something about bojack finally throwing mr peanutbutter a bone in s6 (pun intended) is so heartbreaking to me? that bojack has been a caustic dick and a horrible friend to this man essentially for decades to the point where just casual baseline kindness — playing along and doing a “crossover episode” — sends mr peanutbutter over the edge into intense overwhelmed delight. obvs mr peanutbutter is in this forever state of arrested development which is its own thing but he does love so easily and so wholeheartedly. he’s literally just a dog. and bojack has been kicking that dog for twenty years
#celia watches bojack horseman#all the relationships in this show man!#i can’t even talk about bojack and todd it makes me crazy

bojack telling princess carolyn she’d be a good mom at the end of the beatrice horseman season scooped my heart right the fuck out of my chest. Thanks
#celia watches bojack horseman#i think especially because he’s right!#princess carolyn is a good mom!!#she’s someone who has this intense drive and focus and a desire to care for others#on a level that allows her to eventually laser focus on her kid#not a Perfect mom obvs but i think a really good one :’)#also like v in line w my thoughts abt bojack#n his capacity for compassion & the slow strange growth we see with him#even at the same time as he does and is doing horrific shit#i feel like im appreciating him as a complex character a lot more this time?#he’s so much. he had 200000 chances. he wants to be better and he doesn’t want to work for it.

princess carolyn and judah are getting to me again!!!! so often the natural consequence of her obsessive desire to Do It All is her losing track of things and forgetting really crucial and important aspects of her responsibilities, which is why it’s so meaningful and sweet that more than once when we see that happen with judah on call he presents an immediate solution. he is the one person in the world doing for her what she does for other people, except with him it is coming from a place of deep love and admiration for her as an individual, rather than pc’s own need to care for others when she feels like her own life is out of control
#celia watches bojack horseman#idk man ur all getting the thoughts this time. vacation celia has feelings abt this rn??

the framing of bojack as horse professor giving senior superlatives with diane and princess carolyn quiet in the wings (in his office waiting to work out what to do about the horrors he’s trying to sweep under the rug, again) hits really hard i think. the way they both smile very lovingly at his little jokes and make eye contact with each other here and there and both kinda roll their eyes very affectionately when he can’t find his cue cards. that these are the two women who got him to that point by loving him that much. backstage. offscreen. ready to talk through how they’re going to handle that fucked up thing he did to a woman.
#celia watches bojack horseman#i like thinking about diane and pc bc they both justify their presence in that room in SUCH different ways#pc is so flatly indifferent to any and all horror around her bc what matters most to her is the bottom line#diane wants to believe bojack can be better because she loves him and if he can’t be better then what does that say about her?

genuinely obsessed still with bojack and diane’s relationship and how apparent it is that they work well together and have from the jump — how she has this intense obsession with Being Good and Doing Good and the same deep seated convictions as bojack that there is something rotten within her — how she like bojack will pull horrifying shitty underhanded moves with people from a place of self righteousness — but how, crucially, she’s constantly making deliberate efforts to grow and change even when it’s uncomfortable. he violently dislikes mr. peanutbutter’s oblivious sincerity and she aspires to it. marries it, even.
#celia watches bojack horseman#you can really understand both why they are friends and why they never ended up together romantically#i personally kinda think there’s a mutual attraction that she is extremely uncomfortable with#bc she doesn’t like what it says about her and doesn’t wanna be that person#and her consistent effort to Not Be That Person is what gets her out of her own pit in the end

idk if it’s just hitting different because of where i’m at but man the horrorterror of someone so intelligent, with the capacity for such goodness, who has such intense compassion and who feels so deeply, just constantly making selfish people-shredding shitty choices that hurt everyone they love, stuck in this perpetual cycle of regret to the point where loving them becomes actively and demonstrably dangerous even though the love would be reciprocated if that love was possible. it is simultaneously comforting and heartbreaking to watch
#celia watches bojack horseman#it makes me feel better about leaving i think. i think that’s what it is#to know that staying wouldn’t help and love won’t do what you think it will. even if you want it to.#and that is probably a real feeling im allowing out of the box. progress!

something about bojack being so much like his mom is always going to hit me where it hurts man. seeing that spark of bitter caring good within just the most fucked up circumstances ever and how there really is the capacity for good in everyone but you have to be able to self reflect and come to terms with what you’ve done and who you’ve hurt
#celia watches bojack horseman#well. REWATCHES. but still#remains such a good fucking show man#i feel like this time around i find myself noticing the horror tragedy in bojack’s moments of goodness#which are just as impulsive and sometimes even just as cruel as his most fucked up moments#bc they do give the people around him such hope#and he does mean it in the moment#it’s just that there are also other moments. and he’s supremely indifferent to & uncomfortable with his own impact

princess carolyn being more and more uncomfortable and miserable around bojack in the season where she has an infant daughter hits a little different with me.
#celia watches bojack horseman#when asked by him post biscuits interview if she thinks he took advantage of her#her response is this numb resigned ‘’i’m here aren’t i?’’#i think that is a very princess carolyn answer.#she’s here isn’t she? so it can’t have been that bad.#she’s still standing next to him right? so it wasn’t that bad.#she’s tough. it didn’t matter.#and yet of course it does.

judah responding to princess carolyn trying to get him to choose playing his show over working with her w/ “when a man loves a—” and subsequently assuring her they’re talking about film titles. man. Man
#celia watches bojack horseman#that singular pc/judah fic i wrote back in 2020 vibrates as my credentials for how much i care abt them#something makes me so crazy about princess carolyn who so often goes for sweet smooth talkers#finding a life partner in someone objective factual and consistently demonstrative

i’ve been watching bojack (as it was recommended to me by my best friend) and princess carolyn’s struggles are just TOO familiar to me even WITHOUT finding out she has a terrible and irresponsible mom who heaped responsibility upon her from an early age

THEM PARALLELING IT IN THE NEXT SEASON WITH HIM SARCASTICALLY AND BITTERLY TELLING HER SHE WOULD BE AN “AWESOME MOM” !!!!! because she isn’t paying enough attention to HIM!!!! because of heartfelt off the cuff advice HE GAVE HER to prioritize herself!!!! really drilling in the cruelty of his inconsistent kindness. he says what he feels in the moment. the now is all that exists to him and holding him accountable for the past is making the present really a bummer…
bojack telling princess carolyn she’d be a good mom at the end of the beatrice horseman season scooped my heart right the fuck out of my chest. Thanks
#celia watches bojack horseman#i think whether or not he’s a horrible person isn’t really the point#i think the point is much more summed up by diane’s statements#you aren’t Good Or Bad you’re the sum of your actions#and looking at bojack’s actions and long term impact on so many women?????? yeah.
