Salman Khan calls Dabangg, Tere Naam small films: ‘Nobody remembers they worked completely on content’ - bollywood
Bollywood star Salman Khan, whose stardom is based mostly on entertainers, has said content-driven cinema works when commercial elements are added. He also labelled his films Dabangg and Tere Naam as small films that worked purely on their content.
Salman Khan during the promotions of Dabangg 3, in Mumbai . ( IANS ) Speaking to Bollywoodlife in an interview, Salman said,“I think they’re talking about a different kind of content. I think they’re talking about the smaller movies, the web, that kind of content. You know that kind of parallel cinema that used to not work earlier, like what we used to call art cinema, which used to be a different chain of cinema, has now become a part of standard cinema. A bit of commercialism has now been added to it; earlier they used to be very small-budgeted films – now the budget has increased a bit and they’ve been shifted here now is what I feel, and it’s a good thing.”Also read: Mardaani 2 box office collection day 4: Rani Mukerji’s film sees a drop on Monday, earns Rs 21.5 cr total“So Dabangg was that film. The first Dabangg was a 2-crore film. Tere Naam was also that film. But since they happened with me, they happened like this, now what to do? Nobody remembers that they were small films that worked completely on content.” He also said, “Till the time the content doesn’t click, the film won’t click, it doesn’t matter how big a star you are. You can get the Friday, Saturday and Sunday numbers, but beyond that, it won’t hold. No matter how good you’re looking or how good your body’s looking, nobody’s going to sit and watch your film. Even if they are ready to pay for tickets and stuff like that, no one’s going to go and sit there for two-and-a-half hours.”Salman is currently promoting his upcoming film - Dabangg 3 that hits theatres on December 20.Follow @htshowbiz for more Read the full article

Good Newwz song Laal Ghaghra: Akshay Kumar rocks a skirt as he matches steps with Kareena Kapoor in this Lohri number - bollywood
A new dance number titled Laal Ghagra from Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor’s upcoming film, Good Newwz is out now and shows the former stepping out in a red skirt. The two can be seen grooving to the party music as they celebrate Lohri with a child, who probably plays their newborn son in the film. Sung by Neha Kakkar, Manj Musik and Herbie Sahara, the song is a recreation of the RDB’s original number with similar lyrics. While Akshay is seen performing some new dance moves, Kareena rides a swing while being dressed in a white blouse and red ghagra. Akshay later joins her in a matching ghagra in the second part of the song. Laal Ghagra was earlier supposed to release on Monday but was delayed. Akshay had dropped a teaser of the song on Sunday. “Karlo ghaghra tight, Bebo & I are coming! #LaalGhaghra song out tomorrow! (get ready, Bebo & I are coming),” the actor captioned the post. The makers have already released two more dance numbers including an original titled Chandigarh Mein. The other song is a recreation of Sukhbir’s Sauda Khara Khara and also stars the popular Punjabi singer. Akshay was last seen performing quirky dance steps and sporting a bald mane in the Housefull 3 song, Shaitan Ka Saala Bala. He is also seen performing ‘nagin dance’ and dangerously swinging from a horse in Sauda Khara Khara. Also read: Ranveer Singh’s Gully Boy out of Oscar race as Academy announces shortlist for Best International Film Akshay and Kareena play a married couple in Good Newwz, trying to have a baby. The story of the comedy-drama revolves around two married couples and their journey to have a baby via In-Vitro fertilization (IVF). However, a major goof-up ensues when Akshay and Diljit’s sperms are interchanged. While Akshay-Kareena are shown as a more sophisticated and poised couple, Diljit and Kiara are the typical Punjabi ones - outspoken, friendly and fun. Helmed by Raj Mehta, Good Newwz will hit the theatres on December 27 this year. Follow @htshowbiz for more Read the full article

From Delhi Crime to Watchmen, here are the top 10 TV shows of 2019 - tv
Looking back on this year through the prism of television, perhaps the greatest capsule of an era’s mood, certain facts become impossible to ignore. These aren’t superficial observations about the growing dominance of streaming, or the collapse of binge culture, but more worrying, and ultimately, more empowering. Gender, with all its fascinating complications, was the key theme of some of the best shows of the year. I look at the list I’ve compiled, of television shows that connected with me over the last 12 months, and I can’t help but notice the one prevalent idea, among several, that ties them all together. Everything from Unbelievable to Delhi Crime -- two shows that directly addressed the outcry over the #MeToo movement -- to Sex Education and Euphoria, are in some way grappling with this idea. It’s no surprise that Merriam Webster’s word of the year is ‘they’ -- a pronoun that captures the length and breadth of the human experience, but also highlights the distance between us, a distance that TV attempts to bridge. For this list, I’ve restricted eligibility to shows that premiered this year, which disqualifies the second seasons of Fleabag, Sacred Games, Succession and Mindhunter. It also removes the final seasons of Veep, Silicon Valley, and Game of Thrones from contention, although only two of them really stood a chance. One exception has, however, been made in the case of The OA, a tremendous show whose second season was connected to its first in only the most abstract manner. 2019 was also vital for Indian streaming, an industry that has seemingly self-destructed, thanks to trash such as Bard of Blood, Drive and other such misguided productions, barely a year after its inauguration. There were, however, a couple of outliers in the form of Amazon’s Made in Heaven and The Family Man. With that out of the way, here are the top 10 TV shows of 2019, from number 10 to number one: Too Old to Die Young
Too Old To Die Young is especially nihilistic, even by creator Nicolas Winding Refn’s insane standards. It’s exhausting and excruciating in equal measure, but it is also an endlessly fascinating addition to a great filmmaker’s singular body of work. It’s not television, the director said at Cannes; neither is it a very long movie. “It’s streaming.” Sex Education
It should also be noted, and appreciated, that Sex Education is largely put together by a female team - it has been created and predominantly written by women, and half of its eight episodes have been directed by a female filmmaker. Despite its distracting title, Sex Education is really a coming-of-age story, and what sets it apart from sleazier teen comedies is its delicate balance of outward American brazenness and very dry, very British humour. When They See Us
When They See Us reaffirmed my faith that despite the endless stream of content that Netflix pushes out every week, and despite its plans of world domination, it’s also, occasionally, doing the Lord’s work. The series finale, at an hour and 28 minutes long, it’s not so much an episode of TV, but a film; one that can be enjoyed independently. It is perhaps director Ava DuVernay’s greatest artistic achievement. Delhi Crime
Delhi Crime is gut-wrenching, stylishly directed, passionately performed, and most important, not at all exploitative. But those looking for an insight into the systemic problems of the Delhi Police are likely to be disappointed by the show’s unabashed defensiveness in its portrayal of the force. This is unfortunate, because it takes away from what is easily one of the best Indian shows Netflix has produced, and perhaps the most stunning true-crime drama of the year. Euphoria
Everyone, Euphoria says emphatically, regardless of the mistakes they’ve made or the hearts they’ve broken or the backs they’ve stabbed, deserves a shot at love. Another generation, like every generation, has been wronged. By honouring one, Euphoria honours them all. Unbelievable
Delicately directed, empathetically performed, and moving with passion instead of rage, Unbelievable is perhaps the best television show of the post-MeToo era. The three central performances at its centre, by Toni Collette, Merritt Wever and Kaitlyn Dever, make it an uncomfortable, but ultimately necessary experience. Chernobyl
Chernobyl is a stunning achievement, thrilling and horrifying in equal measure, created and written by Craig Mazin of all people. He has to his credit two (of the worst) Hangover movies, the forgotten sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman, and perhaps Priyanka Chopra’s upcoming Cowboy Ninja Viking. For him to have written one of the best television shows of 2019, and certainly, one of the best of the last five years, is yet another example of how, given the opportunity and the freedom, nothing can beat a storyteller’s passion. The OA - Part II
The OA is consistently challenging, refreshingly ambitious, and a bittersweet reminder of the Golden Age of Netflix. It is one of the biggest tragedies of the year that the show, one of the most staggeringly ambitious television achievements of all time, was cancelled after delivering the same number of seasons as Selection Day. Watchmen
Watchmen reaffirms Damon Lindelof’s stature as one of the greatest creators to have ever worked in the medium of television — not streaming, mind you. The show, like The Leftovers and his breakout series, Lost, is appointment TV at its finest. Writers can spend their entire careers creating something that isn’t half as special as even one of these programmes; Lindelof has made three. My Brilliant Friend
The best show of the year is perhaps the only one that isn’t on your radar, at least if you aren’t fans of Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan Novels, about the lives of two girls, from childhood to adulthood and old age. Season one has the sweeping majesty of something like The Godfather, and the bildungsroman quality of Richard Linklater’s Boyhood. It is a tale about friendship, loss, jealously and betrayal -- themes as old as time itself -- and in a year dominated by genre storytelling and streaming, it’s a reminder of what the landscape used to be like a decade ago, during the Golden Age of Television. Arjun Kapoor’s reaction to trolls: ‘People don’t spare even Virat Kohli and our honourable Prime Minister’ - bollywood
Nowadays, modern-day actors/filmmakers – unlike yesteryear – are forced to contend with a new challenge of sorts – trolls. And Arjun Kapoor is no different. But the actor refuses to lose sleep over it, as he feels it has become the order of the day. “People don’t spare even Virat Kohli , our honourable Prime Minister , or for that matter, anyone else. Everyone is now a source of humour for people. I guess that’s just the way the world has become. I feel now people find happiness by putting others down. They feel better about their lives instead of doing better with their lives,” says the actor.Although a section of people/experts feel that trolls, in a way, impact a film’s commercial prospects, Arjun doesn’t believe so. “Social media is, anyway, not real. In the past one year itself, we have seen that if a film got a large amount of chatter on social media, it didn’t contribute to its box office results. Likewise, the amount of negative chatter some films got, didn’t affect their prospects,” says the actor, who was trolled with memes etc. when his latest film, Panipat’s trailer came out.The actor further adds, “I strongly believe that social media has a very segregated amount of people. They aren’t true cine-goers per se. I don’t think film-going audiences participate in a large number on social media. They are very different kind of people. By now, we are all part of social media. And we know that we can’t take it so seriously that we lose sleep over it.”A few days back, Arjun shared a hand-written poem – which he wrote to his late mother, Mona Kapoor as a kid – with fans on his social media accounts. “There are so many things that I would want to share with her but I just can’t. So, instead, I share it with the world thinking that maybe, wherever mum is, she reads it, sees it or feels it,” says the actor, pointing out his personal connection with filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker and his 2001 hit, Lagaan.“As an actor, when you make a list of things you want to achieve, you are like, ‘period film karunga.’ Also, Ashu sir made Lagaan, and mum had loved it. So, she would have been happy and loved the fact that I just worked with him. Or that I am now teaming up with a female director . The day I posted the letter, I was shooting for Panipat, and felt that mum would have loved the story. So, I put up the post with my poem that Anshula had shared with me that day itself,” he says. Also read: U2 concert inside pics, videos: Hrithik Roshan chills with Sussanne Khan, Malaika Arora says thanks for the music“Sometimes, when you showcase just happiness, people don’t connect that much with you. But I realised that day that like me, there are many who have been through a similar experience. And they all connected with me. So at times, grief can make people connect. Aur thoda halkapan bhi mehsoos hota hai that you are able to share your story, because usually, sadness sunne ka time toh kisi ke paas nahi hai. If I share my sadness or grief, which can help someone feel a little lighter, then it’s good to be connected with emotions rather than behaving strong all the time.” Follow @htshowbiz for more Read the full article

Earlier, speaking about the film, Taapsee had told Hindustan Times, “Badla released on March 8 and it so happened, that it became a hit and people loved my work despite me being an antagonist. So, I wanted to do something for Women’s Day release and make it my date. The idea was to release Thappad on Women’s Day as it was pretty apt too. It’s a period when we have big Holi releases and all but Anubhav sir was like ‘we will find our audience’ and we locked it.”She had also revealed that she plays a rather “docile” character in the upcoming movie. “Out of the eight women he has cast, Amrita (my character) is not fight-it-out types. She is more docile and vulnerable. It will tear off the firebrand image I have created so far. I am playing an average Indian woman who has strong women around her but in the end it will still leave a ‘thappad’ (slap) on the face of the audience,” she had said.Follow @htshowbiz for more Read the full article

Bigg Boss 13: Salman Khan claims harassment as his fee has been reduced, confirms he will continue as host - tv
Bollywood star Salman Khan had some great news for his fans on Sunday’s episode of Bigg Boss 13 as he confirmed he will continue as the show’s host for its entire duration. The announcement came days after rumours claimed that he may be replaced by filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan when the show extends for another five weeks. Farah Khan has also hosted an extended part of the show last year. A Pinkvilla report quoted Salman as saying on the show, “BB has extended the show for more 5 weeks and decreased my price.” It added that while talking to Sidharth Shukla over the phone on Saturday, Salman had told the TV actor that Bigg Boss “has been harassing” him. They have extended the show but have decreased his pay, he added. Also read: Amitabh Bachchan prays for his father at a Polish church, says ‘his soul must be at peace and love’. See picsEarlier, reports claimed Salman was upset with the behaviour of the show’s contestants. “It is true that Salman Khan is quitting and Farah Khan will take over Bigg Boss. He was disappointed by the contestants’ behaviour. He has also announced this in the show. The last day of (his) shoot is not fixed yet. She (Farah) is expected to (take over) in January,” PTI quoted a source as saying. Refuting rumours of Salman’s health behind the decision to quit the show, his father and writer Salim Khan had said, “His health is fine, it’s all untrue. We have not asked him to slow down or quit the show. Of course, he works round-the-clock but that’s about it. Neither a suggestion has come from us nor is his health a factor for worry.”Talking about hosting a show with frequent fights inside the house, Salman had recently said, “Yeah, a part of mine wants to cut that part and throw it out and the other part wants to keep it. And the latter is haavi on the part that wants to throw it out.” Salman has been playing Bigg Boss host since 2011 when he first appeared on the show’s fourth season. The show airs on Colors TV.Follow @htshowbiz for more Read the full article
