Yeah MC has had it pretty rough, especially since they come from a broken home (although they probably wouldn't be willing to call it that, at least at the start of the game). Like, the thing with their family is there was love there, but it wasn't enough, or it only served to make things worse. It doesn't help that outside their family, they never really made friends that were anything more than surface level, if your mc even bothered to make friends in the first place

At least it won't be that for much longer and things will start to look up for them (depending on how you play). They can finally form real connections with people and start to figure out life away from everything

Can MC dislike/hate their... profession and their life?

You'll have the option of picking whether or not MC really wants to be the ruler or even likes the idea (so yes, they can hate being monarch).

In terms of their life, MC has it pretty good - they were the heir, after all, so they've got plenty of cash, everyone they interact with loves them (or at least treats them with deference), and they basically get whatever material thing they want. So I don't think MC can really hate their life per say. You'll definitely be able to make an MC that's sick of being stuck on palace grounds or wishes they could have spent more time with their father though!

OOOoo this sounds interesting!! What parts of the MC personality are set? I don't usually play IFs with set or semi sets personalities at all, but I think I'd 100% be willing to give this a gander. I love anything even somewhat similar to The Hunger Games

first off!! thank you for giving my IF a chance!!! i understand the freedom of all chosen traits. still, with this IF, it just wasn't possible since the plot is heavily impacted and only continues due to flaws MC has... and if i gave a completely customizable MC, there'd either be tons of variables for flaws (and i am VERY new to coding) or the plot would feel awkward. maybe both.

by semi-set, i don't mean you won't get the basic choices of kind/rude and things of that sort-- just that some downfalls to MC have been put in place.

the flaws that MC does have is possessiveness. not in a romanticized or obsessive way, and it's very subtle in most routes. it could come off as jealousy if you squint. definitely not the main point and doesn't show up a lot. (their possessiveness doesn't mean that they want their RO all to themselves. its not like that.)

another is that their actions seem slightly... selfish... and do things that contribute only to them and finding their brother-- they're loyal to a fault to Finn, pretty much.

one of the biggest ones is that they are manipulative. and they lie. they don't manipulate the main cast, but they do lie to them... a lot.

(and there might be choices to add to this list by the player, but that is 100% not set in stone)

this story is messy. the characters, not just the MC, are messy. they all have problems that they need to solve within themselves. this story is set in a very cutthroat and dangerous world, so you can imagine what living in these kinds of environments would do to them.

feel free to ask about any and all of these!! i also want to note that none of these are healthy things to have-- that is why they're called flaws-- and it isn't treated like that. MC is well aware of this.

One minute their finally getting along with everyone the next they get possessed.

me writing a happy chapter where my main character forgets all their problems and just LIVES only to write a completely gut-wrenching follow up chapter where mc goes through the worst horrors a human should never have to endure:

when the two of you are done, you hold him on top of you for a few minutes, rubbing his back and stroking his hair. you’d never seen him so emotional before.

he finally pulls back to give you a proper kiss and look into your eyes. you stroke his cheeks, wiping any leftover tears away. and when you ask if he’s ok, he just sniffles and nods. he looks at you with those deceivingly innocent eyes, glossy lashes shimmering as he asks:

the mc and jinwol have a relationship of push and pull of inequality that takes the long way around to become something real. it's the concept of right person and wrong time. like passing by a familiar face in a crowd but turning to see nobody there – they keep missing one another, if just barely.

This is a bit embarrassing to admit, but upon reaching the day at work, with the option to smile on demand, I realized that's something I do unconsciously when around strangers and never realized before. My interpretation is that it'd be genuine for a Day MC and a mask to avoid worrying others for a Dawn MC. Since my MC seems to be Dawn, I'm curious with this interpretation if the ROs would notice while still friends (I'm guessing Rook probably would), and their thoughts upon finding out.

I think it really depends on how you play, and that's definitely one way to take it! Since the paths aren't exactly correlated to personality, I think that leaves a lot of things up to interpretation and how you view MC!

Yep there is! It's related to what happened during MC's Rite of Passage, which you'll see in the prologue

they're 27 years old

they come from a small town but moved around a lot

they couldn't attend college due to a family emergency

they grew up around ???? but lost touch around the time R and mc hit it off

they have a younger sibling

their dad is dead

their mom warned them against leaving with R for good

they've always wanted to escape the mundane life their parents had and have longed for the excitement of a big city and making something of themself

the time between the death of their dad and meeting R were some of the worst months of their life
