(I just read Anastasia’s bio, and I’ve just got to say that she’s so cool!! To make her a mermaid with teeth that regrow like a great white shark is such a quirky character design. 💖💖💖
I’ve seen a lot of your art reblogged on @sugarandmelody ‘s blog, and I’ve just got to say I love your style! The one where she’s in her merform with idea is *chef’s kiss*)
Since Anastasia’s in Octavinelle, do you mind if I ask what she’d think of my honorary-Octavinelle OC Ceridwen?
Thanks, I'm so happy that you like her! thankful that @thecurrator thought of it as a crack headcanon, and I thought, 'wait a minute... a bunch of sharks can do that...' and went ahead and made it a thing 😂 (*punches ana and knocks her teeth out* Ana two weeks later: you thought you could ruin my image permanently? *flashes a smile* I'M GONNA BITE YOU-)
Awww thanks that you think my art style is nice 👉👈 fsahfshsahsjhhj 💖 not sure which one you mean- if you mean the fully colored one that was made by the lovely @/sras-is-doing-something as fanart <3
hmm, let's see what she'd think of Ceridwen 😳
Anastasia would be quite curious about this new person. She could see her from a distance; she can't help but notice some of the things she does,
'what is she doing with those mirrors?'
Ana will pretty much be too shy to approach her or ask her where she's from. So she can't really cure that curiosity, she might end up accidentally stalking her if she somehow happens to be nearby, whoops!
she's curious, that's all, I swear! >.< "
~~
During her housewarden's overblot, she was horrified but fascinated...
Then
she saw that new person again, holding the mirrors.
'She's... She's using them to deflect the attacks?!'
now Ana's really interested
for a second there she forgot that Azul was overblotting, instead she focuses on the ingenious use of the mirrors, wondering why she's never thought of something like that before.
TBH it's easy to catch Ana's attention if she finds you smart.
Even if you aren't or are very different, yet you end up being friends with her, there'll still be a new perspective she'll want to learn about.
She might still have trouble trying to approach her, but at least now she has a newfound respect for her. Kinda glad that the new person wants to be an honorary Octavinelle member, she doesn't know why.

Ceridwen: *squeals and clasps your hand* This is simply too sweet! For you to make me of all people your muse is such a compliment. God bless your soul, my Angel. Grim is going to be so jealous!

Savannah Fair Story Part 2
This came out long, but it was worth it! Enjoy some chaos!
The town was a buzz with fair preparations. The car went slowly as people crossed the road randomly. Some villagers waved into the windows of the vehicle who recognized the owner. The car kept going until it pulled down a long, thin driveway. A bunch of various vehicles were already parked in the fields leading up.
Furo leaned forward to put their head up front with their siblings. “Who else is here?”
“Basically, the entire clan,” Vormel answered. “Uncle Skips’ side and Aunt Kiki are the only ones not coming. Everyone else is here already.”
“Even the youngins?” Furo raised an eyebrow.
“Especially the youngins,” Nilgiri nodded.
Furo sat back with a soft plop. Vormel parked, and everyone disembarked with their luggage. Before the group could make it to the door, a middle-aged lady with skin as golden as the savannah sun and hair a dark, red-brown mass of curls came bouncing out towards them. “MY BABY’S HOME!”
“Hi Ma-Agh!” Furo’s sentence was truncated by the bone crushing hug of their mother.
“And you all must be Mustela’s friends!” the woman turned to the rest of them, not letting go of their youngest child. “Thank you all for coming!”
“Thank you for inviting us, Ma’am,” Thais greeted the kind lady.
“Miss Melli is fine hun. Now, let me see if I can put names to faces...” Miss Melli put Furo down and stood in front of the group and gazed across them. “You must be Thais, and the other goat beastman is Slyvan?”
“Yes, that’s me,” Slyvan nodded.
She continued, “The one with two-toned hair is...Anastasia? And the girl next to her is Ceridian?”
“Ceridwen,” she corrected.
“Oh, I’m sorry. Ceridwen,” Furo’s mothermade a mental note. “The naga must be Basil. Next to him is Blake, right?”
“You got it!” Blake nodded with a big smile.
“A pleassure to meet you, Missss Mellie,” Basil nodded his head.
“Then there are the fae children! I’d recognize Rozalie with those red tresses, and then Aurora! Nice to finally meet you!”
“I guess Furo talked about us a lot, huh,” Aurora chuckled.
“My hair seems to be my distinctive trait,” Rozalie surmized. “If it makes it easier for you to recall my name, then I am glad.”
“And you must be the freshman that Mustela took in!” Miss Mellie said as she walked up to Pip. “Now what was it? Chip?”
“My name is Pip, Mrs. Furo! Pip Suit!” Pip enthusiastically held out her hand to shake Miss Mellie’s
“Pip! At least I got it to rhyme! I’ll get it soon,” she laughed. “Now come, come all of you. Everyone is waiting to say hi.”
She ushered all the children into the house. As soon as they all entered, the loud chatter of multiple people and the smell of cooking food flooded their senses. When the new arrivals entered, a cacophony of greetings came their way. The adults were majority human, with a few beastfolk mixed in. Scattered amongst them were kids around the same age as the NRC students. The children had more hybrids. Some had beastfolk characteristics and there were a couple of half-fae there too. Furo’s mom opened a door with a staricase leading down and yelled, “Mustela and their friends are here!!”
As quickly as the family rushed to greet them, they returned to chattering amongst themselves. Furo smiled nervously, talking slightly louder to be heard over their family, “Welcome to the Furo-Ictonyx clan!”
“Mustel!” a voice came from the side of them. A girl with honey-gold hair a few inches taller than Furo came over and hugged them with all their strength. “So long, no see Cus’!”
“Hiya Stria!” Furo hugged them back.
“So, all these folks go to NRC with ya?” she motioned towards the group that herded together. She got a mischievous gleam in her eyes, “So which one of you is rich? Or royalty? Or-”
“Stria no!” Furo punched their cousin’s arm.
“You go to a private school for mages! Prince Leona goes to the same school! Network!”
“You go away now. Shoo, shoo!” Furo pushed their cousin away. They sighed and turned to their friends, “Sorry about that. Stria is determined to marry rich.”
“I give her credit for gumption,” Ceridwen said.
“MUMU!” A choir of small children cheered. Five small children tackled Furo to the ground with a loud crash. The NRC group winced simultaneously.
Multiple older women yelled across the room, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”
“NOTHING~!” Every child and teenager responded in unison. The five children got off of Furo and helped them up. Furo sat on the ground and readjusted their glasses. They looked unfazed at the whole ordeal. One of the smaller children sat in their lap. They had a smooth tail that they wrapped around Furo’s wrist, but human ears.
“Mumu! Turn into an elephant!”
“No, no! Turn into a pretty okapi!”
“Can you blast a whole in a mountain yet?!”
“Haha not yet. And no animals in the house,” Furo gently declined their pleas.
As Furo’s attention was occupied, their friends were left standing there.
“No wonder Furo can deal with my nonsense,” Aurora was impressed as all the stimulus surrounded them.
“I- There is so much happening right now,” Blake took in a deep breath.
“Yeah, you get used to it after a few years,” a deep, monotone voice came from behind them.
The group turned around to see an older gentleman, the same height as Basil. He had dark skin like Furo, but pale green eyes that glared down at them. His head was shaved bald, but he had a short goatee of curly black hair connected to a mustache. He didn’t smile, and his stature was firm. He gave the impression of being able to pick up and throw the long naga yards away if he breathed wrong. The group members went wide eyed as they took a step back. A few visibly becoming frightened. Pip and Thais being two who gave out a muffled squeak, while Anastasia and Blake gulped and took a few steps back.
When did he approach? Was the collective thought. While it was loud, it was still quiet enough to hear everybody scurrying around and make note of everyone’s pressence. This man just seemed to appear out of nowhere.
“Daddy, what did we say about you sneaking up on people?” Furo questioned like a disappointed parent.
“I didn’t sneak. I made a bunch of news when I came up from the basement with the kids,” he defended himself.
“I know I heard you, but people outside of the family aren’t used to your lack of volume,” Furo came back at him. “This is why your students are afraid of you.”
“Students aren’t afraid of me,” he denied.
Furo looked at him with a raised eyebrow. The kids that had crowded them now rushed their father with pure joy. “Uncle Gulo! Juggle! Juggle!” they all chanted and squeeled. They grabbed random tiny objects, from pens to dolls to building blocks, and shoved it into his hands.
He finally smiled a big goofy smile as he obliged them. “Alrighty, but let’s move to the couch!” He waddled over to the large piece of furniture as the five children wove around his legs. He sat down and started juggling the objects like he was a clown, putting a bit of flare in every once in awhile. The kids watched enthralled until they all screamed, trying to scare him. Furo’s dad gave an eagerated play of being frightened and messing up the juggling skit, punctuating the objects hitting him with cartoon-like sound effects. The kids laughed and clapped at the show.
The group relaxed at seeing the display. Aurora brought up in a teasing tone, “So...Mumu, huh?”
“If you call me that at school I will turn into an elephant and smack you with my trunk,” Furo quickly shot them down.
Furo’s mom reentered the room. She asked the teens, “So what do you think about the savannah so far?”
“Beautiful!” Pip quickly answered.
“Sssoothing,” Basil added.
“Peaceful,” Aurora nodded.
“Hot,” everyone else said.
“Oh yeah! That’s right!” Furo sprung up. “Mama, do we have any light clothes they can change into?”
“We have some spare outfits that the family is going to wear while working the events. They can change into that,” she offered, looking the kids over. “If the ones with long hair want, Poechi and I can do their hair in some more breathable styles.”
“Really?!” Furo got excited.
“Yeah, hold up a second,” Miss Melli yelled into what seemed to be the kitchen. Poechi! Are you free to braid some hair?!”
“Sure, Aunt Mellivora! Let me wash my hands real quick!” A voice called back. After the sound of rushing water came to an end, a lady that seemed to be only a few years older than Furo’s sister sauntered out. She had curves and a style that screamed sass. Her hair was up in a mess of box braids wrapped in a bun. “Stel! How’s it going, hun? Do I get to play with your beautiful mass of curls today?”
“Hi Poechi! Not mine, yet. My friends could use it though,” Furo stepped aside.
Poechi came closer and examined everyone’s head. Her sights landed on Basil and Rozalie. She beckoned them closer. “Come here boys. Don’t worry, I won’t bite. I would just like to touch your hair, if that’s cool.”
“Uh, okay?” Basil slithered closer. Rozalie also stepped forward. Poechi ran her fingers lightly through their hair, examining it.
“Dang, you guys have really nice hair!” she exclaimed. “I can give you some nice box braids, or even cornrow your hair if you want.”
“Is that...alright? I would feel bad about donning your people’s aesthetic culture when I know so little about it,” Rozalie voiced.
“While yes, if you just ignore the history it has that would be rude to do, but we can share with you the stories and meanings behind each one as we go,” Furo’s mom chimed in. “Right now, the key part is that it will help get all that hair off your neck and let your skin breath a bit more.”
“That does sound pleasant,” Rozalie nodded.
“Um, can hear the stories too?” Blake asked. “My hair is probably too short to braid, but I would love to hear any folktales that you all have.”
“Oh my gosh, of course! Everyone is allowed to sit and join in,” Poechi cooed. “Doing each other’s hair is our bonding time as a family. You are always allowed to gather and yap while we do it!”
“Mustela, can you go get the hair basket?” Furo’s mother asked.
“Yes, Mama,” Furo agreed and went down the hall.
Meanwhile, the smallest child that had been watching Furo’s dad juggle wondered over to Thais and Slyvan. He also had a pair of horns starting to bud out of his head. He didn’t say anything, but reached up and made grabby hands towards her finger. “Aww, do you want to hold my hand?” Thais cooed as she met him halfway. The child still didn’t say anything, but started to yank her arm down so that she sat on the ground. He then repeated the act to Slyvan.
When both students were sat on the ground, the toddler put his hands out and muttered, “Wait.” He then hobbled off to what could be assumed was his mother and father asking for something. When he made his way back, he had a container filled with beads and string dragging behind him. He plopped it on the ground in the middle of them. By now, two more boys that looked only a bit older than the boy came by. They also had tiny horns sprouting from their head that were decorated with beading. Their father could also be seen wearing beaded accessories on his horns.
“That’s Jax, he’s my youngest brother,” The tallest one explained. “My name’s Bo. This is Vyro.”
“Hiya!”
“Hello,” Thais and Slyvan greeted.
“Can we put beads on you horns?” Vyro asked.
“I’d love to have beads!” Thais said.
“Me too! Make us look wonderful!” Slyvan gave them permission. All three boys smiled wide as they dove into the bead container.
When Furo came back and handed the baskets filled with hairstyling supplies to their mother, everyone was getting attended to. Some were getting their hair braided while others were having accessories placed on them. When one was finished at one makeshift station, they’d switch another. All the while, stories, gossip, and reminiscing happened. After a few hours, everyone was dolled up in their outfits with matching hairstyles and accessories.
---------------------------------------------------
“Wow! Wow, wow, wow!” Pip repeated as she spun in circles to look at herself. “These outfits are beautiful! It’s like I’m a bird!”
“That’s good, since the outfits are based on the weaver bird,” Miss Melli told them.
“The weaver bird?” Ceridwen asked.
“Oh! I can explain this one!” Furo excitedly jumped about.
“I expect nothing less than a full-on lecture when it comes to telling us about an animal,” Anastasia smiled as she readied herself for the rant.
“The weaver bird is a native song-bird that has yellow plumage all year round. They nest mostly in colonies, but can be single as well. If you hear a bird song while you’re here, it will probably be a weaver! It’s our town’s symbol, especially for the fundraising fair!” Furo started off, with vibrant hand motions. “It comes from the story of how there was once a vain princess that had hair longer than the rivers and smoother than handcrafted silk. She refused to give a single strand of hair to a weaver bird that wanted to use it to line his nest. The bird was actually a magical spirit of nature, and, as punishment for the princess’ selfishness, took her hair and brought drought to the land. Then a beggar boy went out on a quest to return the princess’ hair when the mages and wise scholars could do nothing. Along the way, he showed kindness and generosity to a flower, a colony of ants, and a mother mouse who lost it’s child on a mountain peek. When he reached the top, he found out that all three were the nature spirit in different forms. Now, back as a weaver bird, the spirit gave him the option of picking the fruit of one of three trees. A golden tree that bore fruit of exotic foods, a silver tree that bore fruit of rare gems, or an emerald tree that bore seeds of trees that could grow hair. The boy chose the seed that would grow the hair tree, and brought it back and planted it in the princess’ garden. The princess, now remorseful of what she’d done for her own father could not look at her, found the sprout and tended to it since it was the only thing still growing and wouldn’t care for her beauty or lack there of. From her care, the sprout erupted into a tree and her hair returned with the falling of rain. The beggar married the princess and ever since, generosity has been a staple of the area and the weaver bird was a symbol of such.”
“Gosh,” Aurora breathed out when Furo finally finished. “So that’s why this fair is a pretty big deal? Because of an ancient princess who lost her hair?”
“Yes!” Furo smiled. “The charity the money goes to changes each year, along with the family in charge of putting everything together.”
“This year, our family was chosen,” Furo’s mother took over. “As one of the main clans in the town, it’s only right we do the best we can to raise money.”
“FOOD’S READY!!” a member of Furo’s extended family called from the kitchen.
“Great, I’m starving,” Furo’s dad said as he pretended to run towards the kitchen. “Better get a move on if you want some grub!”
“Gully, you’re so crazy,” Miss Melli giggled. She rolled her eyes as she turned to the kids, “My husband’s a genius, but he’s also an idiot. Time to get a full belly before going working!”

Savanah Fair Story Part 1
“We made it!” Furo stretched as they landed out of the Mirro’s portal. They looked back to see the group of friends that tagged along. There were the three from Heartslabyul - Thais, Blake, and Pip - Aurora, Slyvan, Anastasia, Basil, Ceridwen, and Razalie.
Furo waved their arms to display the scenery. “Welcome to the Afterglow Savannah everybody!” It was bright with the sun beaming down on them. Flat top trees sprinkled across the expansive grasslands. The silhouettes of animals dotted the horizon.
The crowd looked around each other and the surroundings. “It really is a beautiful place. So open and peaceful,” Ana commented as she stared off in the distance.
“I think so too! But I have a quick question, Furo,” Aurora walked forward. “Where’s the fair? Or the town for that matter.” There was a moment’s pause. Nowhere in the horizon was there a smudge of a town.
“Oh, yeah. It’s a bit away from the portal. My siblings are supposed to come get us...” Furo tried to scan the area. “I guess we can wait here till they get here.”
“While we’re waiting, I have something to give you,” Blake took out an envelope and held it out to Furo. “My dad sends his regards and a donation!”
“Oh goodness, thank you! I’ll make sure it gets to my mom!” Furo carefully placed it in their personal bag. They sat in the grass.
“So, your siblings,” Thais sat down beside them. “What are they like?”
“Oh, they’re awesome!” Furo lit up. “My big sis works in the magic department of the capital and my bro is a herbologist by day and a music producer by night!”
“That’s amazing!”
“What about your parents, Furo senpai?” Pip joined them on the ground. “You’ve mentioned they’re teachers, right?”
“Yep! Both teachers! Super smart!” Furo continued. “Just a head up though: my dad isn’t as scary as he may seem.”
“Wh-why is he considered scary?” Slyvan nervously asked. “Is he mean?”
“Not at all!” Furo quickly said. “He’s just...intimidating.”
“He can’t be worse than the twins,” Ceridwen mentioned. Pip shuddered at the mention of the eels. Anastasia nodded in agreement. “I’m sure he’s a sweetheart, like his youngest.”
“Exactly!” Furo smiled. They caught sight of a growing figure quickly approaching. “Oh, that must be them!”
A large vehicle came zooming across the grasslands. It honked an obnoxious rhythm as it came closer. “Yeah...that’s them,” Furo sighed. As the group’s transportation came to a stop in front of them, two taller figures exited. A man came out of the driver’s side had shaved sides and small black locs pulled back in a ponytail. He had lighter skin than Furo with a multitude of moles all over his face and body. He had wide brimmed glasses and small gold earrings.
“Where is my M.P?” he boomed with a large smile.
“V.P.!!” Furo ran up and gave him a hug.
“What? No love for your sis?” a teasing tone came from the other side. A slender female with a plethora of ear piercings and dark, earthy skin came around the car. She had an afro in a sunset hue and light freckles. Her expression was stern, but a small smile was there.
“All the love for you, Giri!” Furo gave her a hug. When they let go, they introduced everyone. “Guys, this is my sister Nilgiri and my brother Vormel. Giri, V.P., these are some of my friends from NRC.”
“Hi M.P.’s friends!” Vormel waved at them.
“Hello,” Nilgiri simply nodded in their direction. “Let’s get you all loaded up and headed into town. V.P., pack up their things.”
“Yes Ma’am,” Vormel gave a slight eyeroll. He nudged Basil as he passed him, “Swear she only brought me to do all the labor.”
“Yes, I did,” Nilgiri gave him a smirk as she crossed her arms.
“I’d be happy to assssist you,” Bassil offered.
“Thanks bro!” V.P. slung an arm over his shoulder and dragged him to work.
“The rest of you, feel free to pile in.” Nilgiri opened the doors so that the students could find a seat.
“Thank you, Furo-senpai’s Big Sis!” Pip chirped.
Everyone started to seat themselves. Furo bounced in place as they watched everyone. They noticed Rozalie being a bit sluggish. “Hey, Rozalie-senpai? You okay?”
“Ah, my apologies Furo. I am happy to be here, but...I do not fare well in the heat,” Rozalie explained. “Or the cold for that matter.”
“Oh!! I forgot that others aren’t use to this weather! I’m sure we can think of a way to cool you off once we get to my house,” Furo began to fret over their senior.
“No need to worry. I’ll be fine,” Rozalie tried to ease their mind. “Let’s just heat out. I believe the others are waiting.”
“Okay, but speak up if you feel faint!” They sat themselves after Rozalie and Basil found their own seat. When Vormel took his place in the driver’s seat, Furo said, “Alright! Off we go!”

Another ask/scenario for the event: (I can already tell I'm going to spam asks to this. I can't wait to see what else you do with our OCs since you got their personalities down solid in Part 1).
Seeing as Basil's got a longer body, and probably wouldn't fit comfortably in Vormel's car with the other event volunteers, would they have him buckled to the roof like a crate of luggage instead? I can just imagine him trying to get a power nap in the midday sun on the way to the venue.
But any bumps in the road make his snake senses go 0-0
Ceridwen would probably have them pull over so she can give Basil her jacket as a cushion before grumbling to herself about how dangerous it is that he's up there, and that he'd better not get her clothes dusty.
Nilgiri looked back at the group of teenagers to do a headcount. When the number didn't come out to what she expected, she asked, "Where's the snake-boy?"
"Basil is on the roof," Ceridwen answered to the point.
"What," Nilgiri looked at her brother with a deadly glare. "V.P.?"
"He said that he didn't want to risk getting a stiff back by curling up to fit since he's so big. The kid said that he'd be fine on the roof basking in the sun," Vormel explained. They hit a bump in the dirt road. A soft thud and a hiss came from above.
"Uh, V.P., I think you should check on him. We've been driving for awhile," Furo suggested as they stared at the roof of the car.
"Vormel Peregusna, in this exact moment you are an idiot," The oldest Furo child declared with the coldest stare.
"Nilgiri Gwatkinsii, you know there are bigger idiots out there."
"You strapped a child to the roof of your car!" Nilgiri growled. "Pull over make sure the kid doesn't have a concussion!"
"We're almost there though," Vormel motioned ahead of them which didn't look any different from the scenery they have been passing.
"Don't make me use my unique magic on you, V.P.," Nilgiri threatened in a commanding voice.
"Okay, okay, I'll stop!" Vormel slowed down and put the car in park. He got out shaking his head and muttering to himself.
"I would like to check on him too," Ceridwen said, getting out of the car. She went out to see Vormel talking to Basil, who looked content in his postion. "You know that's a stupid idea too, right? If you get hurt then it'll be on Furo's family."
"It'sss fine. I'm living the dream up here, Mongoossse dear," Basil smirked at her.
"Ugh," Ceridwen climbed up on the car and handed him her jacket. "So you don't crack your head open when we go over ditches. You better not get this dirty."
With that she climbed back down and reentered the car. "He's fine, we can keep going."

Ceridwen admiring Furo's cousin for wanting to marry rich and get friends in high places is something I have to take my hat off to you for because that is DEF something she would do XD
Ceridwen to Furo's cousin: "You'd be surprised how many aristocrats and wealthy middle class nouveau riches go to NRC. I'm talking Idia Shroud, Malleus Draconia, Kalim Al-Asim. Give me your phone number, girl. Come visit me at the college and I'll get you talking to some of them" *winks*
"You'd really help me out like that?" Stria grinned. She linked arms with Ceridwen and cheered. "My own personal matchmaker! Thanks girl!"
Stria pulled out her phone and exchanged numbers, "I have been trying to get Mustela to introduce me to those fine men with bank accounts bigger than this family, but they always decline. They have the Vil Schoenheit as a dorm leader for Seven's sake!"
Ceridwen was now being guided on a walk around the savannah with Stria's arm hooked around her own. She kept talking about her ideal man and being able to climb up the social ladder. "If I get married to a filthy rich man thanks to you, I will do my best to make sure you live in luxury too girl. If that means setting you up with my future husband's best friend, then I will have to wedding preparations ready!"

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS!! IT ALWAYS BRIGHTENS MY DAY TO SEE HOW MY BABIES WOULD INTERACT WITH OTHER OCS. (Like I’m a mother watching my kids make friends at school). Melanie is such a cool OC, too!
Right-o, it’s my turn *cracks knuckles.*
---
Ceridwen
You’ve got the right idea with Melanie needing to drag Ceridwen away from danger and work. She’s highly sleep-deprived, and even with her mirror gauntlets she’s never in any condition to fight (she pretends the dark circles under her eyes are actually just smudged mascara)...
As a fellow Ramshackle, Ceridwen would look out for Melanie. Even if a dorm leader hasn’t been established, Ceridwen will generally assume the role if it means keeping the Ramshackles on the straight and narrow and protecting them in a school filled with powerful mages and dangerous spells.
Finally, Ceridwen’s over-thinking doesn’t makes her paranoid. All the good and bad outcomes shoot through her brain at the same time. Having someone to offload to about her thoughts would be a relief, regardless of whether Melanie gives her more food for thought and makes her think even deeper. It’s also just nice having a girl to talk to, and one that’s so polite and caring.
 Vane
The poor man would have heard Melanie hit the floor and ran off the first chance he got. What was that noise? Was it a door opening? A box falling over? Had a bear gotten in? He didn’t know and didn’t care. He was gone.
To later on be invited to tea by Melanie was something he declined immediately. Who was this girl? How did he know her? From being in Heartslabyul, Vane had mastered the art of not going to tea parties. First, go into the woods; make dozens of plants grow to be huge; hide in one of them; hope the people looking for him give up quickly.
However, if Vane overheard Melanie defending him from bullies, he’d thank her in his head before continuing on with whatever he was doing. Seeing her later in the hallway might prompt him to nod in greeting, but nothing more.
Basil
Basil has an interest in all the Ramshackle students who come from a different world. They must be so scared and stressed - brilliant for offering spa services and using his UM. Whether it be Melanie, Ceridwen, you name them, he’s had them in his coils and whispered reassurances that he’s there for them.
However, he prefers Melanie to Ceridwen. Just as a snake prefers a Field Mouse to a Mongoose. Whether it be teasing her, asking her to run quick errands for him, and playing the flute to a song from her homeland, he’s just interested to see how far he’ll get with someone like her.
Louise and Grim - Honey Badger and Dwarf Hamster - are playful accessories Basil’s often holding back with his tail while he chats to Melanie. Can’t have pesky eavesdroppers spoiling their conversations. Not only that, but he’d want her to get comfortable looking into his eyes. Anyone with as much energy as her is a goldmine when it comes to his unique magic.
William
(THAT’S SUCH A FUNNY MENTAL IMAGE WITH THE ACORNS!)
If William disturbed Melanie while he was throwing axes, he might not be as polite about the whole ordeal as you may think. “Why’re ye doin’ yer homework under a tree? There be classrooms, bedrooms, and libraries fer all tha’. ‘sides, I come out here v’ry other day teh practice. Did ye ner see the target marked on that there tree trunk yonder?”
He wouldn’t be too rude about it, though. Melanie’s a lady and she certainly wasn’t a threat. He’d offer to take a break while she concentrated on her homework, but advised she do it somewhere quieter.
If the girl was to then learn about Billy’s heritage and future - pertaining to one day becoming the owner of the Harveston lakes - he would shove her off faster than anything. The subject of his fall from grace, regardless of the fact he still has notable status, pains him. Melanie would be intruding if she brought it up in conversation.
Seth
Melanie is a unique case. It’s hard to get inside Seth’s heart - ironic since he has three so it should be easier. However, he will be interested in Melanie’s fashion sense, and that she can make clothes herself.
I can definitely see the pair of them becoming each other’s muses. Seth teaches Melanie all he knows, and vice versa. He’d rave about her to Maestro Pezoni and Moira over the holidays - telling them all about this girl from another world that stumbled into his life broadened his horizons.
Working on a woman with a different body type to Ceridwen would be useful, too. And since he values Melanie so much, he’ll drape her in his softest fabrics and ask her opinion on what he’s doing. I can already see Melanie, Ceridwen and Seth setting up a business. Melanie models, Seth creates, and Ceridwen sells. (Azul: *sees they’re making a lot of money...his footsteps get louder...*)
All in all, the three of them would make a very stylish family.
I've stalked @squidwen's blog long enough to finally make some interactions with Mel and their oc's!!
Ceridwen: Good friends! Melanie would ask Cerid to not refer to her by royal terms as by her standards she's an average student here. She becomes Cerid's helper and by that I means she'll drag Cerid away from potential danger and long work hours to go shopping or learn how to make something. Of course both of them being over-thinkers is definitely going to lead to hijinks (especially if the other first years are involved) but that's normal for them. Them being assistants means they run into each other with tasks so Mel always suggest afterwards they rest with tea and a good book.
Vane: Now Melanie can....tolerate bugs but not insects that are the size of people so her first reaction to Vane would be....... fainting. Not the best first time and she knows that she might have made Vane more worried so she tries to make it up. By setting up a garden outside of the Ramshackle and growing both flowers and crops she would invite Vane to join her. A nice day with a few clouds rolling by, some lemonade and little buds that need tender loving care. If he ever gets picked on she'll rush in to stop them and if he wants company she'll be more than happy to oblige.
Basil: A curious relationship. Basil sees her and thinks of a tiny field mouse, always scurrying around with papers and things, entering classrooms to drop off things all the while getting to her own class with that dwarf hamster and honey badger. Of course this makes her a prime target for a massage but she's so easy to tease. It's too easy for him to sneak up behind her and let out a little hiss near her ear, she jumps and stares bewildered with those blue eyes. Even if she's holding back Louise from swinging at him with his teeny tiny sword. But she's also extremely kind, always making sure he's doing alright and he isn't pulling any sore muscles. She was a bundle of tight nerves just waiting to pop but all she cared about was her friends health. Strange........she could be fun.
William: Fellow first years and while Melanie might not know much about him, she does know that he's known for axe-throwing. She would know. The first time they met she was behind the tree he was chucking mini axes at and the hits were causing acorns to fall all over her. Being a little irritated by getting hit with acorns while she does homework she turns around only to see a giant holding an axe in his hand. She....might have panicked if Will didn't stop her and apologize for not realizing someone was here. After that she would be curious since they're in different classes and the fact that he's next in line for leadership. She'd try to befriend him and just understand this grizzly bear of a student.
Seth: Not entirely sure if these two would be odd pseudo friends that no one understands what they see in the other or Seth avoids Melanie like the plague when all she did was nothing. He might think she's annoying, a little fly that won't stop buzzing plus given the fact that she's a supposed queen a spoiled pest no doubt. But all Melanie's ever done was shyly ask if he needs more fabric and brought tea. While they both sew and make clothing Seth's far better at the craft then Mel so she would try to at least learn something from him, only for him to make her leave. She does try to be his assistant so he can do this like eat and take breaks, if he needs a model she's up for the job no payment needed.

Ceridwen: *stumbles out of the medic tent with an ice pack on her forehead* Why did I agree to do this? I’ve been here as long as everyone else and have done next to nothing. *sees Furo coming and hides behind a crate stack.*
Basil, lying on top of the crate stack: Oh~ Ferret! Come quickly! Mongoossssse is-
Ceridwen: *jumps up and presses her hand over his mouth* Don’t! Holy- Can you not be a complete and utter mug for five minutes? I can’t handle the shame of them seeing me after doing nothing. Speaking of, why are you just lounging about?
Basil: *snickers* I’m taking a break~. A well deserved one, too. I’ve been running errandsssss all day. I even took over some of your jobsssss.
Ceridwen: Oh…I see. *backs away, still stumbling a little.* Well, in that case, I won’t disturb you any longer-
Basil: *coils his tail around her legs and pulls her up* Where do you think you’re going? You’re in no shape to walk anywhere, and you still need to contribute sssssomething. Sunstroke or no sunstroke.
Furo: *passes them* Did you call me Basil?
Basil: Ferret! *slithers off the crates and picks them up* Folkssss are making a speedy recovery. I just wanted to assssk your opinion on sssomething~
•~•~•
Basil: *sets Ceridwen down at the base of a large tree in the middle of the festival and climbs up. He then drops his tail down and hoists Furo up by their waist*. I wanted to decorate this tree, and I’d say you have the mossssst artisssstic eye out of everyone here. What do you think? Some flowerssss and ribbons? Ceridwen needs to do ssssomething, and if Squirrel (Pip), Bunny (Blake), Maine Coon (Anastasia) are recovered send them down here as well. It’s all in the shade so they won’t get I’ll again, and I’ll do all the heavy lifting. Why, I used to dangle my little brother by the waist from our roof whenever the windowssss needed cleaning. They’ll all be perfectly safe. Trussssst me. In fact, why don’t you pitch in, too? If you have time.
Ceridwen: L-Lifting? Oh I don’t think so, mate. *starts crawling away* You wouldn’t see me up a ruddy tree if you paid me.
Furo gasped. "Great Seven! That's an AMAZING IDEA!!" Furo flapped their hands as they looked through the tree. "We could make it look like the tree from the story! The one that restored the princess' hair!"
They stood up in the tree and started to walk from branch to branch. Furo precariously balanced on one and held onto another that boughed down. They muttered to themselves all the while. "If we do this then it could..."
"F-furo?" Ceridwen stopped their crawling as they saw the dangerous situation her host put themselves in. "Please be care-AHH!"
Furo let go of the branch and jumped out of the tree. Ceridwen felt her heart leap into her throat. She scrambled to try and catch her host, but they were falling too fast, and Ceridwen was just out of reach.
Furo landed and rushed to Ceridwen. They grabbed her shoulders and stared into her eyes with bright ones. "Ceridwen! Come make paper lanterns with me! And streamers! We can make them look like weaver bird nests! And hair! SQUEEEE!"
"Wait, but, I don't- I've never made crafts before!" Ceridwen had never seen this much enthusiasm from the Pomefiore student.
"THAT'S FINE I'LL TEACH YOU! THIS IS GOING TO BE THE PRETTIEST TREE EVER!!! COME ON!!" Furo pulled back and smiled. " Bestiary - Passage of the Cheetah!!" With a puff of magic, a cheetah was now in front of Ceridwen. Since Furo had not been wearing their iconic blue bow, there was nothing to visually differ Cheetah-Furo from a regular cheetah. They ducked under Ceridwen's legs to force them to mount on Furo's back. Furo then took off in the direction of their home with one passenger.
"FURO WAIT!! SLOW DOWN!!" Ceridwen screamed.
Basil, while this was all happening, was still perched in a tree laughing his scales off.

Note
The sun was high in the sky and beat down relentlessly on the volunteers. Those not used to warmer climates suffered most.
Ceridwen had retreated under her parasol with Pip, Anastasia, and Blake. There was barely enough room for the four of them underneath it, but they managed.
Anastasia and Blake were fanning themselves with a leaves and Pip was pouring cold water onto her hands. Ceridwen was slowly nodding off, which none of the others seemed willing to prevent since she hardly ever slept.
The parasol swayed in her fatigued hands, subjecting them all to momentary bursts of searing heat.
Just then, something cool and smooth brushed against their backs. Blake, the most attentive of the group, arched his back and yelped. Ana, slightly more delirious since being aquatic made her unused to heat, brushed her hand across what looked to be a moving log, and was surprised to feel scales.
“Room for one more, dearsssss?”
Appearing seemingly from nowhere, Basil loomed over them with a crate of cool water bottles. No one has to say it: he was more than welcome.
His tail drooped lazily around all of the four like they were pillows in the Scarabia common room, and the tip took the handle of the parasol. Ceridwen slumped heavily after being relieved of her burden.
———
From across the venue, Furo spotted them from their stall. There was no time for breaks! It was true they’d all put in a lot of hard work already, but there were still chores to be done. Furo thought it best to get them back to work before their siblings caught them loafing.
“Come on, up you all get,” they said. They were met with nothing but groans from the four, even Pip who was usually bursting to help. Basil harmonised with them.
“What’s the rush, Ferret? Mongoose is about to get sunstroke, and Squirrel, Baby Bunny, and Maine Coon (Anastasia) are exhausssssted. Oh, I know! Why don’t you join us? You could use a break. I couldn’t call myself a Balanaga if I didn’t promote adequate rest for the body~”
Furo took a step back, but Basil looped a coil around their legs and yanked them off balance. They landed on a thicker loop of his tail with an ungainly thud.
“It’s just for a few minutes.” Basil tightened his grip when Furo tried to stand up. “No use over-exerting yourself. You’ll get sick.”
It was like trying to get up from a bean-bag chair. Basil's tail kept them in place. What he said made sense, Furo knew that, but they were so used to this level of activity when it came to their town that it felt like nothing. Furo scanned the others with squinted eyes. They were melting. Ceridwen had the worst of it.
Their friends took time out of their schedule to come out and help. They didn't need to do that. Furo sighed.
If Mama gets in a tiff because I left my post, I can take it. The town can pick up the slack of a few teenagers. Time to make a switch!
"Basil, let me up please dearie," Furo requested sweetly.
"No. You'll just go back to work. I've ssseen people like thiss at my parent'ssss ssspa," Basil smirked at their attempt.
Furo shook their head, "Nah, I won't do that. You said so yourself; Ceridwen could have a heatstroke any minute. If you or I fell asleep in this heat we'd be fine, but she'll shrivel up if we just let her sleep here." Furo gave a pat on Basil's scales. "I think we should switch positions, don't you?"
Basil gave an airy laugh as he let Furo up. He curled around Ceridwen's unconscious body. "Ssso what do you have in sssstore?
Furo hooked an arm under Blake's and pulled him to his feet. The poor bunny groaned, "Ugghhh, I feel like wet sock~"
"Yes, yes," Furo gave him a pat on the head as they pulled Anastasia up as well. "We are gonna hide out in the security tent! My dad should be there, and he's probably hogging a big bowl of melon pieces. So, as his child, I'm going to make him share!"
"Melon sounds...wonderful right now," Ana sighed as they leaned their head on Furo's shoulder.
"Basil, can you get Pip as well?" Furo asked.
"You don't need to do that. I...I can walk," Pip tried to decline, but she swayed precariously when she stood. Basil easily swept her into his coils as well.
"I've been slacking on taking care of my kiddos! Now, let's go hide from the heat!"

Note
(For the event!)
The heat across Basil's scales was euphoric, and the temperate grass had a scratchy tickle to it he had never felt before. It was truly luxurious, and would have gladly spent the day lounging in the sun were it not for Ceridwen fussing over him.
"Get your scaly backside to the fair," she fussed, shooing him forward with her parasol. Her chalky skin looked like it would catch fire if she came out from under the shade. "We've got stalls to set up and impressions to make." She spotted Furo further ahead. They were unloading boxes for the stalls, and watching them work so hard in the blistering heat seemed akin to torture.
"If you insissst, Mongoossse~"
Ceridwen shrieked as she was knocked off her feet and landed in a loop of Basil's tail. She beat him with her parasol as he slithered ahead, clearing the distance in half the time it would have taken her to walk it.
"Furo!" Basil exclaimed as he drew up, wrapping his toned arms around them. "Love the venue, my little ferret. You couldn't have chosen a better place for a cold-blooded creature like me~"
Cerdiwen struggled to her feet and dusted herself off angrily. Once free of her, Basil's tail wrapped around Furo's legs and squeezed them in greeting. A pop came from their kneecaps.
"Be gentle with our host," Ceridwen scolded, folding her parasol and embracing them herself. She already looked uncomfortable from the heat, but any discomfort was outshined by her warm smile."What do you need us to do, my darling? Nothing heavy for me, as I've got a bad back-"
"Are we due another chiropractic session soon?~" cooed Basil.
Ceridwen's eyes screamed 'behave' at him. "But I'll happily pitch in any way I can."
Furo had their hair pulled back as sweat dripped down their neck. Their bow discarded as their hair started to curl once more in the heat. They had gotten up earlier than their friends to try and start setting up one of the vendor tents. They used a handkerchief tied around their hip to wipe the sweat off when they were wrapped in a tight hug.
"Basil! Glad you are enjoying yourself. We lucked out with the weather being nice," Furo accepted the embrace of the snake. They felt his tail wrap around their legs and let out a small squeak at the pop in their knees. "Ah, I should have seen that coming."
"Have to make sure you are in top shape to work," Basil explained himself.
Furo sighed into the less constricting hug Ceridwen, "Don't worry, I can handle a few knots being squeezed out of me." They airily giggled, "Although, my legs do feel like look pudding now. Might have to take a seat for a quick second."
"Here, take a seat then. Basil here needs to learn how to not be a chiropractor when not asked," Ceridwen made a pointed remark at the naga.
"Thanks for the help you two," Furo smiled. "Basil, could you be a dear and roll out the last stack of tables to set up? They should be by the entrance of the tent. And if you could lay out the name cards for vendors on each table Ceridwen, that would be great. I have the floorplan on the table here already."
"Eassssy peasssy," Basil slithered out of the tent to get the tables.
"Leave it to us," Ceridwen assured.
"I'll be setting up the donation area in the back of the tent then if you need me!" Furo tried to stand up again. They were a bit wobbly, like a newborn wildebeest, but got their footing quickly. They set to work again with help this time.

AND HOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW IN THE WORLD VANE WAS THE VICTOR HONSETLY MAKES ME LAUGH. But I’m so proud of my boy.
(My conscience: He shot Ana in the head.

Also, I couldn't fit some of Zack's ocs in, so I just went with who I knew. :'D
Tumblr media
Report:
Ceridwen, Thais, Vane, Violet, Xeron, Pip, and Tallis ran away from the Cornucopia. Cowards or geniuses, who knows?
Kiran and Silas grabbed a shield, which is rather ironic, considering they're more of the offensive type?
Billy, Furo, Slyvan, and Ana shared everything they gathered before running. Billy sharing things with others in a killing game is not a move I expected from him!
Iris broke Pollux's nose over a basket of bread, it must have been some bread.
Sei snatched a pair of sais, good for him.
Aurora grabbed a shovel, I wonder why.
Mahira gave up a bag to Emilio, I expected better from him.
Tumblr media
Report:
Thais, Ceridwen, Emilio, Wyn, Seth, Basil, Iris, Tallis, Aurora, Joules, and Ana hunted for tributes. I never would have expected some of them to do such a thing!
Xeron had time to construct a shack. Impressive.
Billy, Silas, and Furo tried to spear fish with a trident. Key word being tried.
Silas looked for a water source. Smart.
Mahira ran away from Pollux. I expected better from him.
Tumblr media
Report:
Seth begged Iris to kill him, and she did. Oh god.
Sei received medical supplied from a sponsor, Pip received a hatchet.
Tallis thought about home. This made me feel a little guilty for putting them though this. Just a little.
Koron killed Wyn with a poisonous dart. I wonder if he made the thing himself.
Ana bombed Mahira, Aurora, and Xeron. Oh god. She's lost it, hasn't she?
Ceridwen spared Vane. How nice of her?
Pollux, Billy, Kiran, and Thais also lost it. But not the way Ana did.
Tumblr media
Report:
Vane and Basil hunted for other tributes.
Sei attacked Slyvan, but he managed to escape. That was a close one.
Pip stabbed Joules in the back with a trident. That's a brutal way to go out.
Emilio ran away from Ana. After what happened last night, that was a smart move.
Silas tried to sleep through the entire day. Honestly, mood.
Tumblr media
Report:
After a relatively peaceful first day, things heat up on the second day.
Tumblr media
Report:
Furo stabbed Violet with a tree branch. Why can I picture that happening?
Ana really did lose it.
Tumblr media
Report:
Pip convined Sei not to kill her, only to kill him instead. Talk about next level manipulation.
Furo chased Tallis, Koron ran away from Emilio. What fun.
Slyvan received a hatchet from an unknown sponsor, Silas received medical supplies. I think they would rather have swapped.
Tumblr media
Report:
Very brutal deaths.
Tumblr media
Report:
Koron refused to kill Basil. How mean of him.
Furo tended to Silas' wounds. How very on-brand of them.
Ceridwen spared Slyvan. I wonder if that'll backfire on her later.
Emilio received a hatchet from an unknown sponsor, Vane received clean water.
Tallis questioned his sanity. Rightfully so.
Tumblr media
Report:
Silas has a thing where people get the urge to treat his wounds.
Ana received an explosive from an unknown sponsor. Enabling her, I see.
