that doesn’t mean much. But slinging meats at inebriated diners doesn’t require more than Lim Ryung-gu is willing to give, plus the tips are good, the owners are generous, and most days his shift passes relatively uneventfully. For all that the smoke gets stuck to his skin, there are worse ways to pay off his lingering debts.

…Or at least that’s what he tells himself when a table of teens tries to dine and dash, or an old man a few too many bottles of soju deep gets a little too fresh. Neither happens as often, anymore. Possibly (probably?) because of Lim Ryung-gu’s habit of dispensing bloody noses in retribution.

What can he say – he’s a professional, not a saint , and old habits die hard.
