18/02/23: New site theme is LIVE!!

It was indeed some enchanted evening at the opening of “Cellphies 2”, an exhibit of photographs taken with a cellphone camera on the streets of New York. The artist @jedbolipata, a Juilliard-graduate turned New York realtor, treated us with a mini piano concert and played his favorite broadway hits and even Beatles and Queen music, that got us singing the whole night. Also on exhibit is six of his short films. My favorite is “Lolo ni Lola” featuring his mom recounting the life of her grand uncle, Don Teodoro R. Yangco. I studied photography at art college in 1973. My peers teased me for being a perfectionist. They called me Pointy Pencil Peter. I got my own back at exam time when they were panicking outside the classroom, having forgotten their pencil cases. Guess who had a stash of spare pens and stuff? This selfie is me taking the piss out of myself. The title is “Precise”. That word came from a list of five which I asked my partner Jane to write about me as an artist. I thought it was the most serious one on her list. I chose “dare” when Freya explained the choices. She wanted humour. I think she got it. In terms of photography as a medium, one of my Italian friends, who is a fine art B&W photographer, made the comment that in this picture I am not the photographer, but I am the subject. His response really interested me. I made a new word up. My American friends use cellphones, not mobiles. So this picture is now a cellphie.

he’s my skrunkly, and i wanted a green icon because i knew i wanted my theme to be green and black
