@bcnedaddy at the apartment
Zane stretched his arms out in a yawn as he stumbled down the hallway on muscle memory alone, not even convinced his brain was functioning this early. He'd been sleeping like the dead lately, not hearing alarms or drifting off watching TV. Maybe he just needed a higher dose of caffeine. He hummed to himself reaching the kitchen, his hands lazily slapping cupboards until he found the right one and reached for a clean mug. "Sweet nectar of the gods" he smiled reaching for the pot of coffee and filling up his mug to the lip. He spun around to take a seat at the table, but braced himself against the counter in shock. "Shit Jack-- sometimes I forget you live here. --You been in here long?"

@bcnedaddy
Location; the apartment
Zane smiled as he entered the room, holding a paper tray of takeaway coffees in one hand. His usual anxious yet upbeat persona shining through, as he carefully recalled the tasks from the morning. "Oh no." He gasped, looking at Jack when the realisation hit him. "I forgot the pastries... I ordered the coffee and then... I must have got distracted talking to the cashier about lizard people... did you know they live in sewers?"

ZANE UNDERSTOOD JACK WAS A FAIR BOSS, a great friend, and dare he think a true brother to him. However that didn't stop the sickly feeling of anxiety at the thought of ever disappointing Jack, especially with something so trivial as pastries. But Zane couldn't relax until he heard it from Jack himself. Settling against the desk he held Jack's cup towards him, watching his housemate in awe as he dwelled on about lizard people--Zane had no idea his friend possessed such knowledge. "I mean I was just gonna' say how would they keep the glass cages clean in the sewers..." he explained, sheepishly. Jack was always one step ahead of everyone, thinking bigger & better things before the average person even finished their thought. It was part of why he admired Jack so much, his extensive knowledge of just about everything. "But like you're right, there's no way anyone could get heated lamps big enough. They'd get cold."
~
Jack was not a morning person. His mind was always awake at night, into the early hours of morning. It's when he was most focused and alert. He enjoyed the night, but mornings? Not so much. He was still pretty groggy and Zane's upbeat demeanor was not helping, but always pleasant. Jack smiled at the other and walked over, dressed but his hair still a bit messy. "Don't worry, the coffee is what's important," Jack said. He reached out to grab his but rose an eyebrow when Zane mentioned lizard people. "Interesting thought, but I fear you're wrong. Lizard's wouldn't thrive in a sewer for long. The climate wouldn't be right. Depending on the lizard they neat a damp or dry environment with heat. A sewer would be a bit too cold for them. Then again, this is lizard people. Their DNA and genetic make up could be quite different than your average lizard. Perhaps they have the advantages of a lizard as well as human ones. Adaptable to other environments." Now Jack was curious. This was all hypothetical of course but, still, he gets carried away.

Zane for @bcnedaddy at the apartment!
Zane almost tumbled through the hallway as he pulled a hoodie over his head, even for July he'd been finding the months a tad chillier than last year. Climate change--what can ya' do? He trudged not gracefully into the kitchen with a sleepy smile on his face as he saw his best pal; Jack. "Morning boss you're up early!" he chirped, reaching for his favorite ceramic mug. "Any big things happening today? What's on our calendar? I can be ready to leave in like uhhhh three and half minutes."

"You don't .. know?" Zane repeated, an eyebrow raised in both confusion and concern. Zane knew Jack could easily fall into a creative abyss and let the entire world whirl by him, he just wished he had found his friend before an entire night had passed. Zane watched Jack over the lip of his mug as he sipped on the coffee warming his always cold bones, nothing on Jack's face to indicate he hadn't slept-- the man was a statute of professionalism at every turn. Zane wasn't quite sure how his pal constantly achieved it. "Haha--yes, yes I did. You know I've been drinking like so much coffee and its like--not working. So I don't know maybe I'm cursed." Zane confessed with a careless shrug of his shoulders, even if the heavy slumbers were adding to his ever-growing list of anxieties. Small coma's alongside the missing people didn't equate to anything good-- and Zane didn't need Dipper to be here to tell him that, and he also couldn't dwell on that fact either. He huffed a laugh at Jack's words, wondering how the man would survive past noon without sleep when he certainly couldn't. "I was gonna' swing by the hotel and check on Mavis and Sib" Zane explained, not having much planned at all. He cocked his head to the side with a curious grin "Sick-- what have you been working on?"
~
Jack hadn't slept yet. (The yet was more of an 'if' he would.) He was riding an adrenaline high that resulted in him with a boost of writer's muse. Scribbling away furiously into his journal Jack never noticed Zane enter the kitchen. His footsteps must have been light as a ghost with how quiet he had been. Even when he spoke up to himself Jack didn't notice Zane. It wasn't until he heard his own name come out in a startled tone that he looked up. "I...don't know." He looked at the time on his watch and furrowed his brow. "I suppose I have." He looked over at Zane, his own cup of coffee he'd had now in his hand as he took a sip. After setting the mug down he stood up and stretched his arms out and yawned. Disheveled hair rested just above his eyes and he smoothed it back in attempt to look somewhat put together. "Did you sleep through your alarms again?" Jack had never heard them go off has he had been so hyper fixated on his writing. For once. A smile crossed over Jack's features as he looked at Zane. "Well, it's already late. No use in going to sleep now," he stated in regards to him not sleeping at all. "What's your plan for the day? I should probably take a break from writing but I also don't want to lose the streak I'm on."
