hello!!! hope you’re having an amazing day/night :3!
could you maybe write one of the ghouls like overdoing it one day then have to take is super easy- like basically bed rest the day after cause it caused a flare up and they get some comfort? if not that’s alright and i hope you have a wonderful rest of your day/night!
i had mountain and dew thoughts, hope its okay
little mountain, cg dew, cg aether, lots of pain and crying, hurt/comfort, use of quintessence
Mountain knew he was overdoing it. Too much weight carrying, bending down, and, in general, just straining his back the whole day. But the spring just fully hit, it got warmer and there was a lot of work to be done in the gardens and greenhouses. And so Mountain was on it, even against his—and his packmates'—better judgment.
By the end of the day he was exhausted and in pain, but he was telling himself that it was still fine. It was just a dull ache all over his back and in his shoulders, he was fine.
Until he wasn’t.
The earth ghoul was just finishing up when he bent down to get one more of the big pots up from the ground and onto the bench when he first heard, then felt a sickening crack. Mountain cried out and crumpled to his knees next to the pot, gripping it tightly and trying to breathe deeply through the pain. It faded rather quickly—it was like an electrical shock went right through his spine—but it didn’t fade completely.
Mountain fought back tears of pain, exhaustion, and anger as he slowly got up. It hurt like hell, but he managed to stand and straighten up. He cursed the damn pot and himself and slowly made his way out of the greenhouse and back to the Abbey. The earth ghoul relied on his nose to not run into anyone, not in a mood for a scolding; it was better to avoid them altogether. It was late anyway.
He skipped the shower—not wanting to risk collapsing in there and actually needing someone to come help—and went straight to bed, downing a few painkillers before shutting his eyes.
It’s the morning now and it's so much worse.
Mountain barely wakes up before the pain slams into him and he drops immediately; and smaller than usually. He starts crying quietly, not really being able to move because it just hurts so much. He doesn’t know what to do so he just grabs his carrot and cries.
Just moments before Dewdrop startles awake to a nagging feeling in his chest. Something’s wrong and as he comes to, he realizes it’s his bond with Mountain that’s pulling him up. He’s out of the door and on the way to the earth ghoul’s before he knows it.
He finds Mountain all small and sobbing into his plushie and his heart breaks. Dewdrop all but runs to him and kneels on the edge of the bed to comfort the little ghoul.
He cries out in pain, though, when the bed dips, and the fire ghoul recoils in shock. “Rosey? What’s wrong, baby, talk to me.”
“M–mama,” he whimpers. “H–hurts, m–m’back. I’s bad.”
“Oh, love.” Dewdrop's heart hurts at the tiny, hurt voice. It must be really bad and the fire ghoul’s protective instincts kick right in. He texts Aether ‘emergency’ and turns to Mountain again, this time slower and more careful. “Alright, rosey, I’ll come under the covers gently, okay?”
“Help, m–mama,” the earth ghoul sobs, “hurts.”
“I know, baby, I know.” Dewdrop peels the comforter off of him and lays next to him as carefully as he can. He still jostles Mountain a little bit and he truly hates himself for it.
He kicks up his heat and hopes he’s close enough that it can seep into the earth ghoul’s body and hopefully relieve the pain as much as possible before Aether gets there with meds and quintessence.
Mountain is still crying, though, and Dewdrop hates his little sobs, hitching breaths, and shaking body—still in pain. He despises it.
“Cuddle, mama, please,” he hiccups and the fire ghoul wouldn’t be able to deny him anything even if he wanted to. He gently shuffles closer until his chest touches Mountain’s back and the little ghoul flinches at first contact, but relaxes a little when Dewdrop warms him up.
“There we go, baby,” he whispers as his hands land on Mountain’s little tummy. “Aeth will be here soon, alright?”
“Mhm.” Dewdrop hates that he can’t do much more for him but keep him close and warm and wipe his tears. His brows furrow when the earth ghoul speaks again, “‘m sorry, mama.”
“What for?”
“I–I was workin’ lot and–and–and i’s my fault ‘m hurt,” he sobs and tries to curl into himself more in shame, but he only flinches and cries harder.
“Mounty, hey, listen to me. Listen to me, baby, it’s okay. You’re okay, there’s nothing to apologize for. Nobody’s mad at you, I’m not mad at you–”
“Hey, what’s wrong?” Aether interrupts him, opening the door. Dewdrop’s definitely grateful for the distraction, Mountain’s not in the right state to be having serious talks with. “Aw, sapling, what happened?”
“Don’ wanna–I don’ wanna say,” the little ghoul whimpers and Dewdrop wipes his tears again.
“That’s alright, love.” Aether comes closer. “Just tell me what hurts, alright? That’s all I need from you.”
“I’s my back.”
“Thank you, sapling.” The quintessence ghoul smiles at him softly. “You’ll feel better soon. Do you want to go back to sleep, too?”
“‘eep, please, Aeth.” He looks at him with big, sad eyes and Aether nods. He sits on the edge of the bed and puts a hand over Mountain’s forehead and he’s back asleep in a flash.
Dewdrop sighs with relief, “Thank you. He hurts so bad and his little sobs…nearly started crying myself.”
“Yeah, I gotcha,” Aether chuckles, but there’s a furrow in his brows as he lets his quintessence go into Mountain’s nerves to look for the issue. “It’s bad, he really overdid it this time.”
“Lucifer…Well, we’ll have to have another talk soon. For now do what you can and we’ll let him sleep.”

Little ghoul
Little Aether babysitter Dewdrop
Aether was sprawled across his bed, the dormitory a mess. He had a new fang coming in. Typically, ghouls had new fangs come in every few decades to accommodate for any damaged or dulled teeth, but, little aether had one of his teeth knocked out. Dewdrop didn’t mean to injure the guitarist but ghouls, being naturally curious & feisty creatures, tripped while exploring the other ghoul on stage, sending the guitar head straight into the ghoul’s teeth. Aether whined and tossed around in bed, his gums were killing him! He was chewing on everything he could get his hands on, learning the hard way that his fingers weren’t tough enough to not be punctured by his remaining teeth. Pillows, shirt collars, even one of his grucifixes had been chewed apart. The Cardinal, to the sister Imperator’s fury, had even attempted to use whiskey to calm the devil’s aching gums.
His fingers were bleeding once again, he didn’t mind the flavor but it hurt his fingers. He flicked his tail around angrily, almost cat-like, when an idea popped into his little horned head. He hesitantly inspected his leathery tail, running his fingers over its triangular tip. He tentatively took the tail into his mouth, curiously investigating the firm, flat body part in his mouth. For the first time since the fang had begun growing, he was calm. Aether’s soothing was interrupted by a knock on the dormitory door. “Aether? Are you ready for mass?” It was Dewdrop. He had been able to cover for his duties in the archives & in the upkeep of the cathedral but attending mass was required of all ghouls.
Little Aether didn’t even hear the knocking over the bliss of finally having calmed gums. Dewdrop cooed as he opened the door, walking over and petting the creature’s head, earning a purr in response. “Come on, Aeth. It’s time for mass.” Aether, in a mix of pain and the comfort of his tail, wasn’t quite feeling up to sitting through another sermon. He flopped into the larger ghoul’s lap, whining softly. “Do I have a kit in my lap?” Dew asked, playing with Aether’s hair. The kit shyly nodded, not wanting to take his tail out. Dewdrop didn’t typically care for the kit, whether that be literal or mental, but he would still happily care for a ghoul in need.
He got the little kit dressed and walked him to the nave, deciding to sit in the back pews with him. He had coaxed the tail out of his mouth but then couldn’t get him to sit still. “I know it’s uncomfortable but there’s only 10 minutes left! Just sit still for a bit and then you can chew.” Dew whispered. Aether whined quietly, still earning a glare from the being in the pew in front of them.
The little demon managed to sit mostly quietly & somewhat still for the rest of the service. “I’m pretty sure the den is empty. You want me to see if the den mother will let you play in there for a bit?” Dew offered quietly as they left. Aether nodded, fidgeting with his tail.
On their way, Copia placed a hand on Dew’s shoulder. “Cardinal!” Dew exclaimed, perhaps a bit too loudly. “I noticed a certain ghoul was fidgeting quite a bit during the sermon. Is all well?” He asked, looking at the frustrated ghouls. “A certain oversized kit is still teething from his run-in with my guitar.” Dew said, gesturing to the little guitarist.
A look of fake, but lighthearted, surprise spread across the cardinal’s face. “Oh? Is there a little ghoul amongst us?” He asked, feigning curiosity as he tussled the little ghoul’s hair. Aether purred and hugged the man, accidentally poking him with his horns. He pulled away and smiled before placing his tail back into his mouth. “Thank you, little one.” Copia said before having a boring but quick conversation with the mentally older ghoul.
Dewdrop was interrupted by a tug on his belt. He looked down to find the outstretched claws of a ghoul attempting to climb onto him. He scooped the little creature up, bouncing him lightly as he finished the conversation. “I’ll see you tomorrow night!” He excitedly said.
Aether happily sat in the fire ghoul’s arms, playing with his shirt, until he was so rudely interrupted by Dew shifting him. He was now looking at the cardinal; he quickly hid his face in the other ghoul’s neck, suddenly feeling shy.
Dewdrop nudged him to get his attention. “Can you say goodbye to Copia, sweetie?” The little demon quickly peeked out, receiving a little wave & warm smile on the man’s face. He shyly smiled, tail still in his mouth, and waved back before returning to his hiding place. The man chuckled as he walked off to speak with other clergymen.
After a conversation with the den mother, the ghouls were given permission to use the den. Aether happily played as he chomped his tail, Dew watching him from a rocking chair in the corner. The little ghoul tugged his caretaker’s pant leg and held up a story book. The carer pulled the ghoulie into his lap and cracked open the book. “Once upon a time…”

Hiii!! Do you think you could write some more little Rain with crutches? Maybe they’re upset that they have to use them and get some comfort? I’ve been having to use crutches a lot lately and it’s nice to see it represented cause I get self conscious about it
If not that’s okay!! I hope you have a wonderful day <333
little rainy (she/her), cg dewdrop, negative self talk about a disability, hurt/comfort, fluff, cuddles
Rain—especially when little—had a specific tendency. When she was upset at something, she wouldn’t go straight to crying. First there was a stubborn stage, where she’d sit with her arms crossed over her chest and an angry pout—trying to act all brave and unbothered. She only needed one little thing for that facade to break, though, one soft word spoken in her direction.
That day she woke up after a not-so-great night, all achy and tired. She dropped soon after breakfast and sulked her way through most of the day with her crutches, huffing and puffing at everything. When Dewdrop found her, she was in the common room, sitting in the corner of their couch with her crutches thrown carelessly on the floor. She was pouting and her arms were crossed over her chest.
“What’s up, angelfish?” Dewdrop asked, sitting down next to her.
“I don’ like it,” Rain mumbled as she avoided looking at the fire ghoul. “So ‘m sittin’ here and not doin’ anyfing.”
“Well, that’s certainly one way to go about it. What angered you so much, my little lady?” He kept his voice neutral, positive, with a slightly playful tone. He was a professional at this point, when it came to dealing with Rain’s ups and downs.
“My legs!” she huffed. “I sleeped bad an’ now they hurt and i’s all annoyin’ ‘cause crutches’r stupid.”
“Why? I think they rock.” The fire ghoul shrugged, scooting in closer to the little ghoulette.
“They don’.” Rain was still defensive and acting unbothered about it, but it was clearly a deeper issue. Dewdrop never once failed at seeing right through her and he knew this specific topic all too well by now. Rain’s doubts about her mobility aids and her disability in general was something that came up a lot. “They mean ‘m broken.”
The fire ghoul sighed. If she dropped the forbidden b-word already, she must’ve been in her head really bad.
“Rainy,” Dewdrop said, this time all soft and knowing, “you know I don’t like when you use that word to talk about yourself.”
“‘m sorry, but i’s true!” Rain pouted some more but her mask was cracking. Dewdrop moved even closer to catch her when she’d break. “I’s bad.”
“Come here, little lady.” The fire ghoul opened his arms, resting against the back of the couch. “We can talk about it later, I feel like right now you need some cuddles. Don’t you?”
“I like cuddles…”
“Yeah, you do.” Dewdrop smiled softly, encouragingly. “Come on.”
Rain’s angry pout turned into something more hurt and she fell into the fire ghoul’s arms, crawling into his lap and resting against his chest. He wrapped his arms around her and kicked up a low, soothing purr. “You are not broken, Rainy. Nobody will ever think that. We all love you. And you know what?”
“W–what?” she asked shyly, with her face pressed into Dewdrop’s neck.
“I love you the most, my little lady,” he replied whispering, as if it was a big secret. It succeeded in making the little ghoulette smile though—giggle even—as she snuggled herself further into Dewdrop’s embrace
“I love you t’ most, too, Dewy.”

pet regressing and shape-shifting ghouls had taken over my brain and i had to scribble something little. have some otter rainy!
(tag for @sphylor as promised :3)
Dewdrop haven't seen Rain much that day, busy with chores that piled had up. He promised him earlier that they’d spend a nice, peaceful evening together, relaxing after the long day.
When Dewdrop is finishing up his work he sends a few texts to Rain, informing him of the fact and asking where they should meet and if there was anything specific he’d like to do.
No answer comes, though. Dewdrop shrugs, it means nothing. Rain probably busied himself with something or his phone simply died. It happens quite often.
Soon enough his chores are finished and he makes his way back to the den. He checks Rain’s room first, but it’s empty and there’s no fresh scent that would indicate he was in there recently. Dewdrop leaves and goes to his own room, hoping to find his mate there.
He opens the door and it does smell like Rain is in there—fresh smell of petrichor hanging in the air—but he can’t see him anywhere. The fire ghoul looks around and notices a pile of clothes (definitely not his own) at the top of his bed, by his pillows. Dewdrop furrows his brows.
“Rainy?” he calls out.
A little squeak reaches his ears and the pile of clothes moves slightly. Dewdrop sighs—realizing—but not in disappointment. He only hopes nothing bad had happened that would make Rain regress.
The fire ghoul closes the door and walks to the bed, crawling up onto it. Rain must feel him, because as soon as Dewdrop settles against the headboard, the pile moves again and the head of a little otter pokes out, squeaking. “Well, hello, little thing.”
Rain squeaks again, but doesn’t move to crawl into Dewdrop’s lap. That’s unusual, so the fire ghoul reaches for the hoodie and peaks inside.
“Awww,” he coos quietly, smiling. Rain must’ve grabbed his axolotl plushie when he was still in his big ghoul body and put it under his hoodie, because now the little otter is cuddled around the small, pink stuffie, refusing to let it go. “Come here, baby.”
Rain squeaks some more—happily—as Dewdrop picks him up. The fire ghoul scoots down to lay, more than sit, and puts the little otter on his chest. Rain wiggles until he ends up on his back, sprawled out with the axolotl plushie still clutched tightly in his little paws.
Dewdrop giggles, never able to help himself when Rain is like this. He is happy and content so the fire ghoul doesn’t worry. If something bad caused him to drop they’d talk about it later. For now the little otter needs entertainment, and Dewdrop is happy to provide.
He puts a hand under Rain’s chin and starts scratching. The little otter immediately starts squeaking louder, making all kinds of happy noises and pushing further into Dewdrop’s touch. “I’ve got you, little thing.”
For a while it’s just like that—the fire ghoul petting Rain and him enjoying it, glued to Dewdrop’s plushie. He doesn’t know what changes but at some point Rain wiggles again and turns to his front. He stares at the other intently, squeaking some more.
“Whaddya need?” Dewdrop asks, but he—of course—doesn’t get a proper answer. Only some more squeaks. “Hm, what about your marbles? Do you want to play? Maybe a snack?”
Rain’s next squeak sounds more like a grumble, so Dewdrop supposes he doesn’t want any of those options. He thinks for a moment, but the otter seems to get impatient. He squirms and wiggles up until he’s nestled just under Dewdrop’s chin, basically on his neck, and reaches out with his little paw. He puts it on the fire ghoul’s lips and the other one ends up in his own mouth.
Dewdrop is confused for a moment, but then he remembers otter customs.
“Oh, you want us to take a nap!” he laughs and Rain squeaks approvingly. “Alright, alright, little thing, we can take a nap.”
The fire ghoul pulls up a blanket and gets himself settled, holding onto a wiggling Rain. Even once Dewdrop stops moving, Rain doesn’t—obviously displeased with his current position. Thankfully Dewdrop has had enough practice with the water ghoul regressed like this to know what it is that the little otter, most likely, wants.
He pulls the axolotl plushie from his paws and Rain does not like it, at first, but the fire ghoul shoves it under his shirt and Rain immediately follows, squirming his way into it through Dewdrop’s collar. The sleek fur scratches his skin as Rain curls around the stuffie again and settles properly on Dewdrop’s chest.
“Comfy?” he asks and Rain’s little face peeks out from the collar of his shirt. He squeaks happily, voicing his contentment. Dewdrop scratches at the top of his head and the little otter’s eyes close. His whiskers tickle Dewdrop a bit, but he’d never complain. He adores Rain more than anything; big or small, otter or ghoul. He sighs, smiling, “You are the cutest little thing, you know that?”
Rain squeaks again. He does know it.

a little nervous cause I've never asked before but have you written about any of the ghouls feeling little when they're sick?
like a head cold or allergies (now that spring its here!)
i did write things roughly like that a few times, for example here, here, and here if you wanna check them out, but i scribbled something new for you
500 words, little phantom (they/them) and cg dew, allergy
Phantom has been sneezing for two days straight non-stop. It was maddening in the most negative way possible. He felt like he could and would cry, eyes stinging and burning, and he was going crazy, upset and overstimulated with it all.
After dinner—that he absolutely didn’t have an appetite for and that was only a series of sneezes—he holed himself up in his room, comforter up to his nose at first, but then he had to lower it to be able to breathe. He was so tired of it, he felt his mind slipping and they found themself reaching for their favorite plushie and clutching it tight to their chest.
Phantom closed their eyes, hoping sleep would take them without fuss and let them take a nap, but after what felt like hours of waiting, it didn’t come. They whined loudly and curled into an even tighter ball than they already were after another sneeze shook their body.
They heard their door opening, and if not their stuffy nose they’d recognize by the smell alone it was Dewdrop who entered their space. “Ant? You alright?”
The quintessence ghoul whimpered and opened their eyes. Dewdrop noticed immediately that they had dropped and he came over to sit at the edge of the bed. “What’s wrong, batling?”
“‘ve been s– sneezin’ all the time and ‘m t–tired, mama,” Phantom whined.
“Oh, my poor baby,” the fire ghoul put a hand on their head, gently scratching at their scalp in hopes of soothing the little ghoul a bit. “We’ve got ourselves a new ghoulie allergic to pollen, haven’t we?”
“Was’a lergic?”
“When spring is coming flowers have those silly powders,” Dewdrop started explaining as he was settling himself against the headboard and inviting Phantom to lay against his chest. “You can ask Mountain, he’ll tell you all about it. Those powders make some ghouls and humans feel bad, like sneezing and hurting eyes.”
“I h– have that,” the quintessence ghoul mumbled, offended.
“Yeah, turns out you do,” Dewdrop patted their head. “But don’t worry, there’s medicine. Aether will take care of it, alright, batling?”
“Okay, m– mama.”
“In the meantime,” the fire ghoul wrapped a hand around Phantom’s shoulders and scooted both of them down, laying properly in the fluffy nest. “You need a nap.”
“Mhm… ‘m tired.” The little ghoul snuggled themself into the other’s chest and kicked up a purr. Well, at least they tried because it soon got interrupted by another sneeze. “Ouch.”
“Oh, I’m sorry, batling,” Dewdrop cooed and hugged them tighter. “I’ll text Aether right away.”
“Mhm,” they hummed. The fire ghoul put a warm hand on their back hoping it would help at least a little bit. Phantom didn’t try to purr again, but their contentement was obvious to Dewdrop. Just as he promised, he texted Aether and when the quintessence ghoul let him know he’d prepare the meds, Dewdrop turned his phone off and cuddled around the little ghoul in his arms and closed his eyes, too.

ao3 request for tiny rain! i dont usually write her that small so its a short one, i had a bit of an issue with picturing her that tiny
also my brain is like dew's today so I'm sorry for the jumble this is
585 words, starts with a nightmare but turns out alright, tiny rain (she/her as usual), cg dewdrop, cg swiss
It’s rare that Rain drops so far down. Usually it’s because of an injury, exhaustion or a nightmare. This time it was the last one that was the cause, sending the ghoul spiraling down in the middle of the night. Dewdrop was there, thankfully, awake the second he felt Rain’s body shake.
He jumped to turn the light on first, then curled himself around Rain and kicked up his body temperature so that the sensation of being engulfed in warmth and Dewdrop’s scent would reach the water ghoul’s mind wherever it was lost.
It took a few exhausting hours to calm Rain down enough so that they could both go back to sleep. It always did, the nightmares hit the ghoul hard every time.
But that had been at night. It was nearing midday when Dewdrop emerged from his bedroom holding Rain close to his chest. She wasn’t happy and giggly, but she wasn’t panicking and crying either. It was good. The fire ghoul wasn’t sure how he was planning on not falling asleep while taking care of her that day, but he was glad she was calm, the nightmare hopefully forgotten.
They came across Swiss in the common room, lounging lazily on the couch while scrolling on his phone absentmindedly. Dewdrop mumbled his greetings, getting cut off by a yawn.
“Woah, kitten, have you even slept?”
“Not really,” he sighed. “Little lady had a nightmare.”
“Oh, my poor princess,” Swiss pouted, reaching out to pull Rain onto his lap. “So tired, you must be, hm?”
Rain only grumbled as Dewdrop placed her in the multi ghoul’s arms but it quickly turned into a happy squeak when he wrapped his arms all around her. “There we go, always comfy with me.”
Dewdrop rolled his eyes but was eternally grateful to Swiss for taking Rain at least for a moment. That way he could focus on making breakfast only without having to divide the energy of his tired brain into paying attention to multiple things at once.
He didn’t even try to go for anything fancy, toast for himself and warm sweet milk for Rain. Yawning again he returned to the common room, smiling as he saw Rain giggling as Swiss pretended to dramatically fall asleep and snore every few moments, then acting out a startled waking up. Leave it to Swiss to cheer everyone up in every possible scenario.
Dewdrop plopped himself down next to the two and handed Swiss Rain’s bottle as he munched on his own toast.
“Get that belly nice and full, yeah, princess?” the multi ghoul talked to her. “Then, a nap. Both of you.”
Dewdrop didn’t plan on arguing, if he was being honest. When he finished the toast Swiss handed Rain—who wasn’t complaining—back to him and left to bring them a blanket and Rain’s plushie.
The fire ghoul kicked up a purr as Rain pressed her ear to his chest and closed her eyes with a sigh, fingers clutching the hem of his shirt. He himself couldn’t find the heaviness of his eyelids anymore and let them fall shut as he held Rain closed, “My lovely little lady.”
When Swiss came back they were already asleep, the water ghoul sprawled on top of Dewdrop, both snoring quietly. Swiss couldn’t help but take a picture before wrapping them up in the blanket he brough, tucking the shark plushie next to them and leaving, putting a note on the door of the common room, warning others about the sleeping ghouls.

I have a fic request: imagine dew finding mountain outside in the cold, sobbing and trying to hug all his potted plants close to himself and having little holes and started from the thorned plants all on his chest and arms
If this makes you uncomfy you don't have to do anything!!
hi! it was okay for me to write, it didn't make me uncomfy so dw, but oh my poor earth boy :(
also, an ask I answered earlier today made me think about ghouls mixing up mama and papa and dew being called mama, so I threw some of that into this ficlet. @sphylor you may be interested :)
1045 words, little mostly non-verbal mountain, cg mama dew, what it says in the ask, mountain is sad about his plants, there's crying, he also hurt himself a bit but there's a happy, cuddly ending
“Hey, did Mountain come?” Dewdrop shouted from the kitchen. He was finishing up cooking the dinner, the call was ten minutes ago and everyone was already seated by the table. Everyone but Mountain.
“Nope,” Swiss answered.
“Well,” the fire ghoul stepped out into the common room dressed in a pink apron, pot full of potatoes in one hand, a plastic spoon in the other, “has anyone seen him at all today?”
All the ghouls murmured something to each other, trying to figure out who was the last one to have seen Mountain. At some point Phantom spoke up, “I think I saw him going outside earlier but that was hours ago.”
Dewdrop thought for a moment. It was snowing, way too cold for the earth ghoul to wander outside, why would he… “Oh, no.”
He all but dropped the potatoes onto the table, murmuring something along the lines of ‘sauce is in the kitchen, eat’ before throwing the apron off and rushing out of the room. He ran straight outside, flip flops on his feet, and in the direction of Mountain’s main greenhouse. Dewdrop bursted inside, but the earth ghoul was nowhere to be seen. Stressed out of his mind Dew stepped outside once again. Snow was hitting his skin but it was melting right away. “Mounty? Rosey?”
Dewdrop’s ears twitched when he heard a sniffle and a whine from behind the greenhouse. He rushed to round the corner and then to Mountain’s side when he saw him. The earth ghoul was curled on the ground, his clothes wet from the snow. He was shivering and crying, he had his arms around a few potted plants in his lap, a few more laying next to him.
“Oh, Rosey,” Dewdrop immediately wrapped himself around Mountain as much as he could, pushing his warmth into the freezing ghoul. “Why did you come out here all alone? It's so cold, baby.”
Mountain lifted his head slightly with a pained little whimper and looked at Dew with big, teary eyes before shaking his head.
“No words?” the fire ghoul asked. Mountain nodded. “That’s okay, no need to speak, just give me nods and shakes of your head, alright, Rosey?”
Mountain nodded again and Dewdrop forced himself to smile a bit, even though his heart ached for the poor earth ghoul. “I’ve got you now, I need to take you back inside, baby. It’s way too cold for you out here.”
The little ghoul whined and tried to tighten his hold on his plants. That made him wince, as if in pain, and Dewdrop didn’t miss it. “What is it, are you hurt? I know, Rosey, but I need to see.”
The fire ghoul first uncurled himself from around Mountain, then tried to look him over. He sighed sadly when he noticed the issue. Some of the plants the ghoul was hugging to his chest had thorns, and he gripped them so hard he made little holes in his shirt and had them digging into his skin and scratching it.
“Mounty, I need you to listen to me for a second, okay? I know you are very sad about your plants, I would be sad too, but right now, we need to take care of you, alright? I have an offer, can you listen to me?” Dewdrop waited for an affirming nod, knowing Mountain had a tendency to tune out what was happening around when he was panicking.
He nodded. “Alright, baby. What about we get you up, go put all your plants into the greenhouse, so you can take care of them when you feel better, and then I’ll take you inside?”
Mountain seemed to be thinking the proposition over, not entirely willing to leave his plants, but knowing Dewdrop knows better and he should listen to him. Soon enough, he nodded shakily and let the fire ghoul unwrap him, careful of the thorns still way too close to Mountain’s skin for Dew’s liking.
“Come on up then, baby, can you stand?” the fire ghoul asked and waited patiently for Mountain to stand up. As soon as he did, Dewdrop opened his arms for him to fall into. Dew wanted to warm him up a bit before they’d do anything else, he was so, so cold.
“Time to go, Rosey,” Dewdrop said after a few moments. The earth ghoul whined but pulled away, rubbing at his teary eyes with his fist. He must’ve been exhausted, too. “Okay, now we act quickly and go, okay? Let’s put your plants into the wheelbarrow, I’ll melt the snow.”
Dewdrop did exactly that. He quickly melted the snow inside the barrow, dumped the water out and within a few minutes all the sad plants were loaded and ready to move inside the greenhouse. Mountain was visibly feeling a bit better by the time they closed the doors and Dewdrop gave him a hand to hold as they walked back to the Abbey.
Back inside the fire ghoul made Mountain, who was getting very sleepy, get rid of the cold, wet clothes. Dewdrop looked him over, ultimately deciding he didn’t need Aether’s help with the tiny, thorn-caused injuries. Soon enough, Mountain was dressed in his favorite onesie that Cumulus made for him, with a soother in between his lips as he snuggled as close to Dewdrop as he could.
“Are you feeling alright now, Rosey?” the fire ghoul asked, running warm hands up and down Mountain’s body.
“Mhm,” he spat the soother out, “mama…”
Mountain froze and immediately curled away from Dewdrop, embarrassment washing over him, even though the fire ghoul didn’t react in any way. Inside he did feel a pang of shock. Usually he was ‘papa’, but Mountain had a thing with mixing up words when small, especially as tired as he was. Dewdrop thought he shouldn’t like it, that dysphoria should've reared it ugly head but… it didn’t. He liked it, he liked being that to Mountain.
“It’s okay, baby,” the fire ghoul assured, kissing the top of his head, “I can be your mama. It’s alright.”
Mountain looked up at him shyly, searching for signs Dew was lying. He found none, and relaxed again as Dewdrop guided the soother back into his mouth. He was asleep in a flash.
