The swedish liberal/neoliberal party Centerpartiet wants to limit not only the unions right to solidarity actions but also take away the right to strike if a company has salary and benefits in par with the collective agreement. This is wild!

The point with an agreement is to give the workers the right to influence their own working conditions and to protect them from the arbitrariness of relying solely on the good will of their employer.

Collective agreements is also a way to ensure that companies compete with eachother through innovation, rather than inadequate working conditions.

These folks really hates that workers have power in numbers. They try to dress it up in pretty words, but oh my, how they hate it!

Listen, I wish nothing more than to forget the United States exist, but "vote blue no matter who" is the silliest slogan I've ever heard. What if the democrats decide they actually should be exactly like the republicans? Then should I still vote blue (which I can't do due to I'm Swedish reasons so it's purely hypothetical)? What if they decide to violate as many human rights as possible?

Like this isn't actionable political advice. It's advice to not know anything about who you're supporting. I absolutely don't know as much about politics as the average leftist but if an issue is important to me I will find out if the party I'm voting for agrees with me, not just vote for them because of their stated political affiliation (do y'all really think Centerpartiet are centrist? If you put their answers into a political compass test they end up at approximately the same place as Moderaterna who are seen as one of the most right wing popular parties)

33. How can the working class influence political power?

A strong pressure from the shop floors can change politics to the advantage of the working class. This has occurred many times throughout history. The trade union movement is a decisive factor behind the development of tyrannical states into liberal and parliamentary states, characterized by the rule of law, and later on into welfare states as well.

In a pamphlet from 1939, the syndicalist Anders Ek describes welfare reforms as the capitalists’ “insurance premiums” against socialism, as a response to rebellious workers (you can read about the term socialism in Part 4 of the book). The simple dynamic is that due to the threat from the working class the ruling classes have given up a small part of their power and wealth, in order not to lose everything.

The statutory rights that we enjoy in todays’ labour market is the result of collective battles that were first won in the workplaces and then left their mark in legislation. This includes, for example, a 40-hour working week, employment protection, paid holidays, the right to organize in unions and bargain collectively. The collective strength in the workplaces is also the guarantee that our rights are upheld. When our strength is undermined, employers move their positions forward and shape legislation against the interests of the working class.

The struggle between labour and capital permeates state bodies and supranational regulatory bodies. Conflicts within the political establishment sometimes open up new opportunities for trade union influence. One example is the labour law reforms of the 1970s in Sweden. At the time, the Social Democratic Party tried to use legislation as a weapon against independent unions outside LO, TCO and Saco, against SAC amongst others. According to one of the proposals for a new co-determination act, the right to bargain would be significantly limited for SAC. At that time, two parties (Folkpartiet and Centerpartiet) opposed the proposal, due to major lobbying efforts from SAC.

The overall purpose of trade union organizing is to shift the relations of power between labour and capital in favour of labour. This has a democratizing effect on the workplaces, on the political system and the social order as a whole.

However, syndicalism stresses that the state apparatus primarily is a state for the capitalists, not the workers. It is also a state of politicians and high-level bureaucrats, not a state of the people. As long as power in society is concentrated at the top of the business world, state and supranational bodies, it simply means that the power of the broad masses of the people is severely limited.

In our workplaces, the state basically acts as the protector of employers. The state maintains the capitalist control over companies — ultimately through the monopoly on violence. In the public sector, the state of course maintains the bosses’ control over employees as well. In short, it is a class state that enacts class laws. The courts function as class courts when they maintain the superior position of employers. That is why we should all organize in unions for a complete democratization and equal society.

Att koppla samman Vasagatan med Bohusgatan över Heden är en bra idé. De som lanserat idén är en majoritet av Göteborgs kommunfullmäktige, dvs partierna som styr (V, MP och S) tillsammans med C. Centerpartiet vill dessutom också bygga bostäder norr om den förlängda Vasagatan. Alla partierna vill dessutom utöka idrottsområdena på Heden. Asylum seeking Palestinians commencing a hunger strike in Sweden The 8th of January over a hundred Palestinians gathered in Gothenburg, Sweden to commence a round the clock sit strike against the new Swedish migration authorities decision that’s seeing hundreds of Palestinian families facing deportation and a state of limbo. Due to the situation in Palestine, Gaza and a lot of the countries where the Palestinians have travelled from it is impossible for the migration authorities to enforce the deportations and so the Palestinians remain in Sweden but are unable to work or access basic services such as healthcare or education. Because of the severity of their situation some of the Palestinians are seeing no other option then commencing an indefinite hunger strike starting tuesday, 3rd of February. They are currently unable to do so and in the new US “deal of the century” framework it explicitly states that no Palestinians can return back to their original homes if those homes lie outside the fragmented map the US administration is presenting. This desperation of not being allowed to return back home and not being allowed to live dignified lives in Sweden despite having an official refugee status is driving the Palestinians in Sweden to see hunger striking as a measure of last resort to get the authorities to see

Värderingsvalet

Sverige ska vara ett medmänskligt land. Ett land där människor får leva sina liv efter eget huvud. Där alla barn och unga ges chans att förverkliga sin fulla potential. Där vi inte begränsar och detaljstyr, men där vi stöttar och hjälper. 

Centerpartiet värnar de institutioner och värderingar som utgör grunden för ett fritt och tryggt samhälle. Det handlar om en liberal demokrati, med press- och yttrandefrihet. Där vi möter varandra med respekt, inte med hat eller hot. Det handlar om en närvarande rättsstat, som skyddar våra fri- och rättigheter. Där alla är lika inför lagen och ingen lämnas utanför.

 För Centerpartiet är den enskilda människan utgångspunkten. När andra ser människor som representanter för sitt kön, sin religion eller sin hudfärg – då ser vi dem som individer, med egna drömmar och mål. Medmänsklighet handlar om att behandla andra som just människor. Som jämlikar. Som mål i sig själva. Inte som grupprepresentanter, som mindre värda eller som medel för andra. 

Vi ser de människor som flyr. Familjer som splittras. Barn som förlorat sina föräldrar. I en tid då krig och konflikt driver människor på flykt behöver vi visa medmänsklighet genom att försvara rätten att söka asyl och möjligheten för familjer att återförenas. 

Övergrepp riktade mot kvinnor är ett av de tydligaste exemplen på hur människor kränks och förminskas. Historiskt har kvinnor omyndigförklarats, tystats och förvägrats sina rättigheter. Förra årets #meetoo-upprop var en smärtsam och viktig påminnelse om att det fortfarande finns en utbredd tysthetskultur och destruktiva normer som leder till övergrepp mot kvinnor. Vi vet också att många flickor och 5 kvinnor begränsas av en förtryckande hederskultur. Frihet för enskilda människor förutsätter jämställdhet mellan män och kvinnor. Även miljöfrågan är en tydlig värderingsfråga. Den handlar om hur vi tar hand om vår natur och vår miljö samt vad vi efterlämnar till kommande generationer. I spåren av klimatförändringarnas extrema väderhändelser följer svår torka, skogsbränder och översvämningar. Ett bättre klimat, god miljö och grön tillväxt kräver att vi brukar och förvaltar, inte förbrukar och förstör. Att vi samarbetar över de gränser som föroreningarna och naturkatastroferna inte bryr sig om. Att vi är rustade för att klara av ett förändrat klimat. 

Höstens val är ett värderingsval. Centerpartiet står tryggt rotat i liberalismen. Samtidigt finns grupper som hotar de grundläggande värden som Sverige vilar på. En röst på Centerpartiet är en röst mot populism, extremism och främlingsfientlighet. Men det är också en röst för ökad frihet och jämställdhet. En röst för minskad otrygghet och mot miljöförstöring. En röst för medmänsklighet och för öppenhet.
