Cool shout out to the GL/GA team up of the 1970s. To quote Wikipedia:
“In the early 1970s, Green Arrow became a co-feature with Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) in an acclaimed series of stories by O’Neil and Adams that dealt with various social and political issues. The two co-stars served to represent contrasting sociopolitical viewpoints: Green Arrow spoke for radical change while Green Lantern was an establishment liberal figure, wanting to work within existing institutions of government and law. Queen convinces Jordan to see beyond his strict obedience to the Green Lantern Corps, to help those who were neglected or discriminated against. O’Neil explained: “He would be a hot-tempered anarchist to contrast with the cerebral, sedate model citizen who was Green Lantern.” The duo embarks on a quest in a beat-up pickup truck to “find America”, along the way witnessing the problems of corruption, racism, pollution, as well as overpopulation confronting the nation.“
Where’s my progressive socialist Green Arrow CW?

A brilliant soul was lost on July 24, 2024, with the passing of Jackson Taylor ___, 31. Known to most of the world as Jack, he was Taylor to his family.
Taylor was born on April 5, 1993, in ___, AL, to Tracy and Wendy Neely as the middle of 3 children. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gary Lynn ___: a larger-than-life man whose memory and legacy Taylor cherished and carried with him. He is survived by the love of his life, April; his father, Tracy, and his mother, Wendy; his older brother, Nathan, and his wife, Whitney; his younger sister, Bailey; his grandmother, Wanda ___; his aunt, Monnie ___; his grandfather, James Taylor ___, and his wife, Wanda; his uncle, Chris ___; his 2 beloved dogs, Izzy and Lula, and his cat, Charlie—as well as countless other family and friends whose lives he touched.
Despite its brevity, Jack’s life overflowed with accomplishments creative, professional, and personal. He was a community leader dedicated to building others up using his own experiences in overcoming seemingly insurmountable challenges. He was gifted with great natural talent, though it was his tenacity, dedication, and determination which truly defined him. Committed to self-improvement, he embodied the spirit of getting back up after being knocked down.
Creating music was one of Taylor’s greatest joys in life; he was a marimbist, a pianist, a flautist, and a guitarist over the years, and the lyrics he wrote were raw, haunting, and cerebral. Music gave him the opportunity to experience the world beyond his hometown as part of the Music City Drum Corps in 2011. Passionate and intense, Taylor cared deeply for his family and friends. With warmth, empathy, and abundant generosity, he strove to better the lives of those around him and sought to be someone to whom others could turn for support. He wore his heart on his sleeve and was a vibrant, vivid figure with a blindingly bright future ahead of him that he forged with burning resolve and unyielding defiance.
From a young age, he was an autodidact, teaching himself whatever caught his interest to satisfy his own searing curiosity. This extraordinary self-motivation and self-discipline gave him the ability to not only recover but continuously triumph after being laid low. At the start of 2022, he was living in an RV as he took online courses in Cloud Computing at Western Governors University. By January the next year, he and his partner April had bought a beautiful house together that they spent the next year turning into a truly wonderful home.
At the time of his passing, Jack was a Cloud Services Engineer. He held many positions over the course of his career in IT, including working as a Cloud Support Technician, a Cloud Migration Lead, and a Lead Cloud Engineer. He never stopped pushing himself, and given time to realize his limitless potential, his full list of achievements would have been overwhelmingly long.
Jack will be remembered for his sense of humor, which alternated between wry and goofy, and his hugs, which were always perfect and exactly what you needed. He will be remembered for his laugh, his smile, and his refusal to be anyone or anything less than his whole self. He will be remembered for his creativity, stubbornness, and perseverance. And he will be remembered for who he was in the moments that mattered.
Above all, Taylor was unequivocally, unconditionally, and unwaveringly loved by his family, who remain immensely proud of his character, his intelligence, and his creativity, as well as his numerous achievements. Colorful and singular, there has never been and never will be another like him. One of a kind, the world is duller for his absence.
No services will be held, and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider sending a donation to the National Alliance on Mental Illness at https://www.nami.org/.
If you or someone you know is struggling, please reach out for help. The 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 for free simply by calling or texting 988. Your call is confidential, and you are not alone.
This obituary was written by his loving sister, who wishes more than anything that he was here to read it.

On 11th August 1892 poet Christopher Murray Grieve was born in Langholm.
C M Grieve, or Hugh MacDiarmid as he is better known, was a journalist and writer of poetry and prose. He is now recognised as the principle force of the Scottish Literary Renaissance, a movement which radically altered the landscape of Scottish writing in the first half of the 20th century.
MacDiarmid worked as a journalist prior to the outbreak of the first world war, and in 1914 he was appointed to serve in the Royal Army Medical Corps in Salonica, Greece and France. He developed cerebral malaria in 1918 and was sent back to Scotland to recover. Two of his poems, Another Epitaph on an Army of Mercenaries and At the Cenotaph, angrily refute the notion of war as anything but futile.
After the war, he continued to work as a journalist and spent most of the 1920s living in Montrose, where he became chief reporter at the local paper. He was later appointed Justice of the Peace and a member of the county council.
After a time living in the remote Shetland island of Whalsay he moved to a cottage (with little in the way of comfort) near Biggar. Although never having made much of a living through his work he was much admired and his political beliefs saw him travelling to the old USSR and China.
MacDiarmid was interested in language and came to believe that the Scottish psyche could not be expressed in the English language alone, and had to be developed and written in a synthetic Scots to achieve a coherent national voice. He began to evolve a synthetic Scots gathered from many regional variants, and to reclaim archaic language which, once used by the Makars, had fallen from use.
For a man not keen on sentimentality he had a deep felt love for Scotland and wasn’t shy in showing where he belonged by wearing the kilt often.
There is a memorial to MacDiarmid just north of Langholm. It takes the form of a giant book and was designed by sculptor Jake Harvey as seen in the second pic.
Scotland Small?
Scotland small? Our multiform, our infinite Scotland small? Only as a patch of hillside may be a cliché corner To a fool who cries ‘Nothing but heather!’ where in September another Sitting there and resting and gazing around Sees not only the heather but blaeberries With bright green leaves and leaves already turned scarlet, Hiding ripe blue berries; and amongst the sage-green leaves Of the bog-myrtle the golden flowers of the tormentil shining; And on the small bare places, where the little Blackface sheep Found grazing, milkworts blue as summer skies; And down in neglected peat-hags, not worked Within living memory, sphagnum moss in pastel shades Of yellow, green, and pink; sundew and butterwort Waiting with wide-open sticky leaves for their tiny winged prey; And nodding harebells vying in their colour With the blue butterflies that poise themselves delicately upon them; And stunted rowans with harsh dry leaves of glorious colour. ‘Nothing but heather!’ ̶ How marvellously descriptive! And incomplete!

Just got back from Deadpool and Wolverine. Loved it, but as a Loki series fan, I have…notes.
Serious spoilers ahead, so don’t click thru unless you’ve seen the movie (or don’t plan to).
B-15 was in it for longer than I was expecting, which was cool, but I got the impression that they really didn’t know what to do with the character. I was pleased to see that she apparently got a bigger promotion than I imagined (in fanfic, I basically had her as head of security), but the film never really even tried to explain who she was and what her job was. B-15 is such a great character, and she’s basically the conscience of the TVA. I know Deadpool isn’t exactly cerebral drama, but I was wishing for a little more about the ethics of the TVA, and how Paradox’s plans violated that.
I was expecting the “something huge” she had to show Wade and Logan to be something bigger than lines on a TemPad, like maybe Yggdrasil?
Only mention of Loki was Wade saying “Loki season 1, episode 5”. *sigh* (But that was funny.)
The TVA still has factions, apparently. Is it too much to hope that they could turn that into a season 3 somewhere down the road?
No other Loki characters. Boo.
The Void has as many Deadpools as Lokis (but we didn’t see any of the latter this time). That makes sense — they’re both agents of chaos, so Deadpools probably got pruned a lot too. (What I wouldn’t give to see an epic battle of Lokis vs. the Deadpool Corps!)
Bonus: “I am Marvel Jesus, you dull creature!” *hulk smash* 🤣

B5 03e14 Ship of Tears previous episode • table of contents
The news from Earth is back, but it's fully propaganda now.
I'm glad Sheridan's getting to play in the starfuries for a bit. He definitely needs some chill, fun, flying time.
Dang, it's Walter Koenig! My guy, Bester. Can't wait to see what evil shenanigans he's up to now!
He's such a good villain. So reasonable. So...off.
I don't get why the gang are still stonewalling G'Kar...it's ever more fucked up the longer they keep doing it. C'mon, be better.
I forgot about the new uniforms for a bit but I like them. Looking snazzy! I like the lines and random patch of color.
I genuinely wonder if Bester intentionally goaded her into hitting him. Glad PsiCorps are against the Shadows...it's a low bar to clear, since the Shadows are against life, but still glad.
This is a huge enemy-of-my-enemy stretch, though, considering elements within PsiCorps have been directly enemies with B5 interests themselves. Still, cooperation has got to be key against the shadows.
Wow, this is the biggest fight I've seen Delenn and John have! But seriously for the best to read G'Kar in on all the intel. He brought his intel to them! it's insulting they haven't read him in to their own intel.
Oh shit, they disclosed the existence of the Secret Ship to Bester! That's a hell of a move, as is it for Bester to just plop into the Captain's chair on the bridge. Is that a Star Trek nod? Chekov never commanded the Enterprise in any of the episodes and never sat in the chair, so Bester steals the chair for a second in B5? Cute.
I gotta pay close attention to Delenn and G'Kar's talk. Delenn's decision to obsfucate was directly because of the Grey Council's decision not to share any info. Delenn's arguing it was a good decision, because if they'd allied openly with the Narns from the beginning, the Shadows would have wiped out the Narns entirely instead of only enabling the Centauri to genocide and oppress them.
I find G'Kar's reaction a bit...odd. He talks himself around to agreeing with her, which I find a bit shameful of the writers. It cannot ever be a good thing that a people were wiped out without any foreknowledge from supposed allies. Maybe it wouldn't have changed the outcome in terms of life, but who could say what they may have done?
They have a sort of tractor beam and caught a ship, cool. Weapon's supplies, but it seems to be a person in pained stasis. Dun dun dun.
It's so wild that they took Bester into their confidence enough to take him on the White Star when they're known G'Kar all along and he still doesn't know it exists! Wild, wild set of priorities on information sharing. Bester has been a literally mortal threat to them all, G'Kar has never been a threat to any of them but Londo. And that was fair anyhow.
A shadow body? Or a different species that's allied? I thought the shadows were multi-limbed, spindly things.
Not just one person in a tube, but over a hundred! Ivanova called them sleeper tubes, but Dr Franklin calls them cryotubes.
They have impants on either side of their cerebral cortexes, the lady they were waking up slowly came to screaming and asking why they were doing this. Bester identifies her as "a blip," a telepath who refused to take suppressants or join the corps. This lady is P-11 or P-12.
And she has a terrible nightmare/flashback to what looks to be three individuals, the same species as the unidentified body they found earlier. Leaning towards species allied with the shadows.
P-12 lady made herself a nest of wires? And first thing she tries to do is lure Bester in and attack him. Good instincts, lol. And she's in pain, she says. Bester claims she has no reason attack him or sabotage the station by ripping out all the wires, and she automatically shoots at Bester's PsiCorps broach.
Her name is Carolyn - I guess the shadows already got their hands on her and into her brain? Well that's harrowing. idk what her shared telepathy with Bester was about, even with Bester's explanation. He met her when she was caught and sent to the re-education center, and immediately fell in love with her. Tried to make her experience in the center better...I guess? Bigger quarters and more food. Yikes. And then he knocked her up. No mention of if she had anything to say about that?? jesus.
Hm, Shadows use people as processing for their ships? They are acting like they've talked about it before, but it's new info to me, and horrifying info at that.
Bester says his promise to keep her and their baby safe is the only promise he's ever made that he meant a damn. And that if they can help her, he's 100% on Sheridan's side. Handy! If they can pull it off and get those next level impants out of her or something.
Ivanova says he'll turn on them the second it's all over and I'm inclined to believe her. Maybe he'd play nicer for longer if he achieved some of his goals for telepaths - they are the future, he says.
Did Garibaldi finally teach himself enough Narn to read some of G'Kar's book? Good for him.
The Shadows are weak to telepaths, hence probably the 100+ telepaths being made into ship components. And this info is so timely, because the Shadows are attacking a place right now! Telepaths! We ride at space dawn!
Kosh...

A Submarine Pirate (1915) / Willful Ambrose (1915) / Bombs! (1916) / The Feathered Nest (1916) / Her Torpedoed Love (1917) / Hearts and Flowers (1919) / Down on the Farm (1920)
From her Keystone debut in 1915 to her last First National comedy in 1922, Fazenda was one of Sennett's top comedy stars—appearing in nearly 60 Sennett shorts and features during that time.
Fazenda became familiar audiences as the hayseed girl who was forever falling prey to the shifty city slicker or evil mortgage holder, with her spit curl, ribbon-tied pigtails and calico dress. Just as often, she was the hard-working blue-collar girl who would leave her dreary job as a waitress or maid to collect a healthy inheritance—pursued by the usual assortment of Sennett fortune hunters. With hazel eyes and light brown hair, Fazenda could just as easily put on a blonde wig and play attractive, vampish roles.
Born in Lafayette, Indiana, the daughter of a Mexican-born grocer and American-born mother, Fazenda's family moved to LA by 1900—where she attended Los Angeles High School and St. Mary's Convent. She debuted in dramatic stock with Miss Del Valle in LA and later appeared with Virginia Brissac. Louise got her start in films at Universal in 1912 under the direction of Wilfred Lucas, but by 1913 was appearing alongside Max Asher, Harry McCoy, Bobby Vernon, Gale Henry, Lee Morris, Billy Franey, Heinie Conklin and the other featured players in Universal's Joker Comedies.
When her Sennett contract ended in Sep 1920, Fazenda joined Special Pictures Corp. briefly in late 1920; then she appeared in a trio of California Producers Corp.'s Punch Comedies (1921) co-starring Chester Conklin and John Henry Jr. That came before a brief return to Sennett for a couple of appearances during 1921-22. Fazenda starred in some of Jack White's Mermaid Comedies (1923-24) before settling into roles in features. With the coming of sound, Louise returned to shorts for Christie (1929) and Darmour (1930). She continued with feature support in films. Fazenda found a second home at Warner Brothers, becoming a familiar character face in musicals.
On March 7, 1919, Fazenda married Sennett director Noel M. Smith, to whom she'd been engaged since 1917; they separated on August 14, 1923, and divorced on August 1, 1926. On November 24, 1927 she married Warner Bros. publicity director Hal B. Wallis, soon to became Warners' studio manager and then a long-time film producer. Fazenda retired from the screen in 1939, and remained married to Wallis until her death at 66 in Beverly Hills of a cerebral hemorrhage, leaving Wallis and son Brent. She is interred at Inglewood Park Cemetery, Inglewood, California.

Actually, do the four stats actually coöperate very well? I can imagine the Psyche crew getting into some arguments.
VOLITION- There are good days and bad days. Authority was always difficult to reason with. Esprit used to be much more closely aligned with the rest of us, but has recently drifted closer and closer to…
VOLITION- Well, not even all of Physique. Mostly just Physical Instrument with a bit of Half Light.
ESPRIT DE CORPS- Horseshit. I kept Harry from dying while you all stayed soft.
PHYSICAL INSTRUMENT- Exactly. You whimpering fairies need to grow a spine. Coppo is doing the absolute least.
ENDURANCE- Other than the pervert, we physical skills keep to ourselves. Getting handsy is the domain of the finger freaks.
REACTION SPEED- Bad wording. We’re just acquaintances.
COMPOSURE- Still a higher level of familiarity than most of them. Like coworkers rather than animals in the same enclosure.
CONCEPTUALIZATION- I feel surrounded by a bunch of overly cerebral blowhards.
DRAMA- Frankly, I can’t stand a single one of them.

The Instructor
In a world meticulously crafted and controlled, "The Instructor: Echoes of Duty" delves into the intricate web of duty, discipline, and determination within the Paramedic Corps. Directed by a masterful hand, this film weaves a tapestry of raw human emotions against the backdrop of a society where every heartbeat is synchronized to the rhythm of the paramedic code.
Starring in a role that seems tailor-made for him, is Jackson LeClarke who served himself in the paramedic corps. He delivers a performance that is as chilling as it is moving. His portrayal of a seasoned intendurd servant, bound by the ironclad rules of the Corps, resonates with an eerie authenticity. With every glance and every word, he embodies the struggle of someone who believes in the system even as it threatens to consume his humanity.
The film opens with a chilling scene — a pristine paramedic station, shadows cast ominously by the harsh fluorescent lights. The silence is shattered by the arrival of the new recruits, fresh-faced and eager. As they embark on their intense training, the audience is thrust into a world where the line between mentorship and indoctrination blurs.
The cinematography in "The Instructor" is both haunting and beautiful. The stark, clinical interiors of the training facility contrast sharply with the serene yet indifferent beauty of the outside world. Each frame is a careful study in contrast, mirroring the internal conflict of the characters.
From the crack of dawn, when the recruits dutifully adorn their chastity cages, to the meticulous scrutiny by the instructors ensuring conformity, the film is a visceral dive into the heart of paramedic indoctrination.
The neuro-based VR training sequences are a spectacle to behold. Through the lens of cutting-edge technology, the recruits' minds are stretched and challenged, forging them into the finest paramedics. The VR training, portrayed with stunning visual effects, captures the surreal blend of reality and simulation, where the line between the two blurs until it's indistinguishable.
As the recruits navigate the labyrinthine corridors of virtual emergencies, the audience is drawn into their world. The palpable tension, the rush of adrenaline, and the overwhelming responsibility are portrayed so vividly that viewers find themselves holding their breath in sync with the characters on screen.
The supporting cast, composed of young recruits navigating their way through a world that demands perfection, brings a refreshing authenticity to the film. Their wide-eyed idealism clashes with the weathered, stoic facade of the instructors, creating moments of tension that resonate long after the credits roll.
The script, penned with a pen dipped in cynicism and splattered with irony, delves deep into the psyche of those who serve the Corps. It questions the price of obedience, the cost of loyalty, and the fine line between devotion and blind submission. The dialogues are razor-sharp, leaving the audience with lingering questions about duty, sacrifice, and the nature of freedom.
Accompanied by a haunting, minimalist score, "The Instructor: Echoes of Duty" is a cerebral journey that challenges not only the characters on screen but also the viewers in the theater. It prompts introspection, forcing us to confront the uncomfortable truths about our own allegiances and the systems we uphold.
In the end, "The Instructor" is not merely a film; it's a thought-provoking exploration of the human spirit under the weight of duty. It's a chilling reminder that even the noblest of causes can demand a price too high, and the echoes of duty reverberate long after the screen fades to black.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Syracuse star, Williams died from rare bacterial sepsis
Former Mike Williams, a talented wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Syracuse, died at the age of 36 from a rare bacterial infection. According to the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office, Williams was hurt in a work-related construction accident on August 21, which resulted in his illness.
He was removed from life support on September 12. Bacterial sepsis with cerebral abscesses and necrotizing lobar pneumonia, caused by numerous dental caries and retained dental roots, were identified as the cause of death.
According to the medical examiner's office, this unusual disease is linked to poor dental health, cavities, and infection. Furthermore, arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease was identified as a contributory reason to Williams' death. The full autopsy reports and toxicology testing are still awaiting, but records show that Williams had a history of marijuana use, social alcohol drinking, and regular use of Kratom, a herbal supplement known for its stimulant and narcotic properties.
Investigations uncovered no evidence of foul play, leading to the conclusion that Williams died of natural causes. Prior to his unfortunate tragedy, Williams had resigned from the NFL after playing for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016. He was working for Exodus Electric Corp. in Tampa when he was struck by heavy materials on the project site.

August 26th 1875 saw the birth of the Novelist and statesman John Buchan in Perth.
His father was a minister in the Free Church of Scotland.
Following a, more or less, usual education for those times, he went first, to Glasgow University and then Brasenose College, Oxford after which he trained as a barrister and was called to the bar in 1901. Buchan went to South Africa later in 1901 to assist in the re-structuring of that country in the wake of the Boer Wars but returned to England in 1903.
In July 1907 he married Susan Charlotte Grosvenor. They had two children.
He worked as a literary adviser for the Nelson publishing house until the First World War, in which he served in the Intelligence Corps at first, and later in the Ministry of Information. After the war he became a Member of Parliament.
Buchan was a writer throughout his life. Whatever his job, wherever he was, he continued writing. He authored over 100 books in total, covering a considerable range: history, biography, essays, and fiction. All of them well thought of by those best able to judge them. But it is for his fiction that he is most remembered by the public at large.
Some of his better-known are,The 39 Steps, Greenmantle, and John Macnab
In 1935 he was created Baron Tweedsmuir of Elsfield and also appointed governor-general of Canada, a post which he held until his death. He was featured on the cover of the iconic Time magazine in October 1935.
On the 6th February 1940 in Montreal, he suffered a cerebral thrombosis and died 5 days later (aged 64).
Although most well know for his novels, and non fiction, Buchan was an accomplished published poe,so I searched throughsome of his work and found a verse that was very personal to him.I is extract from his elegy shows how nature co-existed with horrendous warfare - and also how an individual tragedy can have the widest of resonances.
ALASTAIR BUCHAN (1917)
A mile or two from Arras town
The yellow moorland stretches far,
And from its crest the roads go down
Like arrows to the front of war.
All day the laden convoys pass,
The sunburnt troops are swinging by,
And far above the trampled grass
The droning planes climb up the sky.
In April when I passed that way
An April joy was in the breeze;
The hollows of the woods were gay
With slender-stalked anemones.
The horn of Spring was faintly blown,
Bidding a ransomed world awake,
Nor could the throbbing batteries drown
The nesting linnets in the brake.
And as I stood beside the grave,
Where ’mid your kindly Scots you lie,
I could not think that one so brave,
So glad of heart, so kind of eye,
Had found the deep and dreamless rest,
Which men may crave who bear the scars
Of weary decades on their breast,
And yearn for slumber after wars.
You scarce had shed your boyhood’s years,
In every vein the blood ran young,
Your soul uncramped by ageing fears,
Your tales untold, your songs unsung.
As if my sorrow to beguile,
I heard the ballad’s bold refrain:
‘I’ll lay me downe and bleed a-while,
And then I’ll rise Aand fight again.

Dezvoltarea unui organoid cerebral
