we were a fresh page on the desk filling in the blanks as we go as if the street lights pointed in an arrowhead leading us home - cornelia street, taylor swift
I've been wanting to post this for a few days, but I'm so happy with this commission of Hunt and Sadie from @hsslilly-blog!! I heavily relate a lot of my work to Taylor Swift in one way or another, with Sadie having her as a faceclaim and sharing her penchant for some of the same aesthetics, while Hunt shares a lot of similarities to Taylor as an artist and as a person.
I'm excited to write more about them so that I can expand on their story!!

Toast, do the ro's have a morning routine? and would it change with mc?
Mace is a simple man: alarm, snooze, realization that times-a-wasting, wash face to wake up, breakfast, teeth, chores. Wouldn't change a bit except he'd probably squeeze in some snuggles instead of snoozing his alarm, and be sullen about getting up instead of staying there. Double the breakfast since MC deserves to have breakfast in bed.
Alice almost never gets up for her first alarm, not until she hears Soledad starting her day. That's when she gets up, gets dressed (evening showers supporter), and heads downstairs to help her grandma make breakfast for the whole family. After that it's teeth, hair, makeup, chores. The sheep take up most of her morning because she can't help cuddling. Wouldn't change much with MC, except she'd pull them along through her morning lol
Judge has a very rigid morning routine. Old habits die hard, so he's not going to change. Up at first alarm, meticulous making of the bed, go for a jog. Come home, shower, breakfast is one cup of coffee and whatever type of eggs he feels like making. Check the news. Wash teeth, get dressed, go get the day.
Sadie is an early bird and she loves her morning routine, which is mostly her waking up, doing some simple stretches, and then starting her skincare routine. Breakfast smoothie/bowl, read news while listening to music, go over some emails while she's at it. Finish skincare routine and get ready for work. Simple joys. She'd definitely help MC join her skincare meticulousness, and it'd be a nice, slow morning together.

blockbuster
Tumblr media
Sadie waits outside the new Blockbuster in the cold. She’s been to a Blockbuster before – they all have – but this one feels different. This one is on the streets where they learned to drive, and that just seems more special. A full circle now that they’re all done with college.
She talked it over with Lucy, and they have a plan. As soon as the doors open, they’re going to rush inside and rent the three videos that mean the most to them. Lucy used to have a copy of The Outsiders, but when Elenore was a year old, she knocked it off a high shelf and pulled all the film out. Sadie was babysitting her at the time, and she thought Lucy would be pissed. But she wasn’t. When she and Will came home from Sarah’s birthday dinner, Lucy just laughed. She picked Elenore up and said, “Well, I always knew girls wanted to get inside that movie. Now I’ve got proof.”
Lucy, of course, is late today. Elenore had a doctor’s appointment right before close of business, and of course, the pediatrician was running behind. When Sadie answered the phone at home, and Lucy sounded panicked, Sadie thought for a moment that the doctor’s appointment hadn’t gone well, that there was something wrong with Elenore. Thank goodness there wasn’t. Lucy just felt terrible that she was behind again. She’s been running late to things for almost six years. Six years in April.
Sometimes, Sadie wonders what it would have been like if Lucy didn’t get pregnant in eleventh grade, or if she hadn’t gone through with it. Maybe those are awful things to think about, especially the latter, but it’s hard not to play with alternate timelines. What would have happened? Would Lucy make it to appointments on time? Would she be working on her master’s degree at Wayne State like she is today? Would she and Sadie be single-lady roommates in Detroit? Would they have gone somewhere else?
But it’s no use. She knows the answers to all of those questions. Without Elenore, they would have disintegrated. All of them. Lucy would have moved to Boston four and a half years ago. Will would have married someone nondescript, someone he accepted more than loved. Sam wouldn’t be thinking about opening a little store one day where people like Elenore could come in, discover new music, and change their lives. Sadie wouldn’t be married to Daniel. She might not be working on a master’s degree of her own. She and Lucy probably wouldn’t even be best friends. Just an obligatory Christmas card with polite but intangible promises to get together if they’re ever in the same area.
Better late than on the coast.
Sadie turns her head when she hears huffing and singing in the distance.
“Don’t sleep in the subway, darling! / Don’t stand in the pourin’ raaaaaiiin …” come on, Elenore, you like this song!”
“I don’t like it when I’m running!”
“We have to run! Come on! You try to be smart, then you … take it to heart!”
“Why are we running?”
“Because we have to see Sadie!”
“Sadie!”
She and Elenore spot each other from across the parking lot. At first, Elenore begins to dart across, but Lucy – faster than she ever remembers – scoops her up and makes her go slow.
“Ah-ah-ah!” Lucy says. “Do we run across parking lots? Ever? At all? Especially when it’s dark?”
“No, Mom.”
“Very good. You’re lucky it’s just me and not Daddy. He would have cried.”
“He always cries.”
“Yes, he does. Now, hold my hand, and well walk to go see Sadie.”
They take the last few steps before approaching. Sadie knows she can’t control the smile on her face as she bends down to give Elenore a hug. Elenore, Elenore, Elenore. The girl who changed it all.
“Hi, Sadie,” Elenore says. “Did you know my dad always cries?”
Sadie laughs.
“Yes, I did.”
“I think it’s funny.”
Lucy squeezes Elenore’s shoulder and looks up at Sadie.
“I really am so sorry we’re late,” Lucy says. “Doctors should be on time.”
“It’s OK,” Sadie says. “I’d rather you take Elenore for her check-up than skip it. Gotta make sure our girl is as perfect as we think she is.”
Elenore beams.
“So, what movies are we getting?” she asks.
“Good question, babe,” Lucy says. “Mommy wants you to see The Red Shoes.”
“Which Sadie thinks is insane,” Sadie adds. “She’s five years old.”
“Almost six,” Lucy and Elenore say at the same time.
“Still!”
“My daughter is very advanced, Sadie. If I shelter her from great art, who does that help? More importantly, who does it hurt?”
“I think you’re talking double.”
“Little bit, yeah, but there’s a point wedged in there.”
Sadie laughs.
“Well, I want you to see The Care Bears Movie,” she says. “I think you’d like it.”
“I like Care Bears,” Elenore says. “Sure.”
“And then, we’re going to rent The Outsiders,” Lucy says. “Like we did before you were born. You might not like that one yet.”
Elenore mulls it over.
“Is that the one I pulled out all the tape?” she asks.
Lucy and Sadie look at each other and try to avoid erupting.
“Yes,” Lucy says delicately. “Yes, it is.”
“Yeah. I might not like that one yet.”
Sadie bites her lip to keep from more laughter. Yes, she can imagine a world where Lucy didn’t get pregnant in high school, and even a world where Lucy and Will had a baby a few years later. But that baby wouldn’t have been Elenore. Beautiful, brilliant, perfect little Elenore. They wouldn’t be standing out here, waiting for the Blockbuster doors to open, friends after all this time. Without Elenore, Lucy would be a memory. A stranger.
As the doors open, and the patrons filter inside, Lucy gives Sadie a strange look.
“Yeah?” Sadie asks.
“Nothing, I think,” Lucy says. “You just look … like you’re worried about something.”
Sadie shakes her head.
“Nope! I don’t see anything to worry about here.”
Lucy nods, but that strange look is still behind her eyes. Somehow, Sadie knows she’s thinking the same thing.
I’m so glad you’re really here.
I’m so glad you’re not a memory.

"How about it, darlin'? A night out, just two of us. Reckon it's about time we had another date. Nat could use the place all to herself." Sadie smiled as she glanced over to Piper at their usual table in that little garden or courtyard, whatever it was -- just outside Piper's office. "Summer's gone, so we could go out without suffering from the unbearable heat."
Tumblr media
piper's sitting with a leather jacket on and it's not because it's now cold -- that's just to hide the fact that she's still wearing her night clothes. this quaint, little backyard was shared with a few other apartments and businesses. a courtyard they all came together to decorate and tend to. it's rather poetic.
Tumblr media
the journalist just sets down the pen and paper, looks up at sadie. doesn't say anything, but she does smile. if only because piper doesn't display physical affection much in public. the moments filled with passion and heavy emotion are always the exceptions. she's just tired of questions and glances.
" some kind of nice ride? a walk down by the docks? did you have something particular in mind ... that's a yes. "

i think i do okay for myself, so it's sweet for you to say that. i'll have new show announcements coming out soon, keep an eye out.
Tumblr media
That's incredibly cute! I'll be excited to hear what they eventually come up with. Kids come up with the silliest things sometimes, but I love it.
That's a really cool mix. I'd love to hear some of your music sometime. It also sounds like you already have a pretty decent fanbase, so I imagine you'll get signed pretty easily. You deserve it!

How would the important characters (not just the ROs, I wanna know about old man G, too!) react/behave if the MC came with a young child in tow? Not necessarily from the Ex storyline, could even just be a kid they've sorta adopted, but I'm curious.
I love it when people wanna hear about old man G <3
Charles would be the type of old man who warms up slowly, like, starts off with harrumphs when given flower crowns or asked to color something. But catch him teaching the young'un the tricks of the trade that he learned as a wee lad, and you know the grumpy old fella would protect that kid with his very life. (Might let them name a calf before the MC, even)
Mace would be over the moon because it's been a long time since he got to teach the younger generation about his way of life. You know, hard work and all that, but mostly his zest for life and love for the animals in their care, how nature works. Plus he'd have a reason to pull out ye olde trampoline. Not something a grown man can do for himself you know?
Alice doesn't exactly know how to act around kids, but she'd try her best once she and MC got closer. Might need to be smacked in the arm when she curses (imagine the "ah shit - wait no, sorry, fuck - I - argh" scenario) but she wants to be the cool kinda aunt for MCs kid. Every time she meets them, they're gonna learn something new and exciting about the town, she'll make sure of that. Might even come up with a little drink for them.
Kinda just wanna say Judge wouldn't really react, just acknowledge the child and move on, but that's no fun. His line of work doesn't really mesh well with the youngest generation, but at least he'd make sure the entire little family is safe, in his own way. Imagine the kid wanting to hear the wee woo and see the lights and him just begrudgingly obliging. That's the ultimate firm of respect lol.
Sadie would ask questions. Like does MC need help getting full custody, is the paperwork airtight, check for loopholes - she's just nice like that because she does NOT know how to deal with kids unless they're from her family tree. Unless the kid was good at debating, then she'd be there all day holding court with the little genius. She'd do her darndest to teach everything she knows too, the kid's gonna be a law whiz before 10.
BONUS!
Soledad would be the kids grandma no doubt. Watch her wobble over with her cane all the way to the ranch just to deliver a homemade nicuatole as a 'welcome to the valley' present. Will babysit in a heartbeat, and oh boy that child would learn so much from her, all from sheep shearing to cooking. I kinda wanna see it.

but --
Sadie writes all about her first kiss with Nick Crosby in her diary for about a week after it happens. She writes about how she was unprepared, how she couldn’t be more surprised that of all people to kiss her, it was Nick Crosby, how she knows she should start liking him now.
But –, she writes, just like that. With the dash.
Because she stops herself.
How can there be the matter of but? When a guy like Nick Crosby, the most accomplished, popular, and cutest guy in the whole eighth grade, kisses you, what is there to consider? Sure, he’ll probably pretend they never had a moment, never kissed, never acknowledged one another in the slightest. But isn’t he the kind of guy that Sadie should like? Isn’t he the kind of guy she should go for, even if he doesn’t like her back? And who’s to say he wouldn’t like her back? He did kiss her, didn’t he? He’s kissed other girls before, like Kim and Vicky, but he didn’t kiss either of them at Kim’s party the other night. Just Sadie. Maybe he’s popular, but maybe he’s still a more reasonable choice.
A more reasonable choice compared to whom?
Sadie pretends like she doesn’t know.
She stares at the word and the dash in her journal. But – what? Who? All other names and faces should have disappeared as soon as popular, athletic lips brushed hers and meant it. She knows that. She knows it every time she remembers what it was like to kiss someone like Crosby. She knows it every time she hears “Do That to Me One More Time” on the radio. This is what it’s supposed to be. This is what pretty is supposed to feel like. This is what a dream is supposed to be like when you’re fourteen, and no one has ever glanced in your direction.
But –
Sadie knows.
But Daniel.
It doesn’t matter that Daniel doesn’t see her that way. It doesn’t matter that they’re only friends. Maybe it will be like that forever. Maybe it won’t. Maybe Sadie will get over him tomorrow, and all this fretting will have been for naught. Maybe she won’t. It’s no use in trying to guess. All she knows is that when she thinks about kissing a boy again (if that ever happens), it’s not Nick Crosby. It’s always Daniel DeLuca, and it’s always more fun than it is terrifying. A popular kiss is heavy.
Sadie closes her journal and thinks a little about what it would be like to kiss Daniel.
Much better than the real thing, or so she imagines.

ABIGAIL (@loyalpromise): if something doesn't feel right to you, it usually isn't. x
Tumblr media
❛ ol' dutch is crackin'. somethin' ain't right with that man. ❜ a hell of a lot of somethings haven't been. for quite some time, now. it's been wrong more than it's been right. and they've been causing more wrongs than righting them- left, right and centre. familiar faces are steadily fading, with unfamiliar (and all too untrustworthy) ones taking their places. the discontent before the storm is being wrought and felt by all- some more than others ❛ whole damn thing feels like it's fallin' apart, don't it? it sure as hell ain't my place, but... if i were you, i'd take little jack and get. hell, i'd go with you! ❜ but, with what? and to where, exactly? the door to the cage is held, wide open, sometimes seemingly by the man himself... but what exactly lies beyond it? she admires abigail, always has done. but, she does not envy the woman- this life is no life for a boy. but, is it any better out there? is it even possible? or, is it worse? or just an altogether bad kind of different? then, there's john. and arthur. dutch's sons. even though the two have long been voicing their discontent, she imagines that convincing them to up and leave would be like trying to draw blood from a stone. they're good, loyal folks. good men- to the wrong people. to the wrong person, perhaps. ❛ but... i know it ain't nearly as simple as that. ❜
